The Most Popular Marijuana Flavors

Seems everything from gum to vodka to Cheetos has some new flavor profile.  What are the most popular ones in the weed world?

Cheetos, chips, hot sauces and more all now have multiple flavors.  Bailey’s new chocolate is a raging success…but they have also have strawberry, colada, vanilla cinnamon and more.   In the 1800s, the Germans and Swiss were the first to expand the flavor market significantly, generally through the derivation of flavoring substances occurring naturally in foods. In the United States, many flavor companies began as importers of European essential oils and extracts.  According to Datassential, 81% of consumers love or like vanilla and 94% have tried it. But consumers are curious so a variety of new flavors pop up – remember the start of the chipotle frenzy?

Millenials and Gen Z love trying global flavors and the availability is increasing even in more rural communities. Some of the top-trending ingredients in snacks and frozen foods are sesame seed, ginger, jerk, spicy honey, miso and tahini. Korean and African flavors are most popular, with Italian, Japanese and Greek flavors trailing closely behind. The hot new flavors of 2023 includes ube, mangonada, yuze, spicy maple and London Fog. Look to seem them pop up in restaurants, speciality markets and Instagram.

But what are the most popular marijuana flavors? The team at BDSA, one of the leading data analyst companies in the cannabis insdustry, shared what flavors customers are purchasing.  Like alcohol, consumers tend to like something other than the base flavor and generally sweet and sugary.  Think of Ihop wide variety of over the top pancakes.

This year, consumer use is increasing both my the number of new users and frequency of use. The interesting tidbit is while flower and vapes continue to bring in the most revenue, gummies are consumer by the most number of people. And gummies offer a flavor and taste people are used to, and is pleasing to the palate. They are perfect for on-the-go use and are very budget friendly.  And you can easily control the dosage.

The top marijuana gummy flavors are:

  • Watermelon
  • Elderberry
  • Blue Raspberry
  • Raspberry
  • Strawberry

Edibles (outside of gummies) are just behind flower, vape and gummies and are dominated by the chocolate group.  Again, it is a familiar taste most people love. Next to vanilla, milk chocolate is the top sweet flavor.

The top chocolate edibles flavors are

  1. Milk Chocolate
  2. Dark Chocolate
  3. Peanut Butter
  4. Espresso
  5. Churro

As an example of how this compares to other non-cananbis products, Jolly Rancher list these are their top selling – 1. Watermelon · 2. Green Apple · 3. Cherry · 4. Fruit Punch · 5. Mango.

It seems as more people accept and use legal weed, mainstream tasting products are becoming very successful which is a sweet note for business owners.

Swap Your Favorite Alcohol Drink With Weed

Habits are changing especially for Millennials.  To help with the trend – we have some alternatives

Change is in the air.  The signs were there, a larger focus on health, organic foods at Walmart  and Green Wednesday rivaling drinksgiving. Alcohol consumption is on the decline among millennials, and while some cite health and expense, others are replacing their cocktails with cannabis. Want all the fun and none of the downsides?  Swap your favorite alcohol drink with weed without losing the fun and flavor. Also, no hangover and little sugar!

Just as there are a multitude of ways to partake of weed, there are many ways to consume alcohol. Below are some popular libations and possible weed replacements.

Margarita

This sweet, citrusy frozen cocktail is a classic good times go-to drink that’s refreshing, sweet and leisurely. Likewise, a fragrant, citrusy preroll is easy to pick up and enjoyed at a relaxed pace.

Fireball

The Canadian cinnamon-flavored whiskey is cinnamon-flavored whiskey that is smooth and sweet that, despite its candy-like properties is no lightweight at 66 proof. If you’re looking to “ignite the nite” with cannabis, go with a portable dab pen, which is deceptively potent in a small package, just like Fireball shooters.

Rosé

Rosé wines have become popular as of late; the versatile vino pairs well with all kinds of food, and is pleasurable on its own. These pink wines have hints of strawberries, honeydew, rose petals, often with slightly peppery and vegetal notes on the finish. If you’re the “rosé all day” type, a high CBD vaporizer with isolated terpenes will likely hit the spot.

Dad Beer

These stalwarts of the beer world are the brews hardworking dads grab from the fridge and crack open in front of the TV. Low ABV (alcohol by volume) lagers like Budweiser and Pabst Blue Ribbon are the no-frills, easy drinking beverages fathers have been quaffing since they were swiping cans from their dad’s stash. Likewise, a dad smoke is smooth, light, classic and uncomplicated.  Trends show a couple of drags from a vape can take the same journey with almost no calories.

Single Malt Scotch, Neat

A sophisticated drink, these spirits are not meant to be slammed back nor are they for the novice drinker. Scotches are sipped so as to enjoy the smoky and complex flavors containing warm hints of vanilla, pears and oak, and are sometimes enjoyed with a cigar. For a similar cannabis experience, roll a blunt using quality wraps and top shelf herb.

IPA

If you scoff at “macros” and seek only the best in craft brews, especially hop-heavy India Pale Ale (IPA) style beers with high ABV, dabs might be for you. A dab rig not only delivers a clean tasting punch, but the citrus and spicy flavors in a dab hit approximates the IPA taste profile, while the rig signals you’re quite the connoisseur.

Tequila Body Shots

A sure way to make drinking a bit more intimate, your friend becomes part of the garnish to your tequila shot as your lick salt off their skin and smooch for a lime chaser. For a comparable sensual cannabis experience, grab a bottle of infused topical creams and rub it onto your sweetheart’s skin.

Popov Vodka

Whether mixed, poured, or snorted straight out of the bottle, Popov is the drink for those don’t spend money on small batch, vapor distilled vodka. For the equivalent cannabis experience, grab an empty aluminum can and fashion yourself a carbed pipe, because a free can and some DIY is way more budget friendly than a pack of papers.

Science Weighs In On Marijuana And Being Psychotic

There are a number of myths about marijuana. For the canna-curious, you have to look at what data says to the real answer

But one of the biggest fears from those with little experience—will I have an adverse reaction to smoking pot? For the canna-newbie and the canna-curious, it might be a wee bit worrying.   Science weighs in on marijuana and being psychotic.  Ignore the myths and look at the data so you consume without a concern.

Canadian scientists tried to answer that question by determining if an individual’s genetic makeup could determine how they’d respond to THC, the cannabinoid responsible for inducing psychoactive sensations. What genetic technology expert John Lem of Lobos Genetics discovered was that genes could predict several key factors: your body’s metabolization of the drug, whether cannabis was more likely to induce paranoia into your systems, as well as the possibilities of memory loss and developing schizophrenia.

RELATED: Can I Get High From Second-Hand Marijuana Smoke?

All scientists would have to do, Lem attests, is a simple cheek swab that would test three different genes that could answer all those questions.

“Looking into the science, we came to the conclusion that there is actually a genetic basis for someone’s reaction to THC,” Lem told CBC. “”If people understand how their body reacts to cannabis, that’s a good thing,” he added.

However, another expert cautioned that such a genetic test could provide all the answers with 100% accuracy. Dr. Bernard Le Foll, a team member with the Centre of Addiction and Mental Health that created recommendations around cannabis usage, was quick to remind everyone that “there has been limited research done on cannabis.” He urged the need for tests with a larger number of participants before drawing any substantive conclusions.

In addition, Le Foll said more factors are at play when understanding the body’s reactions to a type of drug like cannabis. Maybe in the future we’ll be better at accurately predicting someone’s response to marijuana, though “we’re not there just yet.”

RELATED: The Ultimate Newbie’s Guide To Marijuana

“The type of environment, the type of previous drug exposure, the dose — that is all very important, possibly more important than genetics,” added Le Foll.

While we can’t fully know how cannabis will affect each individual, Lem added his test is only to help consumers make better decisions. As edible products hit stores this fall in Canada, it’s important people know not to take more than they need. But I’m not sure we needed a genetics test to help consumers understand not to be gluttons when using marijuana.

This led to booming sales and production as certain types of whiskey from the Americas became more popular throughout the following decades.  While vodka, wine, beer and may be more embraced, whiskey brings a warmth to the soul. Hacks To Keep Your Christmas Tree Fresh

0

The American Christmas Tree Association recommends keeping the tree away from heat sources, as well as using low heat Christmas lights.

Christmas trees are a cherished symbol of the holiday season, and the displaying of the real deal instead of a plastic tree is on the rise in North America. According to Statistics Canada, in 2016 over 1,800 farms produced trees for the $77 million dollar market, exporting the evergreens across the world.

The American Christmas Tree Association reports that in 2018 over 95 million homes displayed a tree, with 17.9% of households displaying a real tree. The industry advocacy group has a few pointers on how to keep your Christmas tree fresh and thriving throughout the holiday season.

Water is crucial to keeping a tree green and fresh while displaying it in the home. The NCTA recommends fitting the tree in a traditional stand with a water reservoir that holds at least a quart of water for every inch in tree diameter.

Other tips include making a fresh, half inch cut perpendicular to the axis before setting it in the stand. A fancy V-cut is unnecessary, can make the tree unstable, and actually reduces the tree’s ability to absorb water. Keeping the outer layer of bark intact will also help the tree absorb and retain more water.

Keeping the tree away from heat sources such as fireplaces, heaters, HVAC vents, and direct sunlight is also a good idea, as is using low heat Christmas lights, and monitoring the water level in the stand, ensuring that the water does not go below the base of the tree.

Other safety tips include never leaving decorative lights turned on when away from home, always inspect light sets before using, do not overload electrical circuits, and promptly remove dry trees from the house.

Lastly, never dispose of a Christmas tree by burning it in a fireplace. The small, dry needles can ignite and burn uncontrollably fast, and send sparks all over the house, quickly setting everything in the domicile on fire. The high sap content can burn hot and long enough to set chimney deposits aflame, starting a flue blaze that can spread rapidly. It’s also unnecessary, as many communities have recycling programs available to households.

  • 1 Tbsp hops
  • 1 Tbsp dried mint

It’s also worth keeping these items around, as they are wonderful for garnishing and engaging your sense of smell. For a tea blend, their pleasant flavors help to relax and surround you with their smell, taste, and potentially sleep serenading properties.

Decide on finely ground decarboxylated cannabis stirred into hot milk as your cannabis dose, or you can use tincture for THC. Both are OK, but don’t forget you won’t get any THC from just pouring water over ground cannabis, though you might get some terpenes and lower on the heat spectrum cannabinoids, and those also have their own sleep magic to them.

Use either the proportions above, or prepare a blend to your liking of lightly chopped flowers. You can leave them whole for prettiness if you wish. Anything that is good for sleep can go in this blend. If using ground cannabis add to the blend, make sure it’s very finely ground and has been heated as if you were making cannabutter. Divide the tea blend into two portions or put into a classic teapot. Pour over water and allow to brew for 5 minutes before adding sweetener and sipping. If using tincture add now.

Alternatively, you can prepare a milky tea concentrate in the style of an Indian chai latte or Middle Eastern rose tea. Add aromatics and cannabis to a saucepan with milk, and some honey, simmer for 5-10 minutes, strain, serve with sweeteners and add hot water. This will get you a bit more cannabinoids, and if you simmer longer you’ll eventually get THC as well. Always use care with milk on a stovetop.

*Cannabis Glycerin Tincture

Decarboxylate 3.5g of finely ground cannabis at 225 degrees for 20 minutes in a tightly sealed, oven safe container. Put cannabis in lidded mason jar or vacuum sealed bag with cannabis and ½ cup vegetable glycerin. Heat in water bath just under boiling for at least 1 hour. Strain and chill to use in recipes Get to sleep faster when you have a busy day ahead, and if you’re trying to keep the bedroom smoke free but need that helper, this way is an excellent choice. You can make the dry herb blend in big batches, if you like it, and either add tincture for a medicated sweetener or steamed milk to wake up the lower cannabinoids.

Yacht Rock Pairs Perfectly With Cocktails

Nothing sets the mood better than music – and Yacht Rock is still a star

The anthem is Come Sail Away by Styx is the perfect anthem for a dark, cold winter night.  Dreams of a beach, a boat, and escaping helps some survive the winter.  Well, Yacht Rock pairs perfect with cocktails in the summer and evening. Yacht rock is unique music style and aesthetic commonly associated with soft rock, one of the most commercially successful genres from the mid-1970s to the mid-1980s. Millennials to boomers have savored the sounds while enjoying drink.

Typified by artists like Christopher Cross, Rupert Holmes, and Pablo Cruise, Yacht Rock is  highlight the casual approach to love, life and a laid back life. Despite being a un-pc, the stuff is irresistible on days you are craving escape. It reeks of sunshine and laziness.

Yacht Rock is nuanced and usually one of the key themes. They are finding the love of your life, having a memorable one-night stand or doing something nautical. Jimmy Buffet and the beach focus is not usually in the genre.

“Yacht rock is the new hipster music. We have a yacht rock playlist at one of our restaurants, Huckleberry Square and we constantly get comments from all generations about how great the music is. At another one of our places, the notorious dove diner The 5 Point Cafe, when the music switches from the usual punk and metal, to yacht rock, people think it’s amazing, like something they’ve never heard. It’s chill nostalgic and fun goes great with cocktails, what more can you ask for?” shares David Meinert, owner of several successful Seattle bars and restaurants.

“The Pina Colada Song” is arguably the most perfect embodiment of yacht rock, fulfilling, as it does, all three of the qualifications cited above. Holmes sings about making love in the dunes, attempts to cheat on his wife, then ultimately, rediscovers that his “old lady” is actually the love he’s been searching for all along. That’s the holy trinity of Yacht Rock themes, all wrapped up in a breezy story of casual adultery.

To set the mood, here is a recipe for the ideal yacht rock drinks

Marijuana Reduces Migraine Pain

Almost 10% of the population suffers from migraines.  But maybe marijuana can help

They are incredibly disablitating, migraines occurs most often among people aged 20 – 50 years, and are 3 times more common with women.  Roughly 10% of the population will get one.  Around 95% of the population will get a headache.  The most common headaches include tension-type headaches (must frequent), cluster headaches, and persistent headaches (NDPH). This doesn’t include alcohol and food related headaches.  A migraine  differed stands out since it is neurological condition causing a variety of symptoms, most notably a throbbing headache on one side of your head. Migraines often get worse with physical activity, lights, sounds or smells. They usually last at least four hours or even days.

Data suggests marijuana may reduce migraine pain and be the best over the counter relief. More research needs to be done, but early studies show promise. Published in The Journal of Pain, the first study to utilize big data in analyzing the role cannabis plays in managing pain from headaches and migraines. Using archival data from the Strainprint—an app in which patients track their symptoms before and after using medical marijuana—scientists determined inhaled marijuana reduced the severity of self-reported pain 47.3% for headaches and 49.6% for migraines.

“We were motivated to do this study because a substantial number of people say they use cannabis for headache and migraine, but surprisingly few studies had addressed the topic,” said study lead author Carrie Cuttler, an assistant professor of psychology at Washington State University.

RELATED: What You Need To Know About The Healing Benefits Of Marijuana’s CBG

Instead of documenting the before and after data points in real time, previous research asked patients to recall how marijuana affected the severity of past headaches. A clinical trial, as Science Daily first reported, found that cannabis could be more effective at reducing headache pain than ibuprofen, though the researchers used nabilone, a synthetic cannabinoid drug, in the trial.

Study Finds Cannabis Use Disorder Declining Among Daily Marijuana Users

However, in the Washington State study, 1,300 patients who used the app more than 12,200 times submitted information about their headache before and after marijuana use, while 653 patients used the app over 7,400 times to track their changes in migraine pain.

More conventional treatments can cause an “overuse headache,” which can cause patients’ headaches to worsen over time. But researchers found no such result in patients using cannabis. They did, however, find patients consuming more marijuana over time, indicating they may be developing a tolerance to the plant. In addition, the study reported a difference in headache reduction between genders, with significantly more sessions involving men (90%) than women (89.1%).

RELATED: Consuming Medical Marijuana Is Proven To Help Migraine Sufferers

Patients received no additional benefits when using cannabis strains with higher or lower THC and CBD concentrations. As the plant contains more than 100 cannabinoids outside THC and CBD, researchers believe this indicates other cannabis elements like terpenes could be playing a factor. The study did report concentrates, like oil, elicited stronger decreases in headache severity than marijuana flower.

“I suspect there are some slight overestimates of effectiveness,” Cuttler said. “My hope is this research will motivate researchers to take on the difficult work of conducting placebo-controlled trials. In the meantime, this at least gives medical cannabis patients and their doctors a little more information about what they might expect from using cannabis to manage these conditions.”

Simple Explanation Of Weed Dosage

For the canna-casual or the canna-newbie, dosage has a huge impact on the journey – here is it simply explained.

California sober, gummies for anxiety, discreet vaping instead of alcohol for weight loss, marijuana use has a whole new consumer population and it is only getting bigger.  Even Governor Desantis‘s nanny state of Florida has 70% of the population who want explained marijuana availably. But for those new to using cannabis, understand the strength is key, here is a simple explanation of weed dosage.

Dosage is similar to alcohol proof. While proof is a measure of the alcohol content of a beverage, dosage indicates strength. New users should lean toward the low side to ensure a good journey or relief (depending on why you are consuming).

RELATED: People Who Use Weed Also Do More Of Another Fun Thing

How you consume can also account for the effect, flower, vapes and edibles all hit you a wee bit different. When you consume an edible, the cannabinoids are processed through the liver and stomach, not the lungs, so pay attention to the guide.  It can also take 40-90 minutes to hit, so relax and don’t take more until you have started the trip.

Here is a general guideline for dosage.

THC Dosage: 1 – 2.5 mg

Mild relief of symptoms including pain, stress, and anxiety; heightened focus and creativity. Great for first-time consumers, or more experienced consumers interested in microdosing.

THC Dosage: 2.5 – 15 mg

tronger relief of symptoms; euphoria; impacted coordination and perception. Great for stubborn symptoms not affected by smaller doses; potential treatment for sleep issues.

THC Dosage: 30 – 50 mg

Strong euphoria; significantly impacted coordination and perception. Great for consumers with a high tolerance for THC, or whose GI systems don’t absorb cannabinoids well.

THC Dosage: 50 – 100 mg

Seriously impacted coordination and perception; possible unpleasant side effects including nausea and increased heart rate. This is considered a high dosage appropriate for treating challenging conditions and symptoms, or for those who have high THC tolerance.

Do You Know Where Your Weed Comes From

You trust your local dispensary or your “guy” – but do you know  about the marijuana?

Legalization continues to march across the US.  Currently, over 50% of citizens have access to approved recreational marijuana and more for medical marijuana.  Even in Florida, the DeSantis nanny state, citizens are balking at his cannabis restrictions with over 70% supporting the industry being expanded and available to more people. But do you know where your weed comes from?

A key consumer benefit from federal legalization is the tracking and security of weed and products.  Like canned tuna, In-N-Out Burgers, and Stoli Vodka, consumers will not have a worry about how their weed was grown and what was in it – and who is behind it.

Two big concerns now is the unlicensed dispensaries in NYC and China’s muscling into the US black market. Both are reasons to be careful if you aren’t buying from a legal dispensary.

Mexican cartels have long been the villain of the US drug trade, but with consumer spending soaring, Chinese investors have become the funder and producer of the illegal marijuana production.

From interviews with state law enforcement officials, experts on the international drug trade, economists and lawmakers it seems the number of farms funded by sources traceable back to Chinese investors or owners has skyrocketed. Chinese owners and workers have become a larger presence at illegal grows in Oklahoma, California and Oregon

In Oklahoma, over 40% of licensed marijuana farms have been flagged for suspicious activity by law enforcement over the last year. They. are now being investigated for obtaining their licenses fraudulently and/or for selling into the illicit market, according to Mark Woodward, spokesperson for the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics.

RELATED: 8 Ways to Enjoy Marijuana Without Smoking It

The major issue is New York City’s unlicensed dispensaries.  The NY market is significant and retailers are thought to have almost $500 million in products which are being flipped.  It is believed many of these products have fake labeling claiming what is in the product OR are real products illegally shipped from California or other states.

California Governor Gavin Newsom, with an eye on the national stage, has signed a series of laws with the hope of cleaning up some of the state’s mess around the cannabis market.  The primary issues is over taxation and zero enforcement of illicit grows.  Legal organization have suffered as the states asks for more and more and the black market has boomed.

Do you know where your weed comes from – is it safe, does it support small business and it is the dosage it claims?
