Misheard lyrics are not a new phenomenon. Neither is their collection in posts like this.
But every so often Twitter reminds us that it’s a consistently funny phenomenon nonetheless that persists in age of Genius and song lyrics on our iPhones. The embarrassment with which users admit their mishearing lyrics seems both exaggerated and endearing.
It’s such a common mistake, yet that doesn’t diminish the shame we feel. Like a twice-a-year Catholic, these people feel the need to repent and confess. And like the Young Pope, we feel the right to laugh.
