Did UFOs Make The FBI Almost Cancel The X-Files

Aliens and UFO’s are all in the news. The government is opening up files and, in theory, releasing information about unidentified anomalous phenomena(UAP). Did UFOs make the FBI almost cancel the X-Files?  Military officials shared they believe the government knows much more about UFOs than it is telling the public.

A House Oversight subcommittee held a hearing on UFOs — officially known as unidentified aerial phenomena or UAPs — and heard mystifying testimony about unexplained object sightings and government possession of “nonhuman” biological matter.

Lawmakers on the committee, baffled by some of the testimony, repeatedly noted that UAP sightings are an issue of bipartisan concern and raise national security questions. Separately, some accused the federal government of endeavoring to conceal key UFO-related information from the public, though they did not provide evidence to support those allegations.

Now back to the fictional FBI agents Mulder and Scully. They faced mutants, aliens, and all matter of paranormal scary things on a weekly basis on The X-Files. The show was a huge hit for Fox network, one that’s still ongoing, even though the series had a 14-year break.

While this cult show is considered science fiction, show runner and creator Chris Carter explained that during 1993, when the show was about to air, the FBI was truly concerned over their content, and gave him a very weird and paranoid phone call.

Via The Huffington Post:

“I can tell you this: When I wrote the [1993] pilot, I called the FBI to do some research, and they were nice enough, but didn’t really give me the time of day. Then, all of a sudden, as we got close to airing, the FBI called and said, ‘Who are you and what are you doing?’ And for a second, I thought it was going to be the long arm of the law coming in to shut me down.”

Carter explained that after that phone call he became kind of close to the feds, who were known as the unofficial fans of The “X-Files.” When it comes to his experience with the supernatural, Carter claims that even though he’s never seen a UFO or had an alien visitation, he still wants to believe. Very cute, but are aliens real or not? Just tell us.

Hacks To Ripen Avocados Naturally And Quickly

It’s easy to rush and buy the first avocado you see at your local grocery store. While they’re not considered a rare item by any means, they are particular and require the right amount of knowledge and patience for you to use them properly. Avocados have a small window (like, a couple of days) where they quickly pass from unpalatable, to delicious, to awful…and it’s important to be aware of it before you buy or eat them. Here are hacks to ripen avocados naturally and quickly.

Super Food Profiles believes that instead of buying soft avocados you should buy those that are a little hard, keeping them at home while you wait for them to be just right. You never know how long the soft and perfect looking avocados have been at your grocery store, handled by dozens of people who inadvertently ruin their pulps every time they squeeze them.

There are many ways for speeding up the ripening process of avocados, but the best way is to have some patience. Still, for those occasions when you need to have an avocado ASAP, check out the following ripening methods.

Paper bag

https://giphy.com/gifs/arrested-development-jason-bateman-disappointed-yQbzE3pbJhcSk

The easiest way to jump start the ripening process is by placing your avocado inside a brown paper bag. This method will trap the ethylene gas that the fruit is emitting and accelerate the ripening process. You’ll see some progress after 24 hours.

You can also try placing another fruit inside the bag – the most commonly used ones are an apple or a banana – to accelerate the process even further since they also produce ethylene gas. You’ll still need to have some patience since only circumstantial evidence suggests that putting fruits together will accelerate the ripening process.

Allow them to get some sunlight

https://giphy.com/gifs/commercial-ad-super-bowl-d3mnexemmaCiMn9m

By this same reasoning, a slower yet more natural way of speeding up the ripening process of your avocado is to place it in a fruit bowl next to other fruit, in a spot where it receives some indirect sunlight. If you have several avocados and want to eat them every day of the week, you can stagger them closer or further from the other fruit depending on when you want them to be ready. The closer they are to other fruit the faster they’ll ripen.

What to do if you cut into an avocado and it’s unripe

https://giphy.com/gifs/ufc-episode-1-8BlEH938VAzBkubRTh

If you cut open an avocado and discover that it’s still hard and not ready to eat, add a dash of lemon to it. Afterwards, put both halves of the avocado together with the seed inside and place it in a sealed plastic container with a banana or an apple inside. The next day, you might find a wild animal there, or it might work and your avocado will be ripe. If you want to be safe, it’s best to use the unripe avocado in a recipe that doesn’t demand a lot of texture and flavor from the fruit.

Never use microwave or oven

https://giphy.com/gifs/election2016-gop-rnc-election-2016-l0MYFacIZsZTaYx9K

Some avocado enthusiasts believe that placing an avocado in the oven or in the microwave will speed up the ripening process, but this is not true. You might get burned and end up eating a tasteless lump of green. There’s no magical way of tricking nature, and avocados will be ready on their own time.

Does Harry Styles Smoke Weed?

The former boy bander has experimented with psychedelics. But does he smoke weed?

Harry Styles, former One Direction band member, Vogue model and  Calm App narrator, has managed to pave his own way over the last couple of years. After the band’s split, Styles took the opportunity to make music that was different from his previous work and that made him stand out as a talented singer and performer. But does Harry Styles smoke weed?

Being in a boy band is much like being a Disney star. These people have to keep track of their public behaviors, at least until their contracts are over.

In a recent interview with Howard Stern, Styles discussed a strange encounter that somehow involved weed when some guys tried to rob him. “I cross the street and they cross the street, and I think, ‘For f—’s sake, I’m going to get robbed,’” he said. “The guys are like, ‘Can we talk to you for a minute?’ There’s nobody around and my heart’s pounding. He’s like, ‘Do you smoke weed? Do you want weed?” Styles explained that he told them no and that he managed to run away from them after giving the men his money.

When discussing his experience with One Direction, Styles explained that he didn’t want to be the one who ruined things and misbehave. “When I was in the band, it was like, to me, it felt like it was so much bigger than any of us that I kind of felt like, ‘I’m not going to be the one who f–ks it up,’” he said.

Then, when speaking about making his solo record, he said: “I was with my friends and we were in Malibu … I felt so safe. It was like, ‘I want to take some mushrooms? I’m going to take some — like now is the time to have fun.”

While there’s no direct mention of Styles smoking weed, if he’s tried mushrooms then it’s very likely he’s also tried a joint. We’re marking him down as a yes.

Alcohol Helping The Marijuana Industry!

Have cannabis leaders, working hard on federal legalization, found a powerful ally?  Is alcohol helping marijuana industry?  On March 22, 2023, the Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America (WSWA) sent a letter to Congress stating that “[t]he time has come for Congress to legalize and regulate adult-use cannabis at the federal level” and that the inconsistency between federal and state cannabis policy “undermine[s] the rule of law and weakens public health and safety, while leaving states unsupported in their efforts to create safe, regulated markets and eliminate dangerous black-market activity.”   Support for cannabis legalization on Capitol Hill has been lacking from mainstream, non-cannabis organizations. So this move by the WSWA is a welcome step, but it also begs the question: is the WSWA’s support for cannabis legalization too good to be true?

The alcohol lobby may view cannabis as the next big growth engine for its business.  Alcohol consumption has been declining in recent years as U.S. consumers are becoming increasingly health conscious.  Couple that with the cannabis industry’s expected growth, and you can see why alcohol companies may suddenly be so keen on federal cannabis legalization. In recent years, there has been a significant increase in the number of alcohol companies entering the cannabis market through investments and THC-infused beverages. And on August 7, 2023, Canadian-based cannabis company Tilray Brands announced its acquisition of eight beer and beverage brands from Anheuser-Busch.

And on August 7, 2023, Canadian-based cannabis company Tilray Brands announced its acquisition of eight beer and beverage brands from Anheuser-Busch. The entry of alcohol companies into the cannabis industry, however, presents a number of significant questions. In a potential sign of things to come, the WSWA notes that “the current federal system for the regulation of alcohol serves as a strong model for the structure that should be enacted for cannabis” and federal legalization should be “accompanied by the creation of a robust regulatory structure that licenses producers, testing facilities, and distributors.”  But should the same conglomerates that control the alcohol industry be permitted to dominate the cannabis beverage industry?

The alcohol industry is known for its high degree of consolidation, with a few large companies dominating the market. So, how would a federal legal cannabis industry modeled after the “federal system for the regulation of alcohol services” work?  At a minimum, a shift towards a regulatory structure that more closely resembles the alcohol industry would change the paradigm for a cannabis industry that has developed in a decentralized manner (out of necessity) over the past several decades. The support of an industry group with influence on Capitol Hill may be a welcome development for a cannabis industry eager for relief from federal laws and regulations that are stifling its growth.  So the cannabis industry may not want to look a gift horse in the mouth.  But operators may also be wary of a trojan horse outside their gates. A Beginner’s Guide To Meditating With Marijuana

You need to be careful not to become so dependent on cannabis as a means of relaxation that you can’t mediate without having consumed cannabis first.

Cannabis can be a great accompaniment for any kind of meditation, as really all that involves is presence. Following are some reflections about how to add cannabis by Tara Rose, host of the Green Goddess podcast, which explores sacred medicine, evolution of consciousness, and philosophy. Here is a beginners guide to meditating with marijuana.

In her estimation, there’s a world of difference between getting stoned and working with cannabis in an intentional way. When we are just getting stoned, we are using the plant without care or intention — perhaps even using it to try and escape ourselves. To use cannabis with intention is the opposite. We choose to bring greater consciousness and awareness through communing with the herb. We allow her to amplify our subconscious mind and suppressed emotions so that we can learn more about ourselves, embrace them and integrate them.

RELATED: Using Marijuana For Better, More Relaxing Meditation Sessions

She suggests starting out by simply giving thanks before using the plant and to use it with care. It’s a good practice to make sure that you’re grounded and have eaten beforehand, because it can be very activating to the crown chakra and overstimulating and ungrounding if used too often (or by someone who isn’t balanced). The idea is to create more harmony in our being instead of causing disharmony. The trope of the spacey forgetful stoner is basically just a super ungrounded individual.

Rose cautions that you need to be careful not to allow yourself to become so dependent on cannabis as a means of relaxation that you cannot mediate without having consumed it first. As cannabis can be so stimulating to the crown and third eye, it is important not to become dependent upon it for spirituality because the plant is a teacher and a way shower but we are meant to integrate these teachings.

RELATED: How Cannabis Can Help You Take Your Meditation Practice To The Next Level

For many, the ritual of smoking cannabis can add to the overall experience. Others find that an edible can provide an all over body sensation conductive to meditating. Often a hybrid 1:1 strain can provide that sweet spot were one can be in a state of relaxation but remain alert enough to savor the meditative experience without going to sleep. Continue to experiment with different strains and delivery methods until find the right combination that works for one’s individual meditative experience.

The Effects Of Smoking Low-THC, High-CBD Cannabis

For decades, growers have been focused on producing cannabis strains with the highest THC content possible to have a maximum high. High-THC means you’re getting baked, whether sativa, indica or a mix of the two. Now, however, we know CBD can be therapeutic, healing parts of the plant and growers are focusing on high-CBD cannabis that places THC in the backseat.  What are the effects of smoking low-THC, high-CBD cannabis? And what are the benefits?

While CBD doesn’t get the patient high, it does provide a sense of well being and calm. CBD from hemp is legal across the US, while CBD from cannabis is only legal in states that allow for medical and recreational usage. What about a combination?

Related: 8 Things Everyone Gets Wrong About Marijuana’s CBD

For one thing, there will be a change in mood, just not a drastic one that either has you talking a mile a minute or locked to the couch. The feeling is cerebral and one of well being. The low-THC cannabis makes you feel comfortable in your own skin and has the healing benefits of whole plant medication.

Data shows CBD can help you quit smoking cigarettes, manage your diabetes, acne, Crohn’s, fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, insomnia and more. But there must be more research to better understand the benefits and how combination can enhance medical treatments.

So consuming low-THC, high-CBD bud is a little like smoking with the three bears. The high THC strain gets you really high, while the hemp CBD strain doesn’t get you high at all. The strain that has a little THC and a lot of CBD? It’s just right to have you feeling on cloud nine without altering your state to an extreme.

And beyond being “better than nothing,” the high you get added to the relief you feel equal an experience that leaves a lasting impression and will likely have you going back to the bong. It’s nearly impossible to get “too high” on low-THC cannabis, but you are able to find the bliss level.

So as growers expand their lines to include these new forms of medicinal marijuana, they are bound to continue improving upon the genetics, coaxing all the more CBD out and finding the most beneficial cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids to create the finest low-THC, high-CBD cannabis out there. Craft cannabis is definitely the new name of the game and this cannabinoid combo fits right in.

Beer Lingo, A Guide To Becoming A Better Patron

Bars are wondrous places full of beer, chatter, celebration, ways to get drunk and opportunities to meet friends. But they are also tricky. As with most niche scenes, there is lingo you need to know, terms you should memorize and slang with which you should show facility. What’s Imperial mean? How do you pronounce “weisse?” And how much should I tip my bartender? Hang on, because you’re about to find out the answers to all of these. Here is your beer lingo, a guide to becoming a better patron. BTW, the Slavic word ‘beer’ came from the verb ‘to drink’. Initially, beer was any kind of drink.

Hops

Hoppy

The thing snobby people refer to about beer, and what people who hardly ever drink beer say they don’t like. Hoppy is often used as a synonym for the word ‘bitter,’ but there are plenty of beers that use loads of hops and don’t taste the least bit bitter.

Ale is brewed using a warm fermentation method, resulting in a sweet, full-bodied and fruity taste. It is a maltier, top-fermented beer.

Lager

A beer that is effervescent and light in color and body. it is a dry, bottom-fermented drink.

IPA

Stands for India Pale Ale because it was originally brewed in the United Kingdom and shipped to British soldiers in India during colonization (which is still basically happening). It is made with more hops, to give it a stronger flavor. There’s no standardised threshold at which a pale ale becomes an IPA, though.

Cask-Conditioned

The process in which a draught beer retains yeast to enable a secondary fermentation to take place in a cask in the pub cellar. Cask conditioned beer is the traditional drink of the British pub, and served properly, it can be among the most subtle and beguiling of beer types.

Fresh Hop

Beer made with recently picked hops that haven’t been dried. It provides distinctively grassy, plant-like, and “green” flavor profiles without the bitterness associated with IPAs and other beers featuring copious dried hops.

Weisse

Pronounced ‘Vice’ is the counterpart in German for “white,” most commonly used in reference to the sour Berliner type of beer, but also sometimes to the Bavarian type, as in weissbier. Weizen is the German word for “wheat,” most often applied to the Bavarian wheat beer style.

Microbrew

Compared to macrobreweries, which produce millions of barrels per year, microbreweries produce a relatively small amount of beer—between 1,000 to no more than 15,000 barrels annually. But aside from their size, what makes microbreweries special is that they’re known for brewing specialty beers.

Marijuana Cannabinoids And Kidney Disease

Although there are different diseases and medical conditions that take people’s lives, in the US kidney disease is the ninth leading cause of death. It’s also estimated that 31 million Americans (10 percent of the US adult population) are diagnosed with chronic kidney disease (CKD). The proper functioning of our organs is essential, especially our kidneys. One of the main symptoms of chronic and non-chronic kidney disease includes long-lasting pain, which can lead into other painful symptoms. Currently, many physicians prescribe opioids to patients to help them manage their pain. However, opioids and other pharmaceutical drugs have been proven harmful and addictive. Fortunately, though, cannabis and derivatives of it can provide relief to people with kidney disease, especially chronic pain associated with the disease. Here is information about marijuana’s cannabinoids and kidney disease which might prove useful.

Purpose Of The Kidneys & Possible Causes Of Kidney Disease

For those who don’t know, the main purpose of our kidneys is to clean our blood through the removal of excess fluid, minerals, and waste. Our kidneys also help keep the body clean and free from toxic compounds including byproducts accumulated from chemical consumption, digestion, and even muscle activity. Additionally, the kidneys are responsible for maintaining the correct amount of potassium, sodium, salt, phosphorous, and minerals within our bloodstream.

Regarding possible causes of kidney disease, it’s important to know the different types of this disease. For example, the different types of kidney disease/malfunction are categorized as chronic kidney disease (CKD), acute kidney injury, and acute renal failure (ARF). In most cases, CKD can be caused by immune system conditions such as HIV/AIDS, Lupus, Hepatitis B, and Hepatitis C. Other possible causes for kidney disease include injuries, different medications, or genetic issues.

Also, if an individual has been diagnosed with diabetes, high blood pressure, or one of their relatives has kidney disease, that individual is at a greater risk of being diagnosed with kidney disease.

Current Kidney Disease Treatments

To determine if someone has kidney disease or poor kidney function, a physician can administer different tests to find out what’s going on. Once someone is diagnosed with kidney disease, it’s common to experience chronic pain alongside other physical and emotional symptoms. Many physicians prescribe painkillers like opioids to their patients as a form of pain management. However, opioids can cause and/or intensify additional adverse effects of the disease including nausea, insomnia, anorexia, and pruritis. These adverse effects can negatively impact a patients’ quality of life and overall well-being. Depending on the severity of the disease though, some patients undergo dialysis or a kidney transplant.

Alternative Kidney Disease Treatments (Cannabis)

Aside from the treatments briefly mentioned, many patients seek out alternative forms of treatment like cannabis. Recent research has been done on cannabinoids, which has helped legitimate the usage of cannabis-based medicine. According to the National Institute of Health findings, CB1 and CB2 receptors are found in numerous tissues within the body including the kidneys. Although cannabis and different cannabinoids can relieve many kidney disease symptoms, it doesn’t cure the disease completely.

Regardless, cannabinoids have demonstrated their effectiveness in helping treat symptoms associated with kidney disease including anorexia/cachexia, insomnia, anxiety, depression, and pruritis. Chronic pain is another common symptom associated with kidney disease, which can be treated with THC. It has been found that THC acts as an analgesic in addition to containing anti-emetic, anti-nausea, appetite stimulating, and muscle relaxant properties. Additionally, several clinical studies have discovered that sleep quality significantly improved in patients who consumed cannabinoids to treat chronic pain and intractable pruritis.

Medical Benefits Of Cannabis In Treating Kidney Disease

Furthermore, cannabis and derivatives of it could prevent kidney damage while also relieving pain and other distressing symptoms. Whereas, many non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs can result in harmful chemicals entering the bloodstream. As a result, the kidneys are put under significant pressure. Numerous non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs including Ibuprofen, Advil, Motrin, Aspirin, and Aleve contain a high amount of substances that are toxic to the kidneys. On the other hand, cannabis has very few side effects on our organs. There’s also no risk of a cannabis overdose resulting in harming or damaging our organs.

Overall, small improvements in kidney disease symptoms through the usage of THC and CBD could be clinically beneficial for patients who experience hard-to-treat symptoms. So far though, cannabis-based medicine for kidney disease, and specifically, CKD is being considered.

Although cannabis doesn’t cure kidney disease, it can effectively alleviate many symptoms associated with it. As a result, a quality of life improvement can occur, which can lead to a life with more enjoyment and less pain. At the end of the day, isn’t that what we all want?

Why Royals Do Swan Upping

If you had to guess what “Swan Upping” meant, what would you say? Go ahead, Take a gander. Here’s a hint: it has nothing to do with one-upping a swan, because let’s be honest, swans will always win whatever game you’ve got going on.

Give up? Swan Upping is basically the royal version of census taking. And it’s all the royal Rage. Originally the swans would be part of a feast, but the meat has fallen from favor and they are released to enjoy their freedom.

RELATED: Weed And The Royal Family

The British Crown enjoys ownership of all unmarked mute swans in open water. Rights over swans may, however, be granted to a British subject by the Crown (accordingly they may also be claimed by prescription). Until the 16th century, the ownership of swans in a given body of water was commonly granted to landowners. The tradition of swan upping on the Thames began in the 12th century.

The royal website has more information about the activity.

Only two companies still have swan marks: Vintners’ Livery Company and Dyers’ Livery Company.

Swan Upping is now less about census taking and more about waterfowl education and conservation. The swans are weighed and checked for any signs of injury and illness.
