This Week’s Music: Lindsay Lohan, Samantha Urbani And The Knocks

This week’s music includes the return of Lindsay Lohan and new singles from Samantha Urbani and The Knocks.

This Week’s Music is a weekly column that discusses the weeks’ best, worst, and most interesting songs. We try to select songs of different artists and genres to keep things interesting and to please a variety of music fans.

This week was an uneventful one for music, with lowkey releases from The Knocks and Samantha Urbani, and the somehow not covered at all musical comeback of Lindsay Lohan.

Pop

Lindsay Lohan – Xanax

Lindsay Lohan’s notorious music career isn’t as populated as you’d think. She released two albums in the early 2000’s, and sang some songs for her Disney films. Now, almost two decades later, Lohan returns to the music scene without the support of Disney or her rabid fanbase, resulting in a song that’s called “Xanax.” It features an EDM beat and Lohan’s ever youthful vocals but that’s about it for individualities. It’s a bad song, with stock beats and lyrics, but it’s an improvement over social media videos where she’s attempting to kidnap kids. Good for her.

Samantha Urbani – Made In Love

“Made In Love” is Samantha Urbani’s first single of the year, and despite a cheesy title and some lyrics that shouldn’t work, the song comes together surprisingly well. The song features different breezy and surreal sounds that blend well together, made better thanks to Urbani’s lovely vocals. There’s an undercurrent of sincerity in her writing that makes “Made In Love” into a stand out pop song.

Electronic

The Knocks – New York Luau (KC Lights Remix)

The Knocks, an electronic duo from New York, are known for their remixes of popular songs, but they also produce some really elaborate and fun singles. “New York Luau” is a rich song, filled with different instruments and rhythms, jumping around from one mood to the next. The KC Remix version is stripped down and less experimental, more centered on a house party mood.
