There’s been a lot of speculation as to who Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will name as they’re their son’s godparents. Everyone from Serena Williams to George Clooney have been thrown into the suspect pool. This person has reportedly been named one of Archie’s godparents.
On Saturday, the couple celebrated the christening of Archie at Windsor Castle. And while the names of the “guest of honor’s” godparents are usually named during the ceremony, Meghan and Harry have remained tight-lipped.

“The godparents, in keeping with their wishes, will remain private,” a spokesperson for the couple announced last week.

But according to The Sunday Times royal correspondent Roya Nikkhah, a longtime friend (and former schoolmate) of Harry’s has been named as one of the godparents: Charlie van Straubenzee.

“The Sunday Times can reveal that one of Archie’s godfathers is Charlie van Straubenzee, a friend from Harry’s school days, who gave a speech at the Sussexes’ wedding teasing Harry for being ‘a ginger,'” wrote Nikkhah.

As INSIDER points out, royal commentator Richard Palmer tweeted the day before the christening that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were in breach of a legal requirement to make the names of Archie’s godparents available to the public.

“Details of christenings, including the names of godparents, are normally recorded in parish registers available for inspection on request,” wrote Palmer.
“But christenings of royal babies are recorded in a special royal register held privately by the Queen.
Back in May, U.K. betting site Ladbrokes gave Charlie 1/8 odds of being named godparent. And according to People, Charlie wasn’t exactly a surprise, because he and Harry have known each other forever, first meeting at prep school. Harry was a classmate of Charlie’s late brother, Henry, who died in a car crash in 2002. And Prince William is a close friend of Charlie’s other brother, Thomas, who is a godfather to Princess Charlotte.
