MedMen Acquires Woodstock Name To License Cannabis Products

MedMen just can’t stop making marquee business moves. Recently the cannabis dispensary chain announced that Jay-Z Roc Nation partner was joining their Board of Directors. Then it was revealed that MedMen outperformed Apple and Google in some key first quarterly return figures in California. Oh, and the shop claimed a highly desirable retail space on Manhattan’s hallowed Fifth Avenue.

Now, MedMen announced in a press release that the company has acquired an exclusive license for the Woodstock name. The deal was made through Woodstock Ventures and the Woodstock Cannabis Company and gives MedMen the right to manufacture and distribute Woodstock branded products in six states: Arizona, Nevada, Florida, California, Illinois, and Massachusetts.

“We’ve been looking for the right partner—one with our values and our quality standards. When we were introduced to MedMen, we knew that our search was over,” Michael Lang and Joel Rosenman, co-producers of the 1969 Woodstock Festival and all Woodstock reunion festivals, said in a press release. “They are tireless innovators of new products who never lose sight of the number one focus for both of our companies—quality.”

Should Woodstock decide to enter markets in other states, MedMen will also have licensing control there as well. The company will also be given premiere representation at any future Woodstock reunion festivals and events. Though MedMen only has stores in New York, California, and Nevada, the agreement also allows them to sell Woodstock branded products through third-party retailers in the other states listed in the agreement.

“The Woodstock festival marked the height of the 1960s counter-culture movement,” MedMen Co-founder and CEO Adam Bierman said in a release. “As a brand, MedMen is all about pushing the boundaries and bringing about progressive change to make marijuana use part of the mainstream, so this partnership between MedMen and Woodstock makes perfect sense. It will help us reach a broad audience of consumers who are familiar with marijuana use, and ready to discover new products and ways to incorporate cannabis into their lives.”

Apple Doesn’t Know What To Name Its 2018 Smartphones

Apple’s September product unveiling is getting closer and closer, ticking like a time bomb for a company that’s introducing three new smartphones that still don’t have a name.

While some analysts have suggested that Apple was planning on getting rid of the iPhone X entirely, creating new and cheaper devices in the meantime, a report from Bloomberg claims that the company is doing just the opposite, taking inspiration from the iPhone X and releasing three phones that borrow heavily on it. The original iPhone X didn’t sell as well as Apple had expected, but it did have some features that inspired the tech world, such as Face ID and it’s notchless design, which are supposed to be incorporated in all of Apple’s 2018 smartphones.

The report from Bloomberg claims that 2018 will be an S year for Apple, meaning that the new phones will be different iterations of previous devices, and that big changes will occur next year. Cue the eye roll, because that’s what Apple promises every year.

Apple is also planning on switching up their long term strategy. Instead of luring in new customers by offering dazzling features, they’re trying to keep their old and faithful users happy by developing an operating software with fewer bugs and batteries that don’t get damaged when your phone gets old. The company is also working hard to develop other aspects of their business aside from their smartphone sales, focusing on their Apple Watches, AirPods, and subscription services like Apple Music.

Another issue that Apple is reportedly having trouble with is naming their devices. Bloomberg reports that several names have been thrown around, including the “iPhone Xs” for their most expensive smartphone, suggesting that it’s an upgrade from last year’s iPhone X. Apple supposedly wants to avoid tacking on the “Plus” label onto their new phones, a big thing they’ve been doing since 2014, and doesn’t really know what to do in terms of differentiating each device now that all of them are iterations of the iPhone X and aren’t continuations of the iPhone 8.

We’ll have to wait until next month to see these new iPhone names, which we’re sure will be just as generic as the names that all other established smartphone companies come up with.

This Bill Would Make It Legal To Ingest Cannabis On California Campuses

A bill regarding children and cannabis was passed Monday and is on its way to California Governor Jerry Brown. It would allow some youth with certain medical conditions to be administered cannabis on campus, as long as it’s given to them by their parents.

In California, the law has allowed medical use somewhat since medicinal marijuana was barely a thing, but parents had to meet the child off premises or take them out of school in order to administer the medication. This new bill has its strict points, too, though.

The cannabis must be in non-smokable or vapable form, so it has to be a tincture, oil, capsule or other infusion to be utilized on campus and, naturally, the kid needs to have a medical marijuana script in order to take it. A bit of rub is that schools will have the option to participate in the guidelines outlined in the bill or to keep status quo.

The teenager who inspired the bill had up to and over 50 seizures a day before the parents discovered medical marijuana. And in Santa Rosa, a kindergarten age child is allowed, by court order, to bring her cannabis oil with her to school to prevent further seizures caused by a rare disorder.

Cannabis as a medication is becoming more and more normalized as more states topple into the green shade and children with serious disorders are benefitting from it. No person should have to suffer 50 seizures a day, and especially not after a doctor has found and prescribed a medication that works.

The fact that more states and more children aren’t able to medicate and be well still boils down to cannabis being a Schedule I drug at the federal level. Under that definition, the plant is defined as having no medical usages, to be of high potential for abuse and is illegal at the federally.

State after state is paving its own way with compassionate cannabis laws, but until cannabis is re- or descheduled, there will still be hurdles to jump, bills to pass and laws to change. But that’s what this movement was founded upon. Getting the very sick well, keeping them out of jail and making the forward progress to ensure it happens is at the heart of medical marijuana.

This new bill is a brave one and it sends a message to the powers that be: cannabis is indeed medicine, it’s saving lives from the depths of fear and illness and catapulting them into the healthier, much more comfortable states of being.

Illinois Governor Allows Medical Marijuana As Opioid Alternative

Illinois patients who are prescribed opioid painkillers now have permission to use medical marijuana as an alternative. Governor Bruce Rauner recently signed an expansion measure to the state’s four-year pilot program, adding opioid abuse disorder to its list of qualified conditions.

It is a move that is predicted to pull in thousands more patients and give the local cannabis trade a much needed economic boost. Many cannabis firms anticipated that Rauner would support the addition of this “debilitating medical condition” and have already invested into building new facilities and hiring more people to handle the increased workload.

The overall message is that the medical marijuana trade in the Land of Lincoln is about to experience major growth.

However, Rauner’s decision to sign the bill does not appear to be economically driven. His reelection campaign has centered on the prevention of opioid overdose deaths throughout the state. Some of the latest data shows that roughly 2,000 people statewide suffered a fatal overdose from prescription painkillers in 2016. That number increased by 13 percent last year, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health.

“Opioid abuse disorder is taking the lives of Illinoisans, thousands of lives. Opioid abuse disorder is disrupting and destroying families across our state and across the country,” Governor Rauner told those in attendance of a signing ceremony at the Chicago Recovery Alliance on the city’s west side. “We’ve got to do everything we can to stop this vicious epidemic, and today, I’m proud to sign a bill that helps us stop this epidemic.”

But the bill does not just provide an opportunity for opioid users to tunnel out of addictive behavior — it also provides a safer choice for future pain patients. So, if a doctor has or could prescribe opioids for an injury, they can provide their patient with a certification to use medical marijuana instead. Rauner said, “Medical cannabis creates an opportunity to treat pain in a less intrusive, less obstructive way than opioids.”

Rauner has been somewhat apprehensive in the past about giving the state’s medical marijuana program enough leash to become a lucrative supplement to healthcare. But he has progressed in his opinions over the last couple of years. Still, this does not mean that he is warming up to the idea of legalization marijuana for recreational use. He is not.

“I am very much opposed to legalizing recreational marijuana. But it’s clear from the research, and I prefer to focus on evidence and research results,” Rauner told reporters, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. “It’s clear that medical cannabis treats pain effectively, and it is less addictive and less disruptive than opioids. Creating that option is an important step forward to improve health quality, and that’s why I signed the bill.”

In addition to the new qualified condition, the new law effectively eliminates the state’s fingerprinting and background checks for new patients. Now, anyone with a certification from a state-licensed physician can simply apply online and use the temporary receipt to gain access to a dispensary, said Illinois Department of Public Health Director Dr. Nirav Shah.

Angelina Jolie Is ‘Out For Blood’ In Her Divorce From Brad Pitt; Is Ed Sheeran Secretly Married?

ANGELINA JOLIE WANTS TO ‘PUNISH’ BRAD PITT FOR ‘GETTING PHYSICAL’ WITH MADDOX

Angelina Jolie is “out for blood” in her divorce from Brad Pitt and things have turned nasty simply because she does not like him anymore and knows the relationship is over. According to our sources, Jolie is “out for blood” in her battle for custody and support from Pitt. We’re told she wants to “embarrass and punish” him and she fights the subject with anyone around her that suggests that Brad is actually a good father who deserves to see his kids half the time.

We’re told part of Jolie’s shopping around town for a new attorney is because she wants to find a legal team that wants to fight. As The Blast first reported, Brad Pitt has tried to keep this battle private and believes Angelina Jolie’s decision to make things public is bad for the children.

People close to Jolie believe that while she is a champion for children and does so much for charity, it’s striking that she won’t listen to her confidantes when it comes to her own kids. When this all began, people around her agreed that Angelina had the high ground after Brad Pitt infamously overreacted while intoxicated several years ago and got physical with Maddox. But it has has been over two years and Brad has proven he isn’t an abusive father who should not be around his kids.

SECRETLY MARRIED? ED SHEERAN HAS HINTED THAT HE HAS SECRETLY TIED THE KNOT

Ed Sheeran has hinted that he has secretly tied the knot with fiancée Cherry Seaborn, as he coyly ‘points to his ring’ in an interview with Access.

The 27-year-old British singer appeared to admit he would ‘never do anything public’ if he married his long-term girlfriend, blushing as he pointed to a ring on his wedding finger.

In the interview, Ed was asked: ‘What about the wedding details? Have you picked a date? Do you know where? Do you know when yet?’ Instead of refusing to answer, the Perfect singer stumbled over a response, before shrugging and pointing to his wedding finger which boasted a silver ring. Assuming this meant he had married Cherry, the interviewer said: ‘ah right,’ before laughing.

They then said: ‘That’s exciting! Congratulations my friend! Congratulations! How did you sneak that one?’ Ed responded: ‘Well I never do anything too public anyway.’

VOGUE MAGAZINE HAS DONE A GLAMOROUS PHOTO SHOOT AND PUBLISHED A TELL-ALL INTERVIEW WITH STORMY DANIELS!

BY THE TIME I knock on the door of Stormy Daniels’s room at the Roger Smith Hotel, a drab brown-brick tower in east midtown, she’s been holed up in New York for 24 hours, waiting to talk to prosecutors in the criminal investigation into President Trump’s former lawyer Michael Cohen. Lately, if Daniels takes more than a couple days off from her highly publicized nationwide strip-club tour, people assume she is at her home outside Dallas. “I’d bet by tomorrow afternoon there will be people at my house,” Daniels tells me as she settles down in the center of an oversize gray sofa. I sit across from her, on a faded upholstered armchair. Between us are a tawny Oriental rug and a table set with a pot of coffee and a spread of pastries in a striped Financier Patisserie box. The people she means—paparazzi and men in red trucker hats who want her to stop talking about her alleged affair with the president—began circling last spring when Daniels decided to take on Trump. In doing so she became globally known by a single name: Stormy, the unlikely, embattled symbol of our tempestuous times.

Game Of Thrones Might Be Killing Your Sex Life

0

Next time you invite your crush over to “Netflix and chill,” make sure you both understand the concept, because some couples are literally icing out their intimacy in favor of TV. yes, Game of Thrones might be killing your sex life.

According to new research that examined the correlation between television ownership and  frequency of sex — using data from nearly 4 million individuals in 80 countries — TV seems to have replaced sex as the favorite past time for some couples.

…while television may not kill your sex life, it is associated with some sex life morbidity. Under our most conservative estimate, we find that television ownership is associated with approximately a 6% reduction in the likelihood of having had sex in the past week, consistent with a small degree of substitutability between television viewing and sexual activity.

The study found that “household wealth and reproductive health knowledge” do not appear to be driving this association.

Researchers specifically call out shows that start late at night, like ‘Game of Thrones,” saying programs that start at 10 p.m. or later cut into an entirely different type of entertainment.

It’s also worth noting that these results are from 2010, way before Netflix binging became a thing. Basically, it’s safe to say Game of Thrones might be killing your sex life…along with streaming movies.

Get this. One of 10 people, according to The Telegraph in the UK, check their phones during sex. On the one hand, that sounds nuts. On the other, is anyone surprised?

According to an Italian sex research study, having a TV in the bedroom kills off marital sex by half. And this was a study back in 2006, before Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime killed off the other half. And this was a study of Italian couples, a nation renowned for its sexual hyperactivity. Just imagine what TV is doing to American married couples.

Marijuana Legislative Roundup for August 20

It was an eventful week for cannabis reform on several fronts with our marijuana legislative roundup for August 20th. Alaska and Oregon are considering legalizing marijuana consumption lounges, Denver licensing its second social-use venue, and legalization failing to make the November ballot in Oklahoma. You can read about all that and more in this week’s roundup!

Oregon

A state lawmaker in the lower house of the Oregon legislature announced last week that he is preparing legislation to allow social-use lounges statewide, though no language has yet been released. So far, no state has yet legalized such social consumption venues, though Denver has licensed one venue under a pilot program last year and such measures are under consideration in a number of states including Alaska, Washington, and California.

Meanwhile, Oregon regulators last week temporarily reduced the amount of medical cannabis that can be purchased at a time by around 96 percent in response to suspiciously large purchases and an ongoing issue with black market marijuana resulting from a glut of legally-produced cannabis. The previous limit was 24 ounces for licensed medical marijuana patients.

Alaska

Regulators in Alaska last week released draft regulations that would allow social-use marijuana at certain licensed establishments. Under the draft rules, recreational cannabis retailers would be permitted apply for licenses to sell up to one gram of cannabis or 10mg of cannabis-infused edibles to customers to consume on the premises per person per day. A similar measure was rejected last year but municipalities across the state have urged regulators to implement such a measure to reduce the amount of public consumption.

Oklahoma

The Secretary of State announced last week that supporter of recreational cannabis had failed to reach the number of signatures needed to place recreational cannabis legalization on the ballot this year. Supporters of the measure came up short by 20,000 signatures out of a total of 124,000, having turned in just over 100,000 valid signatures. The announcement came as little surprise, since the group that was sponsoring the ballot drive had said it was unsure how many signatures it was even handing in at the time.

Colorado

Officials in the city of Denver last week licensed the second social-use venue under a restrictive pilot program approved by voters in 2015. Smoking remains illegal statewide and the rules are so onerous that few businesses have stepped forward to apply, though it is nonetheless the first program of its kind in the country.

YouTube Ads Will Soon Be Much Harder To Skip

YouTube recently announced that content creators who monetize their videos will soon have the ability to enforce non-skippable ads, a great thing for YouTubers but an annoying thing for us viewers. This measure will allow creators the ability to earn more money, since advertisers pay more for these types of ads.

According to Mashable, non-skippable ads are primed to become the website’s default. Content creators will also have some measure of control over the types of ads that appear on their videos through the use of Adsense. This service allows creators the ability to block out specific categories of ads or specific advertisers in order to appease their viewers since now they’ll have to sit through the entire ad before they can watch whatever it is that they want to watch. Which is probably not ads.

Users have mixed feelings regarding this new update. While some claim that non-skippable ads are a good way of making money and a sign that YouTube takes their work seriously, others believe that this measure will only prevent viewers from watching their stuff and believe that other video platforms, such as Instagram and Facebook, are now providing better deals.

One of the benefits of this change is the fact that ads are now shorter — just 20 seconds at most. YouTube’s announcement was first released on a video from Creator Insider, one of the website’s official channels. You can check out the full clip below.

Here’s The Science On Why Marijuana Makes You Sleepy

Falling asleep is as easy as laying down and closing your eyes. But about 40 million Americans have some sort of sleep issues and marijuana can help, but first, let’s explain exactly why does marijuana make you sleepy.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention considers sleep apnea and other related disorders as a dangerously hidden public health issue. According to the CDC, “persons experiencing sleep insufficiency are also more likely to suffer from chronic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, depression, and obesity, as well as from cancer, increased mortality, and reduced quality of life and productivity.”

An estimated 10 million Americans have a prescription for Ambien or some other pharmaceutical sleep medication and 4 percent of adults report that they have taken a sleeping pill or sedative in the previous month.  Some of the more common side effects for these pills include:

  • Daytime drowsiness, dizziness, weakness, feeling “drugged” or light-headed
  • Tired feeling, loss of coordination
  • Stuffy nose, dry mouth, nose or throat irritation
  • Nausea, constipation, diarrhea, upset stomach
  • Headache, muscle pain

As more and more states move to legalize cannabis, more of us are looking at the herb as an alternative to pharmaceuticals. Studies have shown that cannabis can improve the duration and quality of sleep. A 1973 study suggests that THC reduces the amount of time it takes those with insomnia to fall asleep. Another study found that those that regularly used THC fell asleep faster.

Before you grab your bong, here are a few things you should know:

Know The Difference Between Indica And Sativa

Most regular cannabis consumers know that Indica strains provide more of a “body high.” These strains are preferred if you are looking to relax and sleep. Sativa strains are provide a more upbeat experience and can often interfere with sleep.

Ask your budtender for help identifying “sleep strains.” You may have to do a little of trial and error before you find the right strain for you.

The Cannabis Combo

The science of why cannabis promotes sleep is not entirely clear, but some research suggests that the terpenes in cannabis are doing the work. Terpenes are the aromatic compounds in marijuana and they interact with your body in favorable ways.

The terpenes found in lavender and chamomile both promote sleep. Working in combination with cannabis, a soak in a lavender-infused bath or a cup of chamomile tea before bed may work. Aromatherapy is another option.

Beware Of The Edible “Hangover”

Edibles are another great way to get a good night’s sleep. These typically pack a stronger punch and stay in your system much longer than smoked marijuana.

The downside of edibles? Since the cannabinoids are processed differently and stay in your system longer, you may wake up still feeling the effects of the dose. Typically, the high dissipates after a hot shower and a cup of coffee or tea.

PTSD Sufferers: Take Note

Studies have also found that cannabis is effective for treating nightmares in military personnel with PTSD. Many veterans use cannabis as a sleep aid in order to keep the nightmares at bay. If you suffer from PTSD or anxiety, cannabis may work for you.

Final Thoughts

There are now 29 states that have a medical marijuana program, but not one include sleep disorders as a qualifying condition. Why? There simply is not enough research. But if you want to steer clear of sleeping pills, cannabis may help.

Your body and your brain need seven to nine hours of sleep. Your health depends on it.

Here’s What Princess Charlotte’s Preschool Curriculum Will Look Like

0

It seems like Princess Charlotte was just born. And here she is, heading off to school already. Next week, the 3-year-old will be attending her second year at Willocks Nursery School in Kensington.

The kiddo likely won’t have time to miss mom too much. According to IB Times, the little royal will have lots to keep her busy. Her curriculum will include activities that most adults pay for, like pottery and poetry lessons. Reads the school’s website:

The Willcocks Nursery is a traditional nursery school which strives to maintain its ethos for high standards, excellence and good manners.

It is a fun and structured morning with lots of free play where children embark on the first stages of learning to read, write, and to understand simple numbers with the minimum of pressure.

Charlotte’s classes will take place from Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., according to the IB Times, which also adds that, “Every day, she and her classmates will sing hymns, read poems, play educational games, and write.”

That is, if her mom and dad enroll her in morning classes and not the less structured afternoon classes. If that’s the case, she’ll start school Sept. 6 instead of Sept. 5.

What’s a little messed up is that Prince George, Charlotte’s 5-year-old brother, has a way tougher grind when he heads to school.  According to People:

…the future king will embark on a year-long curriculum that includes core subjects such as math, English, science, history, geography and religious studies. He’ll also be taught by specialist teachers in the subjects of French, computing, art/design, technology, music, drama, P.E. — and even ballet!

And when he returns to the palace, it’s no rest for the weary. Says People, “George will be expected to complete 10 minutes of reading every night. In addition, a spelling rule or pattern will be sent home with the students each week.

George will also be working on his speaking skills, which will come in handy for future royal speeches! He’ll be reciting poetry, telling stories (both real and imagined), reading aloud to a group and taking part in discussions.”

Guess prepping to be a future king is hard work. Even when you still have most of your baby teeth.
