Differences In Marijuana Highs: Flowers, Edibles and Concentrates

Edibles take up to 90 minutes to kick in all the way and sometimes, time feels like it’s at a stand-still when you’re waiting for it to take effect.

Every individual has their own personal relationship with cannabis. No matter how they’re imbibing or how frequently, there is ritual and appreciation that goes into the experience. Some people like to simply elevate a little with a low-THC, high-CBD strain, while on the other side of the spectrum, some like to dab and eat edibles until they’re stuck to the bed. However you do it, if you’re looking to branch out, this is your definitive guide to how flowers, edibles and concentrates differ in highs.

Though, as stated before, getting high is a very personal experience and one that varies wildly from person to person, there are some consistencies that you can be sure of, and the “type” and duration of high from different methods is one of them. The most common method of ingesting cannabis is smoking it. Rolling it up, packing a bowl, loading a bong, vaporizing flowers or getting your gravity groove on, smoking cannabis itself has always been a hit. It’s the easiest way to control your high, as you can monitor how big of an intake you get, how long you hold it in for, and how many hits you take in a row.

A lot will depend on strain no matter what you’re smoking, vaping or eating. Try and find out the strain before imbibing so that you know what to expect. Sativas are a more active, creative high that in high doses and in rare cases can cause anxiety. Indicas are sleepier, usually give you the munchies, relieve pain and in high doses and in many cases cause couch-lock. This is especially true when overdoing it with edibles.

Edibles take up to 90 minutes to kick in all the way and sometimes, time feels like it’s at a stand-still when you’re waiting for it to take effect. Oft times, this can cause the uninitiated or overly brave to eat some more of the medicated goodies, but try not to be so fast! Edible highs are intense and last for several hours, sometimes even 6-8 if the edibles are really good. Edibles can also cause mild hallucinations and paranoia in high doses, so go easy. Eat half if you don’t have a tolerance built up and wait an hour or so before adding to that dose if you feel that you should.

You’ll know right away if you should add onto your concentrate dose or not. Dabs, especially, go straight to the noggin. Expect a high that hits fast, and the more you cough, either the more you get off or the more solvent was left in the concentrate. Vaping concentrate via a pen is a much more mellow way to take in the smoke. Even though you get less THC per hit, you have more control over how high you get and how quickly you achieve that headspace. With dabs, a little dab will do ya when you’re first starting out. Watching people dab grams on Instagram may seem impressive, but it’s really just a colossal waste of oil. Either it’s going to be your only hit or you take hits like that all day every day and you didn’t need this primer. God bless.
