Andy Cohen Reveals The Cities That Didn’t Make the Cut for The Real Housewives; Leslie Jones Slams Sephora For Bad Customer Service

Andy Cohen Reveals the Cities That Didn’t Make the Cut for The Real Housewives

Via Bravo TV:

Will The Real Housewives be heading to any more new cities in the future? “It seems like we’re good right now,” Andy Cohen, who is an executive producer of The Real Housewives, said during an audience Q&A at the Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen For Your Consideration Emmys event in New York City on May 20.

Andy noted the success of the two newest additions to The Real Housewives, The Real Housewives of Potomac and The Real Housewives of Dallas, since they premiered in 2016. “I think Dallas and Potomac kind of took people by surprise. They’ve worked really well,” he said. “Dallas had a breakout season last year, and Potomac’s got it happening right now.”

He then gave some insight into what qualities they look for in a Real Housewives city. “They’re usually aspirational. They have their own identity,” Andy explained. “You know, it’s funny, they’re the same kind of format, if you want to call it a ‘format,’ but they all feel completely different, like really different ecosystems in every city. And so, that’s really important, too.”

But of course, it’s really the women who make the show. “You look for a group of friends. Producers bring in casting people, and they find women who are on the society pages and belong to country clubs. ‘Who are your friends, and how do you know each other?’” Andy shared. “In the end, you kind of wind up with a reel of maybe 10 women who have some connections with each other. There’s a little diagram that you look at.”

And some cities have been better suited to be a Real Housewives franchise than others, Andy revealed. “We’ve cast in some cities that we haven’t wound up pursuing, like Greenwich, Connecticut and Chicago and San Francisco and Houston,” he said. “So there have been a lot of places that we’ve tried but just didn’t work.”

Leslie Jones Slams Sephora for Bad Customer Service Hours Before Stores Host Inclusion Training

Via PEOPLE:

Comedy and clapback queen Leslie Jones just called out the beauty giant, Sephora.

The Saturday Night Live actress blasted the makeup retailer on Twitter on Tuesday, writing, “I sent my makeup artist @LolasBeautyMark and my best friends wife to @Sephora 2103 Broadway store. she needed makeup and to learn how to apply. my makeup artist just called in tears of how bad they treated her and my friends wife!! The salesperson and manager. SO NO MORE SEPHORA”

Jones’s followers chimed in, sharing their own negative Sephora experiences. One Twitter user wrote, “Don’t even get me started! I had the rudest ever encounter with the New York staff!”

Sephora responded to Jones’s allegations in a statement to PEOPLE.

“As a company, we hold ourselves to a high, and public, set of standards around creating a welcoming space for each and every client. The information shared by Leslie Jones regarding Lola Okanlawon’s experience at Sephora is concerning, and the situation she describes does not reflect our values. We have reached out to Lola to gather more information. It is our priority to build an inclusive community and a place where all clients feel respected. Our journey has not been perfect and is by no means complete. We will continue to learn and work toward this goal.”

Bumble Is Opening A Bar That Will Only Serve Date-Friendly Foods

Bumble Brew, a cafe by day and wine bar by night, is Bumble’s last development. The dating app that requires women to make the first move will be opening a physical location in SoHo New York in fall 2019.

Bloomberg reports that this isn’t the first time Bumble has stepped out of the digital space. Two years ago the company launched Hive, a pop up store located in SoHo and Los Angeles that offered food, drinks, and seminars especially designed for women. The topics touched upon in these discussions included technology, health and relationships, and they were very successful, with the Los Angeles location remaining open for several months.

Bumble has 160 million users in 150 countries, with 40% of them located in New York. App developers call the city the place where there’s most Bumble activity, making it the ideal spot for the cafe/wine bar. Bumble Brew will be partnering up with Delicious Hospitality in order to develop food and beverages that are suited for dates, so fun foods like spaghetti and burgers are off the table.

Dating apps have received a lot of criticism due to the fact that they’ve become more of a hobby than a way of meeting potential partners, with people wasting hours of their days swiping and looking through profiles as if they were catalogues.

Bumble has stood out because it tried to eliminate the creep factor, something that’s rampant on Tinder and other apps. Still, how is a bar that’s no different than any other New York bar going to make online dating feel more “personal”? Who’s excited to go to a restaurant filled with awkward first dates?

So, Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Might Be Moving To America

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may go the extra mile to escape the royal shadow of their in-laws, Prince William and Kate Middleton. A royal correspondent says the couple is thinking about moving the U.S. with their newborn son, Archie.

Royal insiders have recently stated that the Harry and Meghan were planning to move to Africa following the birth of their baby, but that doesn’t seem to be happening.

Speaking on his iHeart Radio show, columnist and royal commentator Rob Shuter said that Meghan is leaving Britain with her prince and baby. “Meghan Markle refuses to move to Africa, she wants to come to the USA.

“Meghan knows if she stays in Britain, this will always mean living in their shadow. Meghan is not the type of girl who is happy coming in second place.”

Shuter said Meghan shelved the idea of an Africa move after her baby shower in Febrary sparked a huge deal of public interest in the states.

“After her baby shower in New York, Meghan knows she and Harry could do this, and if they did do this, they would become the unofficial king and queen of America.”

The couple would be joining other ex-pat royals in the U.S.. As The Daily Express points out, Lord Frederick Windsor, a first cousin once removed of the Queen and brother of recently married Gabriella Windsor, works as a financial analyst in Los Angeles. Their first child was born at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center nearly six years ago.

Guess What? Your Doctor Probably Knows Nothing About Marijuana

Believe it or not, most doctors are ill-informed on the medicinal and therapeutic benefits of cannabis. While marijuana is legal for medicinal use in 34 states and 11 states have legalized adult use, “evidence suggests that many physicians may be unprepared for this reality,” writes Nathaniel Morris, a resident physician at the Stanford University School of Medicine.

Published in the highly regarded Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) this week, Morris’s op-ed documents how medical institutions have failed to teach clinicians how cannabis could help their patients. Sadly, this is a reality faced by many with a serious medical ailment not easily fixed by modern medicine — like PTSD, cancer, or intractable epilepsy, for example.

“Marijuana has become an inescapable part of my medical training, and most of my learning has come from patients,” writes Morris, who lives in California where medical marijuana has been legal for almost 23 years.

RELATED: Why Does Cannabis Make Some People Freak Out?

The psychiatry student cited several studies that present eyebrow-raising statistics. Here’s some:

– In 2016 surveys, “just 9% of medical schools had documented content on medical marijuana in the Association of American Medical Colleges Curriculum Inventory.”

– Those same polls found that “85% of 258 surveyed residents and fellows reported having no education about medical marijuana in medical school or residency.”

– “Presented at a 2017 meeting, a single-site study of 51 resident physicians found that 76% did not know which category marijuana belonged to under the Controlled Substances Act.” (For the record, marijuana it’s a Schedule I drug, which classifies marijuana as a drug with no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse.)

– That same study reported “38% [of resident physicians] believed that medical marijuana was a prescription drug approved by the US Food and Drug Administration.”

And while Morris deserves kudos for writing such a piece, his stance resembles the same position which discourages patients from speaking honestly with their physicians about using cannabis in the first place. He expresses concern over “recent marijuana trends” like “wax or shatter,” which he typifies as “concentrated extracts that are highly potent and poorly understood.” Highly potent, yes, but poorly understood? Not sure about that one. Previously we’ve written how concentrates might be effective for patients with chronic pain, as they’re cheaper, stronger, and longer-lasting than smoking dried bud, but not recommended for newcomers, as the high dose is no joke.

RELATED: Want To Survive A Heart Attack? Use Cannabis, Say Researchers

“Part of the reason physicians may feel poorly trained is that many of marijuana’s health effects are not known,” Morris also writes. This is another statement that presents a mixed bag. Though Morris is correct in stating “more and higher quality research is essential” moving forward, there has been plenty of adequate research that gives us some basic understanding of marijuana’s biochemical and therapeutic benefits, as Leafly first pointed out.

If Morris makes one thing clear, it’s how paramount it is that universities and hospital boost their institutional knowledge and resources around cannabis to properly assist their patients in the future. Until then, patients and doctors alike will have to turn to resources like this website to learn more about how best to treat their illnesses.

5 Tips To Help You Survive The Middle Seat On A Long Flight

Having a middle seat is never pleasant, but when you’re stuck in a long flight it becomes particularly painful. After the first hour your butt starts to cramp, your shoulders feel tight and your neck is tense because you’re fighting so hard to avoid falling asleep on someone else’s shoulder. Middle seats shouldn’t exist but they do, so something must be done to make it better.

We compiled a short list of things you can do in order to make your seating arrangements more bearable and the hours fly by faster. Here’s what you can do in order to make the best out of your middle seat.

Store your bag in the overhead bin

https://giphy.com/gifs/airplane-experience-entire-uw4CmptVq2lLq

RELATED: How To Cancel A Flight Without Paying A Cancellation Fee

In order to stretch your legs and have some more space, take out all the items you need – headphones, water, books, tablets – and store your bag in the overhead bin. Just because flight attendants say that there’s not enough space in the plane doesn’t mean that you should be in pain.

Have headphones and entertainment in hand

https://giphy.com/gifs/rachel-mcadams-popcorn-rmcadams-BbFI5by1d6Tvy

Having a middle seat means that you’ll be stuck between two people, increasing your odds of having a talkative neighbor. Unless you enjoy that kind of stuff, always have with you a pair of efficient headphones in order to have an easy way out, even though there’s no guarantee that this method will work. There are some very persistent seat neighbors.

Take a book or a tablet and download some material that can entertain your for a couple of hours. Since you probably won’t be able to sleep, keep your mind occupied with some Netflix.

Use the restroom before boarding

https://giphy.com/gifs/game-of-thrones-hbo-lets-do-this-Lm63QU87HvgVEuTV63

Before the whole plane boarding mayhem begins, make some time to visit the bathroom. Being in the middle seat means that you’ll likely be awoken by your window neighbor when they’re on their way to the restroom and that you’ll have a hard time going there yourself if you’re shy about waking the person that’s on the aisle seat.

Take up both armrests

https://giphy.com/gifs/american-horror-story-taylor-swift-blank-space-O8foD3Gc70QOA

RELATED: Airline Passengers Keep Stealing Luxe Bedding From First Class

Don’t be scared to take up both of your armrests, in fact, do so as soon as you sit down. Your neighbors more space and an have an extra armrest. It’s also unlikely that they’ll bother you for the extra space.

Pay extra and avoid it

https://giphy.com/gifs/computer-GyLc9e3hTYFWw

If you still find the middle seat too uncomfortable, pay extra for an aisle or a window seat and avoid all of this drama. While getting a seat upgrade generally comes with a significant bump in ticket price, you’ll at least have the space you want for sleeping and stretching.

5 Videos Of Cute Animals To Get You Through This Week: June 3

There’s no better pick-me-up than the one you get when you see a clip of an animal acting silly, which is why we’ve compiled this weekly column. These short videos feature all sorts of animals, providing you with that much needed rush of endorphins.

This week’s column features a giant lion, a husky trying to figure out a mattress, a wonderfully edited dog dance, a very vocal Frenchie and a poodle with a very adorable haircut. Check them out!

I don’t know if this is just me having no knowledge about lions and their proportions, but this girl looks like one of those cartoon lions from the Ice Age. No matter, she is still friendly and calm, happy to take a walk in the sun and get her much needed back rubs.

A smart dog

Huskies are silly and dumb, just like the video above, which helpfully edits in the thoughts of the dog as it makes several discoveries. First, the mattress has a strange texture and second, there’s just so much space underneath that bed. And then back to the mattress.

Kind of gross but also amazing

https://www.instagram.com/p/ByT23ToF2UD/

This wonderfully edited video shows you how some music and slow motion can transform an unfortunate clip of a dog rubbing his butt against the pavement into some hilarious dance moves. Those back kicks are something else.

This frenchie with an impeccable coat of fur looks upset and disappointed with its owner, making concerned facial expressions and trying its best to say something. In the end, it lands on a bark and some more disappointed faces.

An unfortunate haircut

https://www.instagram.com/p/ByVDgyWl4M9/

While I don’t know why someone would do that to their loving dog, I still approve because he looks like a giant ice cream or a cartoon sheep. This poor guy’s humiliation goes even further, as he is tricked into licking a fake ice cream cone.

FDA Holds First Public Hearing On Regulating CBD

Photo by HighGradeRoots/Getty ImagesLast week, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) held its first public hearing on regulating cannabidiol (CBD). Over the last several years, CBD has been growing in popularity as a health and wellness product. That popularity has only been amplified by the passage of the 2018 Farm Bill, which removed hemp and hemp-derived products (CBD included) from the federal government’s list of controlled substances.

At stake in these hearings is a potentially billion-dollar market. According to Brightfield Group, the CBD market could grow to as high as $22 billion by 2022. How the FDA decides to regulate the substance will play a significant role in how high that figure grows. Currently, there are several competing ideas about how CBD should be regulated.

RELATED: Topical CBD: The FDA Stance On Hemp Derived CBD In Cosmetics

Some individuals want CBD to be treated as a pharmaceutical ingredient, which means that any product containing CBD would have to go through the lengthy and arduous FDA approval process. Others would rather see CBD classified as a nutritional supplement, which carries fewer regulatory requirements before hitting the market.

Many operators in both the hemp and cannabis industry would rather see the FDA create separate categories for CBD products, depending on their intended use. Products meant to treat, diagnose or cure an illness, like GW Pharmaceuticals’ epilepsy drug Epidiolex, would be treated as a pharmaceutical while food products or extracts containing CBD would be classified as a nutritional supplement.

During the hearing, FDA officials were looking for answers to three primary issue: how safe is CBD; what kind of rules should be in place to ensure product safety, quality, and consistency; and what sort of labeling requirements should govern CBD products? Listening to testimony from over 120 industry stakeholders, advocates, and medical professionals; officials heard varying responses.

RELATED: FDA Issues More Guidance On CBD Products

While cannabis and hemp industry advocates argued for different classifications for different types of CBD products, individuals representing large biopharmaceutical companies argued tighter controls. One woman representing GW Pharmaceuticals argued that the FDA approval process was the only way to know for sure what the health effects of CBD are, arguing that her company did not know that CBD may negatively affect the liver until they conducted clinical trials.

It is also important to note that GW Pharmaceuticals is the only company with an FDA-approved CBD-based drug on the market at the moment.

While it appears that the FDA is committed to hashing out the details of how to regulate CBD, it is unlikely that the issue will be resolved soon. In a message on social media, acting FDA CIO and Principal Deputy, Dr. Amy Abernathy, emphasized that critical issues needed to be addressed before regulatory action is taken.

RELATED: Is FDA Behind The Latest CBD Crackdown?

“Given the rapid expansion of the market, timely clarification of the path forward is critical,” Abernathy wrote, “but it’s our responsibility to ensure that the regulatory path is scientifically sound and in the interest of public health.”

An FDA appointed working group, chaired by Abernathy, is currently exploring potential regulatory pathways for CBD. Interested parties and industry stakeholders are also encouraged to provide written commentary, which can be submitted online. The deadline for written comments is July 2, 2019.

Nick Jonas On His Sex Life Being News At 13; Chrissy Teigen Slams Troll Who Criticized Her Daughter’s Hair

Chrissy Teigen slams troll who criticizes daughter Luna’s hair

Via Fox News:

Chrissy Teigen was quick to respond to a troll who criticized her young daughter’s hair.

In a video posted to Instagram this week, Teigen, 33, negotiates with her 3-year-old daughter Luna about how many pieces of candy she can have.

https://www.instagram.com/p/ByQMVBRh0sh/

“I now call to order the meeting of the candy,” Teigen says in the video. “First off, Luna, I would like you to speak. Tell me about why you deserve the candy.”

“I want the candy [because] I want it and I like it,” Luna, who was seated next to her father John Legend, says in response.

The pair later settled on two pieces of candy.

After Teigen took to Instagram with the footage, many of the model’s followers were quick to comment on the sweet exchange. But at least one person took the opportunity to criticize the young girl’s hair.

“Finally someone brushed her hair,” a troll reportedly wrote, according to Us Weekly.

“All by herself! Maybe she can come do your makeup,” Teigen clapped back, per the publication.

Teigen, the author of “Cravings: Hungry for More,” isn’t shy when it comes to firing back at social media followers who criticize her.

“I have moods like anybody else. Some days, I’ll wake up and I’ll read something and it’ll totally not affect me,” Teigen told Good Housekeeping in January.

“But if I read that same thing the next day — after a night of no sleep and a really rough day with Luna—it naturally gets to you because you’re in a sh–tier mood,” she continued. “If I wake up, and I’m like, ‘Ugh, I feel bloated, I haven’t worked out for a few days’ and I read something about my body? That’s the day that I’m gonna speak up. It’s just crazy how judgmental people can be.”

Separately, Teigen, referring to Internet trolls, told Page Six in May she doesn’t take things as personally as she once did.

“I think you can respond [to trolls] if you’re having fun with them and make it more lighthearted. I used to respond to so many things and I don’t even like it when Twitter is an angry place,” she said, adding “I’m much more able to laugh everything off, so I’ve grown a lot, we’ll say, with Twitter and Instagram.”

Nick Jonas on his sex life being news at age 13

Via Yahoo! Entertainment:

The Jonas Brothers spoke with the U.K.’s The Guardian about getting back together five years after a “deep rift” split them apart professionally. The “Sucker” singers are preparing to release their first album, Happiness Begins, in six years on Friday — and have a new documentary out, Chasing Happiness, on Amazon now.

On the topic of the purity rings the guys wore — and really became known for — Nick, 26, said that his was good because it shaped his view of sex.

“The values behind the idea of understanding what sex is, and what it means, are incredibly important,” said Jonas, who married Priyanka Chopra last year. “When I have children, I’ll make sure they understand the importance of sex, and consent, and all the things that are important.”

However, he took issue with the media obsession with the rings, symbols of abstinence. As he and his brothers, whose dad was a pastor before becoming their manager, got older and started dating, the status of their rings was constantly reported on. (An actual headline from 2010: “BREAKING NEWS! Joe Jonas Broke His Promise to God: The Purity Ring Is Off!” And four years later, after Nick stopped wearing his, ABC News reported, Why Nick Jonas Is No Longer Wearing His Purity Ring.)

“What’s discouraging about that chapter of our life is that at 13 or 14 my sex life was being discussed,” Nick said. “It was very tough to digest it in real time, trying to understand what it was going to mean to me, and what I wanted my choices to be, while having the media speaking about a 13-year-old’s sex life.”

Survey: Parents And Their Children Are Equally Addicted To Smartphones

We have this perception of kids and teenagers as being the ones who are more crippled by onscreen addiction, unable to step away from their devices for longer than a couple of minutes. But a new report reveals that their parents are just as affected. Is anyone really surprised?

The New York Post reports that over 1,000 parents and their children were surveyed for a by Common Sense Media, a company that was interested in the effects technology has on families. One third of children and a quarter of the parents surveyed said that they checked their phones in the middle of the night at least once for reasons other than checking the time.

RELATED: 4 Features That Prove Smartphones & Social Media Are Addictive By Design

Parents and kids reported that phone and device usage had lead to arguments within the family and that it interrupts meal times. When compared to results gathered in previous years, family members are now more concerned and affected by their phone habits. Here are some of the most important results that the survey compiled:

  • 39% of teenagers wish their parents would get off their device, up from 28% in 2016.
  • 45% of parents say they feel addicted to their mobile device, up from 27% in 2016.
  • 38% of teens feel their parent is addicted to their mobile device, up from 28% in 2016.
  • 52% of parents say they spend too much time on their devices up from 29% in 2016.

While a large percentage of parents and children claimed that tech usage didn’t affect their relationships, 28% of the parents surveyed believed that their child’s phone usage had harmed their relationship in one way or another.

RELATED: Social Media Is Crazy So Here’s How You Can Download Or Delete Your Online Data

According to the researchers behind the survey, parents who are concerned with their kids’ tech habits should monitor their own smartphone usage, since that instructs children on how to behave at home. Enforcing device-free dinners and activities could also be another way of ensuring that technology doesn’t take over your home.

Sorry, But New York Probably Won’t Legalize Marijuana This Year

New Yorkers love to joke about its little brother New Jersey, ribbing any and all of that state’s shortcomings, but the pair are two peas on a pod when it comes to marijuana reform. Just as New Jersey did before, New York poised itself as the next state to legalize recreational marijuana but lacks enough support from lawmakers to do so.

NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo confessed this week that he doesn’t have the votes in the State Senate to push legalization forward. Cuomo previously had promised adult-use marijuana legislation for New Yorkers in 2019, but as the state’s legislative session comes to end, the governor says it probably won’t happen this year.

RELATED: New York To Stop Testing Would-Be Employees For Marijuana

“I don’t think it’s feasible at this point. I don’t think it matters how much I push in 11 days. I think when the Senate says we don’t have the votes, I take them at the word,” Cuomo said.

Forecasts had predicted 2019 as the best year for cannabis form, in part because New York and New Jersey were supposedly locks to legalize recreational marijuana. Cuomo, as well as New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy, had campaigned on pushing through marijuana legalization in the state. But doing so without the impetus of voter initiatives have proven meddlesome to New Jersey and New York.

“It’s hard to do it legislatively, I admit,” Murphy said.

RELATED: Texas (Yes, Texas!) Will Have A Medical Marijuana Program — Sort Of

But it’s difficult to absolve either Murphy or Cuomo in light of Illinois’ recent actions to do what those states could not—legalize possession and the commercial sale of cannabis through the legislature. Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker campaigned on similar marijuana legalization promises as Cuomo and Murphy, except he got the job done. So as Illinois becomes the 11th state to legalize adult-use marijuana, New Yorkers—and Jersey folk—will have to wait a little longer.
