While some wondered how the somewhat estranged Thomas Markle would respond to hearing the news of his daughter’s pregnancy, Markle said that he was filled with “joy, love, and happiness” in an interview with the Daily Mail. He found out while he was listening to his favorite radio show, Red Eye Radio, who interrupted their scheduled program in order to congratulate “America’s favorite royals.”
“I was sitting in line waiting to cross the border when I heard the baby announcement on the car radio,” Markle exclusively told the Mail. “The first thing I thought about was holding Meghan in my arms as a newborn 37 years ago. I thought, ‘My baby is having a baby.'”
This marks Thomas Markle’s first interview since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s pregnancy was announced. During his talk with the Daily Mail he reminisced about the birth of Meghan, who was born in Canoga Park hospital on August 4th of 1981. “It was in the middle of the night when Meghan was born by caesarean section. Doria was sleeping and so I was the first person in the world to hold Meghan.”
Kensington Palace was the first to announce of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s pregnancy. Doria Ragland, Meghan’s mother, was very excited to welcome her first grandchild. It’s believed that Ragland will be relocating to the UK in order to help care for the baby.
For his part, Thomas Markle is only saying positive things about his daughter and her marriage despite the intense scrutiny and presence of the paparazzi. “She’s always been wonderful with children and most of her friends have families so she’s used to being around kids. She will make a fantastic mother.”
