Watch A Bunch of Turkeys Creepily Circle A Dead Cat In Apparent Ritual

Thursday morning, Twitter user @TheReal_JDavis uploaded a video with the caption of a dozen or so turkeys repeatedly circling the apparently dead body of a cat in the middle of the street. The swaddle-necked birds appear to be in the middle of some sort of (satanic?) ritual as they slowly pace around the deceased feline.

“This is the craziest things I’ve ever seen,” the person filming says. “Bro, this is wild.”

He’s not wrong. But why would these turkeys do such a thing? Gizmodo reached out to some bird scientists to find out.

“I can’t say I’ve heard of something like this before,” Debra Kriensky, a conservation biologist at NYC Audubon, told Gizmodo. “They’re omnivores but pretty much eat nuts and seeds and fruits, so certainly they wouldn’t be interested in eating [the cat].”

Mark Hatfield, wildlife biologist at the National Wild Turkey Federation, said the birds were “just making sure that it’s no longer a threat.”

“It’s more of a curiosity type of thing,” he added. “Turkeys are very basic.”

While Hatfield makes some good points, we still believe it’s part of Satanic seance. Never trust a bird.
