In the ongoing saga of the marijuana puff that broke the internet, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has now mounted an insurmountable defense to would-be detractors of his ability to steward his companies: “I have no idea how to smoke pot.”
Convincing, indeed.
Possibly this will sway the worrywarts over at NASA, who has launched a safety probe into SpaceX, Musk’s private space company, to evaluate the “workplace safety” and its “adherence to a drug-free environment.” The “months-long assessment” from the notoriously conservative NASA stems from SpaceX’s responsibility as one of two private companies tasked with transporting NASA astronauts through the cosmos.
Musk, and Tesla, have come under intensive scrutiny following various controversies over the past several months, weed jokes chief among critics’ concerns. In a blatant attempt to garner positive PR points, Musk submitted to a 60 Minutes interview over the weekend, where he assuaged online attackers and apologized for “the most… painful year of my career.”

Unsurprisingly, smoking marijuana on Joe Rogan’s podcast came up during his conversation with Lesley Stahl. Musk asserted smoking marijuana was mostly a joke and something he never really did.
“I do not smoke pot, as anyone who watched that podcast could tell, I have no idea how to smoke pot,” Musk said on the program. “Or anything. I don’t know to smoke anything, honestly.”
This is literally no shock whatsoever who anyone who both a) smokes marijuana and b) watched footage of Musk smoking marijuana. As I wrote last month, “He didn’t even seem that good at it!” On the podcast, Musk even admitted, “I’m not a regular smoker of weed.” Again, this was not surprising. But I guess for those sacred few who need reassurance from the man himself, now you know. Elon Musk blows at smoking pot.
