5 Signs You And Your Partner Have An Authentic Connection

0

It’s easier to find a partner who likes to hang out, have sex, and occasionally text you — many consider these superficial behaviors signs of a real relationship — than someone you have a deeper connection to. It’s why many of us settle. But how can you tell the difference? Would you be able to recognize if you and your person were connected beyond just romantic surface behaviors?

According to the Meet Mindful blog, there are several elements that signal you have an authentic connection with your significant other. Here are 5 of them.

You feel comfortably being yourself

You don’t feel you’re being judged for letting the “real you” shine when you’re around your partner. You may put on a mask when you’re at work or among friends, but when you’re around the person you love, you feel comfortable to be yourself. And you have no insecurities about being rejected.

You don’t confuse sex with intimacy

Sex is easy. Intimacy occurs outside of the bedroom, in addition to between the sheets. Via Meet Mindful:

A study by the Society for Personality and Social Psychology found that couples don’t need to have sex every day to be happy. Just once a week is needed to maintain satisfaction and happiness in a relationship. The crucial part is overall intimacy, which is created physically, intellectually, emotionally, and through shared experiences.

You integrate the other into your daily life

We’ve all dated someone who refused to join us at our friend’s dinner party, or our sister’s wedding. This is not cool, because it’s a testament for how the other views you. A true partner values your relationships with other people. And because they have a deep connection to you, they want to support you during these special events. It’s assumed they will always be your Plus One.

https://giphy.com/gifs/we-just-carrie-uFSiCzg8DeYeI

Meet Mindful suggests moving on if the person you’ve been dating awhile hasn’t bothered to introduce you to their friends or family. Unless they don’t have close relationships with these people (which could totally be the case), there’s really no excuse, other than they are not willing to forge that type of connection to you.

You value space (yours and your partner’s)

It’s cliche to tell someone to “not lose themselves” in a relationship, but it happens often. If you’re with someone you have an authentic relationship with, both of you will have your own activities, outings and social events that don’t include the other. It’s called having your own life, and it’s not only healthy, it’s attractive to be with someone who is not co-dependent. How can you grow as a couple if you’re never apart?

You laugh together

If your partner associates you with good times and a lot of laughs, consider yourself in a quality relationship. According to Meet Mindful, a study from the University of North Carolina found that partners who share the most laughs with each other have better-quality relationships.

Keep these signs in mind when you go on your next date. Finding someone you can have an authentic relationship with should be the goal, not the unattainable dream.

This Trait Could Be Key To A Lasting Romance

0

Passion and commitment are widely believed to be the foundation of strong romantic relationships.

But a relationship is made of two unique individuals, and personality traits these individuals possess or lack can often make a relationship more likely to endure.

In a recent study, we found that one trait in particular – humility – is an important indicator of successful relationships.

An honest view of shortcomings

Humility can sometimes be confused with low self-esteem, low confidence or meekness.

But researchers have come to realize that being humble generally indicates the presence of deeply admirable personal qualities. It means you have the ability to accurately assess your deficiencies without denying your skills and strengths.

For example, you might recognize that you’re smart but realize it would be absurd to call yourself all-knowing – especially when the scope of human knowledge is so vast. This is an honest and sober view of your shortcomings.

RELATED: Is Love At First Sight Really A Thing?

As the philosopher Jason Baehr has argued, “To be humble is to be attentive to and disposed to ‘own’ one’s limitations, weaknesses, and mistakes. A humble person does not ignore, avoid, or try to deny her limits or deficiencies.”

If you’re humble, you lack a host of negative qualities, such as arrogance and overconfidence. It means you can acknowledge mistakes, see value in things that are riddled with imperfections and identify areas for improvement.

The link between humility and forgiveness

Humility appears to be a huge asset to relationships. One study found that people tend to rate this quality highly in their significant other. It also found that someone who is humble is more likely to initiate a romantic relationship, perhaps because they’re less likely to see themselves as “too good” for someone else.

But in our study, we wanted to explore the link between humility and forgiveness in couples.

Humility is tricky to measure; we worried that people who were arrogant might presumptuously declare their humility, while people who were actually humble would, as a sign of their humility, downplay this trait.

So we approached this question by asking each partner in a romantic relationship about their own and their partner’s humility. We hoped that even if a truly humble person didn’t consider themselves humble, at least their partner would recognize this trait.

We asked 284 couples from the Detroit metropolitan area questions about how humble they were, how humble they thought their partner was and if they were likely to forgive their partner if they did something that was hurtful, like insulting them.

We found that people who felt their partner or spouse was humble were more likely to forgive them following a hurtful situation. This wasn’t true, however, of those who felt their partner or spouse was arrogant. Many of our respondents with arrogant partners indicated that because their partners were less likely to admit to any personal failings, they were less likely forgive them.

Interestingly, the strength of an individual’s social network can play a role too. If someone has a humble partner, they’re more likely to forgive that person. If someone has a lot of close, supportive friends and a humble partner, they’ll be even more likely to forgive that partner after he or she has screwed up. But if your partner is arrogant, it doesn’t matter how many great friends the couple has, they’ll still be less likely to be forgiven.

The ability to forgive is so important because pain is an inevitable part of any relationship. People mess up. They might say something they don’t mean, be unknowingly inconsiderate or forget an important event. So when looking for a partner, it’s probably a good idea to find someone who recognizes that making mistakes is part of being human. The Conversation

New York Might Not Legalize Marijuana For Recreational Use In 2019

Although New York was expected to become one of the next states to legalize marijuana for recreational use, there have been some snags that could prevent this from happening in 2019. Governor Andrew Cuomo, who has been pushing to make legal weed part of the state budget, says he is “no longer confident” that is going to transpire before the April 1 deadline. If it doesn’t, retail pot sales will likely be set back another year.

It was during a recent press conference that Cuomo broke the bad news. The Democrat said that while his team made a valiant effort to include marijuana legalization in the state budget for the 2019-2020 fiscal year, the issue is just too complicated for legislative forces to come to an agreement on how it should all shake out.

“I am no longer confident marijuana will be done by the budget,” he told reporters. “There is a wide divide on marijuana. I believe ultimately we can get there. I believe we must get there. I don’t believe we get there in two weeks.”

RELATED: New York Gov Pushing Marijuana Legalization In 2019

But this doesn’t necessarily mean that marijuana legalization is no-go this year. Lawmakers still have an opportunity to pass a bill in the coming months – ideally before they break for the summer. There is some concern, however, that putting the legalization issue in the hands of the House and Senate will only serve to prolong the matter. No doubt making the issue part of the budget would be much easier. There is also no guarantee that the legislature will come to any sort of an agreement.

Governor Cuomo, who up until last year opposed the idea of marijuana legalization, has been fighting to make legal weed happen for several months. But how to establish a taxed and regulated market in a manner which serves all of its masters has not been an easy task.

Although the governor is eager to get marijuana legalization on the state budget, lawmakers have not expressed much interest in putting a rush on the deal. Black lawmakers are now even threatening to oppose the idea entirely as long as minorities are not guaranteed a substantial slice of the estimated $3 million industry.

RELATED: Why New York Will Be Pushed To Legalize Marijuana Sooner Rather Than Later

Cuomo has said that minorities and women will be part of the plan, yet lawmakers are not confident it will be done right.

“I haven’t seen anyone do it correctly,” Assembly Majority Leader Crystal Peoples-Stokes of Buffalo said, according to the New York Times. “They thought we were going to trust that at the end of the day, these communities would be invested in. But that’s not something I want to trust. If it’s not required in the statute, then it won’t happen.”

At this juncture, it seems that marijuana legalization in New York is down for the count. Whether or not the powers that be will find a way to salvage the issue and see it through in 2019, well, that remains to be seen. It certainly doesn’t look good.

Fans Are Not Excited About The New ‘Bachelorette’; FBI Drew Guns On Felicity Huffman At 6 AM

Fans are not excited about the new ‘Bachelorette’

Tuesday night’s finale of The Bachelor may not have revealed if Colton Underwood lost his virginity to Cassie Randolph, but viewers did find out which of Colton’s exes is the next Bachelorette. Shortly after wishing Colton and Cassie well, Chris Harrison announced that Hannah Brown would be returning to the mansion as the next Bachelorette.

Hannah was ecstatic about the news.

“I’m just really so grateful and honored that people saw my heart and that I get to continue showing that and that somebody will hopefully share their heart with me,” she said.

Hannah added that she is ready to get engaged and has the blessing of her family, who she says “has been really supportive of me.”

While Hannah has the support of her family, Bachelor Nation is divided about her casting. Many fans took to Twitter to express both their support and concerns about the newest Bachelorette star.

While fans remain divided, Hannah’s ready to give love another shot — even giving out a first impression rose after meeting five of her contestants. While Luke S. tried to woo Hannah by telling her he’d be willing to go “down south” for her, Hannah ultimately chose Cam for his ability to rap and “pump up the jams.”

It took a nervous Hannah a few tries to pin the rose on Cam right, but luckily she still has a few weeks left to practice before heading to the mansion. If fan reactions are any indication, the next season of The Bachelorette is already off to an interesting start.

7 FBI agents showed up at Felicity Huffman’s home at 6 AM and drew their weapons

Felicity Huffman knew she was a target of the federal investigation into bribery in the college admissions process … but she had no idea 7 feds would show up at her door Tuesday morning with guns drawn.

Sources familiar with the arrest tell TMZ, 7 FBI agents showed up at Felicity’s Hollywood Hills home at 6 AM and drew their weapons as they ordered Felicity to come out and surrender.

We’re told Felicity, her husband William H. Macy and their 2 daughters were asleep when the agents ordered her out. Our sources say she knew the arrest was looming and would have gladly surrendered on her own, but the feds saw it differently.

An FBI source familiar with the arrest tells TMZ guns were drawn as a precaution. It’s always left to the agents’ discretion whether to draw a firearm during an arrest.

The agents took Huffman to a federal building where she was processed by federal marshals. As we reported, Huffman was indicted for conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud.

The indictment claims Huffman made a charitable contribution of $15,000 to participate in a college entrance exam cheating scheme on behalf of her eldest daughter.

The indictment claims the daughter was given twice the amount of time to take the SAT as other students and the paid proctor agreed to secretly correct her answers afterward.

The docs claim the girl got a 1420 score … approximately 400 points over her PSAT.

More Americans Prefer To Travel Alone Because Why Not?

Self care seems to be the trend of 2019. A new study reveals that nearly 1 in every 4 Americans prefers to travel alone, considering it a prime opportunity for some “me time.”

OnePoll surveyed over 2,000 people and found that this mentality is on the rise, with 22 percent of participants reporting that they travel exclusively on their own, and 44 percent of them saying that traveling with others holds them back from doing their own thing.

RELATED: Study: Most Millennials Would Give This Up To Travel

A lot of the people surveyed believe that solo traveling opens more doors to them: 50 percent of participants reported that they’d be more likely to interact with locals if they were on their own, and 46 percent of them said that they’d also take the opportunity to be more spontaneous. 57 percent of participants also said that they’d be more likely to get out of their comfort zones if they were alone on their trips.

The survey concluded that people’s main concerns when it comes to traveling in groups is the fact that your companions would keep you from doing what you want to do (58 percent) or that they’d pressure you into doing something you’re not interested in doing (53 percent).

Despite all of this positive thinking regarding solo travel, Americans are still worried over the prospect of being alone in a foreign country. More than half, 52 percent, of respondents said that traveling alone is less safe and 49 percent of them said they’d also worry about feeling lonely.

RELATED: Use This Travel Hack To Get Your Luggage First At Baggage Claim

Despite these surface insecurities, it looks like there will be a lot of solo traveling in the near future, with 44 percent of participants claiming they’d like to do it at some point.

Traveling is often romanticized in movies and stories as pivotal moments where people can grow, discover themselves and have spiritual experiences. It makes sense then that a lot of people would want to have some of that for themselves. Different studies have also documented this evolving perspective, reporting that millennials spend most of their resources in traveling, choosing this over more traditional paths like buying homes and investing money. But that’s also aided by the failing economy and the state of the world. Oh well. Let’s just get back to traveling.

Is It OK To Refer To The Queen As Your Royal Highness

You probably think you’re abiding by royal etiquette when you refer to the queen as Her Royal Highness. It’s also a nice way to write about her when you’ve used the term “the queen” too many times. Is it ok to refer to the queen as your royal highness? No, the proper term is Her Majesty.

The queen’s full title is (takes a deep breath) “Elizabeth II, by the Grace of God, of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and of her other realms and territories Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith.”

She’s simply referred to as Her Majesty the Queen on the Royal Family’s official website.

RELATED: 5 Etiquette Tips In Case You Ever Meet A Royal

If you ever find yourself getting ready to meet the queen, here’s how it should go down. After being presented to the Queen (nobody is ever “introduced,” they are “presented”), tradition calls for you to address her as “Your Majesty.” For example, “I’m pleased to meet you, Your Majesty.”  After that, you want to use “Ma’am. ” So, if the Queen asks how you are, your reply should be something like:  “I’m good, Ma’am.” However, you can also use “Your Majesty.”

Your Royal Highness is reserved for royal women of lesser status, like Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle.

Similarly, the proper way to address a king is “Your Majesty,” and thereafter as “Sir.”

Science: How Marijuana Works To Help Those With Multiple Sclerosis

Multiple sclerosis is a neurological disease in which the immune system attacks the fatty protein that protects our nerve cells. The exposed and damaged (i.e. “sclerotic”) nerves lose their ability to transmit signals, and this results in a wide array bad results, including numbness, dizziness, itching, and blurred vision. More than half of people who suffer from MS experience pain, muscle stiffness or spasticity, and cognitive impairment.

It’s those last three symptoms that have been most studied in relation to medical marijuana.

RELATED: Marijuana Can Help The 12 Million Patients Suffering From Spasticity

What’s the Good News? Cannabis eases spasticity and muscle stiffness.

In double-blind, placebo controlled trials, MS patients who use cannabis oil, synthetic THC, or an oral-spray blend of THC and CBD have reported feeling relief from muscle stiffness and spasms. At least one has shown a “highly significant” difference in spasticity between cannabis users and nonusers. Another quantified that difference as an almost twofold improvement.

What is felt, however, is not necessarily what can be proven. Despite patients reporting strong improvements, a European study from 2005 could only determine a “small treatment effect” by objective measures.

And there’s more:

The same studies found reduced pain and improved sleep.

RELATED: Here’s How Marijuana Helps A Father Of Two Living With Multiple Sclerosis

What’s the Bad News? Weed can addle your brains.

In the past five years, the first studies to specifically examine the effect of cannabis on the mental clarity of MS patients have emerged. And they confirm that cannabis can worsen the cognitive problems caused by the disease. A small study from 2011 concluded that patients who treated their MS with “street cannabis” (how charmingly lurid!) experienced “significantly worse” mental functions, such as processing speed, memory, and executive functions. They were also twice as likely as nonusers to be cognitively impaired. An even smaller study from 2014 found similar results.

What Do the Pros Say?

  • In a 2014 overview of the medical literature, the American Academy o>on”>f Neurology (AAN) concluded that cannabis oil, synthetic THC, and THC-CBD blend oral spray are all “probably effective” to treat the “patient-reported” spasticity and pain of MS.As for smoked pot, there’s not yet enough evidence for the AAN to decide.
  • The National Multiple Sclerosis Society supports access to medical marijuana and more research on potential benefits and harms of using the drug to treat MS.

Blockchain Technology Hopes To Keep CBD Honest

Olympic silver medal skier, Devin Logan, is wrapping up a three-month suspension for using a cannabis-based product she says contained higher-than-allowed levels of the banned substance, THC.

Logan expressed her disappointment on social media, saying that she made a serious mistake that she regrets completely. She explains that she was using a CBD product that she trusted did not contain more than trace amounts of THC, a cannabinoid banned by most sports organizations, only to find out by USADA that, in fact, the tests came back positive.

The product Logan took was listed as having only trace amounts of THC — which is banned above certain thresholds by the World Anti-Doping Agency — but clearly contained more. This isn’t the first time an athlete has taken a product that had wrong information on the ingredients label — plenty of athletes have been disqualified because the nutritional supplements they used were laced with anabolic steroids — but Logan’s case appears to be the first-of-its-kind in the United States involving cannabidiol (CBD) drops.

RELATED: Is CBD A Rising Star Or Just Popular Fad?

As marijuana and marijuana-based products become more widely legalized and accepted, supplements using CBD are becoming more prevalent.

While athletes are allowed to use CBD, most sports organizations have banned THC and other cannabinoids found in cannabis; anyone taking CBD to manage pain and other symptoms is at risk of making the same mistake as Logan if they aren’t careful.

Now, instead of getting any mention on social media, the maker of the CBD oil that caused Logan’s THC-positive test and the subsequent ban is getting no love from the slopestyle star. And that’s a big deal for a company that can’t use conventional advertising — as is the way with cannabis — yet deigns to carve out a piece of the multi-billion dollar CBD industry. When it comes to cannabis, murky and misleading labels are a leading cause of brand death.

One company keeping the industry honest is doing so using blockchain technology. BlockStrain is a user-generated immutable ledger that collects, validates and stores all of the information about a product on a stable digital platform. Once entered, the data can’t be altered, only built upon, effectively eliminating the need for third-party trust organizations. BlockStrain CEO, Robert Galarza, says that while blockchain technology carries a bad rap as a cryptocurrency when it comes to protecting the integrity of data, it’s the best. BlockStrain registers and tracks data from the plant to the finished product so that customers have uncompromised information about what is in their cannabis-dosed product.

For instance, if you want to know the origins of a bottle of BlockStrain’s newest partner, AKESO CBD water, you just open the camera on your smartphone, scan the code and see for yourself. The data include real-time test results, certificates of authenticity, and any additional product information the producer would like to showcase.

RELATED: Despite CBD’s Popularity, Americans Still Don’t Understand Its Effects And Capabilities

In the cannabis market, Galarza is seeing labs being shopped for, not based on pricing but based on the results they can promise clients. With AKESO, they are combining high-end water with full-spectrum hemp-derived CBD and want to offer full disclosure of the contents of each bottle.

Galarza says that this is a great way for the “good players” of the industry to educate consumers about what’s in their product, or, what’s not in the product and why. Had Logan been afforded this level of honesty, she wouldn’t have been sidelined over the winter, but she takes full responsibility and hopes this will be the last case of accidental THC doping in sports.
