7 Of Our Favorite Rejuvenating Oils For Skin Care

CBD and hemp oil are among the most popular ingredients for beauty products.

Cannabis, hemp, and cannabidiol (CBD) are the trifecta of ingredients creating the current beauty buzz. Adding any of these ingredients to a skincare regimen is advisable because they are potent anti-inflammatories that are used to spot treat pimples. CBD is also a powerful antioxidant.

Facial oils are not just for dry skin. While it may seem counter-intuitive to add oil on top of an oily complexion, geranium oil helps control your skin’s oil production. Jojoba oil has a similar structure to your skin’s own natural sebum, making it a suitable oil for oily and acne-prone skin types.

Using an Ardent Nova decarboxylater or Levo Oil infuser is the perfect beauty hack to make your own cannabis oil at home. Add a few drops of it to your favorite lotions and potions or use your homemade oil as a stand-alone, topically applied skincare product. (Rumor has it Ardent is dropping a DIY terpene lotion kit in the next few weeks!)

If DIY isn’t your thing, there are some oils that are already infused. (We won’t make a dime if you buy these products or not. We just really adore them and think you might, too.) Here they are in no particular order.

Zana

Legion of Bloom’s wellness & beauty line, “Gives ancient Ayurvedic methods a modern twist by incorporating pure, naturally derived CBD oil.”

Aruveydic medicine is a 5,000-year-old practice based on ancient Indian healing methods. Popular hair and skin care company Aveda is named for an abbreviation of Ayurveda. Unfortunately, after being acquired by Estee Lauder in 1997, Aveda’s pure essential oils and salicylic acid skin care products were discontinued.

Zana is quietly filling the vacuum created by Aveda’s change of direction. The Zana Lasting Beauty Roll-On is designed to absorb quickly and give your skin a natural, nourishing boost, with a unique blend of CBD and essential oils.

Rosebud’s CBD

The CBD is sourced from Oregon sun-grown flowering hemp. Rosebud CBD’s dual purpose — topical or sublingual — oil comes in three strengths: 350mg, 700mg, and 1000 mg potencies. Rosebud’s product contains only CBD and MCT as a carrier oil to deliver the CBD more efficiently throughout the body. Rosebud CBD is lab tested to ensure potency, quality, and accuracy per dose. It is pesticide, herbicide, and solvent-free, with no additives, flavorings, sweeteners or preservatives. It is also vegan, gluten-free, non-GMO, and organic. Because CBD oil is also a natural analgesic and anti-inflammatory, it can be applied to tougher skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema.

Hemp & Green Tea Rejuvenating Facial Serum

This is technically a serum, not a facial oil, but it deserves mention for its potent awesomeness. This serum from Treat Yourself is beneficial for all skin types but is ideally suited for dry/mature skin or a person who chain smokes. Tamanu oil can heal dry and damaged skin and in its pure form treats ingrown facial hairs and cystic acne. Sea buckthorn CO2 extract is a potent antioxidant (anti-aging) and along with hemp oil are renowned anti-inflammatories.  Carrot seed essential oil has regenerative properties; it promotes cell turnover, prevents wrinkles, evens out skin tone, and it also has a moderate SPF.

Seaberry and Crème Ancienne Face Oils

While Fresh does have two cannabis-scented fragrances, Cannabis Rose and Cannabis Santal, it is unlikely that this cult favorite skincare brand is going to come out with cannabis-infused skincare lines any time soon.  Still, Fresh’s face oils deserve an honorable mention. Company co-founder Lev Glazman explains that Seaberry Moisturizing Face Oil is extracted from a plant native to Russia and the Himalayan region.  Seaberry oil has been used regionally for generations by people living in the harsh, inhospitable climate of Eastern Siberia, as a natural cure for burned and chapped skin. It also contains extract of the Orpheus flower to protect and soften the skin.

Fresh’s more high-end Crème Ancienne Face Oil Elixir is blended by hand in a monastery! This intense blend contains emollient fatty acid Meadowfoam seed oil, which the skin absorbs to retain moisture. Commiphora extract is included to smooth the skin, while black currant seed oil is added to moisturize and protect, with omegas.

Contour Serum and Lift & Firm Elixir

This dual purpose oil from From Ever Since contains  99 percent pure cannabidiol from industrial hemp stems and stalks. Vitamin E, Roman chamomile, and lavender oils are added for fragrance. This elixir is 100% plant-derived, preservative-free, and formulated without parabens, pesticides, phthalates, artificial dyes or synthetic fragrances and are cruelty-free.

B3 Astraea Face Oil

This is an all-natural and organic multi-use product from Brush Beauty. In addition to being a face oil, it can be used as a cuticle or lip oil. Makeup artist Kelly Mazzini -who can be seen working backstage at fashion week runways or on the sets of television shows- uses B3 Astraea to help soothe redness (from irritation or sunburn) and keep skin supple and glowing. It contains Jojoba, prickly pear and grapefruit oils as well as acne and blemish-fighting Squalane (an organic compound naturally found in olives). Brush Beauty was founded by its namesake, Julia Dalton-Brush.

Zap

This facial oil by Saje Natural Wellness is a balancing, soothing and calming blend of lavender, Roman chamomile and tea tree oils, in a convenient, roll-on format, for zapping away zits.  Zap will blend easily with a drop or two of your favorite cannabis oil. Zap is vegan and cruelty-free. Saje’s company philosophy is “rooted in environmental sustainability and ethical responsibility.” Some of their packaging is made out of recycled water bottles.

Saje was created in In 1992, by husband and wife Jean-Pierre LeBlanc and Kate Ross LeBlanc in Lonsdale Quay, Canada. LeBlanc was inspired to introduce people to the power of 100% natural, plant-derived wellness products including private-label essential oils, diffusers and skin care products. They have spacious, aromatic stores in the hippest, tony neighborhoods: Queen Street in downtown Toronto and Mercer Street in Soho, Manhattan.

Stay away from comedogenic, pore-clogging mineral oil and stearates such as wheat germ, coconut, avocado and olive facial oils. While they may work wonders on hair, nails, rough elbows, and salads, they’re probably too heavy for individuals with oily faces. Coconut oil, in particular, may cause facial milia (or “milk bumps,” due to their whiteish appearance).

Why wait for major skin care companies to debut cannabis-infused lines when there are plenty of essential oils that can be easily mixed with cannabidiol or homemade cannabis oil?
