Meme Of The Week: ‘Detective Pikachu’ Is The Internet’s Latest Obsession

Pokemon has been around since the 90s, with an anime that marked many childhoods and video games that are still played to this day. The release of Pokemon Go in 2016 lead to a rebirth of Pokemon interest, with people referring to this short period of time as simpler, when politics and the state of the world took a back seat to the 4 mile road you had to walk in order to catch a Charmander.

The success of Pokemon Go opened the doors to Detective Pikachu, the first live-action Pokemon movie ever, showing us how these creatures would look if they were to exist in the real world. By the looks of the trailer, Detective Pikachu is bound to be one of the strangest and most profitable movies of 2019.

The trailer has been trending since its release and audiences are much more excited than what was initially predicted. I guess no one really believed in Detective Pikachu until they saw how cute he looked with a cap on.

The Detective Pikachu memes are all over the place, referencing previous popular memes like Same Energy, Shocked Pikachu, and, A Star Is Born. For some reason, Jigglypuff, depicted as a realistic pink ball of fur who can sing, reminds a lot of people of Lady Gaga’s Ally. Pikachu has taken the inevitable role of Bradley Cooper’s Jackson Maine, and the rest is meme history. Check out some of our favorites:
