Ben Affleck Posts Loving Mom’s Day Post Featuring Jen Garner; Britney Spears Joins Social Media Movement To Free Her

Britney Spears has joined the social media movement to free her

Via TMZ:

Britney Spears has joined the social media movement to free her from her conservatorship, and she told the judge as much Friday when she was in court.

Sources with direct knowledge tell TMZ, Britney has done an about-face, now telling the judge her father, Jamie Spears, committed her to a mental health facility a month ago against her will and also forced her to take drugs. We’re also told Lynne Spears’ lawyer echoed the allegation.

Britney wants more freedom and asked the judge for certain adjustments … but didn’t get them. Sources tell us Britney would like to end the conservatorship, which has been operating for 11-plus years.

The judge took no action and has ordered an expert to evaluate Britney and until that happens there will be no change in the conservatorship … but it has clearly created a family war.

Via Celebitchy:

Ben Affleck made a post for Mother’s Day featuring a paparazzi photo of his mother out with his ex wife, Jennifer Garner. The caption called them “the two incredible mothers who have shown me the meaning of love” and mentioned that he was donating to two causes, both for incarcerated mothers.

Infusing Drinks With Cannabis Drops

For those like to drink in their cannabis but don’t like the taste of cannabis or the slightly oily residue often left behind when using oil-based cannabis tinctures, welcome to the world of water soluble cannabis drops. They are a clear liquid with no taste that can be added into coffees, teas, sodas, water, beer, ciders, cocktails, or mocktails without disrupting the texture or taste.

Water Soluble CBD Drops

Southern Oregon based East Fork Cultivars has been one of the leaders if creating Water Soluble CBD (WSC). This represents the byproduct of four years of R&D to create a highly bioavailable, water soluble, shelf stable CBD. They developed the perfect blend of their USDA certified organic craft hemp extract with just three other ingredients: vegetable glycerine, spring water and lemon extract.

CBD affects people differently depending on their individual endocannabinoid receptors. It is also biphasic, which means that it can have very different effects depending on the dosage. At very small doses, CBD can make one feel slightly more awake and focused, while at larger doses, it can make one feel lightly sedated. This means that every person will need to do a little experimentation to figure out what their own ideal dose range is. Start out with about 10 mg per serving and then work up (or down) from there.

Currently, water soluble CBD drops can be found as an add-in at tea houses, coffee houses, and brewpubs. For example, in Portland, Oregon. East Fork Cultivar’s CBD drops are available at Townshend’s Teahouses and Coalition Brewing. At Townshends, those 18 and over can add a shot of CBD to their tea or kombucha beverage.

Certified Hazy IPA is a beer that represents a collaboration between Coalition Brewing and East Fork Cultivars, is a celebration of cannabidiol education and a nod to East Fork’s profound education initiative, CBD Certified. Over the past year, East Fork Cultivars has been delivering comprehensive CBD education via CBD Certified to thousands of cannabis and hemp professionals, the general public, and to CBD leaders like Coalition Brewing.

For those who like to add a shot of CBD to their drinks at home, East Fork’s one ounce CBD drops are available at any New Seasons Market location with plans to make these drops available for sale online.

As the CBD market continues to explode, expect to see a massive rise in these drops available at tea houses, coffee shops, brew pubs, and retail outlets, as well as available for purchase online.

Water Soluble THC Drops

While all the buzz appears to be centering around CBD drinks, there are those who would prefer a shot of THC in their beverage. Here companies like SōRSE Technology have designed products like Pearl2O, a THC/CBD “creative water” used to infuse drinks at home.

Be mindful that products containing alcohol and THC cannot be sold at any brewpub, tea house, coffee houses or grocery stores. However, they can be purchased at a dispensary in those states where recreational cannabis is legal.

Weed And Infertility: Should Men Worry About Their Marijuana Consumption?

Fair warning to men in relationships eager to conceive with their partner: Smoking cannabis could have an adverse effect on your reproductive health. While the conclusions are far from definitive, mounting evidence suggests the best practice might be to forego the green while trying to have a baby.

A new study out of Brazil, and published in AUA Journals’ The Journal of Urology, tested 622 sperm samples from men of various lifestyles. Researchers evaluated the sperm of men who regularly smoked cigarettes, others who were known to be fertile, some regular cannabis consumers, and participants they knew were infertile.

Their conclusions found those who commonly used marijuana saw their sperm significantly drop in quality. Out of all the groups, the sperm of known cannabis users was most comparable to swimmers of infertile men.

“Overall, the marijuana group had semen quality equivalent to the infertile group, with the exception of higher ROS and DNA damage than infertile men,” study co-author Dr. Jorge Hallak told Medpage Today. “DNA damage is higher in all groups (marijuana users, smokers, and infertile men) as compared to controls, but higher levels were found in the marijuana group and infertile men.”

In addition, the sperm of marijuana smokers had erratic or unusual sperm cell size and shape, as well as sluggish swimmers. Sperm counts were also down among marijuana smokers when compared to control groups.

“Both marijuana and tobacco are deleterious for testicular function but marijuana caused more sperm functional defects than tobacco, mediated by excess intracellular ROS generation,” the paper concluded.

Scientists at Duke University found similar results of reduced sperm count and abnormal sperm when studying reproductive health of marijuana users last year. Our own medical expert Dr. Jordan Tishler also previously wrote when examining medical literature how marijuana affects male sperm, “The bad news (if you want to become a father) is that marijuana appears to have negative effects on sperm count, sperm morphology, and sperm motility—all of which are important for getting pregnant.”

Here’s perhaps a simple way of thinking about all this: If you’re trying to conceive, it’s probably best to lay off the weed.

This Week’s Music: The National, Carly Rae Jepsen And Justin Bieber

This Week’s Music is a weekly column that discusses the week’s best, worst, and most interesting songs. We try to select songs of different artists and genres to keep things interesting and to please a variety of music fans.

This week’s column features The National’s new song, Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Too Much,” and Justin Bieber & Ed Sheeran’s collaboration. Check them out!

Rock

The National – Hairpin Turns

With their new album’s release date approaching, The National has been releasing songs set to remarkable music videos. “Hairpin Turns” is thoughtful and pensive, a feeling that is accurately represented in the music video, which is directed by filmmaker and musician Mike Mills. In it, the band members are performing the song in isolation, showing us all the pieces that make up the song in a way that’s completely unique. The upcoming album is called “I Am Easy To Find,” and it’ll be released on May 17.

Pop

Carly Rae Jepsen – Too Much

RELATED: This Week’s Music: Rhye, Banks And Vampire Weekend

“Too Much” is the fifth song from Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Dedicated,” her upcoming album. It stays in tune with her style, dripping with excess and emotion, but it also shows a different make up and production than the other songs that are part of “Dedicated,” at least the ones we’ve heard.”Too Much” wears the influence of other genres more openly, showing us a different side of a singer who’s so comfortable in her style that her songs can blur together. This single is the most distinct among the five songs she’s released during the past couple of months.

Justin Bieber & Ed Sheeran – I Don’t Care

Justin Bieber and Ed Sheeran’s second contribution is produced by Max Martin, who’s worked on Ariana Grande’s last records and with millions of other pop artists. His spark and effervescence is completely lost on “I Don’t Care,” a song about bad parties and social anxiety that’s tepid and boring. Still, the quality of the song didn’t stop it from breaking all sorts of Spotify records.

Science Shows Anxiety And Stress Reduced By Cannabis

Cannabis strains that were low THC/high CBD were the best choice for reducing symptoms of depression. High THC/high CBD was best for stress reduction.

What if a scientific report was released that showed that marijuana helped to significantly reduce depression, anxiety and stress? Could that be enough to convince those who would oppose the herb? We will see because that is exactly what has been published by a Canadian data and analytics company based on a large population of patients.

Strainprint is a mobile app intended to change the way that medical marijuana patients track and select their cannabis strains. Acting as an amped up dosing journal, the Strainprint app encourages patients to select up to three medical conditions they seek to remedy with cannabis. The users then enter the strain they are using, when, in what amounts and, most importantly, perceived effectiveness. This creates a data point for both user and anonymously to physicians to determine how to maximize outcomes.

Data is king and the folks at Strainprint know this. They intend to do more than provide purchasing guidance for patients as is evidenced by this latest study of over 11,000 user sessions and their outcomes.

RELATEd: Stress Can Kill You: Marijuana Can Help Kill Stress

Users reported a “50 percent reduction in depression and a 58 percent reduction in anxiety and stress following cannabis use.” Dosing can be a challenging and somewhat subjective measurement when it comes to smoking. Researchers asked users how many “puffs” they took. Two puffs were sufficient to reduce ratings of depression and anxiety, while 10+ puffs produced the greatest perceived reductions in stress.”

Since the company is interested not simply in the efficacy of cannabis but which strains or chemovars had particular effects, there was more detail to be had. They reported that cannabis strains that were low THC/high CBD were the best choice for reducing symptoms of depression. High THC/high CBD was best for stress reduction.

It was not all good news for cannabis enthusiasts, however. Over time, the patients using cannabis for depression experienced a gradual exacerbation of symptoms. They got worse. But data like this does not exist in a bubble. Researchers at the University of Buffalo have already shown in animal models that chronic stress is a major contributor to depression-like symptoms. So, for some forms of depression, it could be just what the doctor ordered, so to speak. It’s too early to know for certain.

One thing we can bank on is more collective data research like this one. The gathering of data from customers is just beginning to integrate itself into loyalty and customer reward programs at retail marijuana stores throughout. The increasing number of brands showing up at trade shows reflects the value of the information that will be collected about all of us.

In the case of this study from Strainprint, the consumer is able to benefit from the information exchanged, as can professional healthcare providers seeking data-based guidance in this brave new world of legal weed.

Average American Hasn’t Made A New Friend In Over 5 Years

New research says that the average American hasn’t made a new friend in over five years. Around half of the people surveyed say that this problem is due to shyness and other commitments that take up people’s time.

The study, conducted by OnePoll and Evite, claims that the average American’s popularity peaks at the age of 23. For 36% of participants it peaks even earlier, before the age of 21.

Around half of the people surveyed said that they would love to have more friends and meet new people, but that shyness and discomfort within new social situations and circles prevented them from achieving this. Scenarios like stressful bar scenes and feeling like everyone’s friend group is already established were brought up regularly. Other interesting results as to why adults have trouble making new friends include commitments to family members, not having hobbies that allow them to meet new people and moving to new cities.

“For the 45 percent who are looking to make new friends, the best and most underrated way to do that these days is still in-person. You can host a party, or something more low-key like book club or happy hour, and tell each of your guests to bring a friend,” recommends a specialist from Evite. “You’ll be surprised at how naturally social circles can come together, and at the lasting connections you can make when bonding face-to-face.”

RELATED: This Is How Many Hours It Takes To Make A New Friend

When it comes to maintaining friendships, researchers say that people need to create the time and space for their friends, scheduling appointments every two weeks or even once a year if they live in different countries.

Other interesting and kind of sad data says that the average adult has 16 friends. Three of them have been around for most of their lives, five of them are friends who they’re capable of spending alone time with, and the remaining eight are friends they like but wouldn’t seek out for one on one time.

Is Prince Harry’s Archie Named After A Cat

Is Prince Harry’s Archie named after a cat? It was not a name most people expected Meghan Markle and Prince Harry to pick for their newborn son. Formally known as Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor (Prince Archie would be so much easier to say), the royal bundle of Sussex (that’s a legit title, right?) was born Monday morning, photographed for the entire world to see just days later. The kid’s name took a backseat to the sight of the blessed child.

Pro to the birth, the most famous Archie is also a redhead, Archie Andrews. Until now.

A theory is being tossed around (we see you, Prince George!) that Meghan named her son after a beloved pet cat named Archie that got fat after she fed it too many frozen grapes. There’s a lot to unpack in that sentence, so take your time.

RELATED: Baby Sussex Is Already Rich. Here’s His Estimated Worth

A former close friend of Meghan told The Sun that Meghan and her mom rescued the cat and named him Archie, after the Archie comic Meghan apparently collected as a child. Says this friend:

“Doria rescued Archie and he became an important part of the household. Meghan loved playing with him and she was always talking about him to her friends.”

“It’s no surprise she named her new baby Archie. She loved that cat,” added the friend.

Sadly, the cat died while Meghan was in college. He was fed up (sorry).

It could be argued that Archie was a nod to one of Princess Diana’s Scottish ancestors, Archibald Campbell, the 9th Earl of Argyll. But it’s way more fun to think the seventh in line for the throne shares a moniker with a fat feline, no?

CBD Oil For Wellness: Why Not All Doctors Are Buying The Hype

Reportedly first used to help ease Queen Victoria’s menstrual cramps back in the 1800s, CBD is now available to the masses, popping up in restaurants, bars, cosmetic counters and even big retail chains across the country. Since cannabidiol (CBD) is the non-psychoactive part of the cannabis plant and doesn’t get you high like THC, it’s been a pretty no-brainer component of lots of food, beverages, and lotions. It pretty much markets itself.

More frequently, CBD is making its way into spa treatments to help alleviate the muscle tension and everyday aches and pains associated with an active lifestyle.

New York City massage therapist Demetri Travlos tells CBS News that “CBD is great for relieving inflammation and pain and it’s also good for relaxation and reduction of anxiety and stress.”

Personal trainer Breanna Arrington told CBS News that she turned to CBD massages to help an injured hip after physical therapy failed her. “An injury will definitely not only not allow me to do my ‘job-job’, but also it takes a little bit of me away, a little bit of me dies,” she said.

She now gets bi-monthly massages with CBD-infused creams and says it’s worked wonders. “I’m back doing the things that I like to do, back at Taekwondo, back lifting, using my body in dynamic ways.”

But some doctors aren’t this stoked on the chemical, saying all of these “healing” claims lack scientific back-up.

“We are still at the beginning of trying to understand what CBD does in the body,” Dr. Margaret Haney from Columbia University Medical Center told CBS News. Haney, who is well-known for her cannabis research, says there’s still many unanswered questions, like if CBD gets absorbed, how it’s acting, and what dose one needs. “I need placebo-controlled evidence to be convinced,” she said.

Haney and other experts say anyone who is currently using CBD or is interested in its touted benefits should know that while products containing CBD are legal in all 50 states, it’s not regulated by the FDA.

CBS News cites a 2017 study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association that found 70 percent of the 84 CBD products tested were mislabeled.

“You’re really flying by the seat of your pants when you buy this stuff,” Marcel Bonn-Miller, Ph.D., of the University of Pennsylvania, told the Associated Press, adding, “I wouldn’t trust any of it until I knew independently it was safe.”
