As families face rising living costs, Planet 13 launches a summer gas card program to help cannabis customers stretch their budgets.
As inflation continues to squeeze household budgets, businesses across the country are looking for creative ways to help customers manage rising everyday expenses. One company believes the best promotion this summer isn’t simply offering discounts on products. Â A Florida cannabis dispensary tackles cost of living with free gas cards….yes please.
Planet 13, one of the nation’s largest cannabis retailers, has launched its “Fuel Your Summer” campaign, an initiative designed to ease one of the most visible expenses consumers face every week: the cost of gasoline.

The program comes at a time when many Floridians continue to feel financial pressure. While the state’s economy has shown areas of strength, many residents are struggling with the rising cost of living. Florida has experienced periods of unemployment above the national average, while skyrocketing homeowners insurance premiums, higher auto insurance costs, housing expenses, and everyday inflation have made it increasingly difficult for many families to balance their budgets.
Rather than simply introducing another cannabis promotion, Planet 13 says it wanted to respond to conversations taking place inside its stores.
According to the company, the “Fuel Your Summer” campaign grew directly out of discussions with customers across Florida, Nevada, and Illinois.

“We developed the program from conversations we were having with customers across Florida, Nevada and Illinois about what they are experiencing in their everyday lives,”  shared Juliana Whitney, Planet 13 Florida Marketing Strategist. “We wanted to create something which wasn’t just another promotion—we wanted to address something impacting almost everyone. With fuel prices continuing to be a concern, we thought helping offset gas cost would be meaningful.”
In Florida, the program will award between five and ten $50 gas cards every week throughout July and August, giving customers an opportunity to receive assistance with one of the most unavoidable household expenses.
The approach reflects a broader trend throughout the retail industry. Consumers increasingly value promotions providing practical, real-world benefits instead of traditional discounts. Whether it’s grocery rebates, fuel rewards, or loyalty programs, businesses are recognizing helping customers manage daily expenses can build stronger long-term relationships.
For the cannabis industry, the strategy may be particularly important. As legal markets mature, dispensaries are competing not only on product selection but also on customer service, community engagement, and innovative promotions create lasting value beyond the purchase itself.
Planet 13 also says it is encouraged by its overall performance in Florida despite the economic challenges facing many consumers.

“Business has been steadily growing month over month, and we’re excited about the direction we’re heading,” the company said, noting the momentum it has experienced throughout 2026.
Florida remains one of the country’s largest medical cannabis markets, with hundreds of thousands of registered patients and continued interest in cannabis products for wellness and symptom management. As competition grows, retailers are increasingly searching for ways to differentiate themselves beyond price alone.
For Planet 13, it means recognizing customers don’t leave their financial concerns at the dispensary door. Between higher insurance premiums, housing costs, and fuel prices, many Floridians are looking for businesses who understand the pressures of everyday life.
This summer, helping someone pay for a tank of gas may prove to be one of the cannabis industry’s most practical—and appreciated—promotions.
