Watch: This British Man Invented A Real-Life Flying Iron Man Suit

Within the pantheon of classic superheroes, Tony Stark’s ability might seem obscure. You’re prone to assume it’s the suit that makes him a hero, but you would be mistaken. In reality, his “superpower” is his brain, which allows him to build technology like the suits and Jarvis and Stark Tower and all his other devices. So that someone could build a real-life Iron Man suit isn’t outside the realm of possibility. Richard Browning, a 38-year-old UK inventor, did just that.

For the past 18 months Browning has been secretly tinkering inside his garage, constructing and testing his high-powered suit. Without his neighbors knowing, the ex-Royal Marine built a jet engine exoskeleton suit that allows him to hover in the air, just like Iron Man.

“The philosophy behind all this was: Could we reimagine how a really raw form of human flight would work?” Browning told Live Science.

Browning revealed it requires an enormous effort of upper-body strength and coordination to control the suit. The only steering and speed mechanism is manual, meaning the user must direct the thrusters through sheer force alone. Browning was inspired by the Greek mythology of Daedalus, who fabricated wings so he and his son Icarus could escape imprisonment. Hence, Browning named his suit after the myth.

“You have a trigger at your right hand, which controls the arm engines, and you have a trigger at your left hand, which controls the rear engines,” Browning said to Live Science.

Currently Browning can only fly around 10 minutes in the suit at a running speed around 5 miles per hour. Eventually he envision long-distance flights with speeds of 60 mph and a cruising altitude of 330 feet in the air. Since the reveal, Browning has received multiple inquiries to show off the technology at events and from interested parties seeking to have their own Iron Man suits.

“The cost is about $250,000, so it’s something that you could buy instead of a Lamborghini,” Browning told Live Science. “It’s not intended for the mass market at this stage.”

This Guy Is Trying to Get 18 Million Retweets For A Year of Free Chicken Nuggets from Wendy’s

0

What would you do for a year’s worth of free chicken from your favorite fast food joint? Some might stand in line for hours to spend the night inside a Chick Fil A with a bunch of church camp weirdos while others, like Twitter user Carter Wilkerson, are trying to get limitless nuggets for a year from Wendy’s by achieving the seemingly impossible goal of 18 million retweets.

Last week, Wilkerson apparently tweeted at Wendy’s out of the blue. “Yo @Wendys how many retweets for a year of free chicken nuggets?” he asked.

“18 million,” the fast food giant tweeted in reply.

Wilkerson screenshot the conversation and posted it on his Twitter, where it has since been retweeted over 988,000 times. While that’s a huge number, the 18-year old shouldn’t get too excited—it’s still 17 million and change short of the final number and the most popular tweet of all time was Ellen Degeneres’s selfie at the Oscars, which currently has about 3.3 million retweets.

Even if he doesn’t get the nuggets, Wilkerson is still making the most of and enjoying his new found internet fame.

Talking To Your Dog Or Cat Means You’re Smart, Not Crazy

If people ever try to make you feel bad or dumb for talking to your dog or even your plants or car, politely inform them that—according to science—it is they that are the dumb ones for not talking to their animals or Toyota Camry.

Anthropomorphizing, or assigning human characteristics to non-human objects, is a sign of intelligence, according to Nicholas Epley, a behavioral science professor at the University of Chicago, who recently spoke to Quartz.

“Historically, anthropomorphizing has been treated as a sign of childishness or stupidity, but it’s actually a natural byproduct of the tendency that makes humans uniquely smart on this planet,” Epley told Quartz. “No other species that has this tendency.”

But why do we do this? The practice apparently goes back thousands of years.  If you’re a legendary knight, you trust and defend your life through your weapon, and if you’re on a ship a few hundred years ago, your life is at the mercy of the vessel,” Macquarie University linguistics professor Ingrid Piller told Quartz. “You name the vessel because it becomes your most important companion. You want to believe it has vested interest in keeping you safe—even though it truly has no interests at all.”

This is, without a doubt, great news for pet and plant owners. Don’t forget to tell your cat about it!

Vin Diesel Really, Really Loves Karaoke And These Videos Will Make Your Day

Vin Diesel is one of our two biggest action stars. The other, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, stars with Diesel in America’s biggest homegrown franchise The Fast and The Furious, where undoubtedly Diesel’s the star. They drive cars across skyscrapers and make no-way-this-happens-in-real-life mid-air catches of loved ones. They brawl and they race; it’s super cool.

But that is not Diesel’s secret dream. Because what Vin Diesel really wants to do is sing. To say he sings karaoke seems diminutive—karaoke singers are generally drunk and require cajoling. Vin Diesel needs neither. Here he is just this week singing “Lean on Me” on The Tonight Show in a chipmunk voice.

Get it? With the chipmunk voice and cheesy background, it’s a joke. Only this isn’t a joke. Diesel really really loves singing. Just a few weeks ago, he went for it singing over the Selena Gomez-featuring Kygo track “It Ain’t Me.” Apparently Kygo had given him his blessing.

Of course the internet remember that time Diesel sung Rihanna’s “Stay” in that gravely (what’s gravel?), smoky (like 12 packs a day for 30 years smoker) voice of his.

Here is singing Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me,” because you wish you had this confidence.

Who could forget a few years ago when Diesel wished us all a glorious Valentine’s Day rendition of Maroon 5’s “My Heart Is Open.”

And in case you’ve somehow never watched the greatest video on the internet before…here’s Vin Diesel dancing to Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse.”

Fate of the Furious drops April 14. We’ll be watching Vin Diesel YouTube videos until then.

Get Buzzed With This ‘Funky Bee’s Knees’ THC-Infused Honey Cocktail

0

I thought this was going to be a low key sort of afternoon, then other things happened, one of which brought me to this place of calm, and “highly” introspective buzziness.

The change of the seasons offers a change in the flavors that I seek at the cocktail bar and eventually into my glass. I’ve been way down the road of helpful bartenders (generally they are not mixologists, that’s something different) attempting to make, ether successfully or not (well-meaning) suggestions as to seasonality. These might be delightful drinks, such as a Mint Julep in the ice and cold of January, or a lip smacking and body buzzing Sazerac in the blazing sun of the summer. You can have these drinks — and right you should! — but for utter seasonality in these early spring weeks, I seek the depth and sophistication that honest and raw ingredients can bring to the cocktail glass.

Of course, things wouldn’t be quite that simple for me. I much prefer to twist things up a bit. In this case the drink is the classic “Bee’s Knee’s” made with gin. I am historically attracted to honey and, truth be told, to the brilliant raw honey and grain distilled gin from Barr Hill in Vermont. There is a depth and character that speaks to my much less than idle intellect. When woven into the Bee’s Knee’s with raw honey from the Northeast Kingdom’s distilleries’ own beehives, slowly infused with a healthy dose of decarbed cannabis, fully loaded with THC, now that is a cocktail that speaks a brilliant but as of yet undiscovered language.

First we decarb the cannabis of your choice and in the amount of your choosing so the THC becomes active in the cocktail. If you don’t heat the cannabis, the THC will not be activated. If you are just soaking some weed in a bottle, you are doing it wrong. You need to decarb.

My rule of thumb may completely destroy you. I always use the Thai food principle. As you wouldn’t order Thai spicy the first time around, start low and build up your tolerance. Go too fast and you’ll know it. Suck a lemon, drink lots of water, lay down. You’ll feel better soon.

I use the Ardent for my decarb now. Its microprocessor controlled for perfect decarb every single time. I was burning my expensive weed in the toaster oven! No more smell either!

Very sophisticated!

Raw Honey/Canna Oil

for whatever you want to do with it (great in your morning coffee!)

  • 1 cup raw honey
  • ¼ cup coconut oil (I used USDA Certified Organic)
  • 7-14 grams per cup of decarbed cannabis (I used the Ardent)
  • 1-2 Tablespoons lecithin (for a better buzz. It works!)

1. Run the Ardent with your favorite Cannabis to decarb- it’s easy!

2. Roughly grind the decarbed Cannabis after the cycle is completed after an hour and fifteen or so…

3. Add to 1 cup (more or less is up to you) of coconut oil, raw honey and the lecithin

4. In a Double Boiler, heat the coconut oil, raw honey and cannabis and lecithin together for a couple of hours, NEVER exceeding 160 degrees, never boil, you’ll destroy the honey’s healing power and vaporize the THC. Use a good submersible thermometer from a restaurant supply

5. Strain out the remaining Cannabis well through a cheesecloth and make some Chai (Indian) tea with it before throwing out the scraps or composting.

6. Let the coco/canna-honey cool a bit (will last, nearly forever, left in the dark)

Funky Bee’s Knees

Ingredients: (for two)

5 oz. Barr Hill Gin (Distilled in Vermont)

3 oz. THC infused Raw Honey simple syrup (1:1 hot water to raw honey and mix)

2 oz. freshly squeezed lemon juice

Prep:

Fill a Boston Shaker ¾ with ice. Add the raw honey THC-infused simple syrup to the shaker. Add the gin. Add the freshly squeezed lemon juice. Cap and shake very hard for 15 seconds or until the shaker is really frosty. Strain into two coupe glasses and prepare another round in ½ hour or so.

Say after me: Funky Bee’s Knee’s!

Watch What Happens When a Routine Crossfit Warmup Goes Very Wrong

0

The GIF below of a workout warmup gone terribly wrong apparently occurred at a Crossfit class, according to sleuths on reddit. While we can’t independently confirm exactly where the disaster took place, we can confirm that it’s hilarious.

The exercise starts off simply and successfully enough. An instructor, with the help of a colleague, gets the large mat spinning as members of the class jump over it. But soon things get out of hand.

As the trainer spins the mat faster and faster, things go haywire. First four or five people go down, but none seem to be hurt or anything. But then the mat makes another rotation, brutally clocking one woman directly in her neck and head.

We have no info on her current condition, but it seems likely she escaped with only a bruised ego.

Willie Nelson’s Wife Announces Marijuana-Infused Artisanal Chocolate Edible Line

As marijuana legalization continues throughout the country, it’s little surprise that so-called stoner celebrities are taking advantage of the opportunity to develop their own cannabis brands. Lesser-associated names like Roseanne Barr and Melissa Etheridge are included in that list and so are the well-known commodities like Willie Nelson.

Now joining that list is Nelson’s wife of 25-plus years, Annie Nelson. Annie is launching Annie’s Edibles, a marijuana-infused artisanal chocolate edible company that will be available in select Washington retailers.

“I make my infused chocolates for people who want to enjoy gourmet cannabis chocolate in a controllable way,” Nelson says. “It’s important that my chocolates are suitable for those with diet restrictions—whether someone is vegan, has Celiac Disease or gluten allergies, requires a low or balanced sweetener diet or if they have a low tolerance to cannabis they can still enjoy the benefits of my infused chocolates.”

The chocolate hails from Fine & Raw Chocolate, who has been labeled the “Willy Wonka of Brookyln” and whose mission is “to save the world through silliness and chocolate.” There is a strict “Zero Crap Policy” in Nelson’s kitchen, as stated in the press release. The bars are made from coconut palm sugar instead of table sugar. The bars are divided into 5 mg pieces.

“Those who regularly enjoy cannabis may choose to indulge in two chocolate squares, while those new to cannabis are encouraged to start with one square or half of one square,” the press release states. “There is no mention of how many squares someone like, say, Willie, might enjoy.”

Ditch That Nasty Hangover: 7 Ways To Eat Your Beer

0

Do you love beer? Do you love beer so much that you want to consume it more than anyone you know? So much that even when you’re not in the mood to drink the brew, you want to EAT your beer? What does that even mean? So many questions!

Okay, let’s slow down. There are lots of ways to eat beer. It’s not something you’ll see in an advertisement or hear about in a song most likely but, yes, you can actually eat beer.

Why would you want to do that? We’ve already gone over that: because beer is awesome and having it in your life,  whether that’s in a bottle, can, solo cup or breakfast meal, is what living a good life is all about. So, without further ado, here are all the ways you can eat your beer.

Beer pretzels

https://www.instagram.com/p/BSFL5_4AIIl/

There may not be a better bar food than a giant soft pretzel with smoked gouda cheese dipping sauce in one ramekin and some spicy or sweet stone ground mustard in another. But did you know that many of these taproom pretzels are made with beer? Or, more specifically, the spent grain from the brewing process.

Brew malt cookies

Or if you prefer something sweeter, you can use your spent grain to make cookies — and lots of different kinds. The Brooklyn Brew Shop offers nine recipes, from macaroons to peanut butter.

Beer cheese soup

Yet another example of how beer and cheese go so well together, especially when Gouda is the counterpart. A good beer and cheese soup will be reminiscent of fondue, so get your toasted baguette (or a spent grain loaf of bread) ready.

Beer can chicken

https://www.instagram.com/p/BSoOQt2FxvH/

Maybe the strangest of all the recipes, with this one you shove a can of beer into the butt of a whole chicken and stand the thing upright on top of your barbecue. The heat from the coals evaporates the beer and makes the whole thing super juicy. It’s easier than it sounds.

Stout-braised short ribs

You can have your sausages, burgers and chicken wings, no problem. But try to take all the ribs away and you’ll get your hand slapped! Everyone knows ribs are the best part of any family BBQ. And when those ribs are brushed and braised with a nice Stout and brown sugar mixture?

Beer cheesecake

Back to the sweet stuff. Cheesecake is an amalgam of flavors and textures. The bottom layer is crunchy cookie or pretzel. The body of the cake is soft and silky but also has body.

There’s cream cheese, chocolate. Everything is balanced and amazing. And this is only underscored if you add a little brew to the mixing bowl.

Stout waffles

Heaven exists on earth and it’s been hiding in stout waffles. Thick and toothsome, they can stand up to any amount of syrup your heart desires. Plus, if you use the right recipe, there’s buttermilk in the mix.

The New Medical Marijuana ETF Is Killing It, But Here’s Why Investors Should Be Cautious

Horizons Marijuana ETF Management has only been on the market for a week, but it is already poised to become one of the leading pot dealers on the planet, according to a recent analysis by MarketWatch.

The report shows the company’s product “Medical Marijuana Life Sciences,” which consists of a number of firms related to medical cannabis industry, including Scott’s Miracle-Gro and GW Pharmaceuticals, has been driving investors wild ever since it was launched on Monday.

So far, well over one million shares have been traded since yesterday afternoon.

Although the medical marijuana fund has collected somewhere in the neighborhood of $30 million in assets, which is pretty small in the grand scheme Exchange-Traded Funds, the majority of the transactions have only been for a few hundred shares, a detail that seems to indicate a lack of interest from big money investors, according to BayStreet Media.

Nevertheless, for a new fund to find so much success is a rarity. It is the most popular product of its kind to emerge this month, with its closest competition being the JPMorgan Global Bond Opportunities ETF – a fund that has secured around $25 million in assets.

“The Horizons fund represents something relatively rare for the modern-day ETF marketplace: a new fund that tracks an industry with heavy demand but which had no vehicle that investors can use to gain broad exposure,” markets reporter Ryan Vlastelica writes.

But while it can be easy to get overly excited about finally having a channel to invest in legal marijuana, some experts are urging caution.

Even though the majority of the businesses associated with the fund seem to have a solid foundation, there are some concerns that these types of marijuana investment opportunities could play out in a manner similar to how the dot-com buddle did toward the end of the 1990s.

That’s when investors previous stoked about the tech industry essentially figured out that all of these dot-com businesses carried little to no weight. In turn, companies worth billions of dollars on paper were all of a sudden diminished to nothing. The incident spawned a global recession – a situation where only the strongest of the strong survived.

“When valuations get this stretched, bad things often happen,” writes the BayStreet Staff. “Be cautious on this new ETF. Canada’s pot stocks are still a speculative investment at this point.”
