Are We Growing Horns Because Of This

Here’s something pretty unbelievable, or is it? Researchers have found that a small horn is growing more and more common in younger generations, sprouting from the base of their necks and is, at times, so pronounced that it can be seen and felt through the skin.

RELATED: Survey: Parents And Their Children Are Equally Addicted To Smartphones

This report, published by the BBC, was conducted by Dr. David Shahur of the University of the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia. He’d been practicing medicine for over 20 years when he first noticed the growth and started to document it.  “Only in the last decade, increasingly I have been discovering that my patients have this growth on the skull,” he said.

These spikes, which are officially called “external occipital protuberance,” are said to be formed due to the bent-neck position that most cellphone users take when using their devices over long periods of time, putting an extra pressure at the point where the neck muscles meet the skull. The new growth is the body’s way of trying to redistribute the weight of the person’s head.

According to a study conducted on 2016 where over 200 radiographs were analyzed, around 41 percent of people have growths. The patients inspected were between the ages of 18 – 30, and the majority of them were males, with one man having a spike that measured 1.4 inches.

Last year, Dr. Shahur broadened his study to include members of older generations and found that the issue was more prevalent in younger people, proving the theory that smartphones have a direct effect on how our bodies are shaped.

While the spikes don’t need any treatment, if we don’t change and improve our postures, they might be here to stay. “If no one is bothering them, they will just keep growing,” says the doctor.

Medical Marijuana Patients Can Be Busted For Stoned Driving

Marijuana is now legal in more than 30 states for medicinal purposes, giving patients with a variety of debilitating conditions the freedom to use it as a way to improve their lives. But one of the most common misconceptions is that being a medical marijuana cardholder provides a certain level of protection if a police officer happens to suspect that a patient is driving impaired. It doesn’t. In many cases, even if a patient isn’t actually high while they are behind the wheel, law enforcement can still find ways to drag them to jail and file charges for this offense. So yes, medical marijuana patients can be busted for stoned driving.

Police departments have what is known as drug recognition experts (DRE) that are trained to detect when a motorist is impaired. These officers are supposedly proficient in determining when a motorist is under the influence of alcohol and other drugs. Identifying these culprits typically involves a 12-step DRE protocol, which can include a breath test, eye examination, analysis of vital signs, and just observing the behavior of the driver. Right now, the same sobriety testing methods used to detect alcohol impairment are being used to catch people on marijuana.

RELATED: The Number Of People Who Get Behind The Wheel After Smoking Weed Will Surprise You

“I think what a lot of people don’t understand is impairment is impairment, whether it is from alcohol, marijuana or other drugs and, if they have a prescription or medical marijuana card, if a person is behind the wheel, they are still dangerous,” saidKevin Behrens, the director for the Board of Tests for Alcohol and Drug Influence, in an interview with KFOR Oklahoma News 4.

The problem with roadside drug testing for marijuana is they do not distinguish between who is high right now and who was high last night. Because of how marijuana metabolizes in the body, THC can show up in a person’s system up to a month after their last use. This can be problematic for regular users.

But there is no effective breathalyzer on the market that can tell the difference between the two situations. This means as long as THC is present in a person’s system – this can be found through saliva and blood tests — police can, in most cases, charge a motorist for driving under the influence.

Unfortunately, holding a state-issued medical marijuana card doesn’t provide patients with any kind of defense.

But since there is no way to determine beyond doubt whether a person was driving high or not, legal expert say it can be tough for the prosecution to land a conviction – as long as the suspect fights the charge.

“It is difficult for the DA’s, as well as the police, to prosecute these cases because of the fact that the marijuana — you don’t know when it’s been smoked, as opposed to somebody with alcohol in their system,” California defense attorney Robert Shatzco saidin a 2018 interview with KRON4. In the marijuana situation,” he continued, “we don’t know whether or not the person has ingested the marijuana recently or as far away as 30 days.”

Several years ago, a report from CBS News suggested that the majority of marijuana impairment cases were being acquitted because the law was not strong enough to hold users accountable.

So, if you ever find yourself in the position of being charged with high driving, the most important thing to remember is to deny and fight the charges. Find an attorney that specializes in these types of cases and keep his or her number close. You never know when a routine traffic stop will escalate.

Did The Sussexes Snub Prince William And More

Did the Sussexes ‘snub’ Prince William on his birthday?

Via The Sun:

Prince William turned 37 June 21 and the Kensington Palace Instagram account did a special birthday tribute to the heir to the throne. But surprisingly, there was radio silence from the Sussex Royal account, in the wake of Harry, 34, and Meghan, 37, splitting from the Fab Four’s joint charity foundation. Despite doing a congratulatory post for “grandpa” Prince Philip, who turned 98 on June 10, the couple didn’t do a separate post for William.

RELATED: Science Explains How Marijuana Inspires Awe

Editor in Chief Majesty Magazine Ingrid Seward told Fabulous Digital that the lack of warmth for William could be taken as a snub at Kensington Palace. She said: “I think it’s a snub if they don’t leave one for Prince William as they did for the Duke and for the Queen. If they don’t I think it’s pretty rude and will certainly be construed as purposeful. That is the trouble with Instagram it becomes your slave. But it’s not as if it’s a cousin or a friend – it’s Harry’s big brother.”

Why Lo Bosworth Turned Down ‘The Hills: New Beginnings’

Via Marie Claire:

Last summer, Lo was asked on the Conversations with Maria Menounos podcast whether or not she planned to join the cast. In typical Lo fashion, she giggled and replied no, although she admitted she was asked to.

For me, I’m just really not that interested in going down that rabbit hole…reality TV was an interesting experience,” she told Menounos. “I’m acutely aware of the platform it has provided for me, and I feel extremely fortunate to have the experience because I have this life now because of it. I don’t know these people who are on the show-I know them, but I don’t have a relationship with any of them.”

RELATED: Science Says Medical Marijuana Improves Quality Of Life

Menounos even asked if Lo would change her mind if Lauren said yes to the show, but without hesitation she still replied no and said she has no interest in reality TV anymore, which, TBH, good for her! She hasn’t talked to former pals like Audrina in years (you can hear more about that below).

Things To Make Time At The Office More Bearable

Summer is great for many reasons. It creates the opportunity for long walks, trips to the beach, bathing suits, pool parties and more. But one of the downsides of the season is the fact that the office remains an office, and no matter the weather, work doesn’t stop. Summer makes it a little harder to slave away considering all the fun things that are outdoors, just a few steps away. Here are things to make time at the office more bearable this summer.

Make a summer playlist

https://giphy.com/gifs/qutisuYBaGfFC

RELATED: Exercising In The Summer Can Burn More Calories And Build Muscle

Some days you have to stay in your office even if you’re done with work. Transform these highly annoying moments into an awesome summer playlist. While making playlists sounds a little lame and OCD, this is a quietly entertaining hobby that distracts you and consumes a lot of time. Your masterpiece playlist can be listened to at home, with some friends or as a welcome distraction from smelly summery commutes.

Set some fitness goals

https://giphy.com/gifs/love-gift-cheap-gdM6D5CAc1puw

Summer is the best opportunity to push yourself to work out harder. Take advantage of the weather and the heat and try working out at least once a week outdoors, making you sweat a lot and burn more calories. Use the fact that days appear to be longer to your advantage, pushing yourself to wake up earlier and visit the gym.

Switch up your lunches

https://giphy.com/gifs/stephen-curry-gsw-riley-zM6riRWsZmTiE

The new season means that there’s plenty of new ingredients you can use to make delicious foods. If you’re not the best cook, take this chance to save some money by preparing your own meals and learning a thing or two about cooking. Home cooked lunches are healthier and usually better than whatever fast thing you buy on your lunch break.

Go outside for breaks

RELATED: Here’s Why You Should Never Refreeze Melted Ice Cream

A large amount of employees prefer to skip over lunch breaks in order to get their work done faster and hopefully go home earlier. While this works in the short term, studies show that people who take regular lunch breaks are more productive in the long run, giving their brains a rest and preventing burn out. If you don’t want to spend money on outside food, use your lunch break for a walk or have your home cooked meal while sitting in a nearby park.

Ice cream!

Another great thing about summer is the fact that you can comfortably eat ice cream without freezing your face off. Any frozen treat is a go since these make great bonding activities between co-workers and, unlike alcohol, don’t result in anything embarrassing.

Hope these things to make time at the office more bearable this summer helps!

Who Pays For Meghan Markle’s Outfits

It may seem like one of the perks of being a royal is all the free stuff — dinners, trips, jewelry, designer clothes. So who pays for Meghan Markle’s outfits? That gorgeous gown Meghan Markle wore for her engagement photos? She bought that herself. Same with her wedding gown. That’s right. She bought her own wedding gown.

Cosmopolitan did a deep-dive on the royals and their fashion allowance and the results are quite surprising to anyone who thought “freebie” was automatically printed on royal receipts.

They found that when up until Markle exchanged wedding vows with Prince Harry, she bought all of her own clothes.

“Nothing was covered by the royal family funds, unless she borrowed Prince Harry’s sweater and that’s sort of cheating! So then, this $75,000 Ralph and Russo gown she wore for her engagement pictures? Meghan paid for that herself.

It was also reported that she paid for her custom Givenchy wedding gown, which cost over $100,000—with some sources estimating it was as much as $265,000.”

Also of note, at the time, Markle was worth a cool $7 million (let’s not forget she was a celebrity long before she met Harry), so it’s not like she broke the bank paying for those gowns. Girl’s got money.

RELATED: Some People Are Mocking Kate Middleton For This Questionable Fashion Faux Pas

The same scenario echoes for Kate Middleton. It’s reported her family paid for her $200,000 wedding dress back in 2011, which is now estimated to be worth over $400,000. But just like her sister-in-law, the Duchess can also afford her penchant for expensive clothes once in awhile. Says Cosmo:

“Even though Kate Middleton is technically a ‘commoner,’ that doesn’t mean her family doesn’t have money. Kate herself is worth around $10 million, and the company her family owns is reportedly worth $5o million. So she can afford designer threads too.”

It wasn’t until Kate and Meghan officially became royals that they gained access to the royal checkbook.

RELATED: Here’s How Much Money Prince William Makes

According to Cosmo, nearly $5 million was split between Will, Kate, and Harry in 2017 “to fund their public lives, which includes salaries, office costs, and other expenses, like clothes.” The amount went up to $6.5 million to accommodate Meghan once she became the Duchess of Sussex this past year.

You’d think for as famous as they all are, fashion houses would be throwing free designer labels at The Royal Palace, right?

But as Kim Kardashian found out when she tried to send Kate a pair of custom made “Duchess” heels for her 30th birthday back in 2012, royals can’t accept unsolicited gifts.

RELATED: The Surprising Kate Middleton And Kim Kardashian Connection

But what they are allowed to do is to request clothes from designers and send back whatever they don’t wear. Sort of like when you go to your favorite department store and return two-thirds of the items you purchased the next day, once you realize you don’t look half as good in your home mirror as you did in the dressing room. It’s just like that, but without the price tags or bad lighting.

This Week’s Music: Caroline Polachek, Jonas Brothers And Mark Ronson

This Week’s Music is a weekly column that discusses the week’s best, worst, and most interesting songs. We try to select songs of different artists and genres to keep things interesting and to please a variety of music fans.

This week’s column features Caroline Polachek’s first single, the wildest Reggaeton and Pop combination you can think of and the release of Mark Ronson’s much awaited record. Have a listen!

Indie

Caroline Polachek – Door

Caroline Polachek known for her work with Beyonce, her performances in the band Chairlift and her work under the pseudonym Ramona Lisa, is an artist that’s always in flux. “Door” is the first single released under her own name and, like herself, is filled with layers. The chorus, where the line “to another door” is repeated eight freaking times is surreal and loopy, providing relief the second the beat changes and a new lyric is uttered. It’s a great song that promises an interesting and complex record.

Raggaeton

Sebastian Yatra, Daddy Yankee, Natti Natasha and The Jonas Brothers – Runaway

RELATED: This Week’s Music: Taylor Swift, Jai Paul And The Chemical Brothers

If 10 years ago you would have told me that the boys from “Camp Rock” would be singing a song in Spanglish with Daddy Yankee, I would have laughed. But it’s 2019 and after “Despacito” the world is a smaller place. Everything, at least in terms of music, is possible. “Runaway” is a strange yet fun mish-mash, one that surprisingly kind of works.

Pop

Mark Ronson and King Princess – Pieces of Us

Mark Ronson’s “Late Night Feelings” has been very hyped up and it’s easy to understand why. The musician and producer has compiled singers from all sorts of styles in order to come up with a record that’s all about heartbreak with an edge of fun and dance. Among his collaborators are Alicia Keys, Miley Cyrus, King Princess, Lykke Li and Angel Olsen. It’s a record that can be listened to a million times and that pairs well with all sorts of moods.

Dogs Of Instagram: Afghan Hound

One of the most striking breeds is also one of the oldest. According to an ancient myth, the Afghan hound represents the dogdom on Noah’s Arc. Famous for its long, flowing locks, the Afghan hound is a stunning and regal beauty. Take that coat off and you’ll see a strong, agile hound standing as tall as 27 inches at the shoulder. Massive paws make it the perfect dog for withstanding a long day on tough terrain. While not for everybody, with the right owner, the Afghan makes the perfect pet.

Here, we find five of the most dignified Afghan Hounds of Instagram.

Why Prince Philip Is Not King Of England

It’s an important question: Why isn’t Queen Elizabeth’s husband considered the King of England? As with most royal protocol, the reason is a little murky, relying on patriarchal tradition and not always common sense.

Prince Philip is referred to as a prince for a reason.

According to the official website of the British royal family, when it comes to titles, it’s about bloodline, pure and simple. And the laws are applied differently for men and women. (Hat tip to Reader’s Digest for supplying this handy guide to the current line of succession). When a male in the royal bloodline marries, his wife takes whatever is the female form of his title. It’s why when Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, married Kate Middleton, she became Duchess of Cambridge (aka Princess William of Wales).

RELATED: Could Meghan Markle Ever Actually Become Queen?

But when a man marries into the royal bloodline, he’s not allowed to take on his wife’s title. Like in the case of Princess Eugenie, who got hitched last October. Her husband, Jack Brooksbank, remains “Mr. Jack Brooksbank”, however, Eugenie got a title change, becoming Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie, Mrs. Jack Brooksbank.

According to Town & Country

“In much the same way, grandchildren born to the sons of the monarch receive the title of prince or princess, but those born to the daughters of a monarch don’t. In the case of the family of Prince and Princess William of Wales: Prince George’s children will automatically be princes and princesses; Princess Charlotte’s kids will not (unless, of course, a tragedy upends the British line to the throne).”

RELATED: This Is Why Kate Middleton And Meghan Markle Are Not Called ‘Princess’

Lucy Hume, an expert on the royal rankings, tells Town & Country that “Royal titles are inherited through sons, so if Princess Charlotte has children they would not automatically inherit the titles ‘HRH,’ ‘Prince,’ or ‘Princess.'”

Another fun fact from Reader’s Digest: Prince Philip was actually born a prince to Greek and Danish royal families, but renounced his title in order to marry Elizabeth. On the eve of the wedding, we was designated His Royal Highness, the Duke of Edinburgh, a title he still retains.

How Junk Food Cravings Work And How To Resist

We’ve all them and they make us want to throw away most of our boring and healthy habits. It starts the moment you decide you want to start off the week correctly by eating plenty of proteins and veggies. Two days later you’re hit by vicious junk food and sweet longings resulting in binging. Here is how junk food cravings work and how to resist.

Men’s Health spoke with two neuroscientists who explained that there’s four stages to fatty food cravings. The first part of this cycle begins with the urge to have junk food, which can be triggered by a McDonald’s commercial, a comment from a friend or walking past Burger King. Your reward-focused areas begin to feel some stimulation from dopamine and opioids neurochemicals.

RELATED: Here Are 5 Junk Foods You Can Eat Without Feeling Guilty

The second part of the cycle starts when the process becomes physical, pulling in your orbitofrontal cortex into the mix, who works hard to remind you of all those delicious junk foods you’ve had in the past. Part three involves decision making, and it’s the moment when your self-control checks in or doesn’t. Your dorsolateral prefrontal cortex begins to make calculations; how bad can it be to have this junk food? If you are hungry or sleepy you’ve basically lost this battle already.

The fourth and final stage of the cycle is when you take a bite of the food, which will trigger all of your senses and make it really hard to resist eating an entire box of fries.

Here are some recommendations that’ll help you battle through these stages and train your body against these cravings.

The sooner you intervene the better

https://giphy.com/gifs/how-i-met-your-mother-cbs-LMUOHJCNPvN4I

Don’t wait until you’re taking a bite of the burger to second-guess your decision. The easiest way to avoid eating junk food is to detect the cycle explained above early, checking in the minute you get the craving and making plans. Distract yourself by walking around, watching something engaging or doing some work. Try to get involved in an activity that demands some brain power in order to distract yourself more successfully.

Put barriers between you and your craving

https://giphy.com/gifs/funny-reaction-satan-GUsDe2LtZbzIQ

If you walk or drive past a fast food place on your way back from school or work, take a different route and avoid the building. In your house, hide sweets and fatty foods in places that are not easily found. Just don’t take it too far and end up with a rodent infestation.

Focus on the downsides of having that junk food

RELATED: 3 Tips That’ll Help You Eat Junk Food Without Dying

According to brain imaging studies, it helps if you picture your junk food in a disgusting place, like over a filthy floor. These exercises make you second guess your decisions and reconsider having a bite of the food.

Train your discipline

https://giphy.com/gifs/mtvawards-2018-red-carpet-ONrtXvfuTu3TXnXb19

When it comes to long term practices that can help you prevent cravings, studies have found that regular work out sessions strengthen your dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, making your brain stronger and strengthening your discipline.
