Cannabis Cinnamon Buns For Bomb Breakfasts

Mix it up and add something fresh, relishing with an extra punch…here is the perfect marijuana breakfast recipe!

Cinnamon buns are too many something from a can or purchased at a mall kiosk, but the homemade buns are where it’s at. It’s a rich and puffy dough that gets brown and crispy but only in a delicate, bun-like fashion. The rest is all smushy doughy goodness. They’re fluffy and pull apart with no effort, like the best desserts. And, you can go all out with cannabis cinnamon buns for bomb breakfasts!.

This would be a good time to use fancy sugars, spices, and eggs and butter, since you’ll be tasting so much of that in the finished product. You also don’t have to use strictly cinnamon; adding other zippy spices to the mix like ginger, clove, and cardamom make things more interesting. Copious amounts of butter and sugar and now THC are all supporting roles for some of the best buns around.

Dough

  • ¼ cup half and half
  • ¾ cup warm water
  • 3 Tablespoons cannabutter*
  • 3 ½ cups flour
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Filling

  • ½ teaspoon cardamom
  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg

To create the dough, mix in a stand mixer or bread machine until you have a very wet looking blob. A bread machine will do the rising for you, but if you’re not taking that approach, dispense into a well oiled bowl and cover with oiled plastic wrap, allow to rise for at least an hour. It should triple in size and now be a giant fluffy cloud of goodness.

Photos by Maria Penaloza

Plop the dough on a floured surface and roll into a sheet. Spread room temperature butter over the sheet, then add all of your delicious spices and sugar.

Photos by Maria Penaloza

Roll this sheet into a log, then cut it with a sharp or serrated knife into about 15 slices. Arrange the slices in a square metal or glass baking dish that has been generously greased, then allow to rise again for 45 minutes to an hour.

Photos by Maria Penaloza

Preheat your oven to 375 degrees when you’re ⅔ of the way through the second rise.

Pop in your pan and bake for 15-20 minutes, keeping close watch.

Photos by Maria Penaloza

They will bake up rather quickly so if your oven runs hot drop the temp to 350 degrees. Cool on a wire rack for at least 10 minutes before digging in.

*Cannabutter

Decarboxylate 3.5g of finely ground cannabis at 225 degrees for 20 minutes in a tightly sealed, oven-safe container. Put cannabis in lidded mason jar or vacuum sealed bag with cannabis and one stick of butter. Heat in water bath just under boiling for at least 1 hour. Strain and chill to use in recipes.

Now for the fun part: spices like cinnamon and cardamom can actually help you get more high from a single dose of THC. The same flavors in those spices are the terpenes that make a cannabis strain have different effects, like myrcene. Play with the ratios and you can change the effects, but it’s all still going to taste like that yummy cinnamon that makes firm memories every time you fill up the house with their delightful presence. Try sealing some up individually and freezing, then you can have a single serving, medicated breakfast anytime!

Meghan Markle Will Shatter Another Tradition On Her Wedding Day

While giving a speech at your wedding is pretty traditional for us common folk, giving a speech at the royal wedding is not. It kind of breaks royal traditions.

According to The Independent, Meghan Markle wants to deliver a few words after her wedding takes place, if her father, who’s rumored to walk her down the isle, doesn’t speak for her. Her speech will include an “affectionate” tribute to the queen, Prince Harry, and all of their friends and family that are expected to be in attendance. The royal wedding is planned for May 19, 2018 at St. George’s Chapel, where they expect around 800 guests.

While it’s cool that Meghan is writing her own speech, and is set on doing things her own way, it’s stupid that speaking at your own wedding is something that goes against royal traditions.

Hopefully, Markle will help bring the Royal family a little closer to the 21st century and will also deliver a kick-ass speech in the meantime. Considering her work on Suits and the UN, we’re sure she’ll be amazing.

Gossip: Meghan Markle & Harry Will Replace Will & Kate At Commonwealth Meeting; Kylie Jenner Scared Of Giving Birth

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could be set to fill the shoes of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHGM). The week-long event, due to be attended by William and Kate, takes place in April, which will coincide with the time that the Duchess of Cambridge is due to give birth to her third child.

The engagement this year is regarded as a particularly crucial one, with around 52 heads of state flying in for what is expected to be the largest summit in the event’s 25-year history. With Brexit edging ever closer, it’s thought that the presence of the royals will help ease the UK into better trade talks with non-Brexit countries.

Meghan, 36, now has a string of royal engagements under her belt and this could prove the last major event before the couple wed on the 19th May in Windsor. The couple are already expected to attend the Commonwealth Day service on 12th March. The grand event, which includes formal dinners galore, is also a chance for the former Suits star to fully immerse herself in the Commonwealth, which remains a key talking point for the British monarchy. The CHGM was originally scheduled to take place in the South Pacific Ocean island of Vanuatu but cyclone pam saw it relocated to UK shores.

Already in attendance are the Queen and Prince Charles, who will host several events during the week. The Prime Minister has already expressed how vital the conference could be for the UK’s relations with the rest of the world.

Kylie Jenner Does NOT Think She Has Those Kourtney Kardashian Birthing Skills!

According to a source speaking to People, the makeup mogul and first-time mom is actually incredibly worried about the whole childbirth process — and is totally up for that epidural:

“She is nervous about the birth and anxious about pain. She wants to have an easy birth and is open to pain medicine.”

Florida’s Medical Marijuana Program Is On Fire: 71,000 Patients Strong

In June of last year, Florida had just under 17,000 medical cannabis patients. Now, as of last Friday, they’ve surpassed 71,000 with more growth projected. In fact, it’s looking like the Sunshine State may be making upwards of one billion dollars in sales by 2020. At least that’s what some investors are banking on.

Take iAnthus Capital and their deal for GrowHealthy Holdings; they are looking to open a dispensary in Palm Beach County by the third quarter of this year. CEO and Director of iAnthus Hadley Ford is the billion-dollar predictor, pointing to rapid patient growth in Florida.

GrowHealthy itself has a 200,000 square-foot grow and production space and though they don’t have any dispensaries yet, they do plan on opening up to 25.

Ford had this to say about Attorney General Jeff Sessions making noise to stop cannabis in its tracks, “By and large, any state that has a good regulatory scheme in place is going to be just fine.” It’s a bright slice of optimism from the head of the second holding company to make a large deal with Floridian cannabis businesses.

Last summer, Liberty Health Sciences of Toronto made a $40 million buyout with Chestnut Hill Tree Farm. And though they made the purchase before Jeff Sessions tried bringing the wrath, it was based on the same optimism that Florida’s cannabis market will one day be absolutely flourishing.

Most states that have legalized either medically or recreationally indeed have flourishing markets and now is nearly too late to be entering the marketplace if you haven’t already dipped in a toe or two. Cannabis is the fastest growing industry in the US and serious players have already stepped up to the plate.

Florida is long overdue for a good cannabis program. With licenses not be issued in a timely fashion last year and the originally small market, it may have been a long road, but now patient access is up, cannabis producers and dispensaries are up and Florida is on the right track to really drive its cannabis landscape through the roof.

Marijuana Could Help Protect Alcoholics From Liver Damage

Medical marijuana has been made legal in over half the country and patients are using the herb to combat various health conditions ranging from chronic pain to Alzheimer’s disease. But a new study shows that the almighty cannabis plant may also be beneficial in an area that does not receive much focus from the medical community: Preventing alcoholics from succumbing to liver damage.

It was revealed earlier this week in Liver International journal that habitual alcohol abusers that also consumed cannabis on a regular basis were less likely to suffer from liver disease than people who only drank.

To come to this conclusion, researchers examined 320,000 adult alcoholics. Ten percent of these patients reported smoking weed. It was in this group that researchers found healthier livers.

The findings show there is a distinct possibility that marijuana may protect regular drinkers from liver damage.

“Our study revealed that among alcohol users, individuals who additionally use cannabis (dependent and non-dependent cannabis use) showed significantly lower odds of developing alcoholic steatosis (AS), steatohepatitis (AH), cirrhosis (AC) and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC),” the study reads, according to BGR. “Further, dependent users had significantly lower odds than non-dependent users for developing liver disease.”

Although the study gives us some insight into the potential of marijuana reducing liver damage brought on by years of heavy drinking, it does not give us any indication as to the science behind the process. Similar studies have shown that marijuana’s anti-inflammatory properties may have the power to keep the liver healthy while distressed at the hands of an alcoholic. But more research is needed before we truly understand this phenomenon.

It is also possible that people who use cannabis in conjunction with booze are simply drinking less than those who consume only alcohol. Separate studies have shown this concept to be within the realm of possibility. If this is the case, then it is conceivable that patients only experienced less damage to the liver because their alcohol consumption was lower than the others. Again, more research is necessary to provide definitive results.

But healthier livers could start to become more prevalent as more states move to legalize the leaf. There is evidence that consumers would prefer to throw a large chunk of their drunken budget into legal weed if given the option. Already, alcohol sales in jurisdictions with taxed and regulated marijuana markets are slightly lower than in areas of prohibition. But we will just have to wait and see what kind of overall health impact the coexistence of these two intoxicating substances has on America.

Pennsylvania ACLU: ‘Marijuana Legalization Cannot Be Stopped’

The American Civil-Liberties Union is regarded as a majorly influential political organization in the nation. With local chapters in almost all 50 states, plus DC and Puerto Rico bureaus, the ACLU operates with an annual $100 million budget and is responsible for landmark social conversions in political thinking.

Now, the executive director of ACLU’s Pennsylvania chapter has come out swinging in favor of marijuana legislative reform. Reggie Shuford wrote an op-ed in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette this weekend, advocating on behalf of marijuana decriminalization and legalization. He also called out Attorney General Jeff Sessions, stating his anti-marijuana policies are merely fingers plugging up the dike, as the dam holding back marijuana reform is about to burst.

As Shuford writes, cannabis legalization cannot be stopped.

Via Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:

When U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions reversed the Obama administration’s Department of Justice guidance advising federal attorneys not to prosecute users and lawful sellers of marijuana in states that authorized medicinal or recreational use, he was releasing prohibition’s dying wail.

Support for legalization continues to grow. This month, the Pew Research Center released survey data showing 61 percent of Americans now support an end to prohibition. That’s a 4 percentage point increase from Pew’s 2016 poll.

[…]

Opposition to legalization is disappearing by the month.

Shuford went on to highlight important points about marijuana as a “safe, non-toxic alternative method of pain management” in the midst of our national opioid epidemic. He also refutes the conservative claim that marijuana can be a gateway drug into more harmful substance. As we also have written about, instead marijuana should be seen as a gateway drug out of opioid addiction.

In addition, Shuford highlights how the national War on Drugs disproportionately affects people of color. Echoing claims made by Angela Rye earlier this month, Shuford cites that in Pennsylvania in 2016 black people were 3.6 times more likely to be arrested for marijuana possession. In some counties, like Allegheny county, that statistic was even worse—African-Americans “were nearly seven times more likely to be arrested for marijuana possession in 2016 than white people,” writes Shuford.

Though Sessions and the Trump administration have instilled an air of uncertainty throughout the legalized cannabis industry, Shuford believes the genie is already out of the bottle.

“Mr. Sessions’ way of thinking is a relic of a bygone era,” he writes. “The states are ahead of him, and he and other politicians who think like him will be left behind.”

7 Reasons To Consume Marijuana Daily

Anyone who smokes marijuana daily probably already has their reasons. The more research that comes in, the more it makes sense to smoke weed every. single. day. If you find yourself needing an excuse to light up here are 7 reasons to consume marijuana daily. Here they are, in no particular order.

https://giphy.com/gifs/marijuana-W2M8YuyPG27de

1. It Can Give You A Healthier Liver

That is, if you’re addicted to alcohol. A recent study found that alcoholics who smoked weed everyday had healthier livers.

According to BGR:

A peer-reviewed paper accepted for publication in Liver International journal looked at inpatient discharge data for 320,000 adult patients with a history of alcohol abuse. When comparing the data, researchers found that the 10% of alcoholics who also used weed exhibited a lower rate of liver disease of any kind. Alcoholics who were habitual users exhibited an even lower incidence of liver disease than occasional users, strongly suggesting that yes, weed can help prevent liver damage from drinking.

2. It Can Help Your Brain

The chemical compounds inherent in cannabis, THC and CBD, help protect our brains. This is particularly true in relation to brain injury.

But, according to The Fresh Toast‘s Trey Reckling:

It’s not just about traumatic brain injury. The reputable Salk Institute has contributed to a growing body of research that shows that low doses of THC reduce the plaque forming proteins associated with Alzheimer’s Disease. It effectively reduces inflammation and helps prevent neural cell death, preserving the brain’s ability to be “plastic.”

In addition to holding promise for people suffering from traumatic brain injury and early onset dementia, this function of cannabis is also of great interest to people with post traumatic stress disorder, PTSD. Cannabis is believed to be effective for people with PTSD because neuroplasticity helps their brain to ‘forget’ the trauma more than before and allows the brain to rewire connections of learned fear, reducing hyper vigilancenightmares and night terrors.

3. It Can Treat Migraines

A study from the University of Colorado, published in the January issue of Parmacotherapy, showed that the frequency of migraines in patients who used cannabis dropped from 10.4 per month to 4.6—a number that’s both statistically and clinically significant.

According to TFT‘s Richard Faulk, “Secondary findings showed that different cannabis delivery routes had different strengths: Smoked marijuana, which hits the bloodstream almost instantly, was best for treating acute migraines. On the other hand, edibles, which take much longer to metabolize, helped prevent headaches.”

4. It Can Aid In Weight Loss

Cannabis helps the body regulate insulin production more efficiently. The TFT‘s cannabis editor, Al Olson, credits marijuana with helping him shed 50 pounds in 2016.

Says Olson:

Essentially what may be happening is this: Marijuana will generally promote appetite and binge eating when first using marijuana. Eventually, it has the opposite effect and the cannabinoid receptors in your brain become desensitized or trained.

He says while marijuana assists in weight loss, it’s not going to help you lose weight on its own. “You seriously need to adopt a healthier lifestyle and be mindful of what you are putting in your body.”

5. Weed Helps Promote Creativity

People credit smoking weed with getting their creative juices flowing, and it’s not just talk. According to TFT’s Al Olson, the link between marijuana and creativity is legit. He points to a 2010 study that showed THC’s ability to increase “hyper-priming.”

Put simply, hyper-priming is what occurs when your brain makes a connection between two items that are seemingly unrelated. When under the influence of THC, most people are capable of making these connections faster than those not under the influence. In other words, cannabis produces psychotomimetic symptoms, which leads to connecting disparate concepts, the type of divergent thinking that is considered primary to creative thinking.

6. It Will Help You Sleep

Marijuana has been proven time and again as a sleep aid. But how does it work, exactly? As TFT‘s Al Olson reports, as more and more states move to legalize cannabis, more of us are looking at the herb as an alternative to pharmaceuticals. Studies have shown that cannabis can improve the duration and quality of sleep. A 1973 study suggests that THC reduces the amount of time it takes those with insomnia to fall asleep. Another study found that those that regularly used THC fell asleep faster.

Here are a few things you should know before lighting up your bong.

 7. Lighting Up Can Lower Your Risk Of Diabetes

study from SUNY Buffalo, shows that adult marijuana users in the US consume on average more soda, more alcohol—particularly beer—more salt, pork, cheese, and salty snacks, and they eat less fruit than nonusers. And yet, they are skinnier.

Says TFT‘s Richard Faulk:

For those of us who try to lead a healthy lifestyle, eat well, and limit the amount of substances we abuse, the cruel fact seems to be that habitual marijuana users take in more calories and yet are less inclined toward obesity and diabetes. Of course, this was not a controlled study, so the pot might be a deceptive correlation. Maybe some overlooked factor is actually key—like maybe all the cannabis users also do yoga or bike to work or have tapeworms.

Medical Marijuana And Liver Disease: What Science Says Is Possible

Liver disease occurs when the liver experiences a high amount of tissue scarring. This is typically a direct result of constant inflammation and the death of vital cells. This disease inflicts more than 400,000 people each year and is ranked among the top 10 leading causes of death in the U.S.

However, for a disease with such an ugly outcome, a pretty solution may be in the near future.

In 2005 researchers at the Hebrew University Medical School concluded that our body’s own internal cannabinoid system (the endocannabinoid system) has receptors that bind with cannabis’ most active ingredient, THC. This very system regulates not only the nervous system, but the immune system as well.

Therefore, researchers concluded that cannabis may possibly be able to help people suffering from certain forms of liver disease because of our preexisting cannabinoid system.

While this study showed a possible connection between liver disease and cannabinoids, more research was needed.

Following the 2005 study’s conclusions, a 2011 study published in the journal of Cell Death and Disease used mouse models to determine that cannabidiol or CBD (cannabis’ non-intoxicating ingredient) causes infected liver cells to participate in apoptosis, also known as cell suicide.

They concluded their research noting that CBD may have “great therapeutic potential.” Even better, controlled doses of CBD do not affect healthy or non-malignant cells. So it can attack the bad cells and shy away from the good ones.

But if cannabis has positive effects on liver disease cam it also have negative effects? According to science, not particularly.

Cannabis consumption does not increase or accelerate the progression of liver disease. In a 2013 study, researchers studied 690 liver disease patients – specifically patients with HIV and Hepatitis C infections.

At the start of the experiment, 53 percent of the subjects had smoked cannabis in the last six months, consuming an average of seven joints per week. 40 percent of the subjects smoked daily.

Researchers concluded that “There was no evidence that marijuana smoking accelerates progression to significant liver fibrosis.”

So, no, smoking cannabis won’t worsen liver disease, if anything, the last 12 years of research prove it could help.

The Latest iPhone OS Update Will Not Fix Your Slow Phone

0

The last thing Apple needed in the midst of all the controversy surrounding them would be a faulty OS upgrade, which is exactly what they’ve done.

According to Forbes, the recent OS update doesn’t improve on the phone’s faulty features – which is what an OS update should do – instead, it produces a wide range of bugs that are extremely annoying and that affect all areas of the software. Users of the device have reported all sorts of issues on the Apple Support forums, including ones that affect the iPhone X.

The most common bugs found in the update are lock screen issues, some cases where the device has trouble booting up, camera crashes, performance drops, pairing issues with the Apple Watch, etc. The list is endless. Oh, and poor battery life. Because that’s the main problem that Apple’s never been able to solve or figure out.

There’s still hope though. Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, recently spoke out about the iPhone’s battery, which will be fixed with their new iOS 11.3. According to Cook, this update will be the biggest change in terms of software, and it’ll be something that the company’s never done before.

Via ABC News:

“We’re going to give people the visibility of the health of their battery. So it’s very, very transparent…[We] will tell someone we’re reducing your performance by some amount in order to not have an unexpected restart. And if you don’t want it, you can turn it off.”

Very mysterious, but we’re excited.

Alligator And Python Fight To The Death In Florida

Clash of the Titan – Alligator vs Python on a golf course

An alligator and a Burmese python were locked in a deathly fight in the middle of a golf course in Naples, Florida. Because it’s Florida. It wasn’t long before people, instead of running for their lives like anyone in their sane minds would, started to pick sides and take pictures.

RELATED: Great Fall Whiskeys

One of the witnesses of the fight uploaded a few pictures on Facebook, claiming that it was a wild day at the golf course, and that the alligator seemed to have the upper hand.

RELATED: Yacht Rock Pairs Perfectly With Cocktails

Other sources agree that, indeed, the alligator had the upper hand and that he was as cool as a cucumber.

Via WESH:

“The python’s head was inside the mouth of the alligator and the alligator was just sitting there absolutely still with his eyes wide open…”

Sstate wildlife authorities claimed they were “team alligator” only because Burmese pythons weren’t part of Florida’s ecosystem, and that their presence could harm it. “We are encouraged by the prospect of a native Florida alligator consuming an invasive Burmese python,” said Brian Norris, representative of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC).

Burmese pythons are not native to Florida and negatively impact native species. They are found primarily in and around the Everglades ecosystem in south Florida, where they prey on birds, mammals and other reptiles. A female Burmese python can lay 50 to 100 eggs at a time. Since 2000, more than 22,000 wild Burmese pythons have been removed from the state of Florida and reported to the FWC.

Probably the worst possible scenario to brag about Floridian strength.
