This Week’s Music: Kindness, Marina, And Tindersticks Release New Songs

This Week’s Music is a weekly column that discusses the weeks’ best, worst, and most interesting songs. We try to select songs of different artists and genres to keep things interesting and to please a variety of music fans.

This week we highlight Kindness’ new collaboration with Robyn, Marina’s new single from her awaited fourth studio album, and Tinderstick’s song for the movie “High Life”. Check them out:

Electronic

Kindness – Cry Everything

Kindness and Robyn fit perfectly together. Adam Bainbridge, the guy behind Kindness, is a DJ and musician who’s produced a lot of music, including some songs in Solange’s last record and two songs from Robyn’s last album. “Cry Everything” is his first song since 2014, and it’s a sort of meeting point between his own voice and Robyn’s. Out of all the great things that “Cry Everything” is doing, the most striking aspect is the union of both performers’ voices, which linger more than all of those amazing and intricate layers of sound.

Pop

MARINA – Superstar

Marina, also known as Marina And the Diamonds, is back with a new record after a four year break. Love + Fear will be released on April 26 and two singles have already been published. “Handmade Heaven” and “Superstar” are vastly different, with the former promising an interesting and thoughtful record while the latter is kind of forgettable. Marina is a tough artist to categorize, someone who uses her bubblegum pop sound and aesthetic to discuss darker and more interesting topics. “Superstar” feels a little bit been there, done that, especially after listening to some of her best work.

Tindersticks – Willow (Featuring Robert Pattinson)

If you weren’t a devoted fan of the Twilight Saga and its iconic soundtracks, you might not know the fact that Robert Pattinson is also a singer. His voice isn’t the most versatile but it works when it comes to evoking a mood or a vibe, which is just what he does on “Willow.” The song is part of the soundtrack from “High Life”,  one of the most anticipated films of the year and, according to many critics, one of the best sci-fi films ever made. Pattinson stars as an astronaut and Juliette Binoche co-stars as a witchy looking crazy scientist. Things get weird in space and there are some babies involved. “Willow” may be a little bit of a snooze, but you have to appreciate it once you know all of this background information.
