You might not believe this, but sometimes living in the Game of Thrones universe can be rather stressful. You only have to contend everyone possibly trying to stab you in the back (literally), dragons, White Walkers, cult religions, murderous barbarians, incest, and every wedding you attend ending in murder.
Even just playing characters on HBO’s Game of Thrones can be tense, which is why Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams incidentally became best friends on the show. To detox from long days being Sansa and Arya Stark, the actresses would wind down like the rest of us—smoking some weed and acting silly.

“We’re kind of like loners on Game of Thrones, just because the past few seasons Maisie and I have sleepovers every night when we’re shooting. Or every night whenever both of us are in town. We just used to sit there and eat and watch stupid videos and smoke weed,” Turner said at New York Comic-Con this past weekend. “I don’t know if my publicist will kill me for saying this. We’d get high and then we’d sit in the bath together and we’d rub makeup brushes on our faces. It’s fun.”
Turner, who will soon inhabit the Dark Phoenix, reflected on the two stars meeting each other at auditions for the show, and how they immediately hit it off.
“We did a chemistry read together,” Turner said. “It was the final three for Sansa, and I was like, Fuck, I really need to up my game. I went in, and was I like, What’s up?! I gave her a big hug. I was like high-five after every take. I was super extra, but it worked. I read with other Aryas before, but Maisie was special. We just got on like that.”

Turner also broke down the insane level of secrecy that occurs on the show. Apparently any Game of Thrones set includes a “drone killer,” which will shoot down any unwanted eyes in the sky filming trade secrets. The show also carries a different name while filming, like “Tree of Life” for this season.
“Also, we shoot fake scenes,” Turner said. “We got into costume in Croatia because we know the paparazzi lurk around there, so we would spend like half a day doing nothing.”
Game of Thrones will return in early 2019.
