Major Tokyo Snowfall Inspires Pokemon, Totoro, And Poop Emoji Creations

It doesn’t snow often in Tokyo. The last major snowfall to accumulate within the city was more than four years ago. But a couple of weeks ago an unexpected and rare snow struck the city, casting its streets and gardens in a sheet of white. The storm caused major travel problems, forcing the “workaholic Japanese” to miss flights and head home from their offices.

The restless stagnation caused inspiration from Tokyo locals, who did what one must with precious resources like fresh snow and free time—they built a snowman. Well, not exactly snowmen to be honest. More like snow creatures.

See, a simple snowman wouldn’t cut it. Instead, Japanese re-created iconic creatures like Jabba the Hut, Snoopy, Minions, Pokemon, Super Mario, and…a urinal? There’s also a whole bunch of familiar faces for My Neighbor Totoro and Studio Ghibli fans.
