Funny. Sassy. Eccentric. All of these words describe the chihuahua. This tiny breed weighs no more than six pounds, but is full of personality and Big Dog attitude. Â Its apple-shaped head is a trademark, and its coat comes in various colors and lengths. A national symbol of Mexico, the chihuahua is one of the oldest breeds in the Americas, dating back to pre-Columbian times.
This “purse dog” is well-known in American popular culture. Reese Witherspoon’s character, Elle Woods, in the Legally Blonde franchise had a chihuahua named Bruiser as her sidekick. And we’d be remiss not to mention Paris Hilton’s tiny friend, Tinkerbell.
