I guess when you win the “X Factor” and you’re hot and talented, you can catch the attention of just about anyone. In the case of Matt Cardle, who won the talent show back in 2010, it was Meghan Markle’s DMs he slid into back before she met Harry.
A source tells The Sun, “Matt followed Meghan [on Instagram] initially in early 2015 because he thought she was a beautiful star from Suits. But he was stunned when she followed him immediately back and started messaging him. She said she was a big fan of his work.”

According to The Sun, the Duchess of Sussex reportedly “swapped secret messages” with Cardle just months before she met Harry.
Markle is said to have suggested the two meet up before Cardle ghosted her.

Says the source: “Matt couldn’t believe a Hollywood star like Meghan would even know who he was so he was very flattered and they chatted a little bit online before she suggested meeting up.

“But then he met his girlfriend and knew it wasn’t appropriate to keep talking to Meghan so he ended up ghosting her. It felt like there could have been a connection but the timing was wrong. He didn’t reply to her last message.”
Cardle remains in the same relationship he was in while messaging Markle — 28-year-old Amber Hernaman.
Markle, on the other hand, was just getting over her split from husband Trevor Engleson, who she divorced in 2013.
It’s rather odd timing that this story would surface just after Meghan and Harry celebrated their first anniversary together, along with their newborn son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.
Some things just work themselves out.
