Facebook Just Cut Off User Data Access To Hundreds Of Apps

A recent Facebook blog post claims that hundreds of apps have just lost the ability to access Facebook’s user data.

The post — dated July 31, and written by Ime Achiborg, VP of Product Partnerships — explained that these apps were deactivated due to the fact that on March, the company announced that all apps using Facebook’s API would now have to provide  more detailed information for them to remain active on the site and to have access to users’ personal data. These apps had until August 1st to provide the required information.

The post continued by explaining that all apps, even the ones that were approved, will be submitted to periodical reviews, even though they’d still have access to Facebook’s API. Developers of the app would have a limited amount of time to respond and to provide the required information.

Via Facebook:

Our goal with all these changes is to ensure that we better protect people’s Facebook information while also enabling developers to build great social experiences.

After Facebook’s troublesome year, the company has faced backlash from all directions and have been forced to up their security measures while assuring users that their private information is not being mishandled. Even though the company has made all sorts of statements and invested a lot of money on ads, people can’t seem to trust them anymore. A 2018 study conducted by the Ponemon Institute claims that only 27 percent of people think that Facebook would protect their data. In 2017, that number was much higher. Back then, 79 percent of users trusted Facebook with their information.

Prince Harry Is Selling His Audi On Auto Trader For A Cool $94K

The car that made headlines last year when Prince Harry was seen driving (then girlfriend) Meghan Markle to Pippa Middleton’s wedding reception is for sale. The Duke of Sussex is selling his like-new Audi RS6 Avant for $94,000.

The car is being sold on Auto Trader after only a year.

According to the Daily Express, the car only has 4,500 miles on it and is in excellent condition, adding that the Audi RS6 4.0 Avant Tiptronic Quattro 5-door is the sportiest in its range and is equipped with nearly $15,000 of hand-picked extras, such as a panoramic sunroof and privacy glass.

Erin Baker, Auto Trader’s editorial director, told the Express that the Audi is a “smashing car perfectly suited to any aspiring royal.”

The car boasts a 17 reg and low mileage, so it begs the question why is the prince selling so soon? Maybe he’s on the market for a bigger family car, in which case we’d recommend a Skoda Superb. Maybe he’s after an electric car, having driven Meghan away after their wedding in an electric Jag?

The car’s original list price was $119,117.

Meanwhile, The Queen is selling her vintage Rolls Royce. It’ll be auctioned off in the U.K.. next month. According to CNN:

Among the most anticipated lots is a 1953 Rolls-Royce Phantom IV State Landaulette, used by the Queen on state occasions and kept by the British royal family for more than 40 years. The vehicle, which has a top estimate of $2.6 million (£2 million), is the same model as the one used by Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, on her wedding day in May.
A 1985 “Centenary” Silver Spur Saloon used by Princess Diana is expected to sell for as much as $197,000.

The Time Seth Rogen Introduced Tom Cruise To Internet Porn

Back in 2006, Tom Cruise was interested in making a romantic comedy, so he approached director/screenwriter Judd Apatow about possible ideas. Apatow’s usual collaborator Seth Rogen was in the room and the Knocked Up star exploded Cruise’s mind. Yes, it was the time Seth Rogen introduced Tom Cruise to internet porn.

“So we’re talking to him and I don’t know how it came up, but it usually comes up with Seth where he starts talking about marijuana and pornography,” Apatow said on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert”, adding:

And he starts talking about watching adult films on the internet and Tom Cruise goes, ‘What? Wait, you’re saying that there are adult films on the internet?’ And Seth is like, ‘Yeah, there’s all these movies on these websites.’ And Tom Cruise is like, ‘Wait a second, you’re saying if I go on the computer, on the worldwide web, there are people having sex on this [information super] highway?

Apatow says he couldn’t determine if Cruise seriously didn’t know about internet porn or if he was “being very polite.” He assumes it’s the latter, but, “Who knows? We’ll never know.”

Rogen confirmed the story to Vulture. While attending the premiere of the Netflix film Like Father, which is directed and written by his wife, Laura Miller Rogen, and features the actor in a supporting role, Rogen expounded upon the Cruise meeting.

“I didn’t remember that until I heard Judd tell that story,” Rogen said. “I obviously had no recollection of that, and then when I saw him tell it, I was like, ‘Oh, yeah! I told Tom Cruise that internet pornography exists, and he didn’t know.’ Which is crazy!” Don’t worry, Rogen told Cruise how wild this revelation was. “I probably was like, ‘This is crazy you don’t know this.’ I mean, I can’t remember—it was like 12 years ago or something like that. I think generally my reaction was, ‘You are a very sheltered man.’”

In true Rogen fashion, there’s more hijinks involved in his meeting with Cruise. Note to anyone about to meet Tom Cruise at his house: use the bathroom before you arrive.

“That day in Tom Cruise’s driveway, I got to his house, and I had to pee so bad,” he told Vulture. “I very vividly remember this, and he has a very long, winding driveway, and I didn’t want to show up at his house and just pee right away, because I thought it would be an awkward thing,” he said. “So as I was driving up his driveway, I stopped halfway through it and peed in a Snapple bottle I had in my car. And then sealed it up and finished the ride up the driveway, and greeted Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes and his newborn baby, Suri.”  So you know about the time Seth Rogen introduced Tom Cruise to internet porn.

Illinois Now Allows Medical Marijuana In Schools

Governor of Illinois Governor Bruce Vincent Rauner signed legislation Wednesday allowing the use of medical marijuana in schools. House Bill 4870, also known as Ashley’s Law, amends the Compassionate Use of Medical Cannabis Pilot Program Act.

House Bill 4870 was originally filed on February 14th by Representative Lou Lang (D) 16th District. Representative Kelly M. Cassidy (D) of the 14th District was the chief co-signer on February 27th.

The bipartisan initiative of House Sponsors includes Reps. Lou LangKelly M. CassidyCarol Ammons, Nicholas K Smith and Laura Fine while Senate Sponsors include Cristina CastroLaura M. MurphyLinda HolmesIris Y. MartinezPatricia Van Pelt and Neil Anderson.

According to the bill’s status on the Illinois General Assembly’s website, House Bill 4870, “Amends the School Code. Requires a school district, public school, charter school, or nonpublic school to authorize a parent or guardian of a student who is a qualifying patient to administer a medical-cannabis-infused product to the student on school premises or a school bus if both the student (as a qualifying patient) and the parent or guardian (as a designated caregiver) have been issued registry identification cards under the Compassionate Use of Medical Cannabis Pilot Program Act.”

House Bill 4870 will bring relief to students who suffer from a host of disruptive and debilitating medical afflictions such as epilepsy, Autism, Tourette’s Syndrome, and ADHD.

Medicines to treat such conditions derived from cannabis include cannabidiol (CBD) or Epidolex, which treat rare forms of epilepsy, Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, and Dravet syndrome.

Medical marijuana can be more effective and have fewer side effects than other medications when treating some conditions, as medical marijuana naturally reduces inflammation, which is the root of many ailments.

The bill includes a caveat that “a parent or guardian may not administer a medical cannabis infused product if the administration would create disruption to the school’s educational environment or would cause exposure of the product to other students.“

Members of the school’s staff are not required to administer a medical cannabis infused product to a student.

House Floor Amendment No. 1 describes that in addition to a parent or legal guardian of a registered and qualified medical marijuana patient, an adult individual registered with the Department of Public Health as a designated caregiver may also administer medical cannabis infused product to that student.

The provision is referred to as Ashley’s Law, after an 11-year-old girl from northern Illinois who attends school in Schaumburg. Ashley’s school denied her medication, prompting her parents to sue their local school district.

“Children should not have to choose between their medication and their education,” said Senator Cristina Castro. “Qualified patients have the right to have access to their medicine no matter where they are. I am happy to see this measure signed into law.”

House Bill 4870 passed the Senate and House with unanimous support and went into effect immediately in the state of Illinois.

Why Do Some Men Feel Sad After Sex?

For the first time ever, researchers have discovered that many men suffer from something called Postcoital Dysphoria — in other words, post-sex depression.

Until now, the condition was thought to only effect women.

“We had conducted research on PCD in women, and the findings on the percentage of women who experience PCD seemed robust,” Robert Schweitzer, an author of the latest study from QUT’s School of Psychology and Counselling, told Newsweek. “And yet there were no similar studies relating to men.”

The study, published in the Journal of Sex & Marital Therapy, was conducted by scientists from the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) in Brisbane, Australia, who analyzed the results of an international survey involving more than 1,200 men from the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, Russia, New Zealand, Germany and other countries.

According to the study:

41 percent reported experiencing PCD in their lifetime and 20% reported experiencing PCD in the previous four weeks. Between 3 – 4 percent of the sample reported experiencing PCD on a regular basis. PCD was found to be associated with current psychological distress, childhood sexual abuse, and several sexual dysfunctions.

Those dealing with PCD described feelings of wanting to be left alone, dissatisfaction, and general feelings of being “down in the dumps.” One participant described feeling “emotionless and empty”, while others described a sense of shame or feeling that something was wrong with them, reports Newsweek.

Schweitzer says this phenomenon is “counterintuitive, especially given the dominant cultural beliefs (or silence) round the experience of males,” especially in Western culture.

“These assumptions are pervasive within masculine subculture and include that males always desire and experience sex as pleasurable,” he said. “The experience of PCD contradicts these dominant cultural assumptions about the male experience [of] sexual activity and of the resolution phase.”

While it’s still unknown what causes PCD, there are likely several factors at play, both biological and psychological, according to researchers.

Now You Can See Exactly How Much Time You Waste On Instagram

Oh, lordy. We knew this was going to happen. Social media is slowly draining our life battery and now we can find out exactly how much. Both Facebook and Instagram have made it possible for us to find out exactly how much time we spend on the apps.

If you want to find this metaphorical nuclear button, here’s what you do. For Instagram, go to your Profile, select Settings, and tap Your Activity. And then close your eyes and squeeze something tight, preferably your knees while softly rocking back and forth in a dark corner. Because here you will have access to a bar graph that breaks down the average amount of time you spent on the app per day (or week, if you want to ease into this mess).

https://giphy.com/gifs/reaction-5tPK911wg0egE

Now, if you are not happy with that number, you have the option to Set A Daily Reminder and Notification Settings to help you manage your time on social media. Daily Reminders allow you to choose how much time you want to spend on Instagram each day, while Notification Settings allow you to “mute” notifications for up to eight hours.

The same goes for Facebook. To find out how much time you waste on the FacePlace (as moms like to call it), go to your Settings, and tap Your Time On Facebook.

It’s been documented that having access to social media can be beneficial to your health — keeping up with friends, seeing dog and baby photos, etc. —but when you start using the apps for evil, like stalking your ex or and just generally giving yourself a sense of 24/7 FOMO, things start to take a hard left. These new features will hopefully reduce the stress associated with this type of participatin. But let’s be real, they probably won’t.

This ‘Game Of Thrones’ Castle Is For Sale And Cheaper Than A New York Apartment

“Game of Thrones” fans now have a chance to live inside the show they love so dearly. Northern Ireland’s Gosford Castle, which serves as the fictional Riverrun in Season 3, has hit the market and it’s cheaper than buying a Manhattan apartment.

The castle listed on the market at £500,000 (about $656, 267). The median price of a Manhattan apartment in 2015 was $915,000.

“GoT” fans will recognize Gosford as the ancestral castle of House Tully and central to Robb Stark’s storyline in the third season. While he was plotting his fatal campaign against the Lannisters, he lodged in the castle. The exterior of the castle loomed in the background when Robb memorably executed former ally Rickard Kastark, a move that would lead to his eventual doom.

&

But the castle’s real-life history is fascinating. Check the listing information:

Built in the mid-1800s by the 2nd Earl of Gosford, Archibald Acheson, Gosford Castle is a grade A listed building.  It was designed in the Norman Revival style by London architect Thomas Hopper and was occupied by the Earls of Gosford until 1921. During the Second World War the Castle was commandeered and used to accommodate troops and prisoner of war camp was set up in the estate.

Following the war the Achesons sold the Castle to the Ministry of Agriculture who established the 590 acre demesne as Gosford Forest Park which was later designated Northern Ireland’s first conservation forest in 1986. The castle fell back into military use during The Troubles before being run as a hotel from 1983.

Part of the castle underwent renovations to convert the castle into luxury-style apartment units for potential investors to maximize profits. But come on, we all know the real selling point is ‘Game of Thrones’ here. Just don’t host any wedding here, please.

Check Out This ‘Shark Tank’ Inspired Marijuana Competition

To foster entrepreneurship and innovation in healthcare at its school, Thomas Jefferson University developed the Jefferson Acceleration Zone, or JAZ. Every year the school hosts a “Shark Tank”-style competition called the JAZ Tank, and hemp and marijuana start-ups will headline in 2018.

Though past winners have featured innovation in chemotherapy and artificial insemination procedures, cannabis will be the theme this year. “CannaVation” is what organizers are calling it, and the competition is open to Jefferson students, staff, and alumni, as well as the general public.

Considering the contest’s focus on health care, the cannabis theme could present some exciting potential. Whether it’s vaporizer dose control or re-inventing the grow house process, the CannaVation competition should create positive developments in using medical cannabis to treat patients.

“We want to see creative and different approaches to the industry, especially in ancillary businesses,” said Zoe Selzer McKinley, who serves as director at the Jefforson’s Lambert Center for the Study of Medicinal Cannabis and Hemp. “We want businesses that have some development already in place,” he added.

The grand prize winner will be handsomely rewarded with a cash prize of $10,000, plus free consulting services and legal support for patent application. Judges will also reward up to two runners-up, who will receive $5,000 and the same legal services. A fun small print detail for potential applicants: “JAZ reserves the right to award additional prizes.”

If interested in joining the CannaVation competition, the online application is due by August 20. Go here to learn more about the competition.

Which One Of These 6 States Will Legalize Marijuana Next?

It almost seems that marijuana legalization cannot miss. More than half the nation has made it legal for either medicinal or recreational purposes, and nearly every time the issue makes it on the ballot somewhere a heavy majority shows up in support. Even state lawmakers are becoming more in tune with the pot discussion. The only setback, at this point, is the fact that the federal government continues to act as though Nixon is still running the show. Nevertheless, there are no signs of a slow down when it comes to ending pot prohibition at the state level. Several more jurisdictions are on track for this reform. These are the six to watch, according to NORML.

Michigan

Although cannabis advocates have experienced some snags in getting this issue on the ballot in recent years, whether or not a recreational marijuana market should be unleashed in the Great Lake States is slated to be answered in the upcoming November election.

If met with approval, Michigan would be the first state in the Midwest to allow adults 21 and over to purchase cannabis in a manner similar to beer. And its chances are good. Some of the latest polls show that 61 percent of the voters intend to support the initiative.

New Jersey

Many believed the Garden State would be the next to ending marijuana prohibition. Governor Phil Murphy promised during his campaign that establishing a taxed and regulated pot market would be one of his top priorities. Of course, there have been some problems getting a bill through the legislative channels. Still, it is just a matter of time. Murphy reiterated during his latest budget address that legalizing marijuana was the “only sensible option.” The Senate is expected to start discussing a bill in the near future.

North Dakota

There is a solid push to legalize recreational marijuana in this part of the country. A campaign aimed at putting the question on the ballot in the upcoming November election recently met its signature goal. If approved by the Secretary of State, the concept of giving adults the freedom to buy weed in the same way they do with alcohol would be sorted out in a matter of months. The state approved a medical marijuana program in 2016. It has yet to be implemented. Not a single patient has been serviced.

New York

The Empire State is likely one of the next to legalize marijuana for adult use. Although Governor Cuomo has been resistant to this idea, a recent report from the Health Department, which was commissioned by Cuomo, shows that a taxed and regulated system would be the most logical step.

“A regulated marijuana program enjoys broad support and would have significant health, social justice, and economic benefits. … Regulating marijuana enables public health officials to minimize the potential risks of marijuana use through outreach, education, quantity limits at point of sale, quality control, and consumer protection. … The positive effects of a regulated marijuana market in NYS outweigh the potential negative impacts,” the report reads.

Oklahoma

Voters recently approved a statewide medical marijuana program. It wasn’t long thereafter that cannabis advocates decided to go for broke and push the concept of legalizing for recreational use. While the initiative is still in the signature-collecting phase, reports show that it has a fighting chance of qualifying for a sport on the ballot this November.

Delaware

The state is convinced that marijuana legalize is the right thing to do. Polls show that more than 60 percent of the voters support allowing adults 21 and older to purchase cannabis from legitimate sources. Even the lawmakers are in favor of this issue. The issue is expected to advance in 2019.

Kim Kardashian Says She Doesn’t Like Presents Anymore; Duchess Kate And The Queen Are Meghan’s BFFs

KIM KARDASHIAN: ‘WE DON’T DO GIFTS… I DON’T LIKE PRESENTS ANYMORE’

Some highlights:

On gift-giving: “I worry about giving my kids too much. We don’t do gifts. They have to really earn it. But we talk about it all the time, about not getting too much and just trying to be as grounded and well-rounded as possible.”<

Post-Paris robbery, she changed: “I don’t like presents anymore. I just don’t want that stuff right now. I don’t buy a lot. I used to buy myself something every birthday and just be like, ‘OK, if I work hard all year then I can treat myself to something—like a car or a pair of earrings. Something that I really wanted all year. But I’ve been getting rid of my cars. I used to really care. I loved cars. I still like them and I have a certain look, but I don’t care like I used to.”

She always worked: “I always was working. I never asked people for money. That was never really my thing. I always just figured it out.” Now, Kim is unsure if “it will be the same” for her kids. “It’s a different time. I don’t know if I’m going to do that. I’d have to discuss that with Kanye.”

She’s on a strict budget: “I don’t talk about specifics; I find that to be tacky and just inappropriate.” Rest assured, she writes, “I’m really on top of my financial situation. I do everything. I see everything, write every check—I’m on top of every last detail. I was always taught to be like that. It’s definitely helpful to have a manager or someone pay your bills so they go out on time, but I think once you start giving too much control away, you could really lose sight of what you have and what you need to do, especially if you spend a lot and have a big lifestyle.”

She knows what she spends monthly: “[I know] what it costs to run my household. It’s hard all the time to stick within a budget, for sure, but I think it’s a good guideline. And I’m the type of personality where I’m like, ‘OK, I really want to buy this, so I have to make this in order to be able to buy that for myself.’ So, I’ll make it happen.”

She’s been downsizing: “which has been making my managers happy… Kanye is a bigger shopper than me. He has big archives of stuff…”

PEOPLE: DUCHESS KATE & THE QUEEN ARE DUCHESS MEGHAN’S ‘CLOSEST FRIENDS’ – REALLY?

When it comes to feeling supported within the royal family, Meghan Markle has the ultimate champion in husband Prince Harry, but she also has two very senior royals to lean on as she adjusts to her new life: Queen Elizabeth and Kate Middleton. Since officially becoming a royal after her wedding on May 19, Meghan has had high-profile outings with both the Queen and Princess Kate. And their relationships are strengthening behind the scenes as well.

“What’s characterized these months are the two great relationships that she has struck up with the Queen and with Catherine,” Robert Lacey, historical consultant for The Crown, tells PEOPLE. “They seem to be her closest friends and partners in the official set-up.”

In fact, Meghan’s royal stamp of approval came very early on from a few beloved members of the Queen’s entourage: her corgis.

“Harry gave the clue to it when in the [engagement] interview he talked about how well the corgis had taken to her instantly. That seems to be a metaphor for the Queen and everybody else has taken their cue from that,” Lacey adds.
