Vegas Approves Marijuana Lounges

While marijuana legalization is now taking hold in a growing number of states across the country, very few jurisdictions allow people to consume the herb anywhere except for the privacy of their own home. For those cannabis users living in these places, the attitude toward this issue is mostly “C’est la vie.” They are just happy the cops aren’t going to kick down their doors anymore. But in spots where toker tourism is thriving on the heels of legalization, not having any designated areas for patrons to consume legal weed is problematic. Only in Sin City, Vegas approves marijuana lounges.

Not only does it encourage cannabis consumers to break the law by smoking weed in public areas, it also puts them at risk of getting slapped with a hefty hotel cleaning bill if they fire one up in their room. It’s an issue that Las Vegas officials are hoping they can remedy before the end of the summer travel season.

It was just earlier this week that the Las Vegas City Council approved a measure that would allow cannabis lounges to open up in Sin City. This is a first for Nevada. Although the state legalized the leaf for recreational consumption back in 2016, coming complete with a provision giving local governments the option of allowing public consumption sites, no other jurisdiction – not even those with legal brothels – has made a move to bring cannabis lounges to fruition. But then again, it makes sense for Vegas – a place that sees 39 million tourists every year – to christen social pot use. After all, if it can work in Vegas, it can work anywhere. At least most think so.

The bill, which was sponsored by Councilman Bob Coffin, passed by a vote of 4-1. The only opposing force on the matter was Councilman Stavros Anthony – a retired captain of the Metropolitan Police Department – who doesn’t believe the city should operate any different than the state. “It can’t just be the city of Las Vegas,” Anthony said, according to a report from the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Yet, the consensus in favor of the measure was that the state will eventually catch up. “We can’t wait for the state to act,” Coffin said.

The measure allows around 20 or so cannabis lounges to open citywide. These establishments must be at least 1,000 feet away from schools and casinos and at least 300 feet away from churches. Of course, per state law, only patrons 21 and older will be allowed to set foot in these places. And unlike a bar setting, which serves alcohol, none of the lounges will be permitted to sell marijuana. It’s a Bring Your Own Weed type of situation. However, the lounges can sell paraphernalia, so it’s not like patrons have to bring along their own stoner arsenal to use these facilities.

And no, there’s no alcohol permitted. Although the council did discuss the possibility of allowing booze sales in these establishments, the idea was nixed from the final deal.

As it stands, only Alaska,Denver, Colorado and San Francisco, California have some type of law allowing cannabis lounges.

Vegas officials think it could take a few months before cannabis lounges are licensed and ready to go.

For those patrons looking to catch a buzz before hitting up the casinos along the strip, watch out. Last year, the Nevada Gaming Commission amended its rule on gambling while intoxicated to include marijuana. This means if a person is “noticeably intoxicated” (they’ll be looking at your eyes), they could risk being tossed out. “We want to make it crystal-clear across the board under all regulations that ‘impairment’ is not just alcohol; it’s being impaired by drugs,” said NGA Chairman Tony Alamo.

Vegas also will open a new art/marijuana museum – Cannabition.  So while Elvis may have left, Sin City is still a hunk a hunk of fun!

Selena Gomez Unveils Bikini Designed To Hide Transplant Scar; Justin Bieber Slams Eminem For ‘Dissing New Rappers’

Selena Gomez unveils bikini designed to hide kidney transplant scar

Via Fox News:

Singer and actress Selena Gomez said she’s designed a bathing suit that would cover kidney transplant scars — including her own — as a part of a new swimwear brand started by close friend Theresa Mingus.

Gomez posted part of a video to her Instagram where she discussed the inspiration behind one of the swimsuits that will be featured in Mingus’ new brand, Krahs.

“I did really have a good time designing. It was fun,” the 26-year-old star said of the high-waisted bikini that features a belt.

“I’ve had a kidney transplant and I like bathing suits that kinda cover where that’s been and make me feel comfortable.”’

Gomez, who in 2015 opened up her ongoing battle with lupus, underwent kidney transplant surgery in 2017. Later that same year, she revealed that the donor of that kidney was good friend Francia Raisa.

Justin Bieber slams Eminem for ‘dissing new rappers’

Via Fox News:

After releasing a new surprise album, titled ‘Kamikaze,’ Eminem appeared to reignite his feud with President Trump, with some of his new songs taking jabs at the commander in chief.

Sorry, Eminem, Justin Bieber doesn’t like that you’re “dissing new rappers.”

Justin Bieber slammed Eminem for hating on the new generation of rappers and said the “Bad Influence” singer just “doesn’t understand.” Bieber gave his thoughts on Eminem in his Instagram Stories.

“I JUST LIKE EMS FLOW BUT DON’T LIKE THAT HE’S DISSING NEW RAPPERS,” Bieber wrote Wednesday. “I LIKE THE NEW GENERATION OF RAP. HE JUST DOESN’T UNDERSTAND IT.”

Bieber didn’t go into detail on what he was referencing, but Eminem has been known to call out rappers such as Drake, Lil Pump, Lil Yachty, Tyler the Creator and Machine Gun Kelly.

Eminem even mentioned Bieber in his 11-minute freestyle “Kick Off” he released last December.

“Justin Bieber in a Catholic school / Selling dust and reefer when your back is to him,” he raps.

In his 2018 album, “Kamikaze,” Eminem held nothing back and attacked a plethora of notable figures, from rappers to President Trump. In the song “Fall” off his 2018 album “Kamikaze,” Eminem called Tyler the Creator a “f—-t.”

“Tyler create nothin’, I see why you called yourself a f—t, b—h,” Eminem raps in the song. “It’s not just ’cause you lack attention / It’s ’cause you worship D12’s balls, you’re sacrilegious / If you’re gonna critique me, you better at least be as good or better.”

In the track “Killshot,” Eminem takes aim at Machine Gun Kelly, who earlier released the song “Rap Devil” dissing the “Love the Way You Lie” singer.

“You sound like a b—h, b—h,” Eminem raps in the first line. He later raps, “You ain’t never made a list next to no Biggy, no Jay, next to Taylor Swift and that Iggy ho, you about to really blow.”

Facebook Brags Its AI Can Differentiate Between Marijuana And Broccoli

To brag about how absolutely dope its artificial intelligence is, Facebook showed that its AI could detect the difference between tempura broccoli and cannabis flower at the company’s F8 developer conference. See, other AIs just aren’t this dope. Other AIs might think marijuana and broccoli are the same thing — which, to be fair, so do stoners.

The demonstration during Facebook CTO Mike Schroepfer’s keynote was to show the lengths the company is now going to curb some of the worst problems on its platform, including hate speech, misinformation, and inappropriate videos. Though Schroepfer admitted AI couldn’t fix all the company’s “complex problems,” this new AI program could detect “policy-violating content,” which might include someone selling marijuana on Facebook.

In the past, Facebook relied on behavioral signals to detect people selling cannabis on the platform. But the new visual algorithm Facebook’s developers created is more able to sift through some of the workarounds bad agents would employ, like obscuring packaging or hiding product in baked goods.

RELATED: Universities Should Study Marijuana, Says Congressman

“This is an intensely adversarial game,” Schroepfer said, according to CNET. “We build a new technique, we deploy it, people work hard to try to figure out ways around this.”

Now, when comparing two similar looking items like broccoli tempura and cannabis flower, “the visual algorithm was 94 percent sure that the marijuana was, in fact, marijuana, and 88 percent sure that the other image was the broccoli,” writes Marijuana Moment.

Whether this will all factor into Facebook’s decision to lift its restrictions on marijuana-related content for legitimate companies and influences remains to be seen.

Cannabis Products Helping Fight Eczema

According to The National Eczema Association, cannabis indeed has properties to combat the itchiness and appearance of eczema, especially atopic dermatitis (AD). However, not all topicals are created equal and you’ll want to be sure that there aren’t any irritants in the salve or cream. The focus should be on reducing pain and inflammation, not on smelling divine (though they are not mutually exclusive). Here are 5 cannabis products helping fight eczema.

Oprah’s Baby Gift For Meghan And Harry Is So Oprah

The only gift Oprah Winfrey ever needs to give anyone is knowing who you are. When Oprah knows your name, isn’t that gift enough? But the 65-year-old mogul doesn’t have her name stamped on a popular book club for nothing. She loves to learn, and she obviously wants the same to be true for anyone new unto this world. And that goes for Baby Sussex.

On Tuesday, Oprah told  “Access Hollywood” that she knows exactly what she’s going to gift Meghan Markle and Prince Harry when their baby arrives, because she gives the same thing to every new parent. Said Oprah:

Oh, honey, I have a standard gift that I do for people that I really care about. I don’t know the baby’s name or the baby’s gender, but this baby will have enough books to last a lifetime.

It’s no secret Harry and Meghan are both fans of books. Back in 2016 when Meghan still had her lifestyle blog, The Tig, she wrote about the five books that changed her life. They range from The Tao of Pooh to The Motivation Manifesto.

And Harry dropped $10K on a first edition Winnie the Pooh book for his nephew, Prince Louis’s christening. According to The Sun, Harry plans to start a library for Prince Louis in honor of his late mother Princess Diana. So we can only imagine he’ll do the same for his own child.

Oprah also admitted to “Access Hollywood” that she has a soft spot for this particular baby. She’s been vocal about her support for Meghan during a time when the Duchess has been portrayed by the media as less than popular among palace staff, not to mention negative reports about her rumored feud with Kate Middleton.

Last month, Oprah told “CBS This Morning” that Meghan is being portrayed unfairly. “She is not only everything that we perceive of her in being graceful and dynamic in holding that position, but she just has a wonderful, warm, giving, loving heart.”

Bubba Watson Believes CBD For Golfers A No Brainer

Somehow, CBD has become a hot topic in the world of golf. Last month, players received a letter from the PGA Tour warning them not to take CBD-infused substances, in case the substance contained any linger THC cannabinoids (which could get players suspended). Then, following the newest bubblegum trend of golfers, highlighted by Tiger Woods winning the Masters while chomping away on some gum, rumors circulated that golfers like Woods and Phil Mickelson could be using CBD gum to calm their nerves.

Now, two-time Masters champion Bubba Watson is joining the CBD conversation. Watson believes CBD could sustain his career for several more years, he said in a recent interview with CNN Sports. Watson, who just turned 40, uses the cannabinoid to ease the strains and pains he’s endured over the course of his career. Bubba Watson believes CBD for golfers a no brainer.

“I see Phil Mickelson winning at 48, so I’ve got at least eight more years of having a shot of winning some tournaments,” Watson told CNN Sports’ Don Riddell.

“So for me it was about how I create longevity in the game of golf and spending time with my kids running around. CBD was easily a fit for me,” he added.

The World Anti-Doping Agency, the governing body of the Olympics, approved CBD usage among athletes because their research indicated it wasn’t damaging to athletes or a performance-enhancing drug. The PGA Tour follows protocol set by WADA, opening the doors for players like Watson to experiment with it as a pain reliever. Because despite the PGA Tour’s warning, he believes what he’s doing lies within the rules.

“I’ve had doctors involved to do my research and see what companies out there make a product that’s safe for me and safe for my family. It was a no brainer,” Watson said.

“There’s no bad stuff in it, there are no chemicals in there that will mess you up or make you fail a drugs test. There are certain companies we trust.”

Speaking of which, Watson announced this week a multi-year partnership with cbdMD, a company that makes CBD products. Watson will wear the company’s logo on both sides of his hat while playing in tournaments.

“By joining forces with one of the biggest names in the sport, we’re excited to see how the golf community embraces the newfound popularity of CBD,” Caryn Dunayer, cbdMD’s President, said in a statement (via Forbes). “We’re looking forward to the continued success of Bubba, while educating the public on the many benefits of hemp-derived CBD.”

Let’s home the PGA agrees with Bubba Watson believing CBD a no brainer for players.

Likely Godparents Of Meghan And Harry’s Baby

It’s almost that time! Baby Sussex (“Who?” – Prince George) is going to arrive any minute now, setting off a domino effect of even more anticipation. First, is it a boy or girl? What is his or her name? What is his or her title? And who are the likely godparents of Meghan and Harry’s baby?

It’s a busy time for U.K. betting site Ladbrokes, which is already taking bets on likely baby names (Grace is the frontrunner) and due date. And according to them, the leading picks for godparents include Harry’s longtime friend Charlie Van Straubenzee (1/8 odds) and Meghan’s close friend and stylist Jessica Mulroney (1/3 odds).

RELATED: Odds Are High Meghan Markle And Prince Harry Will Name Their Kid This

According to People, it won’t be a surprise if Charlie is chosen because the two have known each other forever, first meeting at prep school. Harry was a classmate of Charlie’s late brother, Henry, who died in a car crash in 2002. And Prince William is a close friend of Charlie’s other brother, Thomas, who is a godfather to Princess Charlotte.

As for Jessica, all three of her kids served as attendants in Meghan’s wedding; her young daughter, Ivy, was one of Meghan’s bridesmaids, while her two sons were page boys. Jessica also helped Meghan plan her wedding, pick out her wedding dress designer (Jessica is a stylist, after all) and attended her baby shower in NYC.

RELATED: Will Meghan And Harry’s Baby Be A Prince Or Princess?

Although it’s unlikely, Meghan and Harry’s celeb pals George and Amal Clooney are frontrunners for potential celebrity godparents (8/1 odds). Meghan’s good freind Serena Williams is next with 10/1 odds, and David Beckham has a 20/1 chance. Elton John, who performed at the couple’s wedding reception, and Oprah are last with 33/1 odds.

But it’s totally possible Harry and Megs will choose more than one set of godparents.  Prince George has seven godparents, Princess Charlotte has five and Prince Louis has six.

CBD Burger And The Rise Of CBD Infused Edibles

0

CBD infused edibles are now commercially available in select stores, particularly in states where cannabis consumption is legal. And no edible has received as much hype as when news broke fast-food chain Carl’s Jr. would be selling CBD infused burgers in honor of 4/20.

CBD is one of the most mainstream cannabis by-products, mainly because it doesn’t get you high. It does not contain the same compounds found in THC, the main agent of cannabis’ heady and euphoric properties. CBD products are used widely, especially by patients to medicate and manage certain medical conditions. One of the more popular products are CBD cartridges used in vaporizers, like the Yocan UNI. These CBD cartridges contain essential oils that can also be used in other types of vaping devices like the Yocan Trio which use pods.

Rocky Mountain High, the aptly named Carl’s Jr. burger, is made with two beef patties, waffle fries, pepper jack cheese, a bunch of jalapenos, and a special CBD-infused sauce.  The burger, which Carl’s Jr. says only has about 5 mg of CBD in it, was sold as a promotional item on April 4. Curious consumers lined up early to be some of the first to get their munchies. One blogger commented people might save the receipts to immortalize the moment where the first CBD infused burger sold.

CBD infused food is now at an all-time high with Carl’s Jr.’s special 4/20 burger making  headlines. CBD edibles were already incredibly popularity, but the buzz generated from this fast food company took it to a new level. Like Carl’s Jr., many companies are putting CBD in their products; coffee and other beverages, pastries and confectioneries and even gummy bears and jelly beans have CBD in them. Even vaporizer manufacturers like Yocan, now manufacture products that are geared towards consumption of CBD.

With all that’s CBD has going on for itself, it’s not a far-fetched idea to see more and more CBD infused edibles on the market. The launch of Carl’s Jr.’s cannabis infused burger made CBD edibles all the more popular since many consumers are seeing this either as an excuse or as an alternative way to take in CBD.

The Feds Are Arresting People At DFW Over Hemp

Rod Kight from.  CANNABIS LAW REPORT report brings us a crazy report about what is happing at the Dallas/Fortworth (DFW) airport!

One single, small amount of CBD oil that you thought was cool to take on a trip with you, could result in life-changing effects,” says Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) US Customs (CBP) Port Director Cleatus Hunt Jr. in this recent news article. In fact, according to Hunt, any THC found at the airport can result in a DFW police bust.

Although I was unable to find an official US Customs policy regarding cannabidiol (CBD) on its website, a spokesperson for the CBP recently told a Texas news agency that “CBD oil is considered a controlled substance under U.S. Federal law. Travelers found in possession of controlled substances at U.S. ports of entry can face arrest, seizures, fines, penalties or denied entry.”

RELATED: Did The 2018 Farm Bill Open The Door To Importing Hemp?

Before I discuss how Director Hunt and CBP are dead wrong on this issue, it is important to acknowledge that CBD oil derived from marijuana is illegal under both federal and Texas state law. Traveling with it can, indeed, result in seizure of the product, fines, and even arrest. That being said, not all CBD oil is illegal. That being said, it is absolutely clear that hemp and hemp derived CBD are not controlled substances under federal law (which is what CBP enforces):

Section 297A(1) of the Agricultural Improvement Act of 2018 (2018 Farm Bill) states:

The term hemp means the plant Cannabis sativa L. and any part of that plant, including the seeds thereof and all derivatives, extracts, cannabinoids, isomers, acids, salts, and salts of isomers, whether growing or not, with a delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol concentration of not more than 0.3 percent on a dry weight basis.” (emphasis added)

Additionally, Section 12619(a)(2) of the 2018 Farm Bill expressly removed hemp from the definition of marijuana in the Controlled Substances Act (CSA). It states:

The term marihuana does not include— (i)hemp, as defined in section 297A of the Agricultural Marketing Act of 1946[.]”

And, Subsection (b) of the above-removed tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) from the CSA when it is derived from hemp and in concentrations that do not exceed 0.3%.

All of this is to say that the comments in the news articles I cited above are demonstrably false with respect to hemp-derived CBD oil. There is no gray area. They are simply untrue statements.

RELATED: Lawmaker Sells Legal Hemp On US Senate Floor

Texas law regarding hemp and CBD has a long and mixed history. (You can read a piece of that history here.) Mostly, CBD has been tolerated in Texas, even before passage of the 2018 Farm Bill. As I discuss in this article, passage of the 2018 Farm Bill arguably preempts (ie, overrides) conflicting Texas state law and prohibits a state from criminalizing it. However, even if Texas is authorized to criminalize possession of CBD, Texas is about to pass a hemp law which would decriminalize it under Texas state law. And, CBP does not enforce state law. It is a federal agency charged with enforcing federal laws.

All in all, this appears to be a short term “flare up” by a misguided or overzealous federal employee who is not familiar with the law. My best guess is that this policy will be updated quickly and that the official(s) responsible for it will be reprimanded. In the meantime, be cautious when traveling with hemp products.
