If you have not seen the finale of “Game of Thrones,” and have somehow been able to avoid social media this entire time, consider this post a spoiler alert.
Last Sunday was the finale of “Game of Thrones,” an event that, no matter which characters spoke or died, was going to be one of the most polarizing hours of television ever. The hype that surrounded the show was always one of the things that played against its favor, especially on the later seasons when the fervor was greatest and the writers had no map from the original books.
“Game of Thrones” is a topic that can be discussed for ages, but that’s not why we’re here. We are here for a meme, which began with a striking shot from the final episode of the series.

Daenerys Targaryen, having completely embraced her dark side after a whopping two episodes, marches forward menacingly while her dragon spreads his wings directly behind her. She’s become the dragon, the message is clear if not a little on the nose.
The tweet that started it all was excited over the shot, claiming that it should be studied in film classes because of how impressive it is. Before it was deleted due to the trolling, it said: “This shot is brilliant and should be shown in any film study class.”
While I agree that the shot is very cool, having necessitated coordination between script, actor, cinematographer, VFX, and whoever else, the tone of the tweet lends itself for some jokes. Sorry, that’s just how it is. While some users laughed at the original tweet, others submitted screenshots of other TV shows and movies claiming that these were also shots that should be studied in film classes. Here are some of the best reactions:
It took 16 months to get that shot because dragons don’t normally do that
