Don’t judge this story at first blush: This young woman has her priorities together more than most.
Katherine Stone has a tale worthy of a ’90s rom-com. Tragedy, family, love, sex! A coming-of-age story fit for the next Julia Roberts.
When her family’s Seattle home was damaged in a fire in 2014, Stone’s family didn’t have the means to rebuild or relocate. When the 20-year-old came across an advertisement on Facebook for brothels in Nevada, she made a plan: Auction off her virginity to buy her family a new home. That’s when she contacted brothel magnate Dustin Hof.
Like Daddy Warbucks but for legal sex work, he welcomed Stone in and supported her mission, saying that “it is her choice. I don’t think it is a good idea for a girl to drink six tequilas and lose her virginity on the bathroom floor in a frat house. … If she wants to (sell) it, I think that’s great.” Dustin Hof, feminist pimp.
The current bid is set at $400,000, but it’s not just going to the highest bidder: Stone’s waiting for the right suitor. Some have flashed enough cash but lacked the right panache; others swept her off her feet but lacked the funds to get her into bed. “I’m waiting for a man who I feel a connection with so that the experience can be special for both of us,” she told CNN. “It’s really not just about the money.”
When you consider that purity is a myth, the rest falls into perspective. Is this the most down-to-earth 20-year-old ever? Possibly. “People say you are suppose to do it for love,” she says. “But if you think about it, I am doing it because I love my family.”
