Tips To Chill When Seeing Northern Lights in the North America

The Northern Lights are making a rare wide range appearance – want to make better?

The Northern Lights are expected to make a rare appearance this week in as many as 17 states and lower Canada including Toronto and Vancouver. The holy grail of sky watching, the beautiful dancing waves of light have captivated people for millennia. The Northern Lights, or aurora borealis, is a phenomenon whereby electrically charged particles that are sent flying from the sun collide with gas molecules and atoms in our atmosphere. These collisions release light, which under certain conditions, can be viewed in various places across the world.  Usually in the extreme northern parts like Scandinavia, Alaska, and Iceland. But this week, you can see them in North American and wouldn’t it be great to chill when seeing the Northern Lights?

According to the University of Alaska Fairbanks, the Northern Lights are expected to be visible this Wednesday/Thursday, (July 12-13), with the best viewing time between 10PM and 2AM local time according to the Space Weather Prediction Center. The unique dazzling display of colors is expected to be visible in parts of New York, Washington, Idaho, Vermont, Wyoming, New Hampshire, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Nebraska, Massachusetts, Maryland, Ohio, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Maine. Observers likely want to avoid areas with high light pollution (such as cities) for the best view.

While the way we experience cannabis can vary significantly, a common effect is heightened sensory perception, which may result in even more intense or vibrant colors while watching the Northern Lights. Artists, creators, and storytellers have long used cannabis to aid in their creativity and deepen experiences. Similarly, the Northern Lights have inspired numerous works, stories, and myths, many of which have stood the test of time. For those looking for inspiration or a potentially spiritual experience, the right strain might help you see a new light.

If you are a canna-newbie or canna-curious, you might try low-dose THC products, such as a fast-acting beverage with 2.5mg of THC. Arguably as important as the type of weed you enjoy, is the way in which you do so. Smoking is the premier way people consume, especially those over 50. Vaporizers, popular in the under 50 set, offers inhalation consumption but may be less irritating over prolonged periods.

For those looking to avoid inhalation all together, edibles are a popular option. The types of edibles which you have access to may vary, but s’mores made with cannabis-infused chocolate allow for a social activity while you’re waiting for the Northern Lights to appear. Timing is key with edibles, plan to take them 45 to an hour before the light and be careful not to over-consume. You want to make a memory, not sleep through the experience.

Other non-inhalation options also exist, many of which have more predictable onset times and/or less calories than edibles. Tinctures, sprays, and the often overlooked sublingual, are just a few options.

Highlighting the mystic effects and enhancement, there is actually a strain named after the natural phenomenon – Northern Lights. Though those looking to pair Northern Lights cannabis with the actual Northern Lights, be warned, the indica cannabis strain is known for its potentially sleep-inducing effects. For those worried about staying up to see the lights, a more energizing strain might do the trick. Though for those accustomed to late hours, a focus on more euphoric strains might best enhance the experience.

Is THCa A Medical Solution That Can Help You?

Cannabis has been around for thousands of years helping man with a variety of issues. Yes, there hasn’t been enough research to fully unlock all the potential of the plant. While marijuana is a “fun” plant allowing people to get high and chill, it has proven medical benefits recognized by the American Medical Association, British Medical Association, the US Government and other science and data based institutions. Parts of the plant can make significant differences in treatments, but is THCA a medical solution that can help you?

Science says medical marijuana can help with cancer treatments, anxiety, nausea, pain and more. It is not a cure all like aspirin, but it can help in many things, more studies to be funded to unlock the potential.

A key part of marijuana is THC, a crystalline compound that is the main active ingredient of cannabis. THC provides the “high” while also delivering medical benefits. Recently, there has been discussion around TCHa, the most abundant non-psychoactive cannabinoid found in cannabis.

THCa is the acid form of THC that’s found in the raw cannabis plant. In general, cannabis produces all cannabinoids in acid form. It is one of the most abundant cannabinoid acids and is the precursor to THC. Alone, cannabinoid acids do not provide the high. Instead, these acids deliver some health benefits minus changes in consciousness.

When one consumes THC, a decarboxylation process normally takes place first. Decarboxylation is the term that’s used to describe the heating of a compound via smoking or vaping. To convert THCA into THC, raw cannabis first needs to be dried, aged, and heated via smoking or vaping. Overall, THC is a breakdown of THCA, and it doesn’t deliver psychoactive effects until it’s heated through decarboxylation.

Although research on THCA is in its infancy stage, a great deal of research findings has emerged regarding several of its medicinal benefits. After learning about THCA and its link to THC, let’s discuss the medicinal and therapeutic benefits of this compound. Different studies have been performed on THCA in recent years, which discovered the following potential benefits of the compound:

In addition, there’s also much promise in consuming THCA to treat epilepsy and seizures. In one particular study, two milligrams of THCA administered daily resulted in the subject experiencing a 90 percent seizure reduction. Similarly, when specific terpenes are combined with THCA in a cannabis strain, this combination can significantly contribute to the anti-seizure and anti-epileptic effect THCA has on patients.

Regarding THCa’s anti-proliferative properties, one study conducted in 2013 found. in animal models and cell structures, THCA inhibited the proliferation of prostate cancer cells. Additionally, a study that was conducted one-year prior (2012) discovered THCA neutralized damage caused by oxidative neurotoxins. Although more research needs to be conducted to confirm this finding, this discovery represents the potential of consuming THCa to help treat neurodegenerative diseases caused by oxidative stress.

Lastly, at the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada, Erin Rock and other scientists found that extremely low doses of THCa were able to prevent nausea in rat subjects. It was also discovered that THCA successfully synergizes with CBDA, thus, acting as a strong antiemetic compound.

While more need to be explored, the effects and properties already discovered point to the significant potential of this compound. If you’d like to consume THCA, it’s suggested to look for high-THC strains that haven’t been decarboxylated yet. You could also juice or blend raw cannabis parts such as leftover fan leaves, buds, and/or stems to reap the potential  benefits.

How To Make Lemons Into Marijuana Lemonade (And More)

The country is in a heat wave with temperatures topping 100 – here are a couple of cool recipes to chill out

So far July has had the two hottest days in recorded history, and people are melting.  Nothing says summer and cool relief than the tarty, sweet taste of lemons.  Cool, crisp and refreshing, they lift the soul into a decent temperature.

Lemonade and lemon bars are go-to summer treats, so what about a summer marijuana edible or beverage? Lemons and other citrus were traditionally used as an antidote for the effects of cannabis on the body. The reason is due to a terpene known as limonene.  It isone of the most commonly found terpenes. It is the main ingredient in various citrus oils (orange lime, lemon, grapefruit). Limonene can also be found in certain cannabis varieties with a lemony scent.  It  is considered an uplifting terpene capable of creating a sense of euphoria and calm.

How Blockchain Technologies Are Changing the Cannabis Industry

The blockchain and cannabis industries are two of the newest and largest markets to emerge in our lifetime. Both blockchain technology and the cannabis industry have reached new highs in recent years, but both are facing difficulties in 2023. The blockchain industry remains largely unregulated and is currently recovering from several high-profile scandals. Still, the value and underlying utility of blockchain tools cannot be understated. Its true potential as an unchanging database has hardly been tapped into, particularly as it relates to data recording and security tools. Now blockchain technologies are changing the the cannabis industry.

The cannabis industry has seen its own struggles, as a lack in federal progress has hurt industry funding and disrupted publicly traded companies. The lack of significant banking options, difficulty in payment processing, tax and financial burdens, and lack of regulatory clarity have required cannabis businesses to go above and beyond to simply survive.

But what if these two industries could help one another – could utilizing blockchain technology and tools in the cannabis industry help both fields reach their full potential?

Despite the aforementioned struggles, the legal cannabis industry is expected to exceed $100 billion dollars by 2030  with the blockchain technology market potentially exceeding $130 billion dollars in the same time.

Cannabis is not legal on the federal level, which leaves States that have legalized cannabis solely responsible for ensuring quality control and transparency. Further, a lack in oversight of these fractured markets often results in safety concerns, particularly as cannabis businesses typically transact on a cash basis, leaving them vulnerable to robberies and other frauds. Bad actors in the industry may also divert cannabis products from legal programs to the illicit market, avoiding the otherwise high taxes.

Blockchain usage in the cannabis industry has the potential to remedy a number of these issues. Blockchains are immutable ledgers that can allow for tracking across supply chains, helping to ensure proper quality controls and preventing legally produced cannabis from entering unregulated markets via detailed storage recording. Blockchain technology can even help alleviate some issues associated with payment processing, with the use of cryptocurrencies allowing for less cash transactions (which can help to prevent theft).

RELATED: California or New York – Which Has The Biggest Marijuana Mess?

The cannabis markets can greatly benefit from blockchain data recording, as well as blockchain based monetary and security tools. The long-term success of blockchain technology will likely depend on its integration with other industries, which would allow for significant utilities across nearly all markets.

Already, cannabis businesses are integrating blockchain technology and tools to verify plant authenticity and lab results. Some businesses also utilize blockchain-powered cryptocurrencies specific to the cannabis industry, allowing for cash-less transactions. Further utilizing blockchain technology in the cannabis industry could help both industries take the next step towards realizing their respective potentials.

These emerging industries are still in their early stages, and collaboration between them could prove to be an incredibly fruitful endeavor down the line. The constantly evolving nature of both industries means that navigating appropriate rules can be quite difficult. In order to fully understand the legal liabilities of involving blockchain technology in the operation of a cannabis businesses, operators should seek appropriate attorneys for blockchain and cannabis related matters.

Visiting Seattle For MLB Or A Cruise? Information You Need!

Summer is bringing MLB and cruises to popular Seattle. Here is a quick guide of what to do, where to eat, how to consume and a word of caution!

Seattle has long been a tourist destination. Home to the historic Pike Place Market, the soaring Space Needle and mystical Chihuly Garden and Glass, a vibrant music scene,  tourists from around the globe trek to the 30th anniversary of Sleepless in Seattle. In June, Seattle set another record for being the most sold out city in the US.  The cruise industry is having a banner year and Major League Baseball All Stars kicks off 11 July at T-Mobile Park. Visiting Seattle for MLB or a Cruise, we have some must know information for you.

While the city is flooded with visitor, if doesn’t feel crowded and has something for everyone to explore. Marijuana is fully legal so that isn’t a concern. But, be warned, Seattle is the only city in Washington that has chosen, for now, not to prosecute drug offenders. Here are  some direct and general tips for visiting the city.

Seattle has fully legal recreational marijuana.  The greater downtown area has a variety of retail shops including Have A Heart (Belltown) and Uncle Ikes (Capital Hill). While people smoke on the streets, don’t plan to whip out a pre-roll in restaurants, retail stores, bars or nightclubs. Look for something more discreet.  The stadiums have security checks and cannabis and alcohol are not allowed. Cruise ships are also not open to marijuana being part of your luggage. For the cruises the telltale sign is the aroma.

The light rail can take you from the Stadium district to the retail core, where the largest hotels are located.  It can also take you the International district (excellent food), Captial Hill (trendy music and bar district), and historic Pioneer Square.

The city has a great food scene with a variety of experiences and cuisines. Consider treating your palate at The Pink Door, Japonessa, Communion, Aqua and more.  Low key place include Bar Cotto, Fogon, Assagios and gems in Pike Place Market. In the international district, Jade Garden is known for excellent dim sum, Tai Tung is the oldest restaurant  and Harbor City is open until 11 pm. For drinks, high end would include the Fairmont, the Four Seasons, and at the other end you have The 5 Point along with a whole range of bars in Belltown and Capital Hill. Near the stadium you can pick from a wide choice of watering holes.

RELATED: Marijuana Is Not The Cause Of The Fentanyl Crisis

As of 1 July, the city does not have a system to deal with open air drug users, so some of the downtown streets have some extra local scenery. Fentanyl is freely used on the streets and 3rd Ave should be avoided except as a crossover street.  Don’t be surprised if you randomly see people screaming, waking naked, or stealing. Police are hamstrung in their approach, so try to stay in groups.  A majority of Seattle City Council believes there is not need to prosecute and the office of the Mayor is taking a slow approach to potential resolution.

Can Marijuana Help When The Heat Wave Has You Boiling?

Temperatures seem to rising. Can marijuana help you with the heat?

July 3rd was the hottest day of record on the planet, until July 4th came along. Scientists are warning the temperature records are likely to be a trend for the next few months. El Niño phenomenon is cited as part of the reason for extreme heat.  It was so hot, a piece of the interstate buckled in Louisiana.

High tempertures can play havoc with your body.  Extended hot weather days can cause poor sleep, lack of appetite, hot or damp skin, headaches, loss of motivation, irritability and more.  Staying cool and keeping your body at a reasonable temperature of 97° – 99° is key. Can marijuana help when the heat wave has you boiling and miserable?

Yes, cannabis actually does reduce your body temperature—temporarily. Several studies indicate marijuana can, reduce the body temperature short term. Food like spicy mustard, chili flakes and wasabi can also provide quick relief. The cannabis cool effect is thought to happen because of the way THC interacts with a receptor called TRPA-1. This receptor controls important functions, including pain relief and body temperature.

Not all weed is created equal when it comes to body chilling phenomenon. According to some consumers, switching to tinctures and edibles rather bongs, pre-rolls, or other methods involving heating the product helps move to a cooling response quicker.

You can also replace drinking alcohol at home with cannabis beverages. Consuming this way is refreshing and as potent without dehydrating your body.

Cannabis is popular as a non addictive sleep aid.  In hot weather, some struggle with both falling and staying asleep. The sleep-promoting effects of cannabinoids are due to their interactions with cannabinoid receptors in the brain. When cannabinoids bind to these receptors, they send messages to increase levels of sleep-promoting adenosine and suppress the brain’s arousal system. Together, these effects may help cannabis users feel sedated or sleepy.

What To Expect From A Cannabis Edible

New to marijuana edibles? Here is how to consume and what to expect.

Marijuana has become almost mainstream with around 88% of the population supporting legalization.  Homemade treats were the OG edible, but in the new legal recreational world you can get high-end chocolates, gummies, and a whole host of candies.  Those recently hitting legal age in the 23 fully recreational state can work into a store and buy an edible as easy as they can purchase beer.

Science has said marijuana is better over alcohol, has medical benefits and fights don’t break out after getting a bit high.  The new generations are paying attention as alcohol use is dropping and marijuana consuming is rising.

If you are unfamiliar or new to eating edibles, here are some tips on how to consume and what to expect. The first piece of advice is start low and go slow.

RELATED: Science Says Medical Marijuana Improves Quality Of Life

Understand the dosage

Retail bought edibles should be labeled the the per piece dosage .  Most have about 10mg per piece. Casual users should be in the 5-10 mg for a pleasant high.Only seasoned cannabis users and medical marijuana patients are recommended to start dosing above 15mg.  It is very common for people to start with a portion of edible (2.5-5 mg) to see the reaction.  With homemade edibles, like the classic marijuana brownie, you need to find out from the baker how much they put in, to figure out the dosage.  You should proceed with caution since you don’t want to have an over reaction.

How is works

When you take an edible, the cannabinoids/THC is the part which give you the buzz. This is similar the ethanol in alcohol. Unlike vaping, joints, or oils which go straight to the bloodstream, edible THC first travels to the stomach and then liver, before making it to the bloodstream and brain. THC works best with fats, think of chocolates, to help it activate in the body.

Timing is key

Average edibles effects take about 45 minutes to an hour when consumed on an empty stomach due to their digestive nature. When consumed alongside a full meal, it can take up to three hours. If you are not feeling anything about 1.5 hours in, you can take a bit more, knowing it will prolong the high once it hits.  You don’t want to keep consuming like Washington Post columnist Maureen Dowd. The high will peak in about two to four hours.  You can have more edibles to continue the buzz.  As you become better acquainted with use, you will be able to mange length and potentency of your journey.

What to expect

As portrayed in the classic Doonesbury strip, everyone has their their own reaction, from relaxation, to sleepiness, to just a mind wondering about the beauty of the world. The type of cannabinoid your edible contains guides the different effects. Higher THC edibles typically have a more intoxicating or psychoactive effect. Edibles with greater levels of CBD cause less of the high, and instead relaxes you and helps you feel less anxious.

Remember, no one has died from an overdose of marijuana and if you have a worst case reaction, you can always just go to sleep.  Here are some way to come down from a high.

Enjoy

When you start out on your edible education, find a comfortable atmosphere to begin and don’t overthink it.  Relax and enjoy the journey.

Seven Marijuana Tips For You To Enjoy July 4th

July 4th can be a party marathon and not a sprint. Here are some tips to enjoy marijuana while having a great time.

July 4th is a huge party holiday, and a long weekend is the perfect time to kick back and relax.  Most people will grab a cold one. Having a beer while enjoying fireworks has become tradition for people while celebrating.  Other popular traditions include fireworks, bbqs, hot dogs and lots of drinks including rosé, sangria, vodka, tequila and most things over ice.  But it has also become a huge marijuana holiday.  The last few years, sales have exploded in the 23 recreational states in the days leading up the 4th.

As the population becomes cool with marijuana use, incorporating into holiday festivities just seems natural.  But there are some things to watch up for and consider to maximize everyone’s enjoyment. Here are seven marijuana tips for a great holiday.

Cannabis is a no go in National Parks And Federal Property

Remember that just because weed is legal in your state does not mean it is legal everywhere in your state. As previously reported, marijuana possession and usage is prohibited on federal property. This is particularly critical to remember on July 4th, as fireworks celebrations and events can happen on federal property. Federal property includes parks, park reserves and public monuments.

Hydrate

Summer heat and outside activities mean drinking extra water.  While alcohol can dehydrate you, cannabis makes it seems like you are dehydrated with cotton mouth. Drinking water will help you overcome the dryness and help you last for the day.

Consider Low Dose Edibles For The Main Festivities

If you are attending a big fireworks show at night, or some other long event with lots of people, remember that July 4th is a marathon and not a sprint. Heat, marijuana and lots of walking is enough to wipe anyone out. A longer slight buzz could make the day more enjoyable and still have you going into the night.

If you have a long day ahead, consider lower dose edibles, or other low-THC methods. This way you can have a relaxed day without getting burnt out. This method also ensures you aren’t stone cold sober by the time the fireworks start.

Keep You Weed Stored Securely

July 4th is known to be a rowdy, and often wet holiday, between water balloons and squirt guns or just plain old rain. Unsuspecting party guests sometimes get dunked in a pool/lake with maybe a bit of help. While this is usually all in good fun, the last thing you need is a soggy joint or your weed floating all over a pool.

Follow the basic rules of weed storage if you plan on being out and about for the entire day. Either keep your product in its original container (if watertight), or grab an airtight container to nip any potential disasters in the bud. And if all else fails, here’s What To Do If Your Weed Gets Wet.

The Odor Doesn’t Always Attract The Right Crowd

Remember that Independence Day is a holiday that all Americans celebrate. This includes people who are opposed to marijuana usage, and also their children. While there is high support for usage, it doesn’t mean it is popular in the crowd at the moment. All you need is one of those opponents to catch wind of your joint to really spoil your high.

To be more discreet, consider an odorless vape pen, edibles or cannabis beverages instead.

Don’t surprise anyone

Weed treats and friend gathering are becoming more popular. Label anything with weed and let everyone know.  Like we have said before, no need to get overly scientific. Just be sure to mention what is in them, how strong they are, and if you have tried them. If you are attending a more transient “pop-in, pop-out” function, it is best to keep your cannabis treats tucked away. Offer them out yourself as people arrive to avoid any unexpected trips.

Have A Blast

You are officially ready to celebrate now that you have more information about how to stay safe, high and healthy this weekend. After all, there are few holidays that allow for so many fun, free, lively activities among friends and family. So go forth and enjoy July 4th!
