The Sun Is Out, Reach For Your CBD Sunscreen

Summer is here and the sun is out, which mean our body is going to be much more exposed. Sun is the source of vitamin D, which has a profound impact on our immune system. People have been thriving in the sun for thousands of years, but excess exposure to UV rays from the sun can actually damage the skin. When the sun is out, reach for your CBD sunscreen.

The official forecast calls for much warmer than normal conditions for most of the nation. For many regions, the heat will seem unrelenting, persisting from late June through early September.  This means the need for hats, lots of good fluids and sunscreen.

While sunscreen has been around since Ancient Greece (guess those togas weren’t good at protecting the skin), it has involved into a X industry to help folks from the downside of rays.  Recently , CBD sunscreens have emerged on the market and are providing cool relief for millions.  Aside from being a skin friendly carrier oil, CBD also has anti-inflammatory properties, which keeps skin from becoming inflamed by the sun. Of course CBD is working in conjunction with zinc oxide, and they seem to make a mighty team. Cannabinoid alchemists everywhere seem to be infusing sunscreen with CBD.

Concerned about getting high while baking in the sun with cbd?  Cannabidiol (CBD) is an active ingredient in the cannabis plantaccording to Harvard Health Publishing. It can be derived from either medical marijuana or hemp. Although marijuana contains cbd, it doesn’t have psychoactive effects. (THC, tetrahydrocannabinol, is the chemical that causes the high.) All that said, CBD won’t lead to any mind-altering effects.

According to a first-ever study, CBD can protect laboratory-grown skin cells from cell death triggered by UVB rays — the component of sunlight that causes sunburns, skin cancer, and premature aging.

These findings indicate that CBD could be a beneficial additive to sunscreens and may offer more protection than sunscreen alone.

The study was led by the biotechnology company Applied Biology Inc.

Target, Amazon, Walmart, JC Penny’s and whole host of other stories carry the sunscreens. Lather up and have a fun summer.

Want To Work in Marijuana, Here Are Some Tips

Some people dream of working in weed – others want to be part of a new industry.  Here are some things you might want to know

Some people dream of working in travel, others in food and some want to work in the growing marijuana industry.  Do you want to get in on “the ground floor”…although that ship is pretty much about to sail unless it is a brand new legal state.  Either way, the cannabis industry employees over 428K and still searching for good talent. Want to work in marijuana, here are some tips.

2023 goals

Coming out of Covid, that marijuana industry has had some ups and downs. California and its job market is down, but Missouri is hiring. Smaller states are experiencing an uptick while some of the legacy ones are struggling. Missouri, Michigan and New Jersey had the strongest job growth. New York, with over 1,500 unlicensed retailers, is also hiring, but it is a bit more risky.

There are four industry divisions – grow, product, retail, and ancillary.  The best current opportunities are in product and retail.

GROW

Grow is having the biggest difficulties as both legal and black market flower is flooding the market and the price per pound has dropped. It is as seen a year over year decrease of about 25% meaning they are streamlining operations.  Think of this as working in a farm or large garden operation.  An in person, hands on role that lets you nurture the plant and then ship it off to be a pre-roll, product or flower.  A smaller part of the industry but employees and owners tend to passionate, especially in developing new strains.

PRODUCT

Products remain healthy as seen on April 20th, the high holy day of cannabis sales.  Sales skyrocketed as more people enter the market and increase how often they consume.  There is an opportunity for brands that have multiple product lines and also have strong distribution.

An independently conducted poll from Jushi uncovered that, despite rising inflationary pressure and cost-saving behaviors, demand for cannabis is resilient.

39% of participants said they purchased less expensive cannabis in 2022 compared to 2021, but 73% actually spent more money per transaction this year. Additionally, THC percentage and price are the new leading factors considered when consumers purchase cannabis. Last year, branding and strain type were most important, but now 60% and 58% of respondents consider THC percent and price the most important factors, respectively.

If you go into product, make sure you understand how much they are making, selling and their growth potential. Maybe do some research and talk to your favorite retailer to see how their brand is selling.

RETAIL

Retail is definitely not a work at home but rather a vibrant chance to interact and learn from customers.  Retailers are often open 7 days a week and have traditional boom times such as July 4th, holiday weekends, winter holidays, etc.  Smart ones also work to minimize slow times. A recent survey from CivicScience found that 21% of people doing Dry January — a popular trend where you abstain from alcohol for the month — are replacing alcohol with cannabis and CBD. The same survey uncovered that the largest demographic of people replacing alcohol with cannabis are aged 21-24 (34%), followed by 25-34-year-olds (24%).  If you go into retail, act professional, know and connect with your customers and look for ways for the company (and you) to increase sales and profits.  Strong salespeople ALWAYS have a good career paths.

Ancillary

Ancillary includes all the “picks and shovels” business such as marketing and packaging firms to point of sale systems.  This area has taken a hit and responded in a unique way.  Cannabis firms have lost business to mainstream firms and cannabis ancillary firms are branching out to more mainstream clients.

If you have talent in ancillary area – be it tech, sales, marketing, insurance, so on, consider looking at large and boutique mainstream agencies/companies and asking them if you can help lead up their marijuana division.

On a last note, marijuana is still an emerging industry with a chance to make a name for yourself with hard work and gumption.

Tinctures

Cannabis tinctures have been around for centuries but fell out of favor in the 1930s following the U.S. prohibition of marijuana. But the potent method is making a comeback as more and more Americans find non-smoked marijuana healthier and cleaner. This is the easiest way to enjoy cannabis without smoking.

Tinctures are essentially concentrated marijuana in liquid form. Dosing varies depending, but in general an eyedropper or two. When you read a story about a child using CBD oil to combat epileptic seizures, chances are he or she is medicated via tincture.

Tinctures are discreet and easily fit in a purse or pocket. Add an eyedropper to a beverage or take it straight.

And even if THC was present in these products (most don’t), it will not be absorbed by the CB2 receptors on your epidermis. So you get the therapeutic benefit without any of the euphoria.

Vape Pens

While it is on the edge, you can enjoy marijuana without smoking by vaping. Vape pens are the third most popular category in Canada and second most popular in the US, capturing 17.1% and 23.6% market share respectively according to respected data firm Headset. The slim, inconspicuous, ubiquitous devices have become standard use factor for many enthusiasts. The vape pens are easy to carry and conceal when discretion is key. Concentrates

For the more adventurous think wax, shatter, oil or crumble. You’re going to be hearing these terms a lot if you start hitting up the local marijuana store.

These are concentrates typically producing an enhanced and quicker high. If you are a beginner, be careful. Concentrates are for those with a higher tolerance for THC and/or medical patients that require super-intense dosages.

Best advice, leave these extracts to those who know what they’re doing. Find a savvy friend to show you the ropes the first few times. And prepare to sit or lay down. There are many other ways to enjoy cannabis without smoking or concentrates.

Please note, synthetic marijuana is NOT an alternative. Please leave that stuff to the amateurs.  This weekend, kick back, chill and have an adventure.

You Might Want Some Cannabis or CBD For Pickle Ball

People of all ages have jumped into Pickle ball – but for some, it is a pathway to short (and maybe) long term sports injuries

Pickleball has become the new hot thing in the summer months!  Nine million Americans head to the court and over a million Canadians grab a racket all to play the sports fad. While it started in the mid-60s, since Covid it is becoming very mainstream.  It is an easy, fast “ish” paced game for all ages that are mobile.  But for some who aren’t usually as nimble and athletic – it can be a bit of challenge. You might want some cannabis or CBD for pickle ball because accidents happen.

The most common injuries include

  • Calf strains and tears
  • Flares of knee arthritis
  • Herniated disks in the lower back
  • Meniscus tears
  • MCL, LCL, hamstring and ankle strains
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Achilles injuries

Because pickleball players swing paddles, the upper extremities — shoulder, wrist, elbow — are also prone to injuries. Those include:

  • Tennis and golfer’s elbow (tendinitis involving the forearm muscles)
  • Wrist tendinitis
  • Rotator cuff tendinitis and tears
  • Labral tears

Many of these are inflammation or topical injuries that can be treated with marijuana or cbd.  For serious injuries like tears or breaks – it can help you with pain before and after you see a physician. Increasingly, professional athletes in sports ranging from football to bicycling to long-distance running have turned to using cannabis to reduce pain from post-game injuries and to help speed recovery.

RELATED: Why You Should Be Using Cannabis, Not Ice, For Injuries

People unfamiliar with marijuana aren’t usually aware that it has so many healing properties, mainly its anti-inflammatory effect. Inflammation can result after an injury either on the field or due to conditions like arthritis. Using cannabidiol (CBD), the non-psychoactive component of marijuana, may be more effective (and practical) for treating sprains and injuries. In fact, it can take the place of ice completely. CBD is simply more convenient since you can carry topicals for spot treatment as well as oral CBD products for when you have an accident. It also has the added benefit of being free from THC, which is an advantage for athletes.

So if you are picking up the racket and head out, know that marijuana can be helpful if something goes wrong on court.

We Asked AI To Write An Article On Cannabis

With the major tech companies focusing on advancing artificial intelligence (AI), remarkable changes and challenges are right around the corner.  There is all sorts of opportunities over the next few years and it will have a profound change on how some things operate.  Alphabet (Google) CEO Sundar Pichai warns about the impact on society.  We wanted to see what it thought of marijuana, so we asked AI to write an article on cannabis. It whipped this out in seconds.

Cannabis has been used for medicinal purposes for thousands of years, and recent studies have shown that it can provide relief for a variety of conditions. Here are some of the benefits of cannabis supported by verified studies:

  1. Chronic pain relief: Cannabis has been found to be effective in treating chronic pain in adults. This is because it contains compounds called cannabinoids, which interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system to reduce pain and inflammation.
  2. Nausea and vomiting relief: Cannabis has also been found to be effective in treating chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting1. This is because cannabinoids can interact with the body’s serotonin receptors to reduce nausea and vomiting.
  3. Appetite stimulation: Cannabis has been found to be effective in increasing appetite and decreasing weight loss associated with HIV/AIDS. This is because cannabinoids can interact with the body’s cannabinoid receptors to stimulate appetite.

These are just a few of the benefits of cannabis supported by verified studies. However, it is important to note that claims of effectiveness should be critically evaluated and treated with caution. Additionally, cannabis can have side effects and can be addictive, so it is important to use it under the guidance of a healthcare professional.

If you are interested in learning more about the benefits and risks of cannabis, there are many resources available. The documentary “The Cannabis Question” by NOVA on PBSprovides an in-depth look at the little-known risks and benefits of cannabis3. Additionally, the National Cancer Institute provides a comprehensive overview of the current state of evidence and recommendations for research on cannabis and cannabinoids.

When Are Edibles Too Old To Consume?

Wine can age well and vodka and other liquors can last on a shelf for ages making them generally worry free product if stored correctly. Now cigarettes, once opened and exposed to air, usually last about two days before going stale.  But what about marijuana edibles? When are they too old? It depends on the type of edible and how it is made.

RELATED: 8 Things You Need To Know About Eating Marijuana Edibles

The basic rule is to treat edibles like any other food items. If it has dairy in it and has been left out for more than a few days, you’ll want to smell it before taking a chance and even that’s not foolproof.

https://giphy.com/gifs/greatbigstory-great-big-story-durian-xT1R9yFzscIXMWxpOE

If it’s vegan and made with a stable oil like coconut, it’s more likely to still be good, though it may have gone a bit stale.

The best thing to do with edibles when you get them is to put them in the refrigerator or freezer, depending on how many you have and how long you want them to keep. Generally, a dairy filled goodie will last around a week in the fridge, while you can keep many edibles for up to six months in the freezer.

“I wouldn’t go longer than 2 weeks! The cocoa butter will oxidize and if the temperature isn’t stable it can cause the chocolate to become untempered and the texture starts to feel mealy” says celebrity chef Justin Khanna who is a YouTuber, podcaster and the founder of the modern hospitality education company Repertoire.

Maybe even more than spoilage, however, you’re wondering about the potency of the edible and if it’s going to hold its mettle. The answer is a resounding yes. Some people even claim on social threads that the edibles they have get more potent the longer they go without being eaten.

RELATED: Are Marijuana Edibles Better For Your Brain Than Smoking?

“Gummies have a very long shelf life. The same issues that would negatively alter the “quality” of a gummy are the same things that would degrade THC potency: heat, light, and oxygen. The potency and quality of a gummy should last a full year if you keep your gummies in an airtight container and in a stored in a cool dark place.” says Matt Regusci, technical director of Cannabis Safety & Quality (CSQ).

Hard candies and gummies likely last the longest without refrigeration or freezing. The gummies might lose their chewiness over time, but they’re not likely to spoil. Hard candies are the edible to stock up on if you’re going on a trip where you can’t be smoking, but still want to be elevated.

For the most part, you’re just going to be using common sense with the aging edibles. If you see any mold? Toss it and get or make some more. If it’s stale? That’s you and your palate’s call.

The smell test is another tried and true way – if it has a weird smell, toss it!

Russian And Marijuana

Russians would rather do a shot than a hit…and the average person for good reason

Brittney Griner is home safe for having a vape pen while traveling in Russia…but what about all those Russians who want to kick back and chill? Well, things are definitely not easy. What about Russians and marijuana. The home of vodka and vodka shots takes a very dim view of cannabis use.

Will Brittney Griner Incident Push US Government To Change Their Cannabis Laws?

The Russians drink some 17.3 shots of vodka per month on average, according to data from Euromonitor. That’s easily the most in the world. The Polish, the second biggest vodka drinkers, throw back about 13.7 shots per month; while Ukrainians drink roughly 10 shots per month. Americans come in at only 3.8.  While studies show American

Studies show roughly 18% of Americans use weed at least once a year. In Canada it is 19% and in Europe it comes to about 10-11%. Not as popular or as commonly used in other European countries, it is estimated that just under 4% of the Russian population uses cannabis.  Well, and for good reason – forced labor is a true buzz kill.

In 2004 the drug policy of Russia was liberalized. For various drugs (including marijuana), the amount that individuals could possess without facing criminal charges was revised upwards. In particular, the possession limit for cannabis was set at 20 grams, so that less than this amount would be only an administrative offense with no threat of jail time. Previously, possessing even a single cannabis joint qualified as a criminal offense!

In 2006 Russian policy reversed again to lower the possession limits for various drugs, with the criminal limit for cannabis going from 20 g to 6 g. Possession of less than 6 grams qualified as an administrative offense punishable by a 5000 ruble (about $61 US dollars) fine or 15 days detention.  Large-scale possession results in a fine of 40,000 rubles ($489 US dollars), 480 hours of compulsory labor or 2 years of corrective labor or up to three years in prison or restricted freedom.

Now $61 dollars doesn’t sound like much but considering the average income there and WHOA – it could be painful. Russia Annual Household Income per capita reached 7,932.623 US dollar in Dec 2022, compared with the previous value of 6,561.323 USD in Dec 2021. Russia

The US is not perfect with thousands of cannabis prisoners still serving time behind bars for merely possessing a plant that is legal in some form in over half of the United States.

Foot Pain ? Maybe CBD can help

It isn’t until our feet begin to hurt and suffer do we appreciate how much we use them.  The phrase running around is all thanks to our feet. Up to 87 percent of people have foot pain at some time in their lives for different reasons. One-third of older adults have foot pain, stiffness, or aching feet. Many of these problems come from poorly fitting shoes.

Suffers try soaking their feet, massages, arch supports, pain relievers and many other ways to ease the pain. But if you have foot pain, maybe cbd can help. It has anti-inflammatory benefits, which may help relieve some aches and pains in the feet.

General aches and pains

Spring is here and summer is on the way, which usually means more outdoor time. Sports, hiking, pickle ball and long walks over a variety of surfaces means more activity and potential more general foot pain.  Research is promising that CBD oil can reduce inflammation and have a similar effect to taking pain medication—but without the side effects. The results may vary for everyone, of course. If you have foot pain that doesn’t go away after a few days or weeks, you’ll want to see your doctor.

Blisters

One ugly topic no one wants to discuss: Blisters. But they happen! (Especially if you are a distance runner or when you get new shoes that don’t quite fit right.) CBD oil is packed with anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties, which may help. To treat one, make sure you clean your blister first. Then use a cotton pad soaked in CBD oil and dab it onto the affected area. Do this a few times a day, and your blister may heal faster than usual.

Don’t let this trip up enjoying life, if you have foot pain, see if cbd can help.  With warm weather, sandals, running barefoot and outdoors activities, it is a good idea to keep an open mind and get a step ahead for the care of your feet.

4/20 Shows Huge Consumer Potential In Marijuana Industry

Strong sales during this year’s annual high holiday of 4/20 shows the strength of the market despite government and company flub ups

Some cannabis industry experts say the marijuana industry is all doom and gloom.  President Biden refusing to allow any legalization to move forward despite promises coupled with California, New York and other states bungling taxes that make black market products way more attractive has delivered a blow to the legal market.  Add a glut of cheap product and some poorly run companies and the industry has lost some of its encomia luster.  But when you peel back layers of ineptitude, you see a VERY strong consumer demand that grows each year.  The traditional “high holy day” of cannabis sales has been 4/20. April 20 has become an international counterculture holiday based on the celebration and consumption of cannabis and consumers came out in force this year! It shows huge consumer potential in marijuana industry.

Headset’s saw on 4/20 more than $100 million transactions – and at one point sales hit $160k per minute. They have a cool video mapping sales for the day across the U.S.

From Maine to Nevada retailers were bustling with sales and shop owners showed a sigh of relief. Product companies also benefited from the uptick. Hopes remain high for other traditional high use days (July 4th, Memorial Day weekend) right around the corner.

US Cannabis Sales Projected To Hit $28 Billion In 2022

Green Market Report, the premier cannabis business site, shared Jane Technologies said that its data showed that 4/20 sales in 2023 increased by 9.7% over 2022, coming in at an estimated $26 million.

The top five selling product categories in 2023, according to Jane Technologies, were:

  • Flower: $10,346,361
  • Vape: $6,623,246
  • Edible: $3,128,225
  • Extract: $2,028,396
  • Preroll: $1,873,570

Keep in mind, this is only the legal tracked sales and doesn’t count all the black market transaction – including the hundreds of unlinscend shops in New York City.

If any presidential administration can move forward on legalization and a basic tax structure, you would have another boom for the economy in right sized tax income, jobs and healthy small businesses.  It would also start closing the door on the black market and some of the more “shady” players.  But meanwhile, the winner every day is the customer.

Marijuana Industry Reaction To Biden Running For Second Term

Biden’s announcement to run for a second term causes pause and angst for the cannabis industry. Thousands of small businesses hang in balance over his actions.

President Biden announced his run for second term with Vice President Kamala Harris yesterday and it was definitely new for the cannabis industry. What is the marijuana industry reaction to Biden running for a second term? It is defiantly mixed on social media with still a small ray of hope he will move cannabis legalization forward.  There has been constant rumors for the last year of rescheduling, presidential acts and public support of SAFE banking…and yet nothing significant to help the businesses that help people consume.  And with nothing to strategically end the black market.

“If Biden is re-elected, I expect his administration will continue the do-nothing neutral impact on cannabis companies in the United States, which is less than the industry needs today.  This will only feed the black market and harm small businesses”, Kyle Shenfeld, President Rainbow RG, one of the leading real estate financiers in the cannabis industry.

Andrew Cooper at Falcon Rappaport & Berkman and a leading industry cannabis and psychedelics attorney shared “While President Biden’s first term electrified cannabis enthusiasts and industry professionals alike with promises of federal legalization, his announcement that he would be running for a second term was met with little cannabis-related fanfare. Despite his recent initiation of the review process to reconsider the scheduling of cannabis and his pardoning of federal prisoners convicted of simple possession offenses, proponents of legalization remain unimpressed. The fact is that the Biden administration is comprised of disguised prohibitionists. Perhaps it is the administration’s unapologetic distaste for the plant and the Justice Department’s openly aggressive position that had led to the lack of confidence in this administration. While it may not be too late for Biden to win back the hearts of the cannabis industry, repeated broken promises has led many to look beyond this administration for relief.”

It definitely is key to investors in the growing interesting as Ted M. Mottola from Hilltop Vantage Capital points out “As Biden announces his run for reelection with an economic downturn looming, we all hope for a bit more progress to be made on cannabis financial regulation. Capital constraints are becoming tighter everyday for “normal” businesses, and that is only amplified for cannabis and cannabis adjacent businesses. Both companies and investors are waiting for that next tipping point that will allow a fresh flow of capital to move the cannabis sector to the next phase of its maturity.

If the current administration does not make progress during this term, or the potential second term, they will lose the opportunity to craft legislation in their preferred structure and risk the opposing party building it in its own framework.”

Advocates are calling for an expansion of Biden’s marijuana pardon, specifically, one that includes immigrants that have been deported due to these types of offenses. Biden’s pardons affect nearly 6,500 Americans. Still, these pardons only affect US residents and citizens.

On the Democratic side, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) has been pushing Biden and his administration to legalize cannabis and make medical marijuana available to suffering veterans.  In the “politics makes strange bedfellows” category – she is on the same page as GOP Congresswoman Nancy Mace.

Green Market Report founder and publisher Debra Borchardt, the leading cannabis business site states “I think if he gets elected there will be a good chance of some movement for legalization. When you don’t have to worry about reelection, you can take more risks.  I am cautious optimistic in a second term”.
