Bubba Watson Believes CBD For Golfers A No Brainer

Somehow, CBD has become a hot topic in the world of golf. Last month, players received a letter from the PGA Tour warning them not to take CBD-infused substances, in case the substance contained any linger THC cannabinoids (which could get players suspended). Then, following the newest bubblegum trend of golfers, highlighted by Tiger Woods winning the Masters while chomping away on some gum, rumors circulated that golfers like Woods and Phil Mickelson could be using CBD gum to calm their nerves.

Now, two-time Masters champion Bubba Watson is joining the CBD conversation. Watson believes CBD could sustain his career for several more years, he said in a recent interview with CNN Sports. Watson, who just turned 40, uses the cannabinoid to ease the strains and pains he’s endured over the course of his career. Bubba Watson believes CBD for golfers a no brainer.

“I see Phil Mickelson winning at 48, so I’ve got at least eight more years of having a shot of winning some tournaments,” Watson told CNN Sports’ Don Riddell.

“So for me it was about how I create longevity in the game of golf and spending time with my kids running around. CBD was easily a fit for me,” he added.

The World Anti-Doping Agency, the governing body of the Olympics, approved CBD usage among athletes because their research indicated it wasn’t damaging to athletes or a performance-enhancing drug. The PGA Tour follows protocol set by WADA, opening the doors for players like Watson to experiment with it as a pain reliever. Because despite the PGA Tour’s warning, he believes what he’s doing lies within the rules.

“I’ve had doctors involved to do my research and see what companies out there make a product that’s safe for me and safe for my family. It was a no brainer,” Watson said.

“There’s no bad stuff in it, there are no chemicals in there that will mess you up or make you fail a drugs test. There are certain companies we trust.”

Speaking of which, Watson announced this week a multi-year partnership with cbdMD, a company that makes CBD products. Watson will wear the company’s logo on both sides of his hat while playing in tournaments.

“By joining forces with one of the biggest names in the sport, we’re excited to see how the golf community embraces the newfound popularity of CBD,” Caryn Dunayer, cbdMD’s President, said in a statement (via Forbes). “We’re looking forward to the continued success of Bubba, while educating the public on the many benefits of hemp-derived CBD.”

Let’s home the PGA agrees with Bubba Watson believing CBD a no brainer for players.

Likely Godparents Of Meghan And Harry’s Baby

It’s almost that time! Baby Sussex (“Who?” – Prince George) is going to arrive any minute now, setting off a domino effect of even more anticipation. First, is it a boy or girl? What is his or her name? What is his or her title? And who are the likely godparents of Meghan and Harry’s baby?

It’s a busy time for U.K. betting site Ladbrokes, which is already taking bets on likely baby names (Grace is the frontrunner) and due date. And according to them, the leading picks for godparents include Harry’s longtime friend Charlie Van Straubenzee (1/8 odds) and Meghan’s close friend and stylist Jessica Mulroney (1/3 odds).

RELATED: Odds Are High Meghan Markle And Prince Harry Will Name Their Kid This

According to People, it won’t be a surprise if Charlie is chosen because the two have known each other forever, first meeting at prep school. Harry was a classmate of Charlie’s late brother, Henry, who died in a car crash in 2002. And Prince William is a close friend of Charlie’s other brother, Thomas, who is a godfather to Princess Charlotte.

As for Jessica, all three of her kids served as attendants in Meghan’s wedding; her young daughter, Ivy, was one of Meghan’s bridesmaids, while her two sons were page boys. Jessica also helped Meghan plan her wedding, pick out her wedding dress designer (Jessica is a stylist, after all) and attended her baby shower in NYC.

Although it’s unlikely, Meghan and Harry’s celeb pals George and Amal Clooney are frontrunners for potential celebrity godparents (8/1 odds). Meghan’s good freind Serena Williams is next with 10/1 odds, and David Beckham has a 20/1 chance. Elton John, who performed at the couple’s wedding reception, and Oprah are last with 33/1 odds.

But it’s totally possible Harry and Megs will choose more than one set of godparents.  Prince George has seven godparents, Princess Charlotte has five and Prince Louis has six.

CBD Burger And The Rise Of CBD Infused Edibles

0

CBD infused edibles are now commercially available in select stores, particularly in states where cannabis consumption is legal. And no edible has received as much hype as when news broke fast-food chain Carl’s Jr. would be selling CBD infused burgers in honor of 4/20.

CBD is one of the most mainstream cannabis by-products, mainly because it doesn’t get you high. It does not contain the same compounds found in THC, the main agent of cannabis’ heady and euphoric properties. CBD products are used widely, especially by patients to medicate and manage certain medical conditions. One of the more popular products are CBD cartridges used in vaporizers, like the Yocan UNI. These CBD cartridges contain essential oils that can also be used in other types of vaping devices like the Yocan Trio which use pods.

Rocky Mountain High, the aptly named Carl’s Jr. burger, is made with two beef patties, waffle fries, pepper jack cheese, a bunch of jalapenos, and a special CBD-infused sauce.  The burger, which Carl’s Jr. says only has about 5 mg of CBD in it, was sold as a promotional item on April 4. Curious consumers lined up early to be some of the first to get their munchies. One blogger commented people might save the receipts to immortalize the moment where the first CBD infused burger sold.

CBD infused food is now at an all-time high with Carl’s Jr.’s special 4/20 burger making  headlines. CBD edibles were already incredibly popularity, but the buzz generated from this fast food company took it to a new level. Like Carl’s Jr., many companies are putting CBD in their products; coffee and other beverages, pastries and confectioneries and even gummy bears and jelly beans have CBD in them. Even vaporizer manufacturers like Yocan, now manufacture products that are geared towards consumption of CBD.

With all that’s CBD has going on for itself, it’s not a far-fetched idea to see more and more CBD infused edibles on the market. The launch of Carl’s Jr.’s cannabis infused burger made CBD edibles all the more popular since many consumers are seeing this either as an excuse or as an alternative way to take in CBD.

The Feds Are Arresting People At DFW Over Hemp

Rod Kight from.  CANNABIS LAW REPORT report brings us a crazy report about what is happing at the Dallas/Fortworth (DFW) airport!

One single, small amount of CBD oil that you thought was cool to take on a trip with you, could result in life-changing effects,” says Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) US Customs (CBP) Port Director Cleatus Hunt Jr. in this recent news article. In fact, according to Hunt, any THC found at the airport can result in a DFW police bust.

Although I was unable to find an official US Customs policy regarding cannabidiol (CBD) on its website, a spokesperson for the CBP recently told a Texas news agency that “CBD oil is considered a controlled substance under U.S. Federal law. Travelers found in possession of controlled substances at U.S. ports of entry can face arrest, seizures, fines, penalties or denied entry.”

RELATED: Did The 2018 Farm Bill Open The Door To Importing Hemp?

Before I discuss how Director Hunt and CBP are dead wrong on this issue, it is important to acknowledge that CBD oil derived from marijuana is illegal under both federal and Texas state law. Traveling with it can, indeed, result in seizure of the product, fines, and even arrest. That being said, not all CBD oil is illegal. That being said, it is absolutely clear that hemp and hemp derived CBD are not controlled substances under federal law (which is what CBP enforces):

Section 297A(1) of the Agricultural Improvement Act of 2018 (2018 Farm Bill) states:

The term hemp means the plant Cannabis sativa L. and any part of that plant, including the seeds thereof and all derivatives, extracts, cannabinoids, isomers, acids, salts, and salts of isomers, whether growing or not, with a delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol concentration of not more than 0.3 percent on a dry weight basis.” (emphasis added)

Additionally, Section 12619(a)(2) of the 2018 Farm Bill expressly removed hemp from the definition of marijuana in the Controlled Substances Act (CSA). It states:

The term marihuana does not include— (i)hemp, as defined in section 297A of the Agricultural Marketing Act of 1946[.]”

And, Subsection (b) of the above-removed tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) from the CSA when it is derived from hemp and in concentrations that do not exceed 0.3%.

All of this is to say that the comments in the news articles I cited above are demonstrably false with respect to hemp-derived CBD oil. There is no gray area. They are simply untrue statements.

RELATED: Lawmaker Sells Legal Hemp On US Senate Floor

Texas law regarding hemp and CBD has a long and mixed history. (You can read a piece of that history here.) Mostly, CBD has been tolerated in Texas, even before passage of the 2018 Farm Bill. As I discuss in this article, passage of the 2018 Farm Bill arguably preempts (ie, overrides) conflicting Texas state law and prohibits a state from criminalizing it. However, even if Texas is authorized to criminalize possession of CBD, Texas is about to pass a hemp law which would decriminalize it under Texas state law. And, CBP does not enforce state law. It is a federal agency charged with enforcing federal laws.

All in all, this appears to be a short term “flare up” by a misguided or overzealous federal employee who is not familiar with the law. My best guess is that this policy will be updated quickly and that the official(s) responsible for it will be reprimanded. In the meantime, be cautious when traveling with hemp products.

Robert Downey Jr.’s Massive ‘Avengers’ Payday; Meghan & Harry Take Private Chopper To Frogmore Cottage

Robert Downey Jr.’s massive ‘Avengers’ payday will shock you

Via Fox News:

Robert Downey Jr. made his first Marvel movie in 2008 and since then has been raking in the cash.

And with the tremendous success of the final Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movie, “Avengers: Endgame,” Iron Man himself is on pace to make the biggest salary of his long career.

According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, the 54-year-old actor made around $75 million in for “Infinity War” because of a very unique financial arrangement he reportedly made with Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige.

Downey Jr. gets backend pay which means he gets a percentage of the film’s box office success after it’s released, according to THR. “Infinity War” made more than $2 billion worldwide and “Endgame” has already earned more than $1.2 billion in its first weekend, so it’s safe to say his final check will be massive.

The star also negotiated a staggering $5 million a day for three days of work on the 2017 blockbuster, “Spider-Man: Homecoming.”

Meghan & Harry Take Private Helicopter To Frogmore Cottage

Is Meghan Markle in labor?

The Duchess of Sussex and husband Prince Harry took a private helicopter to their new home this Tuesday, April 30, sparking rumors that they’re getting ready to welcome their royal baby!

Meghan, 37, had been under 24-hour care and security at Kensington Palace as she awaited the birth of her first child, but it seems baby Sussex will be born later than expected.

This morning, Meghan and Harry, 34, took the royals’ Sikorsky S76 C++ chopper to their new Frogmore Cottage pad on the grounds of Windsor Castle. Their hush-hush trip came days after Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, flew to London to help with the birth.

“The fact heavily-pregnant Meghan is being allowed to fly, even at low altitudes in a helicopter, suggests her due date is far later than people thought,” a source exclusively told RadarOnline.com.

The palace insider said the couple’s last-minute trip could also mean she’s chosen Frimley Park Hospital to give birth as it is the maternity facility closest to their cottage.

There has also been speculation the former Suits actress could have a home birth, but the palace insider said there is “no chance” the family will allow her to, as the “safety of the royal baby is paramount.”

It was reported this week that Sunday, April 28, was Meghan’s official due date, but there are also rumors she is not set to have her baby until May 17.

As Radar readers know, Meghan has recruited her own team of U.S. medics to aid her during labor after learning the hospitals nearest to her London homes have been hit by a shocking string of health scares. The mom-to-be has four units to choose from for her upcoming first birth – but all were slammed by British government inspectors.

The Mulberry Birth Centre in Frimley Park Hospital is the closest maternity ward to the Duke and Duchess’ home at Windsor Castle, but the maternity unit reported a lack of midwives.

Grace And Frankie Weed Positive Or Weed Shaming?

Sometimes when a new show comes out where cannabis is used loud and proud, we get too excited about the content to judge the message that it’s sending. Hulu and Netflix in particular have been allowing more weed on the screen, and it’s thrilling in some regards. But when portraying cannabis use, network love to show marijuana’s faults more than anything else. Is Grace and Frankie weed positive or weed shaming?

Programs like Grace and Frankie have been breaking the typical TV mold as of late. Not only do they highlight atypical themes and subject matter, they showcase demographics that never seem to get their due anymore.

RELATED: Fearing The Possible Loss Of Your Favorite ‘GOT’ Character? You’re Not Alone

When you watch them, you’re able to feel emotions and joy, humanizing your Netflix experience. It was cool and funny to see Frankie’s character, played by Lily Tomlin, always using cannabis and encouraging others to do so. Her and Grace, played by another actor,, frequently butt heads about various types of drugs, but her daughters are Frankie’s go-to cannabis buds.

Watching women, especially older women, partake so openly in cannabis is thrilling, but there’s a bit too much leaning on the stoner stereotypes. Put simply, Frankie’s ‘bohemian’ character is a little bit intense sometimes. When she shares a potent edible with the typically uptight Robert, he loses their rescue dog. Sure, it’s meant as a set up to turn the tables and demonstrate how ‘odd couple’ types can learn from each other.

On the first watch, this seems like a harmless mischief device, but when you consider it a little deeper, this is yet another crack on ‘stoners’ and forgetfulness. Though it’s completely true that getting too medicated can cause you to be forgetful, and even to hallucinate, it doesn’t always have to be what happens to the person trying cannabis in the hands of the seasoned user.

None of the various ways that cannabis came up in the show were patently offensive, but if you’re seeing a bunch of white people use weed on TV, the responsibility to treat the portrayal with a bit more reverence should be there. Constantly showing people who use cannabis with either intentional or accidental excess on screen really needs to shift if we’re going to make any real progress on the stigma that sticks up legalization.

Writers and producers need to care more about how weed is shown to larger audiences. Not every flash of a beer or wine bottle is foreboding, and the same should be true of cannabis. Even on a show like Gracie and Frankie, which appears weed positive on the surface, cannabis being on a laugh track or a panic scene is really getting old.

Plastic Surgeons Are Sculpting Belly Fat Into Abs

Plastic and cosmetic surgeries have been around since the early years of medicine, so you can’t be that surprised to learn that specialists have discovered a way to sculpt abs out of belly fat. It was only a matter of time.

Researchers from the University of Miami have developed this new method of plastic surgery called abdominal etching. According to the Journal of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, abdominal etching is similar to power-assisted liposuction, utilizing the same tools in order to sculpt the patient’s layers of abdominal fat and accentuate the natural muscle lines of the abdomen. Patients can specify the look of their abs, choosing ones with soft definition or ones that look chiseled. Hip lines can also be reduced and defined in the procedure.

RELATED: These Are The 5 Most Popular Cosmetic Surgeries

Despite all of this knowledge, the surgery is no miracle worker, and results work best when people lead active lifestyles. The original study was conducted on 50 patients who were in great shape, eating healthily and working out regularly. They agreed to have the surgery because they had pockets of fat that they had trouble getting rid of.

Surgeons explain that the post surgery process is long, involving the use of foam dressings for several weeks in order to preserve the abs and making regular visits to the doctor. Also, workouts need to be ongoing in order to maintain the surgery’s results.

We all know the difference between fat and muscle. The question is, are these abs poke-proof?

Prince William Made This Common Parenting Blunder

As Meghan Markle and Prince Harry expect the arrival of their first child any day now, a cautionary tale is making the rounds involving the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Royal, just like us, Prince William made this common parenting blunder.

Back in 2013, when Prince George was born, Kate Middleton and Prince William, proudly presented their newest bundle of joy to the public on the steps on the Lindo Wing, where he was born. Kate looked as fresh as ever, just hours after giving birth. And George was wrapped in a white blanket.

After the royal “show and tell” was over, William placed his newly born son into his car seat, still swaddled. And here lies the issue. Blankets can prohibit the buckles from properly doing their job.

RELATED: Is This Kate Middleton’s Way Of Hinting At Baby Number 4?

According to ChildCarSeats.co.uk states, the seat belt should be worn as tight as possible.

“It should be quite tight, so that only one or two fingers can fit between the child’s chest and harness.”

According to Express.co.uk, a police agency in the Grampian, Scotland used the royal car seat blunder as an opportunity to remind parents to use car seats properly:

“They may not be third in line to the throne, but you need to make sure that your little prince or princess is sitting in the correct seat when travelling in your carriage (or family car),” they wrote on Facebook.

For what it’s worth, Prince William made this common parenting blunder, but he and Kate learned proper car seat precautions with their second child, Princess Charlotte.

How To Save Money While Prepping Your Weed Stash

Anyone who smokes flower knows that reaching into a jar for random sized nuggets every time you want to roll a joint yields mixed consistency. It’s way harder than we think to guess the weight of any given bud. Flower is one of the best ways you can get medicated, but if you have a heavy habit, it can be pricey, especially if you like the premium stuff.

Preparing your stash like a food prepper is an incredible way to learn how to budget, enforce it, and to make sure you’re sticking to your rations and not just overbuying to compensate for some generous blunts you rolled while partying last Saturday.

It’s easier than you think to prepare your week’s (or day’s or month’s even!) portioning to keep your dosing even and your wallet happy.

Gathering supplies is crucial. Anyone in an urban area can grab their rolling supplies on mostcorners, but if you’re not near a vendor, purchasing can be dicey. Ordering online from a trusted retailer is a good plan, and ordering in bulk is an even better one, blunts to bones.

Once you have your papers, cones, tips, wraps, or whatever you’re using, you can begin the process, but first you have to do a little bit of math. Your starting stash controls everything, but its ok if it’s big or small as long as you plan ahead. No matter what you’re working with, decide how big you need your joints, blunts, or bowls to be.

RELATED: The Essential Guide To Smoke Proofing Your Apartment

Though many store bought pre-rolls run 1-1.5grams a pop, that’s pretty exorbitant for an at home joint that you aren’t sharing or at least nursing for a few hours. .75 grams is a decently large home roll, while .25 makes a perfect pinner.

Weigh and grind up your material, then use a tray paired with a clean cup or folded paper to facilitate le stuffing. If you’re smoking bowls, you can leave the nuggets more intact if you wish, put them in a pill organizer to dispense the perfect amount each time.

Twisting up is the easy part if you’re already a regular. Pop everything on a small scale (with the container tared!) to get a rough idea of what you’re putting in each joint. You don’t have to be exact unless you want to be, a few milligrams more in either direction won’t make as much of a difference. Depending on your style, you can pre measure each joint or prepare little piles, just be sure to avoid the urge to light up the first one off the assembly line if you want to get it done quickly.

RELATED: 4 Foods That Can Increase Your Cannabis High

Try making the joints progressively fatter as the journey continues for a bit or variety, or having the occasional double strength bone for party passing. Best of all, you can incorporate concentrates to up the ante on anything you want to share or supercharge.

Another fun tip: if you have a kief catcher, use some concentrate to stick a bit of kief onto anything that looks extra fat for a fun boost, you should have more than usual if you’re rolling everything in one go.

Marijuana A Conditional Bar To Obtaining US Citizenship

On April 19, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced that it would formally update its Policy Manual regarding how cannabis-related activity–even when it took place in states that have legalized the medical and recreational use of marijuana–would impact naturalization.

The Policy Manual is self-defined by the USCIS as its centralized online repository for immigration policies. It serves as a guide for immigration officers to follow when adjudicating applications and petitions.

RELATED: California or New York, Which Has The Biggest Marijuana Mess

immigration cannabis marijuanaProhibited cannabis-related activity, as we explained previously, includes possession, prior use, as well as employment or investment in cannabis industry, each of which is deemed a violation of the federal Controlled Substances Act (CSA). In all, it’s a very broad array of exclusionary activity.

Lifetime bans on Canadians have increased public awareness that foreign nationals can be deemed inadmissible and refused entry into the U.S. based on their involvement in cannabis-related activity. It is not well-known, however, that such prohibitions may also affect lawful permanent residents of the U.S. (i.e. green card holders). The USCIS’s announcement on Friday, clarifying that cannabis-related activity (including activity that is legal under state law) creates a conditional bar on one’s eligibility to naturalize, is aimed at clarifying this misconception.

Naturalization is the process by which a green card holder can become a U.S. citizen upon meeting five core requirements: (1) be a green card holder for the statutory period (at least five years at the time of filing the naturalization application, or at least three years if the green card holder has been married to the same U.S. citizen spouse during that entire time); (2) be physically present in the U.S. for at least half of the applicable statutory period; (3) be continuously domiciled in the U.S. during the applicable statutory period; (4) possess “good moral character” (GMC); and, (5) demonstrate a willingness to actively support the Constitution of the U.S.

Of those prerequisites, the focus of this post is the GMC requirement. In order to demonstrate GMC, the applicant must demonstrate a lack of involvement in a series of unlawful activities ranging from felonies to a failure to register for Selective Service.

Murder and other felonies result in a permanent bar to naturalization, meaning that the applicant will forever fail the GMC requirement regardless of how far back in the past the criminal conduct took place.

Apart from felonies, the Policy Manual, in Part F, Chapter 5, includes a laundry list of criminal activities that result in a conditional bar to citizenship, meaning that such conduct within the statutory period will prevent an applicant from naturalizing. Cannabis-related activity is among those crimes.

It is important to note that the Policy Manual specifies that an applicant may be conditionally-barred from establishing GMC not just because of “a conviction” for a cannabis-related offense, but also for:

  • An “admission” to having committed such an offense;
  • An “admission to committing acts that constitute the essential elements of a violation of any controlled substance law”;
  • A “conviction or admission that the applicant has been a trafficker in a controlled substance, or benefited financially from a spouse or parent’s trafficking”; and even
  • “Possession of controlled substance related paraphernalia”.

Somewhere, Jeff Sessions is smiling. Failure to establish GMC for any of the above could not only result in a denial of the naturalization application, but also jeopardize the applicant’s ability to preserve the green card, and result in removal from the U.S.

RELATED: How To Be Discreet When Using Weed

The recent update to the Policy Manual also spells out the conditional bar to GMC applies even where the offense may have taken place in a state that has laws permitting “medical” or “recreational” use of marijuana because of its classification as a ‘Schedule I’ drug under the CSA. The updated Policy Manual language is crystal clear:

“Such an offense under federal law may include, but is not limited to, possession, manufacture or production, or distribution or dispensing of marijuana. For example, possession of marijuana for recreational or medical purposes or employment in the marijuana industry may constitute conduct that violates federal controlled substance laws. Depending on the specific facts of the case, these activities, whether established by a conviction or an admission by the applicant, may preclude a finding of GMC for the applicant during the statutory period….Note that even if an applicant does not have a conviction or make a valid admission to a marijuana-related offense, he or she may be unable to meet the burden of proof to show that he or she has not committed such an offense.”

A conditional bar is difficult to overcome because it requires the applicant to show “extenuating circumstance” about why a particular unlawful act was committed. Such extenuating circumstances must have occurred before or at the time the unlawful act was committed. The Policy Manual explicitly instructs officers to disregard any evidence of an applicant’s subsequent reform, or to evaluate any positive factors about the applicant’s character when making a decision on a naturalization application.

With its April 19, 2019 Policy Manual update, the USCIS has shown its zealous commitment to interpreting marijuana use under the 1971 federal CSA in spite of the tide of marijuana legalization that has swept nearly half the states in our union. It’s unfortunate, but green card holders and other affected parties should be warned.
