Google Chrome Extension Helps You Procrastinate By Making Netflix Resemble A Conference Call

Netflix Hangouts is a cool and potentially dangerous idea for those of us who tend to procrastinate. The Google Chrome extension makes your computer look like you’re on a conference call. That is until someone takes a closer look and notices that some of the faces that appear on the screen are actually characters from Stranger Things.

The bizarre extension claims to distract you with Netflix while you’re supposed to be at work, splitting your screen in four and filling three of these spaces with stock video footage of strangers. The fourth space will stream whatever content you’re interested in watching on Netflix. The result is, crazily enough, quite convincing.

While this seems like a hard trick to pull off at work or while doing anything where you need to pay a minimum amount of attention, it’s still a cool trick. Maybe you could use it in coffee shops or libraries, where you want to appear busy and smart instead of being who you are, which is a person who re-watches Friends at Starbucks.

Netflix Hangouts is worth a look just out of curiosity’s sake. Just try to avoid getting fired or something. Sooner or later, someone’s gonna start wondering why one of your video calls looks so much livelier and cooler when compared to the blank faces that stare at you from pixelated laptop cameras.

Meghan Markle Is Really Struggling With ‘The Intensity Of Spotlight’

As a consequence of the birth of her firstborn child and in trying to keep the affair as private as possible, Meghan Markle feels more pressured and isolated than ever. A royal source spoke to People Magazine and said: “Meghan has struggled with the intensity of the spotlight. Although she is a former actress, this is on a different level.”

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been clear about their desire to keep their life and the first months of their newborn private, choosing to be much more selective about public appearances when compared to Kate Middleton and Prince William.

For the christening of Archie, Meghan and Harry chose to hold a quiet ceremony at the Queen’s private chapel, ensuring for as much privacy as possible. The names of the baby’s godparents were kept private and only two images were released to the press.

People reports that although Meghan is experiencing a tough time, her relationship with Kate Middleton has improved since they’ve found some common ground with the birth of Archie. This new experience has brought them together and made them realize that they have a lot in common, much more than with anyone else. The royal source says that motherhood can be “lonely at times, and you do feel quite isolated. But so many other mothers are going through exactly what you are going through.”

Royal commentator Victoria Arbiter says that babies are “a great leveler” and agents capable of making people take new a perspective and focus on the things that matter the most in the long run. “The minute you’re bonding over your stories and sleepless nights, suddenly all the stuff that mattered before doesn’t matter anymore.”

South Park Creators Napalm Corporate Cannabis Drop A Hint

I’m starting to believe South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker actually want to start a marijuana business. In its last season, which aired last year, a through line plot involved Randy Marsh moving away from the city, full of violence and trauma, and into the country to start a marijuana farm. To represent Randy’s mission of purity, he named his operation Tegridy Farms.

Over the weekend, the South Park Studios YouTube page released a video parodying the giant corporate players emerging in the cannabis industry. No company took more of a direct target than MedMen, as the South Park guys seem to be directly satirizing the retail chain’s promotional ad directed by Spike Jonze and starring Jesse Williams. The clip begins with direct references to MedMen’s “New Normal” campaign, before transitioning into a quite funny takedown.

Warning: A couple images, including one corporate cannabis fellow enjoying coitus with a pig, is very NSFW.

“Our country did lose its way and begin a War on Drugs that was and still is just a war on people,” Randy Marsh narrates in the video. “And then a bunch of young corporate banker types come along telling us we’re all in the ‘new normal,’ as they try to turn god’s green miracle into an easy buck for themselves.

“They even hire fancy Hollywood directors to make them look all hip and cool,” Randy continues. “But you know what? Fuck those guys. They ain’t got no integrity.”

MedMen has faced serious scrutiny this year. Its former CFO James Parker alleged in a lawsuit he was wrongfully terminated after confronting company executives for unlawful behavior and racist comments. In addition, the company is under pressure from considerable financial woes, as we reported back in April.

But as Marijuana Moment reported, the South Park creators could be doing more than just poking fun here. Tegridy Farms LLC has been officially registered in Colorado and Oregon, though reports remain unclear if the South Park guys are behind it.

The clip concludes with Randy announcing that 100% of Tegridy’s profits will be donated to charities “that work to right the wrongs of the drug war until weed is legal nationwide.”

“You see, that’s Tegridy. Those other guys? No Tegridy,” he says. “Do you want some fucking Tegridy? Don’t you wish everyone had some goddamn Tegridy? Well soon, everyone can.”

We can only hope that everyone will have some Tegridy soon enough.

Queen Elizabeth Is The Sweetest Great Grandma; Natalie Portman Announced As Female Thor

Queen Elizabeth Is the Sweetest Great-Grandma to Prince George

Via Yahoo:

A source shares that Prince George has a special relationship with his great-grandmother, who you may know as the Queen of England.

She apparently leaves him gifts by his bed whenever he says over!

According to Daily Mail, Queen Elizabeth “goes out of her way to spend time with him”—which is saying something for a woman who is so busy that she missed her other great-grandchild’s christening a couple of weeks ago (looking @ you, baby Archie). George reportedly calls the queen “Gan Gan” (so sweet!), and she likes to make him feel welcome whenever he stays over at the palace. A source shares, “the doting Queen takes time to select little presents that she leaves at the foot of George’s bed every time he stays over.” Aww, that’s such a normal great-grandma thing to do!

Natalie Portman Announced To Play Marvel’s First-Ever Female Thor

Via IHeartRadio:

Natalie Portman will be handed down the hammer in Marvel’s Thor: Love And Thunder.

Portman, who played Jane Foster in the first two Thor movies, will return to the franchise to portray the female Thor in the fourth Thor installment, the film’s director, Taika Waititi, confirmed Saturday (July 20). The Portman starrer, slated to open in theaters on November 5, 2021, was announced during San Diego Comic-Con, where other Phase 4 projects for the Marvel Cinematic Universe were unveiled.

Joining co-stars Chris Hemworth (Thor) and Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie) on stage as the audience erupted with applause, Portman was given a Hasbro replica of the mystic hammer just for the occasion, which she proudly accepted. “I’ve always had hammer envy,” she admitted to the crowd.

Why Are Professional Golfers Obsessed With CBD Oil

To say that golfers have been secretly flirting with CBD oil over the past couple of years is a bit of an understatement. Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson were heavily suggested to be consuming CBD-infused gum at recent tournaments this year, including the Masters which Woods won. Then Bubba Watson stepped outside the glass box and announced a multi-year partnership with cbdMD, back in May.

Watson commented at the time that he believed CBD could be used to ease whatever ailments and inflammation he’s accrued over his career. The 40-year-old golfer said CBD would “create longevity” in his career, and that he “had doctors involved to do my research and see what companies out there make a product that’s safe for me and safe for my family. It was a no brainer,” Watson said.

Funny enough, the trend of golfers reaching for CBD oil started on the PGA Champions Tour, as detailed by a recent ESPN story. The PGA Champions Tour is a senior golf tour for players over the age of 50—meaning they feel the aches and pains of playing more than their younger counterparts. But CBD is more readily embraced by older players for another reason. Players on the PGA Champions Tour are drug tested differently.

“I think everybody [on the main Tour] was taking a wait-and-see approach,” PGA Champion Tour golfer Scott McCarron told ESPN. “They want to make sure it is legal and there is nothing in it. One of the things with the Tour, to their credit, they put out a statement saying it’s not illegal to take this substance, but you better make sure you know what’s in it.

RELATED: Does Soaking In CBD Help Sore Muscles?

“There’s so many CBD companies out there right now, that you might not know what’s in it. So if you’re on the PGA Tour, you better do your homework and make sure there’s nothing in it that can give you a positive test.”

Senior vice president of tournament administration Andy Levinson told ESPN the PGA Tour views CBD as a permitted substance under its guidelines. That means any golfer consume CBD will be at their own risk should they take any products that include THC beyond the Tour’s legal threshold, or if their CBD products contain other substances that would qualify as a failed drug test.

This falls in line with a PGA Tour newsletter sent in April to players, warning them “CBD products (like all supplements) pose a risk to athletes” due to lack of government regulation.

“Taking a poorly labeled supplement that is contaminated with a prohibited substance is NOT a defense to a violation of the Program,” the PGA newsletter read. “Therefore, we strongly recommend that if players choose to use supplements, they only use those that are NSF Certified for Sport.”

But McCarron believes CBD will only become more popular for golfers moving forward. That includes everyday golfers hitting the links on the weekend, who might reach for alcohol to calm their nerves while golfing. The more we learn about CBD and demystify it, the more other will embrace it, says McCarron.

“What the perception was, when someone said CBD initially, [was] is it THC, is this marijuana, is it legal?” McCarron told ESPN. “I think there was a misconception of what it really was, a hemp oil. I think there was a lot of buzz about it, but people weren’t really sure. I wasn’t really sure what to think of it. But when you find out what’s really in it, what isn’t in it, that it’s natural and that the levels of THC are so minute, I think it’s going to continue to take off.”

Here’s One Thing You’ll Never See A British Royal Do

Before Prince Harry came along, Meghan Markle was used to signing autographs for adoring fans, but that all changed as soon as she became a royal. That’s because the Royal Family is not allowed to sign their name on…anything, for fear of forgery.

It may sound old-timey, but it’s been standard practice for years.

As Best Life points out, the no autograph rule was famously broken by one royal rebel, Princess Diana, who was known for sending signed photos of herself as a “thank you” for those who helped her out, like designers. They note that during the auction of her dress in 1997, Princess Di signed the catalog “for a few lucky attendees.” Her famous loopy signature appeared on the cover of Tina Brown’s best seller, The Diana Chronicles, after the princess’ death.

According to London-based Express, Diana’s husband, Prince Charles, also broke protocol in 2010 when he signed an autograph for a flood victim (he wrote “Charles 2010″ on a piece of paper). But his usual response to an autograph request is: “Sorry, they don’t allow me to do that.”

It’s too bad Megs can’t give out autographs. Her handwriting is out of this world. She told Esquire in 2013 that she learned the art of calligraphy during her time at an all-girls Catholic school, back when they still taught handwriting.

“I’ve always had a propensity for getting the cursive down pretty well,” she said. “What it evolved into was my pseudo-waitressing job when I was auditioning. I didn’t wait tables. I did calligraphy for the invitations for, like, Robin Thicke and Paula Patton’s wedding.”

For anyone who is still holding on to a Meghan Markle autograph from her acting days, you may be sitting on your retirement fund.

This Week’s Music, Sam Smith, Beyonce, And More

This Week’s Music is a weekly column that discusses the week’s best, worst, and most interesting songs. We try to select songs of different artists and genres to keep things interesting and to please a variety of music fans.

This week’s column features Sam Smith’s last single, Charli XCX’s contribution with Christine and the Queens, and Beyoncé’s work on The Lion King. Check them out!

Pop

Sam Smith – How Do You Sleep?

RELATED: This Week’s Music: Rosalia, Miraa May And Mika

Sam Smith’s latest song follows the path he’s been slowly putting together since the release of his last album. Focusing more on dance beats that embrace queer dance culture, “How Do You Sleep?” starts off slow, quickly gaining momentum until it transforms into something else. Although it does so less successfully than Smith’s previous contributions with Calvin Harris and Normani, “How Do You Sleep?” shows a promising new leaf for his sound and his evolution as a musician.

Charli XCX & Christine and the Queens – Gone

RELATED: This Week’s Music: Beyonce, Billie Eilish And Ed Sheeran

Charli XCX has grown into a sort of leader of alternate pop, having a distinct sound and set of devoted followers. After a couple of successful singles she partnered up with Christine and the Queens, another alt-pop icon, and delivered this glossy and slightly strange song. “Gone” is very rooted in its pop sound yet it’s completely different to anything else other pop singers are producing, with a music video that pushes boundaries and matches its sound and spirit. Charli XCX’s upcoming album, called Charli, will be released on September 13.

Beyoncé, Jay Z & Childish Gambino – MOOD 4 EVA

Who would have thought that Beyoncé’s contributions to “The Lion King” would not limit themselves to simple voice acting and gracing the world with her presence on public locations but also to developing a couple of really great songs. Of course, Beyoncé being Beyoncé had to release an entire album about it. “MOOD 4 EVA” is the best song of the Lion King soundtrack, wisely handing Bey the spotlight yet taking advantage of the talents of Jay Z and Donald Glover who mellow the whole thing out.

Dogs of Instagram: Rottweiler

Playful with its owners and aloof with strangers, the Rottweiler (a.k.a. the “Rottie”) is a powerful working breed that makes a great protector for most families. The Rottie’s muscular glutes give it that silly wiggle we all love. No one told the Rottie it’s not a lap dog, so don’t be surprised if that big butt ends up on your lap.

Here, we find some Rottie’s on Instagram that make you go awwwww.

This Is One Food The Royal Family Can Never Eat

All of us have food preferences. We don’t like our food to be spicy or we’d rather not eat bread. But when it comes to the Royal Family, they don’t have food preferences. Instead they have food rules.

The only possible downside to being a member of the Royal Family is that eating shellfish is forbidden. As previously reported by the BBC, those in line to the throne are banned from eating shellfish because it contains a high risk of foodborne illness. That means no lobster, no shrimp cocktails, and no mussels.

In addition, the Royal Family is strongly advised to avoid meats cooked rare and drinking tap water while visiting foreign countries. This is to avoid any potential bug while fulfilling their busy schedule full of important responsibilities.

RELATED: Meghan Markle Had To Give Up Garlic To Be A Royal

And if you’re eating with Queen Elizabeth, you’ll experience even more dietary restrictions. Reportedly, Buckingham Palace chefs can’t cook with garlic in the Queen’s presence. However this is not for any safety reasons. It’s just because she doesn’t like the taste.

“The Queen is a wonderful lady, the royal family are wonderful people but they’re missing out on garlic because at Buckingham Palace you don’t cook with garlic. I suppose, in case you get the royal burp,” Chef John Higgins, a Buckingham Palace former chef, told the National Post.

The Queen also has a no-starch rule for dinner. You won’t be eating any yummy potatoes or pasta in her presence. As another former chef told The Telegraph, usually they’d prepare something like “grilled sole with vegetables and salad.”

RELATED: 10 Celebrities And The Foods They Refuse To Eat

Perhaps one of the quirkiest diet inclusions involves a snack Queen Elizabeth won’t travel without: chocolate biscuit cake.

Via Recipes Plus:

“Now the Chocolate Biscuit Cake is the only cake that goes back again and again and again every day until it’s all gone,” [former Royal Chef Darren] McGrady said. “She’ll take a small slice every day until eventually there is only one tiny piece, but you have to send that up, she wants to finish the whole of that cake.”

Oh, and the staff not dare take a piece of her chocolate cake. McGrady says if a slice were missing, she would notice. Also, if Her Majesty were traveling to Windsor Castle and there was Chocolate Biscuit Cake left over, the senior chef would follow on a train with the cake in tow.

So now you know. If you want to live that Royal Family lifestyle, eat the cake, but leave the shellfish.
