Is Prince Harry’s Archie Named After A Cat

Is Prince Harry’s Archie named after a cat? It was not a name most people expected Meghan Markle and Prince Harry to pick for their newborn son. Formally known as Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor (Prince Archie would be so much easier to say), the royal bundle of Sussex (that’s a legit title, right?) was born Monday morning, photographed for the entire world to see just days later. The kid’s name took a backseat to the sight of the blessed child.

Pro to the birth, the most famous Archie is also a redhead, Archie Andrews. Until now.

A theory is being tossed around (we see you, Prince George!) that Meghan named her son after a beloved pet cat named Archie that got fat after she fed it too many frozen grapes. There’s a lot to unpack in that sentence, so take your time.

A former close friend of Meghan told The Sun that Meghan and her mom rescued the cat and named him Archie, after the Archie comic Meghan apparently collected as a child. Says this friend:

“Doria rescued Archie and he became an important part of the household. Meghan loved playing with him and she was always talking about him to her friends.”

“It’s no surprise she named her new baby Archie. She loved that cat,” added the friend.

Sadly, the cat died while Meghan was in college. He was fed up (sorry).

It could be argued that Archie was a nod to one of Princess Diana’s Scottish ancestors, Archibald Campbell, the 9th Earl of Argyll. But it’s way more fun to think the seventh in line for the throne shares a moniker with a fat feline, no?
