Sen. Cory Booker Says He’s Optimistic About Federal Marijuana Decriminalization After Signaling Possible Compromise
In addition to expressing his optimism about reform, the senator stressed the importance of pushing for cannabis legalization on the federal level.
Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) is “open to compromises” when it comes to federal cannabis reform.
The comments came on the heels of his introducing long-awaited US Senate legislation that would decriminalize and deschedule cannabis on the federal level.
At a recent Senate hearing, Booker cited evidence that cannabis' current classification as a Schedule 1 drug has caused many harms.
The bill from Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Senators Ron Wyden and Cory Booker was presented Thursday.
This brings a total of nine drug policy measures passed in the chamber as part of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) this week.
