Amazon’s Alexa Will Soon Be Your Personal Doctor

Amazon’s next move is to give Alexa even more knowledge, granting the device the power to pull up your medical records and to provide you with some certified medical advice. From the internet. Unbelievable.

This feature comes after a lot of work and development from Amazon, allowing patients to access their medical records, get progress updates after surgeries, find locations of emergency centers, schedule medical appointments and more.

In order to reach this milestone, Amazon has partnered up with different health providers and insurance companies to make sure that the device is only handing out truthful information and that the sensitive medical files accessed are not breaking any laws. “These new [Alexa] skills are designed to help customers manage a variety of healthcare needs at home simply using voice,” explains an Amazon spokesperson on the site’s blog.

RELATED: Almost Half Of Millennials Would Prefer To Give Up Sex Instead Of Amazon

CNBC reports that voice enabled commands have been embraced by the medical field, with a lot of potential for seniors, children and people with disabilities, helping them communicate with family members, manage medications and obtain information. Amazon has hired specialists and lawyers in order to comply with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), which protects patients when their personal information is shared with health care organizations.

For all of Amazon’s problems and controversies, the company is becoming part of a trend in bringing health care home, an option that could provide a convenient and cheap solution for millions of people.

Does Legalizing Marijuana Help Or Harm Americans? Weighing The Statistical Evidence

The legalization of marijuana has been a topic of contention and confusion for both sides of the debate.

The federal government still deems it illegal. But marijuana has been legalized for recreational use in 10 states and the District of Columbia, and a further 21 broadly legalize medical marijuana.

Researchers like myself finally have some data to assess claims made on both sides. Let’s take a closer look at three major arguments around marijuana legalization – and how the statistics stack up against them.

How much money will states earn from marijuana taxes?

One of the biggest pro-legalization arguments was that states would be able to bring in a new source of tax revenue.

Colorado, for example, imposes a 15% excise tax from cultivator to retailer and a further 15% sales tax on the end customer.

In 2018, Colorado legal pot sales topped US$1.2 billion, with the state pulling in about $270 million in taxes. Compare that to the approximately $45 million that the state collected in tax on alcohol that same year.

A study from Georgia State University found that alcohol sales fell by 15% in states where only medical marijuana had been legalized and by 20% in counties where recreational marijuana is sold legally. However, the states made more than enough back from marijuana sales, since marijuana taxes are typically greater than alcohol taxes.

Other states are reaping the benefits of marijuana taxes as well. California pulled in $345 million in 2018 and Washington $376 million. New Frontier Data, a cannabis data website, predicts the legalized cannabis market will grow to US$25 billion by 2025.

RELATED: Does Marijuana Increase Violent Behavior?

However, there are a lot of questions about how much tax revenue states will actually earn, especially considering that some states have missed their projections by a long shot.

For example, the governor of California predicted a much larger $643 million in revenue. Meanwhile, projections for Washington suggested that the state would earn only $160 million.

While projections for other types of goods are typically more reliable, this is an entirely new market and therefore prone to error. Why? Well, the jury is still out. Some researchers and pundits have guessed that in California taxes are too high, that the black market is too strong or that the red tape of bureaucracy is just too much.

Regardless, it’s clear that marijuana tax revenue has increased year over year for every state that has legalized recreational marijuana. While naysayers are touting California’s missed projections, Colorado, while struggling to meet its projections in the first three years after legalization, eventually exceeded its projection.

Is legalized marijuana hurting youth?

A well-trodden argument against legalization is that it could lead youth to use it more. For example, anti-drug group DARE has blamed marijuana for a rise in school suspensions and youth suicide, among other things.

Here is the problem: Researchers simply don’t have enough data yet.

Studies have shown that youth marijuana use actually decreases in states where medical marijuana has been legalized. Researchers guess that this may be due to kids viewing marijuana as medicinal instead of recreational.

While other studies have suggested that legalizing marijuana can lead to increased use, this could simply be reporting bias. In other words, if it is legalized, people are more willing to be honest about use.

Other studies show quite the opposite. For example, Colorado teens had a statistically significant drop in marijuana use over the past three years since recreational legalization.

While there are strong indicators that the legalization of recreational marijuana leads to decreased use in youth, only time will give the final verdict.

Does marijuana increase crime?

Many who are against legal marijuana claim that it could lead to an increase in violent crime.

Even in Colorado last year, there were rumblings from Gov. Hickenlooper about banning marijuana, since crime in Colorado has been rising since 2014, the same year marijuana was legalized.

There is really no doubt that states which allow medical marijuana show absolutely no increase in their violent and nonviolent crime statistics. In fact, crime might actually decrease.

However, crime has increased in many of the cities where recreational marijuana is legal. Homicides in Seattle, D.C. and Denver – all major cities with legal marijuana – have increased over the past few years. But homicides have also increased in cities without recreational marijuana, such as Chicago, St. Louis, Baltimore, New Orleans and Kansas City.

RELATED: Uruguay Marijuana Legalization: Crime Down 20% Nationwide

A homicide increase over four years alone in cities where marijuana is legalized reveals absolutely nothing. This is a classic case for the statistical saying “correlation does not necessarily mean causation.” Take California, for instance. Murders in Oakland are down, but murders in Fresno are up. How can that be recreational marijuana’s fault?

However, legalized marijuana does seem to have an effect on the justice system. According to FBI crime data, in 2017, there were 659,000 marijuana arrests in the U.S. There were also 1.2 million violent crimes with victims, but only 518,617 arrests for these same violent crimes. This means that there are more than 700,000 victims who have suffered without justice.

In states with legalized recreational marijuana, police now no longer spend time on marijuana arrests and can spend more time on solving these types of crime. FBI data from Colorado and Washington show that crime clearance rates – the number of times that the police solved a crime – increased for both violent and property crimes after legalization.

While there are still many unknowns surrounding the legalization of recreational marijuana, I believe that this shows that it will be a positive influence. The Conversation

Why Is There So Much What In Black Market Weed

0

There are plenty of reasons why marijuana prohibition is a failed ethos, but a new study showing that black market weed contains disgusting levels of feces is probably the best reason we have heard in a long time to support legalization. No shit, scientists just found dookie in our doobies, and we’re ready to hurl over here.

Researchers at the Universidad Complutense in Madrid say that there is, in fact, so much poop in street weed that it is unfit for human consumption. The results of this study, which were published in the latest issue of Forensic Science International, show that 83 percent of the marijuana sold in the underground has a higher caca content than it does THC. And while this might be the most humorous piece of crap news you read today, rest assured smoking stool is a serious public health issue.

RELATED: A Beginners Guide To Reading Marijuana Labels

During the study, researchers found traces of Aspergillus fungus and E.coli bacteria, which are dangerous bugs that are located in the intestines of humans and other animals. Anyone who has ever been had a severe case of food poisoning can attest to the violent nature that comes from this bacteria. It’s one of the reasons that people are supposed to wash our hands after using the bathroom. So clearly the concept of smoking manurijuana is something that should be avoided at all cost.

Well, researchers believe that it is the result of the asinine tactics that cartel mules are forced to take when smuggling marijuana into other countries. One of the most popular methods is swallowing baggies containing the product and transporting it in the stomach. Once arrived at their destination, the mules then consume high doses of laxatives to move the pot from their large intestine to the outside world. No cleansing process takes place to ensure the commode dope is free of disease. It is immediately sold in the underground, putting unsuspecting customers at risk of getting sick. The user is especially vulnerable to ganja guano if they have a weakened immune system.

Although it might seem like the butt bugs would be killed the moment the marijuana was put to a flame prior to smoking, experts argue that is not necessarily the case. “There are no filters on joints,” lead researcher José Manuel Moreno Pérez told El País. “You are not just breathing in smoke, but also particles.”

RELATED: THC Benefits That Have Nothing To Do With Getting High

It is important to point out that this study only focuses on the dealings happening around Madrid. It is in no way intended to imply that there is stoner sewage floating around in the United States.

In legal states, marijuana is tested for a variety of contaminants and considering that nobody has to put pot products up their ass to transport it, consumers in those places are relatively safe. However, if you are still getting marijuana from the Mexican connection—some still do—there is always the possibility that when you’re dealer says, “hey man, this weed is the shit,” he won’t be lying.

Everything You Need to Know About The Terpene Limonene

Have you ever taken a whiff of some Lemon OG and asked yourself how those dense green nuggets of ganja smell like lemon Pledge? That’s the limonene you’re smelling.

Terpenes 101

If you are already familiar with terpenes, feel free to skip onto the next section. If you’re a terpene newbie, prepare to have your mind blown. We’ll start with the Merriam-Webster dictionary definition, and go from there:

Terpene |noun|ter∙pene|\ ˈtər-ˌpēn \ :  any of various isomeric hydrocarbons ‎C10H16 found present in essential oils (as from conifers) and used especially as solvents and in organic synthesis; broadly : any of numerous hydrocarbons (‎C5H8) found especially in essential oils, resins, and balsams

In case you don’t have a PhD in chemistry, terpenes are aromatic compounds that give plants like cannabis their smell. To be clear – by no means are terpenes just found in cannabis plants. They are present in all kinds of plants, fruits, herbs and more.

Basics of Limonene

Limonene, one of the most commonly used terpenes in flavorings and household cleaners, is a naturally-occurring hydrocarbon that smells exactly like you think it would – lemony.

Commonly found in citrus peels, citrus lotions and more, limonene has become known for far more than its presence in pot.

Potential Health Benefits of Limonene

There’s no evidence that any of these benefits survive the combustion process, but limonene supplements are commonly taken for a handful of reasons.

Anti-Inflamatory

Just one of the many benefits of limonene, its anti-inflammatory properties can benefit anyone as a part of their general health regimen. While many different nutrients are known for fighting inflammation, limonene is cheap, abundant, and commonly overlooked.

Stress Reliever

Stress can be caused by almost anything, but limonene has been shown to help fight it in one big way. By helping to combat rising cortisol levels, limonene can provide your body a boost when it comes to thwarting stress.

Digestion Aid

Since some digestion issues are caused by too much bacteria, many turn to limonene as it is known for its anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties.

Breast Cancer Fighter

This may sound crazy, but a 2013 study by The University of Arizona Cancer Center showed that women with breast cancer taking 2 grams of limonene daily for two to six weeks resulted in a “22% reduction in cyclin D1 expression” and “reduced cell proliferation.” Essentially, limonene shows serious promise when it comes to the prevention and treatment of breast cancer.

Marijuana Strains Highest in Limonene

Given the widespread prevalence of hybrid marijuana strains, trace amounts of limonene can be found in dozens of strains. Some of the cannabis strains that have become known for having the highest concentration include:

Strains with Citrus Names

  • Super Lemon Haze – A hybrid between Lemon Skunk and Super Silver Haze, Super Lemon Haze is known by cannaseurs for its potent lemony scent.
  • Lemon Kush – Often considered to be a generalized name for multiple lemony strains, Lemon Kush has small buds but packs a big punch.
  • Lemon Diesel – While this strain sounds like a cross between Lemon Skunk and Sour Diesel, its really a “potent offspring of California Sour and Lost Coast OG.”
  • Orange Kush – A 50/50 split between indica and sativa, Orange Kush is a hybrid you’ll 50% love for its uplifting aroma, and 50% hate for its tendancy to cause couchlock.
  • Agent Orange – Named after the poisonous Vietnam-era defoliant, be warned that while Agent Orange smells like a juicy orange peel, just a couple puffs will lead you to cotton mouth.
  • and more…

Other Strains Exceptionally High in Limonene

  • Durban Poison – Sweeter than it sounds, Durban Poison mixes citrus aromas with the sweet scent of anise.Anise
  • Jack Herer – A legendary strain named after a legendary cannabis activist, Jack Herer is one strain every cannabis consumer should try before kicking the bucket.
  • Berry White – The stress-relieving indica-dominant hybrid known for its blueish color and its bright orange hairs, a nugget of Berry White is 100% Instagram worthy.

Dangers of Limonene

Despite limonene being a naturally-occurring compound, there are some dangers associated with the citrus-scented terpene.

First and foremost, limonene allergies are quite common. If you’re allergic to citrus peels, citrus fragrances, or citrus cosmetics, you’re probably better off steering clear of the strains listed above.

RELATED: A Primer On The Science Of Cannabis Terpenes And Cannabinoids

Also, upon storage and exposure to sunlight and air, limonene breaks down into various “oxidation products” which act as skin, eye, and respiratory irritants.

While this mostly applies to the rampant use of limonene in cosmetics and skincare products, it also applies to those working in the extraction business. With the E.U. warning that there are “occupational hazards” related to handling limonene, it’s no laughing matter.

Last, but certainly not least, a 1977 study on animals showed that high doses of limonene can cause fetal development effects.

Conclusion

All in all, the average cannabis consumer doesn’t need to worry about the dangers effects of limonene. However, those working in cannabis extraction labs should be careful when working with bulk amounts of limonene.

Britney Spears: ‘All This Fame Is Way Too Much For Me’; R. Kelly Asks Media To ‘Take It Easy’ On Him

Britney Spears: ‘All this fame is way too much for me’

It was reported that Spears was suffering from bipolar disorder following her 2008 hospitalization, but never confirmed by the singer. However, she has been open about battling anxiety and how not getting help in her 20s lead her to an unhealthy space.

“From an early age I always felt that everyone was testing me. If [something] was not in place, it would have been enough to get me to this point of anxiety,” Spears reflected in a 2017 interview with Israeli newspaper, Yediot Ahronot. I could get overwhelmed by a lot of very small, disproportionate things.”

She added, “I think I had to give myself more breaks through my career and take responsibility for my mental health.”

Spears said that in her 20s, there were plenty of decisions made for her that she wouldn’t have necessarily made for herself. When the journalist described her as being “overprotected” during that time period, she agreed.

“My life was controlled by too many people and that doesn’t really let you be yourself,” she explained. “In that situation, when you’re not in control, you become less excited, and there’s less passion when it comes to music. I wrote back then that I was lost and didn’t know what to do with myself. I was trying to please everyone around me because that’s who I am deep inside. There are moments where I look back and think: ‘What the hell was I thinking?’”

“I think I had fun when I was younger,” she added. “I was a pretty normal girl, a tomboy. But my 20s were awful. My 30s are much better for me. I’ve learned to get to know myself better.”

She called that awful period her “toughest years,” adding, “Deep inside I wish to be very private, which I believe I am. All this fame is way too much for me, as it’s really hard to grasp its magnitude. When you’re young and in the beginning of your career it’s understandable that you’ve just stepped into this world.”

“I have these moments where I just want to dress up like a normal person and walk in the street. It goes through my mind quite a lot,” she explained.

In another interview with Marie Claire U.K., Spears remembered how being “under scrutiny” also contributed to her anxiety issues.

“If a hair was out of place, I’d be so anxious. I would get very anxious about so many things,” she explained in the 2016 sit-down, saying that feeling would still creep into her personal life.

“I had a really bad date. I mean, it was really bad. I’ve been single for ages and had a date with a guy I liked,” she recalled. “I was getting anxious, worrying he wouldn’t like me. In the evening I got on the scales and I had lost six pounds.”

R. Kelly asks media to ‘take it easy’ on him

R. Kelly gave a 28-second performance and spent about half an hour more hobnobbing with fans who paid $50 to $100 to see him at a club in the Illinois capital of Springfield.

The R&B singer posted a video on his Instagram page hours before the early Sunday performance at the Dirty South Lounge. In the video, Kelly calls on the media to take it easy on him, saying he needs to perform in order to make money amid the sexual abuse case he faces.

TV stations WICS and WRSP report that about 100 people were at the 450-person-capacity club to see Kelly, who arrived at 1:30 a.m. There was a $100 entrance fee, which was lowered to $50 once Kelly arrived.

Kelly thanked supporters, sang a line from one of his songs for 28 seconds and spent about 35 minutes taking selfies and conversing with fans.

The stations report that some fans said it wasn’t worth the $100 and that they wouldn’t pay again. Fans also said they separate the accusations from the “artist.”

Emilio Estevez says he’s ‘proud’ of his brother Charlie Sheen for sobriety

Emilio Estevez had a positive update on his brother, former “Two and a Half Men” star, Charlie Sheen, who revealed he was HIV positive four years ago and has remained relatively under the radar ever since.

In an interview with PEOPLE, Estevez said he would definitely work with his brother again and added the two are “close” to collaborating on a new project. “Not enough to talk about right now, but we’re close,” “The Mighty Ducks” star said in the interview.

When asked how his brother is doing Estevez said, “He’s great, amazing.

“I mean, he’s very public about where he’s at right now and we’re just proud of him,” he added.

Estevez made the comments three months after Sheen told Extra he was celebrating one year of sobriety.

In 2015, Sheen revealed that he was HIV-positive and said he was diagnosed about four years before. He said he went public four years later mainly because he was being blackmailed by various people who knew about it and were demanding money to keep silent.

At the time, Sheen admitted that he didn’t always disclose his HIV positive status to his sexual partners, but he insisted he used condoms in those cases. His ex-fiancee, Brett Rossi, however, claimed the opposite saying he had unprotected sex with her and did not disclose his HIV positive status.

On the Today Show, Sheen admitted he did not use a condom several times after his diagnosis but maintained the women who he had unprotected sex with knew about his diagnosis.

“I regret not using a condom one or two times when this whole thing happened,” Sheen said at the time. He also said he regretted “ruining ‘Two and a Half Men’” and regretted not being more involved in his children’s lives growing up.

This Is Why We Value Dogs More Than Cats

0

Cat videos may rule the internet, but dogs possess mastery of their owners’ hearts – at least if spending is any guide.

Dog owners spend US$240 a month caring for their pets, compared with $193 for cats, according to the 2017-2018 National Pet Owners Survey from the American Pet Products Association. The extra money goes primarily toward vet visits and kennel boarding, but dog owners also spend more lavishly on treats, grooming and toys.

My new paper, “Dogs Have Masters, Cats Have Staff,” shines some light on why.

A cat would never let its owner do this. Reuters/Andrew Wong

A growing market

Americans are spending more on pet care as an increasing share of U.S. households own an animal.

A little over two-thirds of all U.S. households own at least one pet, up from 56 percent in 1988, the first year of the National Pet Owners Survey.

RELATED: Ask A Vet: How Old Is My Pet In Dog Or Cat Years?

And almost half of households own a dog, while just 38 percent have a cat. Generational trends suggest this divergence is likely to grow, as millennials are more likely to adopt a canine, while baby boomers tend to be cat lovers.

This is resulting in a growing market for pet-related products and services, which hit an estimated $72 billion in 2018, up from $46 billion a decade earlier.

A willingness to pay

My study builds on earlier research showing that dog owners are willing to spend more on their pets than cat owners – including to save their lives.

One reason suggested was that dog owners had stronger bonds to their pets, which prompted them to spend more on things like veterinary care.

My research uncovered a key factor indicating why dog owners feel more attached to their pets: Dogs are famously more compliant than cats. When owners feel in control of their pets, strong feelings of psychological ownership and emotional attachment develop. And pet owners want to be masters – not servants.

RELATED: Study: Dogs Have Evolving Personalities Just Like Humans

Like other marketing researchers, my work uses “willingness to pay” as an indicator of the economic, rather than emotional, value owners place on their pets. It shows – and compares – how much pet owners would pay to save their animal’s life.

Dog owners are willing to pay twice as much as cat owners for a life-saving surgery.

Who’s in control?

So I carried out three online experiments to explore the role of psychological ownership in these valuations.

In the first experiment, I asked dog or cat owners to write about their pet’s behavior so I could measure their feelings of control and psychological ownership. Participants then imagined their pet became ill and indicated the most they would be willing to pay for a life-saving surgery.

Dog owners, on average, said they would pay $10,689 to save the life of their pet, whereas cat owners offered less than half that. At the same time, dog owners tended to perceive more control and psychological ownership over their pets, suggesting this might be the reason for the difference in spending.

Of course, correlation is not causation. So in a second experiment, I asked participants how much they would be willing to pay to save their animal’s life after I had disturbed their sense of ownership. I did this by asking participants to imagine their pet’s behavior was a result of training it received from a previous owner.

RELATED: Woof! Study Shows Older Dogs Benefit From Hemp Oil

As expected, disrupting their feelings of ownership eliminated the difference in valuation between dogs and cats.

Since pet owners like to control their animals, and since cats are less controllable than dogs, the third experiment went straight to the point: Does the owner value the dog or cat for its own sake or for its compliant behavior?

To find out, I again asked survey respondents to describe how much they’d be willing to pay to save their pet’s life, but this time I randomly assigned one of four scenarios: Participants were told they either own a dog, a cat, a dog that behaves like a cat, or a cat that behaves like a dog.

Participants reported they would pay $4,270 to save the life of their dog, but only $2,462 for their cat. However, this pattern was reversed when the pet’s behavior changed, with dog-behaving cats valued at $3,636, but cat-behaving dogs only $2,372.

These results clearly show that the animal’s behavior is what makes people willing to pay.

When cats act more like dogs, people say they’d spend more money on them.

Master or servant

These findings establish that psychological ownership is a driving factor in dog owners’ higher valuations.

People feel ownership because they perceive that they can control their pets’ behavior. This research even distinguishes the type of control that probably most stimulates ownership feelings: It’s not just physical control, such as being able to pick up an animal or drag it by a leash. Rather, it’s the animal’s voluntary compliance with its owner’s wishes.

No matter how cute and cuddly your kitties may be, they can’t compete with dogs when it comes to giving pet owners the sense of mastery they seek. The Conversation

This Week’s Music: James Blake, Vampire Weekend And Hot Chip

This Week’s Music is a weekly column that discusses the week’s best, worst, and most interesting songs. We try to select songs of different artists and genres to keep things interesting and to please a variety of music fans.

This week’s music column includes James Blake and Rosalia’s collaboration, Vampire Weekend’s latest single and Hot Chip’s amazing new music video. Check them out!

Indie

James Blake and Rosalia – Barefoot In The Park

“Barefoot in the Park” marks Rosalia’s first time singing in English and it’s a successful experiment. Her voice, which is a new take on classic Spanish flamenco sound, somehow fits neatly into James Blake’s mood despite the fact that both artists are extremely different. The single could be more inventive and satisfying but it gets the job done, aided by a gorgeous musical video that’s filled with evocative imagery.

Pop

Vampire Weekend – Unbearably White

RELATED: This Week’s Music: Billie Eilish, Rosalia And Will Young

Since the beginning of the year, Vampire Weekend has slowly been releasing singles in pairs. A couple of days ago they released “This Life” and “Unbearably White,” the former song a little livelier than the latter. “Unbearably White” is quiet and contemplative, building momentum and sound by adding different instruments and dimensions to an initially simple set up of instruments. As the minutes add up, the song expands and contracts, resulting in a peaceful sound that you could spend hours listening to. The band’s upcoming album is called “Father of the Bride” and will be released May 3.

Electronic

Hot Chip – Hungry Child

Hot Chip has a long history and influence over electronic music. The band has been an important precursor to the genre, breaking down barriers and always doing they’re own thing. “Hungry Child” marks the first time Hot Chip has tried to create something more mainstream with similar beats to EDM songs. It’s a good single, a little meandering but definitely fun, aided by an incredible music video starring Martin Starr and Milana Vayntrub. The band’s new album is called “A Bath Full Of Ecstasy” and it’ll be released June 21.

THC Benefits That Have Nothing To Do With Getting High

As we delve deeper into the science of the cannabis plant more medical properties are revealed. While it’s long been declared by marijuana activists that full-plant extract is as medicinal as it gets, cannabinoids are still being isolated and bred for strength. A lot of the time it’s to produce as much CBD as possible.

THC, cannabis’ most popular cannabinoid, is still the most well known of the plant’s components, though. It’s the reason we feel elevated, lifted, high, however you classify it, it’s what gets us in a different headspace. THC can be so potent, especially when dabbing or eating edibles, that a bad trip can manifest and that pleasant high can go right down the tubes.

RELATED: 8 Things Everyone Gets Wrong About Marijuana’s CBD

So if THC is busy getting us stoned and CBD is busy healing, does one really need the mind -altering effects of THC to heal? What about CBD? If you don’t feel it really, is it really working? The answer is yes to the latter and yes again, if you’re a consenting adult, to the prior. CBD is so mild on mood, yet effective, that it’s used to combat childhood epilepsy with great success and no worries about the child’s developing mind from haters.

So what does THC do, aside from feel really good? A myriad of medicinal usages have been discovered either anecdotally or via studies, and they seriously count. For example, did you know that THC stimulates brain cells and even grows new ones? It turns out that in the hippocampus both CBD and THC stimulate growth via CB1 receptors, where they fit into our biological makeup like the perfect puzzle piece – because they are!

Let’s lay down some THC benny’s: there’s pain relief, anti-nausea properties, on its own or combined with melatonin, the THC in an indica provides a wonderful sleep aid and then there are the anti’s. It’s an anti-inflammatory, it’s antibacterial and even an antioxidant that reduces the signs of aging and especially takes out stressors and the many problems they can bring, both mental and physical.

RELATED: The Essential THC Dosing Guide For Marijuana Beginners

Yes, those and many more all have to do with THC and several of those reasons are why cannabis activists have worked so hard to legalize this wonderful plant that was so irresponsibly prohibited. THC is a true lifesaver, as those with HIV/AIDS or with cancer symptoms and side effects are able to eat and sleep once again. Those are major feats in any type of wasting syndrome.

THC is a blessing, not only for our personal enjoyment, but for our health. Even if you’re fit as a fiddle, THC goes to work with the other cannabinoids making your body a better place to live in, and that deserves some serious recognition, ahem, as does getting high… Let’s keep it real.

Could Prioritizing Fun Help You Get Your Work Done Faster?

We’ve all experienced procrastination. It’s a common and relatable affliction that affects a large percentage of people, leaving them with lower salaries, poor work performance, and tons of stress. Putting things off until the last minute may seem like a funny personality trait, but it’s no joke.

BBC reports that there’s a theory out there meant to fix the schedules of those who struggle with procrastination. It centers around the belief that incorporating fun into your schedule can actually help you get things done.

Developed by psychologist Neil Fiore, “unscheduling” is an unorthodox approach that works in two parts. First, it aims to create a weekly schedule where you block out time for specific tasks. But the twist is that these tasks are meant to be fun, like going to dinner, watching TV, or even catching up on sleep. The second part of the method is doing actual work, which is understandably more complicated than the first part.

A lot of data suggests that when we’re busy, we tend to function properly, especially if we’re content with our relationships and day-to-day lives (translation: we’re not sidetracked by emotional distractions).

The BBC explains that this “unschedule” method is actually quite practical:

The ‘unschedule’ works because rather than peering tentatively at your diary and baulking at a sea of dull meetings, overwhelming life admin and intimidating tasks like “write a book”, instead you see a week that you can actually look forward to.

Instead of making time for fun, the unschedule method allows you to switch perspectives by making time for work. In order to get work done, the method requires you to tackle all tasks slowly, devoting a minimum of 15 minutes to it, because, according to Fiore, 15 minutes can be devoted to any task without causing stress or anxiety. With this perspective you’ll be focusing on getting started on a task versus finishing your entire project in one sitting.

Next time you have a daunting task ahead of you, take a deep breath and commit to it for 15 minutes. Then let it go and do something fun.
