Everyone Has Been Pronouncing Princess Eugenie’s Name Wrong

The Queen’s granddaughter recently announced her engagement to her longtime boyfriend. And now that royal watchers seem to be whispering her name, it’s probably a good time to learn how to pronounce it.

Naturally, most people pronounce it as it appears: yoo-JEE-nee. But, the correct pronunciation is not even close. According to her mother, Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson, it’s pronounced “YOO-juh-nee.” Like, eulogy.

According to The Sun, the 27-year old, who’s eighth in line for the British throne, said that when she was a child, her mom had an interesting way of getting people to pronounce her name correctly.

Whenever we used to meet foreign people who were struggling with it, my mum and I would help them by saying, ‘It’s like Use Your Knees.’

“But whatever,” she said, “I am now used to every pronunciation.”

Eugenie’s wedding to Jack Brooksbank will take place at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor, the same venue as Harry and Meghan’s wedding.

The Sun reports that Eugenie will be given away by her dad Prince Andrew. And that the ceremony will be the first time in a long, long time that Sarah Ferguson will be in a formal gathering with the royal family.
