People Are Returning Outfits Once They’ve Worn Them And The Reason Is So 2018

0

There’s a silly (and slightly unethical) new trend picking up steam and social media is to blame. The trend of  “wardrobing” involves people buying cute outfits, snapping a photo for Instagram, and then returning the clothes.

According to new a new poll commissioned by credit card company Barclaycard, one in 10 people feels enough pressure from fashion bloggers and their #OOTD (outfit of the day) to go out and buy a new set of clothing just for Instagram purposes. Heaven forbid, they’re snapped in the same outfit twice.

And these are not millennials. Those feeling the pressure, according to the study, are 35-44 year-olds. Nearly one in five (17 percent) report that they’ve bought clothes just to hashtag it.

Celebrity stylist Alex Longmore tells the Daily Mail she’s guilty of joining the craze. ‘I do snap and send back in order to showcase the latest high street and designer trends to my clients and my followers,” she says, adding:

I think it has become such a popular trend because celebrities and social media influencers are documenting so many different outfits on their Instagram accounts, showing a different look every time they go out or multiple looks in one day.

The OOTD hashtag currently has more than 200 million posts, and that number is climbing by the…day.

Fashion commentator Caryn Franklin tells The Guardian that the OOTD hashtag, among others, has encouraged “a combination of the heady alchemy of narcissism and dysfunctional consumption”.

George Allardice of Barclaycard says, “It’s interesting to see the social media trend further fueling the returns culture. We know from our research that returns are having a big impact on retailers.”

What’s potentially even more interesting than that is that men are more likely than women to partake in “wardrobing” with 12 per cent admitting to it versus just seven per cent of women, according to the Daily Mail.

Allardice says the value of items being sent back was as high as nearly $9 billion a year to retailers.

The Role Medical Cannabis Plays In Treating Diverticulitis

What do abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and inflammation have in common? They’re all symptoms of diverticulitis, which is a painful medical condition that mostly affects people over the age of 50. As people age, they’re more likely to develop diverticulitis. Specifically, women aged 50 and above are more likely than men to develop diverticulitis. However, men younger than 50 years old are more likely to develop diverticulitis than women.

Although there are different diverticulitis treatment methods available, many contain their own list of adverse side effects. For this reason alone, more people are turning towards cannabis due to its safety and effectiveness. Read on to find out more about diverticulitis and how cannabis can help treat this condition.

All About Diverticulitis

To understand diverticulitis, it’s important to first understand what diverticula are. Diverticula are small yet bulging pouches, which form within the body’s digestive system lining. These diverticula pouches are generally located within the body’s colon/lower part of the large intestine. Diverticula are relatively common, especially if you’re at least 40 years old. Although these pouches don’t usually cause serious problems, if they get inflamed and/or infected, the diagnosis is known as diverticulitis.

In addition, diverticulitis can cause individuals to feel nauseous and experience severe abdominal pain alongside a fever and/or an obvious change in bowel patterns. Normally, if diverticulitis is categorized as mild, the main treatment options consist of diet changes, rest, and sometimes antibiotics. However, if diverticulitis is categorized as severe and/or recurring, surgery may be needed.

Possible Diverticulitis Causes

For years, researchers have been trying to pinpoint the cause of diverticulitis. So far, certain studies indicate that some people are more prone to having diverticulitis due to their genetic makeup. However, other research findings indicate that links have been made between diverticular disease-causing issues and the following factors: lack of exercise, consumption of specific medications including steroids and NSAIDs, smoking, obesity, alcohol consumption, low-fiber diets, and a suppressed immune system.

It’s possible for diverticulitis to begin with trapped stool or bacteria stored in a pouch within the body’s colon. Normally, diverticulitis occurs because of an increase in unhealthy bacteria and a decrease in healthy bacteria within the body’s colon. If you’re diagnosed with diverticulitis, you’ll most likely experience inflammation and/or a diverticula infection.

Diverticulitis Symptoms & Treatment Options

In most cases, the inflamed pouches caused by diverticulitis cause pain in the lower left side of the abdomen. Alongside pain and inflammation, diverticulitis delivers other symptoms including chills, fevers, diarrhea, constipation, nausea, and/or vomiting. It’s also possible for diverticulitis patients to experience a change in mental health. Each year, roughly 200,000 Americans are hospitalized for this condition, which demonstrates how severe diverticulitis can be.

Moreover, diverticulitis treatment methods depend on the severity of the patient’s condition. Sometimes, antibiotics and pain medications are prescribed. However, some diverticulitis patients may need surgery and/or heat treatments in addition to diet changes. To avoid negative side effects caused by antibiotics and other medications, many diverticulitis patients are turning towards cannabis instead.

Cannabis As A Diverticulitis Treatment Method

Overall, cannabis can help treat diverticulitis and its symptoms thanks to the plant’s content and the body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS). The ECS works to trigger numerous biochemical interactions via different signal messages. Several of the interactions that get triggered occur between the body’s immune system, gut, and brain. In general, cannabinoid receptors are located within the body’s gastrointestinal tract, and recently, it was discovered that CB2 receptors increase in damaged and/or ill intestines. Therefore, this indicates that cannabinoid consumption could be useful for those experiencing gastrointestinal disease including diverticulitis.

On the same note, diverticulitis symptoms like nausea, vomiting, inflammation, and pain can be treated with cannabis. Since cannabis contains analgesic properties, it can deliver abdominal pain-relief in diverticulitis patients. Additionally, one powerful cannabinoid, Cannabidiol contains anti-inflammatory properties, which can deliver anti-inflammatory relief to those with diverticulitis.

Generally, it’s common for diverticulitis patients to experience nausea and/or vomiting, which can be effectively relieved with cannabis due to its anti-emetic and anti-nausea properties. Aside from pain, inflammation, and nausea, many diverticulitis patients turn to cannabis to help treat anxiety, depression, sleep issues, and appetite changes.

Although over-the-counter medications are commonly used for diverticulitis pain management, many NSAIDs can result in irritation and/or damage to the stomach or liver lining. Fortunately, cannabis doesn’t lead to these issues, but rather relieves pain and inflammation without negative side effects.

Overall, diverticulitis can significantly impact one’s quality of life and well-being. Although pharmaceutical medications are often consumed to help treat diverticulitis, cannabis is a safe and effective treatment method that delivers no adverse side effects. Would you rather relieve your diverticulitis symptoms once and for all via cannabis consumption or consume NSAIDs/other drugs and experience even more symptoms? The choice is yours.

Weed Expert Fact Checks Stoner Movies

Stoner movies. We’ve all watched them and laughed at their expense. The cult comedy form birthed by Cheech and Chong has changed steadily throughout the years, but the jokes usually revolve around the same goofy, nonsensical punchlines you enjoy most while stoned.

They’re also not always correct or based on truth. That’s why Vulture asked Michael Zaytsev, founder of High NY — New York’s largest cannabis advocacy organization — to debunk some of the myths found in stoner movies. Check below to read a couple of our favorites.

On Reefer Madness:

“Cannabis can enhance listening to music and the joy one derives from that. It can encourage you to hear it differently. But in this scene, this guy is losing his mind slowly but surely. Depending on what you’re puffing on, that can happen temporarily. I don’t think that losing your cool in a fit of rage then going in and killing someone is a honest portrayal.”

On Pineapple Express “cross-joints”:

“Almost everyone I know is some stoner MacGyver. The term I prefer is stonerd. The future is now I have to say. Because there isn’t just these feats of engineering, but all other sorts of amazing ways to roll joints. You have to be an origami master to actually craft. The creativity of a motivated pothead can astound.”

On Dazed and Confused:

“Martha Washington does indeed sound like a hip, hip lady based on that description. It’s hotly debated whether the Founding Fathers grew hemp or smoked cannabis. Many people don’t know there was a time when, in the colonies, you could pay your taxes with hemp. So there is legitimacy to some of what he was saying. Though, of course, people were growing hemp for industrial use and agricultural use and not the species of the plant that has psychoactive effects.”

This Nightclub In Vegas Has Its Own Cryptocurrency

Cryptocurrencies have become a big gamble for investors and businesses that are looking to shake things up. These currencies provide an opportunity to obtain large rewards, yet their track record is not the most reliable or predictable.

MORE Las Vegas, a special VIP area of the Hyde nightclub inside the Bellagio, launched in April and is the first cryptocurrency nightclub in the city. Run by Peter Klamka, an investor who’s had previous experience with Bitcoin as a form of payment in clubs, the business created its own coin which serves as token and membership.

“MORE Coin is the intersection of nightlife and crypto demonstrating a real-world application of blockchain tech,” Klamka told Mashable.

If you own over 5,000 MORE coins then you’re a member of the place, even though the membership number changes periodically. A spokesperson for MORE said that there are over 1,500 members of the club, making it a pretty exclusive and nascent bunch that’s probably filled with people that are already involved in the blockchain business.

The staff accepts regular dollars or cryptocurrency as payment, so the club is not missing out on patrons that don’t know what cryptocurrency is. According to Klamka, there are plans of opening up other spots in different cities and selling and buying memberships via blockchain.

Despite the fact that the largest cryptocurrencies on the market, Bitcoin and Ethereum, have had a bad year in terms of business and scams, people are still dazzled by the idea of cryptocurrency. No one knows where the technology is going or what it can do, they just know that cryptocurrency is different and that it might provide them a chance to get rich and do something that’s never been done before.

The Temperature In The Pacific Ocean Is Changing The Weather In Southern California

0

Climate change is influencing water temperatures, breaking records along San Diego beaches during the month of August. These warm waters have also influenced the lives of people who live near the coast, creating an unusually warm climate in an area that is normally of moderate temperature.

Weather reports show that the extremely high weather off San Diego never dropped to a normal level during the entire month of August. According to Mashable, Mark Moede, National Weather Service Meteorologist, says that San Diego’s current weather is unprecedented. “It’s been really, really warm and uncomfortable to try and sleep in. The nights are getting to be intolerable.”

Waters over 81 degrees Fahrenheit contribute to this stuffy weather, heating masses of air located over the ocean which later migrate to the coast.

Other factors that influence the weather are global warming, which has set high temperature records throughout the U.S., and the hot mass of air that has been sitting over the southwestern area of the country.

Aretha Franklin: Sublime Soul Diva Whose Voice Inspired The Civil Rights Movement

0

It is no coincidence that two of Aretha Franklin’s celebrated contemporaries who travelled to Detroit to see the singer in the last stages of her illness were Stevie Wonder and Jesse Jackson. It is hard to overestimate Franklin’s importance to both music and the civil rights movement – and the presence of one of music’s greatest figures alongside Martin Luther King Jr’s right-hand man at her bedside in the final days of her life is a fitting tribute to one of the true greats of Black American culture.

Aretha Franklin was the “Queen of Soul”. One of the bestselling recording artists of all time, she became famous in the 1960s as a singer with a uniquely expressive voice possessing great passion and control. Her hit songs in the late 1960s tapped into the spirit of the civil rights movement while her hit cover (and gendered re-authoring) of Otis Redding’s Respect was an anthem of black female empowerment.

The first woman to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987, Franklin’s voice was declared one of Michigan’s important “natural resources” two years before. She won 18 Grammy Awards including the Lifetime Achievement Award (in 1994) and presided over a rich recorded musical legacy preserved in 42 studio albums, 131 singles, six live albums and more. Her iconic performances and productions came to define the term “soul music” in the 20th century, setting the standard for black female vocal excellence.

Gospel origins

The daughter of celebrity Detroit minister CL Franklin, Franklin was born in Memphis in 1942 and raised in Detroit, starting her singing career in the choir at her father’s New Bethel Baptist Church. She belonged to a generation of African American artists who migrated from the south during a time when segregation and Jim Crow law was still in effect, who then went on to participate in mainstream American culture.

Her deep connection to the southern freedom movement was familial and spiritual as well as musical – her father was actively involved with Democratic party politics and the civil rights movement. Politicians and activists – along with many of the gospel superstars of the day – were a fixture in the family home. As a result, Franklin received formative musical mentoring from stars such as Dinah Washington and Mahalia Jackson in addition to inheriting a strong commitment to social justice. She was to support progressive politics throughout her career.

For people stuck in political struggles for equality and respect, Franklin’s voice came to articulate the collective emotion, frustration, strength and depth of their experiences. Her voice rang out at historical political milestones – at the 1968 Democratic party convention in Chicago that shortly followed the assassinations of Martin Luther King Jr and Robert F Kennedy, and at the inauguration of the first African American president Barack Obama in 2009. She also performed at pre-inauguration concerts for Democratic party presidents Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton.

Inspired to follow in the footsteps of Sam Cooke, Franklin began her solo singing career in 1960 performing on the gospel circuit and signing a record deal with Columbia Records. Her first secular albums in the early 1960s blended R&B styles with pop and jazz and achieved only modest success. It wasn’t until her move to Atlantic records and a deliberate return to gospel music stylings in 1967 that Franklin made her commercial breakthrough.

Recording at FAME studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, working in partnership with Atlantic co-owner and producer Jerry Wexler and the legendary Muscle Shoals rhythm section, Franklin’s debut for Atlantic, I Never Loved a Man the Way I Love You, was certified gold in the same year of its release. Her work with Wexler at Muscle Shoals during this period spawned many well-known hits such as Chain of Fools, (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman, Respect, and I Say A Little Prayer.

Great interpreter

While she recorded and performed her own compositions from time to time (hit 1968 single and feminist anthem Think is an original song of hers), Franklin earned a great part of her fame as a unique interpreter of other people’s songs. Through gospel-influenced musical rearrangement, and her striking changes to melodic content, she effectively re-authored material written by others, asserting a sense of creative ownership through spirited and dynamic vocal performance.

Franklin often altered the context of the existing lyric through her inflection and emphasis or by introducing call and answer interplay with her background singers. These voices of sisterly support were often provided by her very own siblings, Erma and Carolyn Franklin or The Sweet Inspirations (a girl group founded by Cissy Houston and Lee Warwick, the mothers of Whitney and Dionne). Using these techniques, as she did with Respect, lyrics could be repositioned to reflect the black female perspective. Another later example of this can be found in her interpretation of the Rolling Stones’ Jumpin’ Jack Flash in 1986, which was used as the theme tune for the Whoopi Goldberg film of the same name.

Music culture owes Franklin a debt for bringing ecstatic pentecostal fervour to popular music, pushing the expressive boundaries of the contemporary singing voice. She was one of the first true great divas of soul (alongside Diana Ross) – fusing gospel and African American spiritual music traditions with the blues, pop and R&B to create the template of vocal expressiveness and authenticity that artists aspire to still. In doing so she set the stage for the technical virtuosity of Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey.

The ConversationA fierce musical talent not only in sensitive and dynamic vocal interpretation but also as a skilled pianist and arranger, Franklin demanded respect from us. And because of her many great artistic and cultural achievements, it will forever be given.

Alcohol Invests $4 Billion In Cannabis

Booze is starting to go in big fun weed.  A major Alcohol invests $4 billion in cannabis, and it could be a trend. Constellation Brands is the owner of beers we know and enjoy, like Corona, Modelo and Pacifico. Now the umbrella of these mega brands has invested $4 billion dollars in the Canadian cannabis company, Canopy Growth.

While Constellation Brands saw a dip in stock after the move, which is likely related to market trends, Canopy Growth saw a 26.6 percent increase in theirs. Canopy Growth CEO Bruce Linton sat down on CNN and said that the investment, “gave them more credibility.”

The two companies have been working together since October 2017, but Linton said, “this shows that Constellation gets it. This is happening globally very quickly.” And that’s the truth. Countries around the world are working on marijuana reform, from the UK to Jamaica, people want their ganja and they don’t want to go to jail for it.

According to Linton, Canopy Growth is the number one cannabis brand as of now. They’re based in Canada, but operate in 11 different countries. Not the U.S. though, where cannabis is still federally illegal despite 30 states and the District of Columbia having implemented their own variations of legalization laws at the state and district levels.

Canopy has been operating under the medical marijuana rules to serve a huge portion of Canadian patients. But when recreational cannabis sales will become fully legal in Canada on October 17, that’s when the market is really going to open up for them. Perhaps imminent legalization contributed to the timing of Constellation’s big investment, right ahead of the curve and right on time.

“It’s kinda like our experiment,” said Linton, “Canada allows us to create formulations from plants, so we think about running clinical trials, both with humans and animals. We use those same plants and extractions to think about, well how can we create beverages that don’t have any calories, that aren’t sponsoring depression or getting quiet, but might make you feel a little more upbeat?”

As long as Canopy continues to think compassionately and outside the box, the path before them will open up to them even more monetarily, but most importantly they’ll have a standard to set. As the largest cannabis company to date, they have the opportunity to do things the right way. In a way that treats all imbibers like sacred human beings and that seeks to find via research the next big breakthrough with the miraculous cannabis plant.

Disney Definitively Refuses To Reinstate James Gunn On ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’

Has there ever been a more on-again, off-again celebrity relationship than the one between Disney and director James Gunn? Earlier this year Disney fired Gunn from the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy movie after old tweets resurfaced that included rape and pedophilia jokes, which could jeopardize Disney and Marvel’s family-friendly image, particularly in the #MeToo era. The tweets mostly came from 2009-2011 and were dug up by alt-right agitators aiming to undermine the left.

Cast members of the Guardians movies came to Gunn’s defense, including stars like Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, and Vin Diesel. In an open letter signed by the actors, they stated their disappointment in Gunn’s “inappropriate jokes,” but emphasized they “fully support” Gunn, privately and publicly pressuring Disney to reinstate Gunn on the movie.

Disney appeared to be considering the actors’ request but will now firmly stand by their decision not to reinstate Gunn, according to Variety. The trade publication detailed a meeting between Gunn and studio chairman Alan Horn where Gunn and his representative pushed hard for a second chance. While the meeting was apparently “civil and professional,” Horn would not change his mind.

Notably absent from the meeting was producer Kevin Feige, who is often regarded as the architect behind Marvel’s Cinematic Universe. He was out of town and unable to attend, according to sources. Rumors circulated that Feige had joined the push behind the scenes to reinstate Gunn, though Feige will now stand behind Disney’s decision. Once he returns, Feige will join Marvel and Disney in finding a new director for the next Guardians installment.

Pratt revealed this week in an Associated Press interview that “it’s not an easy time” for him and that he’s consciously stayed away from media. Dave Bautista has also threatened to quit the Guardians  movies should Gunn not be reinstated.

“We all love James and he’s a good friend of ours, but we also really love playing the Guardians of the Galaxy,” Pratt said. “It’s a complicated situation for everybody.”

Tom Cruise No Longer Speaking To Jamie Foxx; Demi Lovato’s Overdose Will Cost Her Millions

TOM CRUISE NO LONGER SPEAKING WITH JAMIE FOXX – EXCLUSIVE

Former best friends, Tom Cruise and Jamie Foxx, are now officially not speaking, and it has everything to do with Katie Holmes.

“As Jamie and Katie have become more and more public about dating, Tom has become more and more distant with his former best friend, Jamie. Tom hasn’t spoken with Jamie in months and now the friendship is officially over,” sources tell STRAIGHT SHUTER. “The final straw was when pictures of his ex-wife and Jamie were taken frolicking on a beach in Malibu together. People close to Tom think that the timing was very suspicious. On the same weekend that ‘Mission Impossible’ was released in theaters, Katie and Jamie get caught together. They have managed to keep their relationship on the down-low for years. They are never seen together, but the weekend that Tom has the biggest release of his career they are photographed playing with each other on the beach. No way is this a coincidence; this is personal! “

DEMI LOVATO’S OVERDOSE WILL COST HER MILLIONS – EXCLUSIVE

Demi Lovato’s recent overdose not only almost cost the young singer her life, it also is costing her a massive amount in lost income.

“Demi can have a musical comeback but it is going to be really hard to win back those big corporate sponsors and network TV shows after such an ugly episode,” sources tell STRAIGHT SHUTER. “Demi is going to have to fight to prove that she can be trusted. Winning over her fans will be much easier than winning back the business people who decide who they want to sponsor, and the TV executives that are looking to pay big money for talent to host primetime shows. This recent overdose could end up costing her millions in lost revenue.”

“Singers now make more money from endorsements and TV gigs that they do from singing,” one top industry insider tells us. “No company is going to want to take a risk or be associated with Demi for a while. She is too controversial at the moment.”
