There are few things more stressful than finding a good and original Halloween costume. While there are dozens of stores that sell costumes that are ready to go, a lot of people prefer the DIY method, creating a costume that says something about themselves and their interests. These costumes take some time and effort, but the results are better than the other option: leaving everything to the last minute, only to end up dressed as a giant baby just because you couldn’t think of anything else.

Tide pods caused a bit of a frenzy in 2018 with people claiming that they were eating them because they looked so delicious and appetizing. The paranoia surrounding them hit such epic proportions that some tide pods were locked up in stores and you had to ask a manager to buy them. Tide also released several ads warning costumers that tide pods were for doing laundry only and that they were not edible.

It’s a great costume and an embodiment of this crazy and bizarre year.
Kylo Ren Pants

There was a big Kylo Ren Challenge back when The Last Jedi was released, making people hike up their pants and take pictures in the mirror. Kylo Ren’s pants became a pretty iconic and recognizable meme, easy to recreate in a costume and perfect for striking up conversations with strangers on Halloween parties.

Michaela Coel had a pretty amazing reaction shot in one of Black Mirror’s best episodes, U.S.S. Callister. The reaction shot was so beloved by all that it became an instant meme. Even Coel recognized it on her Twitter account.

The oblivious anime guy meme took over the internet for a good amount of time, and now everyone is pretty over it, but it still makes a great Halloween costume because the outfit is super easy to replicate. Just be sure to get a fake butterfly as an accessory and to have a thoroughly puzzled expression wherever you decide to go.

Meghan Markle is peak 2018, which means that she makes for a perfect costume idea, especially for those who love royals or are simply into pop culture. You can dress up as Meghan at her wedding, or Meghan in Suits. You can add some fake freckles and be as creative as you want to be; just make sure to add a name tag or something if you’re outfit is kind of low-key.
