A prank gift for her teenage daughter triggered this mom’s worst shopping trip ever. Daphne Page, a 52-year-old resident of Richmond, Virginia, says picked up a funny present for her daughter at a yard sale: An alarm clock that looked like a bundle of dynamite. She left it in the backseat of her car while she went shopping at Whole Foods. When she came back out, the parking lot was pandemonium.
According to the Richmond Times-Dispatch, a store employee spotted the clock in the car and alerted authorities. When Page tried to get to her car, the cops stopped her.
She told the Times-Dispatch:
“It was an obvious fake, and they were pursuing it as though it was an intentional hoax. That would be a horrible thing to do to people, and it’s not anything about who I am. They obviously shouldn’t be providing this stuff on the market for people to buy if it’s something that’s going to be so controversial when you actually have it in your hands. It was a product someone purchased in a store and that allowed me to think that it was OK to just have in my car and it wouldn’t be believable enough to cause any anxiety.”

Page was charged with the manufacture, possession or use of explosives and held in jail over the weekend. “Within my family, we have a robust sense of humor,” she said. With a family like that, this will surely be a hilarious story for the dinner table… someday.
