Nintendo’s Newest Pokémon Suspiciously Resembles A Bong

Nintendo should come out already and admit Galarian Weezing is a stoner Pokémon icon.

Pokémon is ostensibly a children’s game. But a new trailer for Nintendo’s upcoming Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield gives us some real adult fumes, we must admit. The trailer features several Pokémon new to the Galar region, including a Weezing that looks like a straight-up bong.

Those who played the original Pokémon back in the day will remember Weezing. However, the new iteration of the game features old-school creatures like Weezing, but who have adapted/evolved to their new climates in the Galar region. You can see where we’re going here — Galar region got some primo weed.

To be fair, both Koffing and Weezing have long been associated with stoner culture. They’re literally named after coughing and wheezing, two acts anyone who’s hit the weed a little too hard will recognize. But it feels like Game Freak—the video game studio behind the new Pokémon—is making the connection more explicit than ever before.

That top hat look with English-style facial hair is classic “This sounded like a good idea when I was high” vibes.

Check out this description on the game’s official website. Tell us this doesn’t sound like the effects of smoking marijuana.

“The toxins accumulated within Weezing’s body form into concentrated poison gas clouds that leak out and drift around it. This gas is so potent that even a whiff is enough to stun and immobilize an opponent,” reads the website. “It is Weezing’s best weapon during battles.”

Whether it was intentional or not, the internet has adopted Galarian Weezing as a stoner icon. Nintendo might as well embrace it. Just add “Cookies and pizza attacks are super effective against Galarian Weezing” already.
