The Duchess of Cambridge used a secret door to sneak into a pub and drink with her fellow school mums; Miley Cyrus is being super adult once again by unfollowing her exes on Instagram.

Kate Middleton Snuck Into London Pub For A Girls Night Out

Via iHeart Radio:

Kate Middleton’s not a regular mom, she’s a cool mom. And, well, she’s a royal mom, so, that can make things complicated when she wants to have a girls night out. Luckily, though, Kate has a few tricks up her sleeve that lets her meet up with other moms from Prince George and Princess Charlotte’s school without being hounded by paparazzi. In fact, Kate was able to sneak into a London pub just last month without being spotted. Here’s how the Duchess of Cambridge managed it.

According to the Daily Mail, Kate was able to attend a meet-and-greet for parents of students at Thomas’s Battersea, which is where George and Charlotte attend school. The night out was held at the Hollywood Arms pub in Chelsea. The pub is reportedly a popular spot, however, Kate managed to sneak in thanks to a secret door in the back.

So, how did Kate know about this secret door? It turns out the door was reportedly installed for Prince Harry during his early twenties. The door allowed Harry to sneak in and out to hang out with his friends without causing a fuss. Though not confirmed, it’s believed that a few popular London pubs had these secret doors installed for Harry back in the day.

While Kate did get to enjoy a night out with her fellow school moms, she did have a personal protection officer in tow. She may be a cool mom, but royals still need to have their PPOs on hand even for a girls night out.

Miley Cyrus Unfollows Exes Liam Hemsworth & Kaitlynn Carter On Instagram

Via iHeart Radio:

Miley Cyrus is wiping her slate clean of her past.

The “Malibu” musician seems to have made the decision as early as Tuesday morning (November 5), ditching exes Liam Hemsworth and Kaitlynn Carter on the list of those she follows on Instagram. Some additional sleuthing on our part also confirmed Hemworth has done the same, whereas Carter remains one of the singer’s 101 million followers. (Receipts down below.)

Apart from dating Cyrus, it should be noted that both Hemsworth and Carter have something else in common. They’ve both endured respective breakups this year.

After their 10-year relationship lead to their long-awaited (albeit low-key) wedding in December 2018, the former Disney Channel star called it quits with the Hunger Games actor this past August. The relationship ended in light of images surfacing of Carter and Cyrus locking lips on their getaway to Italy around the same time. Hemsworth filed for divorce weeks later.

From there, Cyrus moved on with Carter, who had just freshly ended her marriage to Brody Jenner weeks prior to the vocalist’s separation announcement. Sadly, after a whirlwind relationship of sorts, the duo officially broke up in September. It’s was never revealed why, but guessing from the Hills: New Beginnings star’s recent essay for Elle — in which alludes her love for Cyrus — there doesn’t appear to be any bad blood between them.

Even after going through double-breakups, the 26-year-old is still testing the waters of the dating pool. As yet, she’s been romantically linked to Australian crooner Cody Simpson since last month.

5 Ways To Overcome The Winter Blues This Year

The winter season affects some people more than others, making them more likely to stay indoors and avoid contact with loved ones.

Although it’s not yet winter, the weather is changing rapidly. Daylight savings is already in motion, meaning that, for a lot of people, days are now drastically shorter. Night owls might be into this, but others find this change hard to adapt.

Winter blues, otherwise known as seasonal affective disorder (SAD), is a condition that’s triggered by the changing winter months, affecting around 10 million Americans. The fact that there’s less daylight disturbs people’s circadian rhythms, disrupting their hormone production and making them feel tired, unmotivated and sometimes depressed. Even if you’re not as affected by the weather as people who suffer from SAD, it’s likely that you have to work harder than usual during this time of the year to remain active and positive.

Here are 5 things you can do to stay healthier during the winter.

Try to have fun with the weather

If you hate the cold, it’s hard for you to see the novelty of the snow or the fun in wearing cute winter outfits. Still, a small change in perception can help you feel better, making this time of the year feel shorter and brighter. Learn about activities you can do in the winter, and spend some money on weather appropriate gear. Even if you don’t want to leave your house, make yourself go out and walk around, keeping your body moving and surrounding yourself with nature.

Make book and movie lists

The cold weather means that you’ll be spending more time than usual indoors. Take advantage of this by compiling lists of movies and books you want to indulge in. Not only does it distract you from thinking about how miserable you are, you’ll feel productive afterwards. If you’re sad, there’s nothing better than a distraction, even if it only lasts for a couple of hours.

Start a project

Just like list-making, projects such as writing, organizing your house, or taking artsy photos of your pets are all valid ways of distracting yourself and feeling productive. This can be anything, just as long as it makes you feel accomplished and energized.

Consume the right foods

According to Healthline, certain foods can improve your moods and give your system a boost, especially during the winter. For example, lean proteins like salmon can help you feel better and lighter since they contain tons of amino acids. Other foods like berries and greens with folic acid are also good options that’ll help you balance out your diet during the less active months of the year.

Fill up your social calendar

Surrounding yourself with people is always a good way of distracting yourself from your problems. While it’s very common to feel like you don’t want to get dressed and interact with others, it’s important to force yourself to go out periodically, especially when it comes to activities that you’re looking forward to.

What Too Much Coffee Can Do To Your Endocannabinoid System

Coffee and weed are a pairing that is here to stay. They go together like they were made for each other, and maybe they were. But here’s how coffee can throw a wrench into that relationship.

It’s the classic mixture that gets a lot of people going in the morning: coffee and cannabis. But at least one study shows that drinking more than three cups per day has an impact on your endocannabinoid system. Now, you may be thinking, “Three cups? But that’s how much I need to consume just to open my eyes!” Perhaps not after reading this article.

Metabolites in the endocannabinoid system decrease with high levels of caffeine, according to a study, entitled “Metabolomic Response to Coffee Consumption: Application to a Three-Stage Clinical Trial”, published in the Journal of Internal Medicine. Smoking boosts the metabolites, coffee brings them back down, which means the coffee, in some ways, is cancelling out the cannabis. Not all of it, mind you, but still.

RELATED: Should You Mix CBD With Your Morning Coffee?

“What we’re seeing here is that the systems that are impacted by coffee and cannabis overlap,” lead researcher, Marilyn Cornelis, told Live Science. This implies interacting effects from drinking coffee with cannabis in your system.

Cornelis also went on to say that though the sort of interactions aren’t yet clear, the endocannabinoids that went down when coffee use went up also decreased when under stress. It’s actually quite likely that the amount of coffee that study participants drank caused agitation, which led to a drop in endocannabinoid levels.

While Cornelis does not mention the amount that the metabolites decrease or how much of your high is affected, anecdotal evidence abounds on the topic. Coffee and weed are a pairing that is here to stay. They go together like they were made for each other, and maybe they were.

RELATED: What Are The Benefits Of Mixing CBD And Coffee?

The study also speculated that the drop in metabolites at certain levels of caffeine consumption could be a protective measure for the body. Whatever it is, it must have rhyme or reason, so it won’t be surprising that this study only brought up more questions. We’ll see what comes of future research on the two magical substances when subjected to science.

One thing’s for sure: wake and baking would never be the same without a cup o’ Joe and this reporter highly doubts that this study will have too much of an impact on coffee and cannabis imbibing. It wouldn’t hurt if some people cut back on their coffee intake just a bit, as excess caffeine can cause undue stress.

Why I Use Cannabis To Help Treat My Adult ADHD

Cannabis is decidedly not a cure-all for this condition, but for some people, such as myself, its effects can provide a stimulant free adjustment of both attitude and attention.

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a complicated bit of neurodiversity. Sometimes you’re an attention superhero who’s as focused as a spotlight, bingeing the grandest projects into the wee hours of the morning. Other times, you’re a mopey, distracted mess, unable to do the most basic of tasks for days or weeks on end.

Though it’s a complex life that isn’t easy, it’s got its perks — and fervent and seemingly limitless creativity can be among them.

ADHD manifests in symptoms of hyperfocus, inability to focus, executive functioning issues, and sometimes irate behavior and mood swings. People who have this disorder will go to great lengths to counteract the negative effects, while others self-cope unknowingly for years before ever receiving a diagnosis, especially women.

Like some others with ADHD, I use cannabis to medicate, but as testing and peer reviewed research is scarce in these early days of innovation, anecdotal evidence is the only peek behind the curtain of those of us with such brains. Cannabis is decidedly not a cure-all for this condition, but for some people, such as myself, its effects can provide a stimulant free adjustment of both attitude and attention.

RELATED: How Medical Marijuana Can Help Those With ADD And ADHD Focus

I asked cannabis consultant and researcher Emma Chasen what she thinks about the possibility of cannabis assisting those with ADHD. She says, “People with ADHD are more likely to consume cannabis. Scientists are not quite sure why this is, however, we do know that certain cannabinoids and terpenes have motivational properties. And the motivational properties of these compounds are actually influenced by the hyperactive brain.

“For example, there is anecdotal evidence to support that THC and a terpene commonly found in the haze varieties, known as terpinolene, produce a very motivating, focused experience for those with ADHD & hyperactive, inattentive tendencies. This is in direct contrast to the anxiety-inducing, overwhelming experience that THC and terpinolene can induce for people who do not have symptoms of ADHD.

“More research is needed to elucidate the synergistic properties of cannabinoids and terpenes as they relate to symptom relief, especially when discussing diagnoses like ADHD. However, it seems that cannabis can help as long as the cannabinoids and terpenes are in the optimal ratios/concentrations.”

Chasen and other researchers believe that the various concentrations in different cannabis phenotypes are under researched and that when we understand every molecule in the equation, we will be closer to developing individualized medicine with cannabis.

Until then, here’s a few cannabis products with the terpenes, terpinolene and caryophyllene, which many report are helpful for ADHD.

South Dakota Just Got Serious About Marijuana Legalization

Advocacy groups collected enough signatures to place medical and adult-use marijuana initiatives in the upcoming election.

Last year, marijuana advocates fell short collecting enough signatures to put medical marijuana legalizing on the ballot. But this year two separate groups have submitted more than 80,000 signatures to petition the South Dakota Secretary of State to qualify both medical and recreational marijuana initiatives for the upcoming election.

The first petition, collated by New Approach South Dakota, includes over 30,000 signatures and would create a medical marijuana program for patients with debilitating health conditions. South Dakotans for Better Marijuana Laws spearheaded the second initiative, accumulating more than 50,000 signatures, that would legalize, regulate, and tax cannabis for adults aged 21 and older. In addition, this initiative would push legislators to institute laws that would regulate hemp cultivation, processing, and sales.

RELATED: Will Florida Be The Next State To Legalize Recreational Marijuana?

“We are proud to have submitted petitions on behalf of over 80,000 South Dakotans who believe that voters should decide our state’s marijuana and hemp laws,” Brendan Johnson, a former United States Attorney sponsoring the legalization ballot initiative, said in a news release.

New Approach South Dakota attempted to put medical marijuana on the ballot last year, but their petition was rejected after the Secretary of State’s office ruled about a third of the signatures were invalid.

The minimum number of signatures for a statutory initiative, like the medical marijuana proposal, is 16,961 signatures while a constitutional initiative, like the adult-use cannabis proposal, is 33,921. Both advocacy groups, which have support in the Marijuana Policy Project, now await the state office to certify the signatures they submitted.

“Right now, there are South Dakotans with serious health conditions who are forced to break the law in order to access effective medical treatments that allow them to live healthier and more productive lives, and that is unacceptable,” MPP Deputy Director Matthew Schweich said in a release.

Should South Dakota voters pass both initiatives, it would be the first time a state has created medical and adult-use marijuana programs in the same election. Currently, 11 states have legalized recreational cannabis and 22 states enacted medical marijuana laws.

Is Eating Before Bed A Bad Habit

Bedtime snacks are a controversial topic. Here’s what experts have to say on the matter.

Opinions on bedtime snacks are varied, with some claiming that it leads to weight gain and others stating the opposite. Like most things health related, it all depends on the individual and their personal habits.

Late night eating (aka that innocent snack you eat after dinner and before bed) has usually been associated with weight gain. Critics of this habit claim before sleep, people’s metabolism slows down, with the last calories they consume being assimilated and transformed into fat. There’s also evidence that eating right before bed could make you feel sick, especially if the meal is heavy and makes your digestive system work hard.

In truth, the most important factor in determining weight gain is your habits. While eating before bed shouldn’t cause weight gain in theory, it’s a habit that encourages other bad habits. These snacks usually don’t count as a meal, meaning that they’re extra calories. They’re also occurring at the time of the day when people are the hungriest, meaning that your snacking can quickly transform into eating enough calories that throw off your daily caloric intake.

While it’s not the norm to eat right before sleeping, some people have less time on their hands, limiting their options. Gastroenterologist David Poppers told Men’s Health that these meals should be kept within the 600 calorie range, and that they should be consumed without distractions, ensuring that the food is chewed properly and that people won’t consume too much air per bite.

RELATED: Here Are 3 Methods That Can Help You Stay Healthy Once The Munchies Hit

Some research says that for people who get very hungry at night, one snack after dinner could help them control their urges for eating more. It seems like what matters most in all of these scenarios is what you eat instead of the time when you eat it. No matter from what angle you look at it, eating a slice of pizza right before sleeping is not going to help you lose weight or feel any better in the morning. But an evening snack in the form of an apple or a bowl of cereal might.

Demi Moore Says Her ‘Addiction’ to Ashton Kutcher Was ‘Devastating’

Via People:

Demi Moore is opening up about her struggles with ex-husband Ashton Kutcher and the effects their relationship had on her three daughters.

“The addiction and the co-dependency… like my addiction to Ashton — that was probably almost more devastating because it took me seriously away emotionally,” Moore, 56, said on Monday’s Red Table Talk on Facebook Watch.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B4bAt2LnAnP/

Sitting down with hosts Jada Pinkett Smith, Willow Smith and Adrienne Banfield-Norris, the actress and two of her three daughters: Rumer and Tallulah Willis, spoke about her spiral into addiction after almost 20 years of sobriety.

Tallulah, 25, spoke about the repercussions her mother’s addiction had on her after her older sisters, Rumer, 31, and Scout, 28, moved out.

“Watching the behavior with Ashton, those years, because everyone had left the house and it was just me living there. I felt very forgotten and I feel like I developed and nurtured a narrative where she didn’t love me and I truly believed it,” Tallulah said. “I know that she does, 100 percent but in that moment you’re hurt.”

Tallulah was 9 years old when Moore relapsed. Moore described the moment she fell back into addictive habits while on a trip with Kutcher, 41. The two were married for eight years before they divorced in 2013.

“Ashton said, ‘I don’t know if alcoholism’s a thing. I think it’s about moderation,’” Moore recalled. “If I had stayed close to working my program… I, of course, lived the majority of my adult life sober. I was great sober.”

When Willow asked what she thought made her quit sobriety, Moore said, “I wanted to be that girl.”

“I made my own story up, that he wanted somebody that he could have wine with that he could do stuff [with]. He’s not the cause of why I opened that door up,” she continued. “I wanted to be something other than who I am. And I gave my power away.”

Demi Lovato Talks New Music, Body Image In 1st Interview Since Her Overdose

Via iHeart Radio:

Demi Lovato attended the 2019 Teen Vogue Summit at Goya Studios in Los Angeles to give her first interview since she suffered a near-fatal overdose in July 2018. After a year of introspection, the “Tell Me You Love Me” singer has set out on a road to confidence, happiness, and sobriety, having accomplished as much by remaining clean every step of the way. Now, in this new sit-down, the pop star talks about accepting her body, new music, and facing her own reflection.

Scroll down for all the highlights from Lovato’s first interview in over a year below.

On body positivity: “We hear the term body positivity all the time. To be honest, I don’t always feel positive about my body. Sometimes I do not like what I see. I don’t sit there and dwell on it. I also don’t lie to myself. I used to look in the mirror if I was having a bad body image day and say ‘I love my body, you’re beautifully and wonderfully made.’ But I didn’t believe it. I don’t have to lie to myself and tell myself I have an amazing body. All I have to say is ‘I’m healthy.’ In that statement, I express gratitude. I am grateful for my strength and things I can do with my body. I am saying I’m healthy and I accept the way my body is today without changing anything.”

On living for herself: “Over the past five years I’ve learned life is not worth living unless you’re living for yourself. If you’re trying to be someone you’re not, or you’re trying to please other people, it’s not going to work out in the long run,” she said. “If you want to dye your hair purple, dye your hair purple. If you want to love someone of the same sex, love someone of the same sex. Be yourself and don’t be afraid of what people think.”

On dealing with cyber bullies: “What people don’t realize is I’m an extremely sensitive person. When someone says something mean about me or makes a meme making fun of me, I have a good sense of humor. But when it’s a very serious subject it can be hurtful. … I’m so tired of pretending I’m not human. When you say stuff, it affects me. I try not to look, but I see it.”

On releasing new music: “I have new music coming. I didn’t say when — now I’m just teasing you. It’s important to remember that I am so cautious this time around of jumping back into things. I’ve really decided to take my time with things. When the time is right, I will put it out there. I am dying to release new music … but everything in due time.”

On facing herself in the mirror: “What I see in the mirror [is] someone that’s overcome a lot. I’ve been through a lot and I genuinely see a fighter. I don’t see a championship winner, but I see a fighter and someone who is going to continue to fight no matter what is thrown their way. I have a lot of confidence now because I have said the things I believe in. … That’s what I see when I look in the mirror — a strong woman.”

What You Need To Know About Marijuana And Birth Control

While most doctors remind patients of the risks of using cannabis when they start a birth control regime, many patients still have unanswered questions.

Whether a woman is trying to prevent pregnancy, or choosing birth control for another reason altogether, the choice of birth control can come with the possibility for negative effects on the body. For instance, many women aren’t aware that the risk of smoking tobacco while on hormonal birth can elevate their risk for stroke, blood clot, and heart attack.

Birth control pills and other methods of contraception have also been known to increase blood pressure and some types of cancer. As with everything, medicine often offers a trade of risks. For women concerned about the risks associated with mixing marijuana with birth control, here’s what you should know.

Blood Pressure and THC

While THC can elevate blood pressure directly after ingesting, more studies are still needed to understand the direct cause. A 2016 study published in the  Journal of Hypertension found “a modest association between recent cannabis use and systolic blood pressure,” but stressed the importance of waiting for other studies to investigate further.

RELATED: Here’s What Pregnant And Breastfeeding Women Need To Know About CBD

In fact, the Cardiology Advisor explains it one step further. With cannabinoids affecting blood pressure in different ways, a recent study showed that cannabis users had higher systolic versus diastolic blood pressure. Systolic blood pressure measures the movement or force of blood against the artery walls while diastolic measures the resting period between heartbeats. The modest rise in blood pressure of about 3mm Hg, the Cardiology Advisor found the number may be “difficult to discern in clinical practice.”

Interestingly, in several studies, it was found that cannabinoid (CBD) oil actually decreased blood pressure. In a 2017 study published in JCI Insight, researchers found that CBD oil reduced a resting systolic blood pressure rate and stroke volume while increasing the heart rate. Individuals who took CBD had a lower blood pressure rate by -5mmHg and an increased heart rate at 10 bpm.

Easing the effects of birth control

Birth control can have other effects on the body, like vaginal dryness and mood swings. Cannabinoid receptors are present in the uterus, fallopian tubes, and other areas of the female reproductive tract. We know cannabinoids play a part in helping to control inflammation and pain, but also pleasure.

RELATED: The Impact Cannabis Use During Pregnancy And Breastfeeding Has On Newborns

For women who experience hesitation during sexual intercourse, or currently in menopause, science suggests that CBD oil may help to not only set the mood but ease dryness and pain during sex. Women are just starting to investigate the power of CBD and THC put topically on the body. One woman shared her story on using cannabis as a lubricant on HelloMD, saying, “Cannabis has helped me in many ways—from cramp relief after getting a UTI to pain relief-focused topicals to the amazing benefits of cannabis-infused lubricants.”

While most doctors remind patients of the risks of using cannabis when they start a birth control regime, many patients still have unanswered questions. For women seeking answers of whether or not cannabis or CBD is safe to use while on birth control, the best step is to have an open and frank discussion with your gynecologist.

New Study Suggests Smoking Cigarettes Makes People Less Attractive

0

A new study claims that the term “smoker’s face” isn’t just an insult; there’s scientific evidence to prove it actually exists.

As if lung cancer and impaired health wasn’t a big enough deterrent, a new study says that smoking cigarettes also causes “smoker’s face,” a condition that makes people’s faces look older and less attractive.

This term, coined in the 80s, refers to the facial lines and the damage that appears once people pick up a smoking habit for long periods of time. Although the expression was used randomly, scientists hadn’t found evidence that supported it until now. This new study, conducted by PLOS Genetics, says that smokers tend to look older than people their own age, having two genetic variants that non-smokers don’t have.

“The analysis searched across 18,000 traits and apart from the new finding of more rapid facial aging, also identified several previously reported effects of smoking, confirming the method’s effectiveness. The known effects of smoking that the analysis identified included worse lung function, and higher risk of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and skin cancer,” says the study.

The New York Post points out some of the side effects of smoking that people find unattractive, including: yellow teeth, a propensity for more cavities and dental issues, dry skin, and a propensity for saggy and wrinkly skin, due to the loss of elasticity caused by nicotine. All of these — depending on the smoker’s habits — could settle in before the age of 30, drastically affecting people’s looks. Another trait that’s rarely mentioned is the lines that appear on the corners of people’s mouths due to the puckering of the lips around the cigarette.

RELATED: Research Shows Parallels Between Cannabis And Tobacco Secondhand Smoke

There’s a lot of contradicting evidence out there regarding smoking. While there’s been a large focus on people quitting the habit and trading it for other healthier options (the CDC claims smokers in the U.S. have reduced their numbers from 20% in 2005 to 14% in 2017) the rise of vaping devices also needs to be accounted for. Despite the vaping illnesses that have affected hundreds of people, teenagers are vaping in increasing amounts. Still, despite all of this, studies that say that smoking could make us uglier might make people think twice before lighting up. We’re all a little vain, aren’t we?

Senior Citizens Are The Biggest Marijuana Users In Canada

As marijuana sales reach an all-time high in Canada, senior citizens have a significant hand in rising legal cannabis use in the country.

When serious conversations around marijuana legalization begin, a loud opposition always voices concern over adolescents suddenly sparking up. The argument follows that legalization would make weed use more appealing to youngsters, thanks to increased familiarity and access. But research suggests the exact opposite time and again.

Washington and Denver teenagers used marijuana less after the substance was legalized in their areas, studies have found, while federal data from 2017 The National Survey on Drug Use and Health reported adolescent use declines in all legal states except Alaska.

Canadians heard similar arguments prior to official rollouts of legal marijuana sales last year. But the demographic flocking to cannabis in droves is senior citizens. According to recent data from Statistics Canada, older adults account for the fastest-growing demographic of cannabis users in the country.

In 2012, less than 1% of Canadian seniors reported using marijuana—about 40,000 total consumers. Today, that number has jumped tenfold to 400,000 marijuana users, which translates to 7% of the demographic. A quarter of this group admit to being first-time users as well. This influx of users has increased the average age of the Canadian marijuana user, which was 29.4 years in 2004, but has since risen to 38.1 in 2019.

In figures that echo legal marijuana users in the United States, more than half of seniors say they exclusively use cannabis for medicinal purposes, and for its general health effects. The other half of the population split between recreational use and recreational/medicinal use. Seniors were also most likely to use cannabis products obtained through legal means (41%) versus younger consumers (ranging from 23% to 29%, depending on age group).

RELATED: 1 In 5 Professional Golfers Used Marijuana This Year

The number is not insignificant. Much like California, Canada struggles combatting black market sales in the country. High taxes and scarce retail weed shops have kept many Canadians choosing their neighborhood dealers instead of licensed producers. Per Statistics Canada, the tides are changing, albeit slowly. Canadians obtaining cannabis from illegal sources dropped from 52% in 2018 to 42% in 2019. Earlier this year, Statistics Canada also reported legal marijuana sales reaching an all-time high.
