Tucker Carlson: House Passed Marijuana Banking Bill To Make Americans Dumb

Tucker Carlson stokes ‘Reefer Madness’ fires again, labeling the SAFE Banking Act as a nefarious conspiracy to ruin America.

Last month, the House of Representatives passed a historic banking bill through Republican and Democrat support. Known as the SAFE Banking Act, the legislation would provide financial institutions working with legal marijuana businesses sanctuary from criminal prosecution. The measure would go a long way to securing and stabilizing the cannabis industry, which has long requested for such financial protections from the federal government.

Despite the bipartisan support for the bill, worry remains the legislation will stall in the Republican-controlled Senate. While the idea of our political parties reaching across the aisle on an issue like this should encourage many Americans, FOX News host Tucker Carlson isn’t having any of it. He believes the SAFE Banking Act only helps “weed dealers.” Furthermore, the only reason Congress would pass a bill like this is because they “want you to be dumb” by smoking marijuana.

“Even though marijuana is still illegal federally, the bill would allow banks and credit unions to provide banking services to people who deal marijuana,” he said. “In the middle of the deadliest drug epidemic in our history, the only thing Congress can agree on is it ought to be easier to sell drugs to Americans.”

Carlson went on to critique the motivations behind the bipartisan support for the SAFE Banking Act. Instead of viewing it as means to eliminate nefarious black market players and allow small businesses in the cannabis industry the same financial advantages other small businesses receive in every other industry, Carlson believes the measure is all about greed.

“One, a small number are getting very rich doing it. The former Republican Speaker is now a weed lobbyist,” Carlson said, in reference to John Boehner. “And for another, when you mismanage the country this badly, you want the people to be so out of it they don’t respond. That is really true. They want you to be dumb.”

“Choose sobriety so you can be awake enough to critique them and the crappy job they’re doing,” he added.

But the SAFE Banking Act has no association with Americans using cannabis. “The SAFE Banking Act does not legalize cannabis, it solves a narrow and specific public safety and policy question,” Randal Meyer, executive director for the Global Alliance for Cannabis Commerce, told The Hill.

As Marijuana Moment first noted, the bill also has been publicly endorsed by a majority of state attorneys general, the National Association of State Treasurers, 50 state banking associations, and bipartisan governors of 20 states.

5 Tips That’ll Help You Eat Better After Working Out

An intense workout shouldn’t give you license to eat burgers and fries. Here are 5 tips that can help you preserve the work you did at the gym.

Completing a workout feels great, especially when you get ravenously hungry and feel like you deserve to treat yourself with something caloric and delicious. Sadly, we tend to overestimate the amount of exercise we do, resulting in us eating more calories than we burned in the first place.

The body works in interesting ways after finishing a workout. If you were hungry before working out, all the strain and effort once you begin to move will force your blood to other parts of your body, making you forget your hunger for the duration of your exercise and maybe for a couple of hours afterwards. Now, once you get hungry, expect some intense cravings that will be hard to manage.

Here are five things you can do to eat healthy-ish and preserve your hard work at the gym:

Don’t force yourself to eat

Some athletes believe they should eat within an hour after their workouts, increasing their muscle gain. Sometimes the body doesn’t work that way and you shouldn’t force yourself to eat if you don’t want to. If you worked out and are not feeling hungry it’s totally natural; focus on hydrating and eat once you want to.

Avoid rewards

After a tough session in the gym it’s natural to crave burgers and milkshakes. While you can do this on occasions, you shouldn’t make a habit of this. No matter how hard you worked out, it’s likely that you’ll lose most (if not all) of your work by going to the nearest McDonald’s. Think with your brain and not with your stomach.

Hydrate

Before, during and after a work out it’s important to hydrate your body. Doing this will help your body recover and will make it easier for you to work out the next day and avoid sore muscles. While some athletes weight themselves before and after they work out – that way knowing how much liquids they need to drink – a simple way of keeping track of your hydration is to keep an eye on the color of your urine. You should be aiming for a clear yellow.

Replenish what your body lost

Your post work out meal should replenish the elements your body lost while working out. You’re mainly going to need proteins, carbs, sodium, potassium and water.

Stock up on proteins and veggies

Healthline recommends a meal that contains protein, carbohydrates and healthy fats. Foods like oatmeal, yogurt, quinoa, avocado, and more, contain plenty of nutrients that your body will soak up after a workout.

How 5 People Cover Up The Marijuana Smell

Though us consumers may love the intricate and unique smell of each type of cannabis we consume, we want to exist under the radar sometimes. Let these tips help you stay low key.

As commonplace and cool as cannabis is becoming, it’s still not welcome everywhere. It’s also pretty illegal to partake publicly, especially when traveling or visiting a new place. Covering up those fragrant clouds that give you pleasure may be the only way to indulge when in the presence of haters and people that can get you in trouble.

Masking weed smells is pretty new in the context of weed. We’ve had weed in sarcophagi of ancient Egyptians for 5000 years but prohibition for less that 100 years. Rest assured that won’t last for too much longer as we pass the tipping point of legalization and hopefully normalization.

“I use essential oils to cover the smell of cannabis, generally I’ll put some lavender on the back of my right hand and maybe some lemon balm on the back of my left hand and if someone asks I tell them I’m an EO freak and I wear a ton of them and the combination MAYBE smells like marijuana to them. And I let them smell the two hands independently if they want ([this]has happened 2 out of 100 times). At home I use essential oils in a diffuser or burn sage or Palo Santo.”

Rena, Singer, New York

“In desperate times i’ve boiled fabuloso because it smells so strong that it will literally cover up any smell (i don’t recommend anyone boil chemicals lol). I’ve stopped caring about covering the smell of weed now, so these days I just light an incense after I smoke.”

“As much as I love the smell of a smoking session I also want to be courteous of my neighbors. I crack open a window and I burn my Fern + Moss Candle by Brooklyn Candle Studios. It’s in my web shop as the only candle because I really did test it to make sure that it covered up the weed smell but not in a way that made the weed smell worse. It’s a green, natural scent and really plays with the aroma of weed—- if anyone comes knocking I can says it’s my candle.”

What Impact Does Marijuana Production Have On The Ozone?

As the cannabis industry continues to grow, it’s important to minimize environmental harm.

Legalization has opened the floodgates to cannabis production. More marijuana is being produced and smoked than ever before, leading some researchers to questions what impact all that cannabis has on the ozone. But it’s not the clouds of smoke from joints and pipes that concern scientists.

Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment researchers have narrowed its focus on terpenes, which are classified as volatile organic compounds. When VOCs interact with other pollutants and the sun, it accentuates the ozone problem. Other commons VOCs, like lavender, are often grown in rural areas. But cannabis is chiefly produced in cities under greenhouse conditions, allowing its VOCs to mix with other pollution in the air.

Typically, this responsibility would fall on the Environmental Protection Agency. Whenever new industries start, they monitor emissions and set guidelines to minimize environmental impact. But because cannabis remains federally illegal, it prohibits the EPA from getting involved. That’s why Colorado is taking it upon itself to monitor marijuana’s possible ozone problem.

“Here in Colorado, as far as air quality concerns go, ozone is our largest pollutant of concern. We are not meeting the national ambient air quality standards for ozone,” Kaitlin Urso, CDPHE’s lead researcher on the project, told Colorado Public Radio.

Urso clarified their research isn’t intended to shame the cannabis industry. Instead the goal is to help a new industry, establishing new guidelines and regulations, to become more efficient in how it operates. She went through a similar process with craft beer several years back when the state grew from 100 craft breweries in 2011 to more than 400 now.

One solution the state already offered cannabis growers was the use of carbon filters to process and limit harmful VOCs. While many grows already utilize carbon filters to eliminate smell, they reduce VOCs simultaneously. As CPR first reported, the results of the CDPHE study is expected to be available in 2020.

5 Things Doctors Know About CBD

CBD is incredibly popular, but a lot of questions surrounding the compound remain unanswered. Here are some science supported facts.

Despite CBD’s lack of research and its relative newness, we’ve seen an increase in demand for the compound, with new infused products hitting retailers every day. We know cannabidiol is a good addition to skin and beauty products because of its medicinal properties, and that it produces relaxing results when consumed as a supplement. But where’s the science?

The fact that CBD is so new and mysterious has allowed for some misinformation to slip in, with many companies calling it a miracle drug that can fix anything and everything. This confusion also has led to hundreds of knock-off products that claim to contain CBD, while they don’t actually contain enough to produce an effect.

The Huffington Post spoke to experts regarding CBD, trying to separate fact from fiction. Here are some of the effects that have some scientific support.

CBD can reduce inflammation

CBD attaches itself indirectly to cannabinoid receptors in the body, which could lead to less inflammation. Dr. Rahul Klare says that the compound might work best as a compliment to another medication, helping people manage their symptoms and pain. “CBD won’t completely take the pain away like a morphine would, but it may decrease it to a point where it makes the pain more tolerable,” he explains.

It can help manage anxiety

Studies show that CBD can affect your emotional state, managing short term disorders like anxiety, panic disorder, social anxiety and more. A study from the University of Montana says that CBD attaches itself to a serotonin 1A receptor in the brain, producing these anxiety relieving results. Another interesting discovery is the fact that, with a little THC, CBD’s effects are even more pronounced.

It could help with gastrointestinal issues

A little known fact is that CBD has shown some promise in treating gastrointestinal issues, particularly the ones caused by gastroesophageal reflux disease. The Huffington Post explains: “Cannabinoid receptor antagonists (AKA parts of CBD that bind to those cannabinoid receptors in your body discussed earlier) decreased relaxation in the lower esophageal sphincter. When the lower esophageal sphincter relaxes too much, it can often lead to acid reflux.” TLDR: By decreasing relaxation of the sphincter, CBD can also limit acid reflux and similar symptoms.

CBD could have an adverse reaction to other medicines

Doctors explained that CBD in high doses could have a negative and maybe even dangerous reaction with conventional medicines, especially if the person taking them is older or consuming multiple medications. It’s important for you to be careful and to talk to your doctor if you’re considering pairing CBD with a prescribed medication.

It may also cause nausea

CBD has been related to nausea, especially when consumed in high doses. Making matters more complicated, CBD is also particularly hard to dose, with experts and authorities not setting a dosing standard. As always, if you’re consuming CBD or planning on doing it, start off slow and listen to your body.

This Week’s Music: Lindsay Lohan, Samantha Urbani And The Knocks

This week’s music includes the return of Lindsay Lohan and new singles from Samantha Urbani and The Knocks.

This Week’s Music is a weekly column that discusses the weeks’ best, worst, and most interesting songs. We try to select songs of different artists and genres to keep things interesting and to please a variety of music fans.

This week was an uneventful one for music, with lowkey releases from The Knocks and Samantha Urbani, and the somehow not covered at all musical comeback of Lindsay Lohan.

Pop

Lindsay Lohan – Xanax

Lindsay Lohan’s notorious music career isn’t as populated as you’d think. She released two albums in the early 2000’s, and sang some songs for her Disney films. Now, almost two decades later, Lohan returns to the music scene without the support of Disney or her rabid fanbase, resulting in a song that’s called “Xanax.” It features an EDM beat and Lohan’s ever youthful vocals but that’s about it for individualities. It’s a bad song, with stock beats and lyrics, but it’s an improvement over social media videos where she’s attempting to kidnap kids. Good for her.

Samantha Urbani – Made In Love

“Made In Love” is Samantha Urbani’s first single of the year, and despite a cheesy title and some lyrics that shouldn’t work, the song comes together surprisingly well. The song features different breezy and surreal sounds that blend well together, made better thanks to Urbani’s lovely vocals. There’s an undercurrent of sincerity in her writing that makes “Made In Love” into a stand out pop song.

Electronic

The Knocks – New York Luau (KC Lights Remix)

The Knocks, an electronic duo from New York, are known for their remixes of popular songs, but they also produce some really elaborate and fun singles. “New York Luau” is a rich song, filled with different instruments and rhythms, jumping around from one mood to the next. The KC Remix version is stripped down and less experimental, more centered on a house party mood.

Debunking 6 Popular Myths About Today’s Marijuana

We now have more information about marijuana than ever, but there are still a bunch of myths that influence the way in which we view the herb.

There are a lot of myths surrounding marijuana, ranging from crazy stuff to others that makes a little bit of sense. This confusion is understandable; it’s only recently that marijuana has earned some legal status across states, and that serious scientific studies are being conducted.

Although much of marijuana’s make up and effect remain mysterious, there’s lots of room to learn more. We scoured the web to find some of the most popular marijuana myths. Here are six of the most common.

Weed isn’t as strong as it used to be

According to Ryan Vandrey, a professor from John Hopkins University, THC in cannabis is way higher than it used to be. Since cannabis is now a business, there are expert botanists that breed plants that contain larger quantities of THC. So maybe people smoked more weed in the 70s, but that doesn’t make today’s marijuana any less potent.

All weed is the same

There are two major types of marijuana, Indica and Sativa, both of which produce different highs. In short, Sativas are psychoactive while Indicas are more relaxing. It’s a little more complicated than that, since most marijuana plants contain a mix of both, but this generally works as a rule of thumb.

Synthetic marijuana is safe

Synthetic marijuana is much stronger than regular marijuana and it can lead to some really awful side effects. Synthetic marijuana has chemicals added in in order to resemble the effect and look of natural marijuana. These chemicals are harmful for your body, with some of the most serious side effects include renal damage, psychosis, cardiovascular harm and changes in the brain.

You can overdose on marijuana

It’s extremely unlikely to die from a marijuana overdose, but if you smoke too much you can have a pretty awful time. These overdoses can last a couple of hours and include symptoms of anxiety, paranoia, dizziness, and loss of coordination.

You can cheat a urine test

While there are tons of products that claim to do this, it’s very, very unlikely and practically impossible to cheat a urine test if there’s marijuana in your system. THC can be detected in urine for up to 10 days after consumption, 30 days if you’re a chronic user. Most products that claim to cheat urine tests simply dilute your urine, which tests can pick up on, flagging your sample as invalid.

Holland has never legalized marijuana

Holland, one of the world’s most popular marijuana scenes, has never actually legalized marijuana. In 1978, the government decided not to enforce bans in coffee shops and locales where people get together and smoke/sell small amounts of marijuana. Still, growing, distributing and importing marijuana within the country remains illegal.

5 Tips To Prepare Your Finances For The Holiday Season

0

The holiday season is one of the most expensive times for traveling and shopping. Here are some things you can do to save some money and have a good time.

The holidays are great time, filled with family reunions, food, alcohol, presents and trips. The one thing they all have in common? Money.

As exciting as the holiday season is, one of it’s main drawbacks is the stress that comes with stretching your money and ensuring that you have the right amounts to do everything you kind of have to do.

Here are five tips that can help you plan around the holiday season and ensure you’re not paying off debts come next Thanksgiving:

Plan ahead and start early

Now that October is beginning and everyone is decking out their best Halloween themed things, make sure you start accounting for your holiday trips and expenses. Spend your money wisely and think twice before impulse shopping. The earlier you start planning ahead, the easier everything will go, finding cheaper presents, flight tickets and more.

Book your flights as soon as possible

The first thing you should do is book your trip, allowing you to get the best possible price. If you’re using a site like Kayak or Momondo, be sure to visit the site regularly and pay close attention to their price estimates. Plane tickets around this time of the year tend to fluctuate on a day to day basis. If you see a good price, buy it. It’ll likely be gone within the hour.

Use technology to your advantage

Make a budget for the holidays or keep track of your spending with the help of a website like Mint. This will notify you when you’re spending too much money and don’t have the luxury to do so. Your budget should include travel expenses – plane ticket, gas money, car rental, hotels, Ubers, etc. You can also include your budget for presents and your plans for going out to dinners and drinks. Don’t be too strict because it’s the holidays and you want to have fun, but also, don’t be too lenient.

Make a shopping list

If you have a big family then it’s time you start putting together that shopping list, looking for presents that the person will like and that are also worth their price. The worse thing you can do is wait until the last minute and panic shop: this will result in a shitty and expensive gift.

Make a plan for your credit card debt

Although the worst thing you can do is get in debt because of the holidays, it happens, and that’s okay. If you’ve had debts all year, be sure to at least make the minimum credit card payments so that it doesn’t build up. Look for flight tickets and shops that allow you pay for things in different payments, that way you’ll have a bigger grip on your money and won’t allow your budget to get too out of control. It’s also okay to have some fun and to owe a little more money than usual. It is the holidays and you can cut yourself some slack.

The Majority Of Americans Support Decriminalizing All Drugs

A new poll demonstrates shifting views on how to treat drug offenses in the country. Instead of jail time, most Americans favor recategorizing drug offenses.

In news that would’ve seemed inconceivable a decade ago, a new poll from libertarian think tank The Cato Institute found that 55% of American favor drug offenses not resulting in jail time. Instead, the majority of Americans favor “recategorizing drug offenses from felonies to civil offenses.” This would result in drug possession violations to “be treated like minor traffic violations rather than crimes.”

The news falls in line with a new trend of enforcing drug laws across the country. Last year, a Gallup poll reported that two-thirds of all Americans support legalizing marijuana. It also coincides with major American cities where cannabis has been legalized, like Seattle and San Francisco, expunging past marijuana convictions.

RELATED: Marijuana Legalization Would Eliminate Drug Smuggling Better Than Trump’s Wall

Unsurprisingly, the support for decriminalizing all drugs was favored more by Democrats (69%) and Independents (54%) than Republicans (40%) in the Cato Institute’s polling. To reach these conclusions, the Cato Institute surveyed more than 1,700 Americans through phone calls. Respondents were then asked whether they “favor or oppose re-categorizing drug offenses from felonies to civil offenses, meaning they would be treated like minor traffic violations rather than crimes.”

The questions comes at a time when American political leaders have reconsidered the negative impact brought by the War on Drugs, particularly on disenfranchised communities of color. Many presidential candidates for the Democratic nomination have announced they’d legalize marijuana should they be elected. Sen. Kamala Harris and former Rep. Beto O’Rourke have displayed the most aggressive marijuana reform, with O’Rourke calling for drug war reparations.

In addition, a Canadian lawmaker recently proposed legislation that would repeal federal law that prohibits the possession of illicit substances. Though Liberal MP Nathaniel Erskine-Smith’s bill has a low chance of passing, it would effectively decriminalize all drugs in the country. Erskine-Smith believes drug offenses and addiction as a public health issue, not as a crime.
