Meghan Markle’s First Wedding Had Marijuana Party Bags

Though Meghan Markle’s first marriage certainly didn’t pan out, the wedding sounds like it was a blast. In an interview with Markle’s estranged father in the Daily Mail, it also sounds planned out to the final detail. All men were provided with white shirts to wear and the wedding turned into a party immediately following the 15-minute ceremony.

Each of the 100 guests were reportedly given a fabric gift satchel from the couple with a note and a plastic party bag of cannabis within. Thomas Markle said that it may not have been legal in Jamaica at the time, but that it was no big deal there. He also said that he gave his baggie away and didn’t smoke or think that Meghan did either.

That sounds like a hard sell though, because weed gift bags are pretty specific. Sure, she booked the same famous Jamaican Inn that’s hosted guests like Marilyn Monroe and Arthur Miller as well as James Bond writer Ian Fleming. Sure, she reportedly “micro-managed” it down to the last detail. But that also means she planned on handing out cannabis, no questions asked, and that makes it seem likely that Markle was at least once a fan of the herb herself.

In the UK, cannabis remains illegal for recreational use, but was recently given the green light on medical use for certain conditions. Marijuana is a very popular illegal substance there, and though it remains illegal, the United Kingdom is the biggest exporter of legal cannabis in the world.

GW Pharmaceuticals famously created the cannabis-based drugs Sativex and Epidiolex and the company calls the UK home. Despite the seemingly marijuana-themed facts of the country, cannabis remains a Class B drug in the UK, along with amphetamines, barbiturates, codeine and ketamine.

Maybe the now-Duchess will be a champion for further loosening of prohibition in the UK, but no one should hold their breath waiting. There’s a big leap between clever weed wedding party gifts (Meghan and Prince Harry gave out beige and blue totes filled with goodies that were certain to not include weed…) and being vocal on such a controversial subject while inhabiting such a public and royal role.

CDC Warns Against Eating Cookie Dough And The Internet Is Not Having It

0

It’s been a tough couple of weeks for foods. First there was romaine lettuce and now, the CDC is warning against eating raw cookie dough. You can imagine which food caused the most outrage.

The CDC took the opportunity to announce this ahead of the holidays, ruining all of our raw cookie dough-eating plans. They released a statement called “Say No To Raw Dough!,” where they warned that the consumption and handling of these uncooked materials could lead to different diseases in children and adults.

Via the CDC:

When you prepare homemade cookie dough, cake mixes, or even bread, you may be tempted to taste a bite before it is fully cooked. But steer clear of this temptation—eating or tasting unbaked products that are intended to be cooked, such as dough or batter, can make you sick. Children can get sick from handling or eating raw dough used for crafts or play clay, too.”

Cookie dough batter contains raw flour and uncooked eggs, both of which have been associated with E. coli and salmonella. When you consume these ingredients in their raw form there’s an increased risk of getting sick and contracting a disease.

Despite all the evidence that suggests that eating raw cookie dough is dangerous, it’s really hard to resist the temptation. America is obsessed with cookie dough-flavored things, with the “flavor” having a prominent spot in ice creams, boxed sweets, and more.

Despite the CDC’s many warnings, an article from The Washington Post claims that not all health experts agree on the dangers of raw cookie dough. Brian Zikmund-Fisher, a professor of health behavior and education from the University of Michigan, claims that contracting E. coli from raw flour is rare, and that there’s only real danger or exposing yourself to salmonella if the eggs in the mixture aren’t pasteurized.

“Because of this concern, when my kids and I make cookie dough, we never use regular eggs. Instead, we use eggs that have been pasteurized to kill any harmful bacteria without actually cooking the egg itself,” he explains.

Who knows what is contaminated or not nowadays. If you really can’t live without raw cookie dough then maybe vomiting and a few days of bed rest are worth it.

Marvel Fans Beg NASA ‘Please Rescue Tony Stark’ After ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Trailer

The first trailer for Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame released last Friday. It broke a 24-hour viewing record with 289 million views across YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter. The previous record holder? Marvel’s Infinity War, though Endgame only broke Infinity War’s record by 60 million views.

This has been a buildup a decade in the making, so you could say fans were anticipating the trailer’s release, in other words. Internet sleuths and detectives alike have broken down every possible Easter egg and plot detail possible to find. The trailer’s opening, however, has pushed fans to question none other than NASA for not doing more to help…Tony Stark.

“If you find this recording, don’t feel bad about this. Part of the journey is the end,” we hear Stark say, as he records a message for his love, Pepper Potts. “Being adrift in space with zero promise of rescue is more fun than it sounds.”

The image of a hapless and helpless Tony Stark didn’t sit well with fans, so they began reaching out to anyone they could find to help, including NASA.

https://twitter.com/yeheypizza/status/1071717922173681664

Not for nothing, NASA paid attention. They heard Mr. Stark’s emergency call for help and had some simple advice for how Marvel could save your boy.

Don’t worry, though. We’re totally sure Marvel’s biggest superhero will have an ignoble ending in the biggest movie event by slowly fading away to nothing on screen. Surely no one will appear to save him when he least expects it. Right?

Elon Musk Finally Admits ‘I Have No Idea How To Smoke Pot’

In the ongoing saga of the marijuana puff that broke the internet, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has now mounted an insurmountable defense to would-be detractors of his ability to steward his companies: “I have no idea how to smoke pot.”

Convincing, indeed.

Possibly this will sway the worrywarts over at NASA, who has launched a safety probe into SpaceX, Musk’s private space company, to evaluate the “workplace safety” and its “adherence to a drug-free environment.” The “months-long assessment” from the notoriously conservative NASA stems from SpaceX’s responsibility as one of two private companies tasked with transporting NASA astronauts through the cosmos.

Musk, and Tesla, have come under intensive scrutiny following various controversies over the past several months, weed jokes chief among critics’ concerns. In a blatant attempt to garner positive PR points, Musk submitted to a 60 Minutes interview over the weekend, where he assuaged online attackers and apologized for “the most… painful year of my career.”

Unsurprisingly, smoking marijuana on Joe Rogan’s podcast came up during his conversation with Lesley Stahl. Musk asserted smoking marijuana was mostly a joke and something he never really did.

“I do not smoke pot, as anyone who watched that podcast could tell, I have no idea how to smoke pot,” Musk said on the program. “Or anything. I don’t know to smoke anything, honestly.”

This is literally no shock whatsoever who anyone who both a) smokes marijuana and b) watched footage of Musk smoking marijuana. As I wrote last month, “He didn’t even seem that good at it!” On the podcast, Musk even admitted, “I’m not a regular smoker of weed.” Again, this was not surprising. But I guess for those sacred few who need reassurance from the man himself, now you know. Elon Musk blows at smoking pot.

Why William Barr, Trump’s AG Pick, Won’t Be A Friend To Marijuana

With cannabis crusader Jeff Sessions tossed out of Washington, Donald Trump will nominate William Barr as his next U.S Attorney General. Those concerned with he progressive nature of marijuana reform in the United States won’t consider it the best course of action. Concerns abound from the cannabis community that if Barr, a well-documented drug warrior, is confirmed he could swoop in and make things worse for the industry than Sessions ever did.

It’s a situation where the cannabis community hopes whoever is eventually selected as the next leading law enforcement officer in the nation understands that statewide marijuana legalization efforts should be respected and not become drug war targets.

Barr, who served as attorney general back in the days of the George H.W. Bush administration, might not be the kind of attorney general who takes this hands-off approach. Known for engineering federal policies that escalated the drug war back in the early 1990s, as well as mass incarceration efforts, he once argued “there is no better way to reduce crime than to identify, target, and incapacitate those hardened criminals who commit staggering numbers of violent crimes whenever they are on the streets.”

In fact, he once called for the construction of more prisons across the United States to lock up drug offenders—most of whom, at the time, were coming into the criminal justice system for marijuana-related crimes.

Not much has changed.

Barr remains a big supporter of policies that go against the grain of where the country is headed concerning drug-related issues. In a recent op-ed for the Washington Post, he and two other former attorney generals came out in support of Jeff Sessions and his approach to running the Department of Justice. They praised him for his tough approach on crime, especially his move to impose harsher sentences for drug dealers. The piece credits Sessions’ policies for the reduction in “the rates of murder, violent crime generally, opioid prescription fraud and drug overdose deaths.”

Of course, this mindset worries the cannabis industry because until the federal government changes its policies on cannabis nationwide, all of the people running operations in states where marijuana is legal could still be prosecuted for drug crimes—the same as black market dope slingers.

“With every move by the Department of Justice facing intense public scrutiny, maintaining Jeff Sessions’ policy of reefer madness would be self-defeating,” NORML Political Director Justin Strekal said in a statement. “The movement to end the failed and cruel policy of marijuana criminalization is larger and stronger than ever, supported by a majority of Democrats, Republicans, and non-partisans.

“In 2018, five states legalized either the medicinal or adult-use of marijuana, making the total number of states out of compliance with the Controlled Substances Act now 47,” Strekal added. “It would be utterly absurd for William Barr or any agent of the Department of Justice to take any action against these state-sanctioned and operational programs.”

In addition to his pro-drug war politics, Barr is also a huge supporter of the Patriot Act, which has subjected more Americans to an invasion of privacy, and the civil asset forfeiture, a program that allows police to seize money and personal property based on only a suspicion of drug-related crime.

It’s worth noting Trump’s motivations for appointing Barr in the position of attorney general. In all likelihood, marijuana is likely the last issue he wants Barr to tackle. This appears to be more about stroking Trump’s ego and perhaps, more importantly, protecting him from the Russia probe. Still, cannabis advocates are calling for Congress to clarify Barr’s intentions concerning state marijuana laws.

“Over half of the members of the Senate Judiciary Committee represent states that have or are in the process of enacting a legal marijuana marketplace,” Strekal said. “It is our intention that Mr. Barr be put on the record regarding his current position on cannabis given his record as a proponent of the failed War on Drugs.”

5 Secrets From Disneyland’s Holiday Decorator

Trimming your Christmas tree and hanging wreaths on doors can be super tiring, right? It’s not easy trying to hang ornaments with one hand while sipping a candy cane martini with the other. And lighting 100 pine scented tea lights is basically CrossFit. But the next time you find yourself patting yourself on the back for changing your iPhone’s background to one of those burning yule logs, think of Cathy Carson.

Carson is a holiday decorator for Disneyland. (You may have heard of it. It’s slightly larger than your home.) POPSUGAR interviewed her to find out what it takes to be a theme park decker of halls. And it sounds exhausting.

Here are 5 secrets we bet you didn’t know.

It’s been over a decade since the last Christmas tree got swapped

Main Street has had the same Christmas tree since 2007. Says Carson: “The branches are molded differently, so it looks more natural, and there are fewer branches, fewer ornaments. So there are about 1,500 ornaments and 3,500 lights.”

https://www.instagram.com/p/BqXjye1B4UL/

The tree is…large

It’s 60 feet. “It’s actually the same base as the old, but we just had brand-new branches manufactured,” says Carson.

The biggest challenge in decorating for Christmas? Getting it up overnight

We are just very well organized,” says Carson, “like when we go to Main Street, everyone breaks into their own little team and everybody has a job, and we get that job done, and at the end of the night it’s done. We just work one land at a time. We do New Orleans, then we move on to Frontierland, Toontown, etc. We are very methodical.”

The decorating staff is small

There are only 10 full-time people in the department.

It’s almost time to start planning Christmas 2019

According to Carson, planning for next year’s holiday decor starts as soon as they take down 2018’s decorations. “As soon as Christmas is over, we’ll take down in January. We will clean up the warehouse a little bit, put things away, and in February, we start planning for next year.”

6 Gifts Every Cannabis Queen Wants For Weedmas

For those who celebrate a winter holiday and want to give gifts to the cannabis queens in their life, the options are more creative than ever. This may not be the first cannabis winter holiday season in veteran recreationally legal states, but in California and Massachusetts, it’s the inaugural Winter of Weed. Even if you’re not in a legal state, you don’t have to give flower to give the gift of green.

We pulled together six of the coolest gifts you can give to a cannabis Queen besides actual cannabis:

Rich Hair Care by Rick Ross

Photos by Danielle Guercio

Infused with cannabis, champagne, and caviar, this line is no joke. It smells like that comforting barbershop scent that we all grew up with, but with a slightly more modern and complex twist. Great for travel as a 2-in-1 that doesn’t actually dry your hair out — the Luxury Hair & Body Wash only costs 12.99 — but you’ll still want their conditioner after for the softest result. Getting the canna-boss in your circle something like this is a great move.

The Gold Q Hemp Infused Hand Cream

Photos by Danielle Guercio

You may not think you need a hemp hand cream, but just look at how popular The Body Shop’s version has been for over 20 years. This vegan offering has aloe, coconut oil, hemp, linalool, limonene, for a very natural citrus aroma and super soft hands.

Legion of Bloom Zana Roll Ons

Photos by Danielle Guercio

Legion of Bloom makes special products that go beyond the current norms of cannabis. Their Zana roll-ons incorporate the principles of Ayurvedic health remedies with the tech of CBD isolate through a collaboration with Paavani Ayurveda. The pain roll on is small but mighty— 65 mg of CBD may not seem like a lot until you realize it’s concentrated into just over one-third oz of product. The various essential oils contribute to the pain relieving effects, which are quite effective for PMS and sore muscles.

Grenco G Pen Nova

At just $31.50 for a pen that vaporizes both concentrates and flower, this little doodad is a hit. It’s designed to make the whole process of dabbing your own loose concentrates much easier, with a little pick inside the soft mouthpiece to help you scoop some oil or budder into the chamber. For flower, I prefer bigger vapes, but if you were using something super potent and finely ground this would be suitable. When you vape concentrates with this pen it’s much closer to doing a dab than a disposable cartridge.

Stash Bag

Photos by Danielle Guercio

Getting your stuff into a smell-proof bag is always a good look, even in legal states, but the stash bag brings its own style to the mix. This simple shape and bold on trend color gives you all of the fanny pack vibes without the fanny pack part— just a secure bag for your goods with fun colors and a reliable design.

Wilde Kush

Get your kush literally on when you mist this magic onto your skin. It smells like a limonene rich strain with some undertones of incense, giving you spot on stoner scents tuned to the highest vibration. It’s not an “obvious” cannabis smell, but it’s definitely there and makes you think hard about it, which is the best kind of fragrance. Grab a travel sized bottle for just $9.00 for a great mini gift.

When you love someone who is an avid cannabis fan, it may be hard to pick a consumable that fits their taste, but a cannabis accessory is a perfect in. From stash bags to stylish vapes, give a holiday gift that’s more about longevity and lasts way longer than a nugget or infused chocolate bar.

Study: Marijuana Doesn’t Cause Bad Behavior In Teens

As more states both legalize and consider legalizing medical or adult use cannabis, the stigma of pot smoking or becoming a burnout for having used weed is falling away fast. Mostly because it was never the truth. Some of the most accomplished people have been avid cannabis users and pot smokers (vapers, edible eaters, etc.) are often some of the nicest people you’d ever want to meet, no matter their age.

A study published in November of this year in Addiction, put out by the Society for the Study of Addiction, examined whether cannabis use in youth caused, “unhealthy outcomes, such as conduct problems (CP) (e.g. school truancy, stealing).” Though it touched on many factors, including the additional stimulation of peer usage, the overarching answer is no, CP don’t spike with marijuana consumption.

There’s always going to be jerks around, but weed smokers aren’t overwhelmingly going to be in that particular demographic. The reputation of many tokers within the cannabis community itself is that of being laid back, creative, thoughtful, empathetic, on point and interested in social justice causes. Of course, there’s no cookie cutter pot smoker. Cannabis users come in all types of temperaments, ages, economic statuses and other differentiating traits.

The only problems with conduct from a very open minded vantage of cannabis users may be that of breaking molds and sometimes laws, but inwardly, where it counts, weed smoking is a harmless, victimless act that’s still enforced as a crime in parts of the U.S. And to be technical, it’s federally illegal across the nation.

Even though the recent study was built to find flaws in cannabis use, the start of its conclusion reads, “The present findings showed that, consistent with…previous studies, CP predicted cannabis use but not vice versa, particularly during mid–late adolescence.”

In other words, if the youth was going to turn out to be snotty, steal, lie, cheat and otherwise deviate from “good” conduct, they would have already displayed those traits before ever picking up cannabis. Cannabis is not the cause for adolescents acting out. Not having a proactive conversation with your young adult about marijuana could lead to a snit, but as long as minds remain open, even if you’d rather they didn’t, at least cannabis isn’t going to be the reason your kid has CP.

4 Foods That Can Increase Your Cannabis High

When it comes to getting higher, America is right at the front lines pushing for the most potent cannabis and charged treats. Since we’re still not quite on the other side of prohibition, research is suffering from an embargo as old as a millennials’ grandparents, but people have been pushing the cannabis high envelope all the same.

You too can hack your cannabis high with certain foods and drinks with a simple trip to the grocery store. Sure, the science is way behind, but if there was a Neil DeGRASSe Tyson doing a Weed Talk podcast, all of these mysterious connections could be spelled out, and we would see an aisle full of fine-tuned, high-friendly foods already at our fingertips.

Even though the human endocannabinoid system is only just being truly researched, we still know some ways to get extra high, and though these tips aren’t 100-percent proven, they’re backed up with some preliminary info.

Terpenes are volatile scent molecules that give us the complex notes found in cannabis and hundreds of other plants. They’re about to become crucial factors, when paired with weed, they can kickstart your ki-ki and take you to the couch, the gym or even into a peaceful slumber.

Curry

Eating a curry, particularly a rich, coconut milk Thai curry, is one of the most synergistic things you can eat before smoking. The dish is heavy on herbs, spice and good fats sending your terpene stock so high that your brains have no choice but to follow. Estragole, found in basil and mint, mingle with myrcene from lemongrass and limonene from lime. This combination of chemicals means you get more mileage out of the cannabis you consume. But beware: An edible wolfed before this creamy delight feels can sometimes twice as strong.

Mangos

Mango is the first thing you find when looking up foods that increase a cannabis high, but it’s not as simple as eating before toking. The terpene myrcene is not only present in both weed and mangoes, its percentage determines whether or not a strain is an Indica or Sativa. Myrcene has a lengthy list of health benefits, and when combined with cannabis it facilitates an extra baked feeling that helps relieve more pain and induce additional euphoria.

I’ve found that mangos work best when consumed raw, allowing the juices to absorb into your saliva glands, as your stomach can neutralize too much to make a difference. Remember that these are volatile organic compounds.

Beer

Grabbing a beer is one of the most tried and true ways to get an extra cannabis high. Not only does the alcohol magnify the effects of THC sometimes threefold, beer in particular is absolutely loaded with terpenes from their main ingredient, hops. They even look like weed, y’all. Even one beer can make you feel higher, and a craft quality IPA, where hops are the dominant flavor, are loaded with the limonene and pinene that can make you less anxious and inhibited, probably why beer and weed have been party fuel for ages.

Coffee

Weedballin’, or combining cannabis and caffeine, is the performance drug combo of countless people. The more research done into the control and care of anxiety and attention disorders suggest that there may be a vital role for cannabis to play. In the meantime, my favorite high enhancer is a big cup of strong coffee, which has terpene cafestol’s potent aroma right up against the sweet familiar smell of fresh bud. This combo may not make you higher, but you might get the best work of your life done on it.

Foods that are strong in flavor and scent are driven by the same chemicals that make weed do its thing. Cannabinoids are devoid of all scent, terpenes are responsible for many of the qualities we chalk up to THC. Terpenes are nature’s communicators and are responsible for the red in tomatoes and the sharp green tang of a pine tree.

There’s over 100 terpenes present in the cannabis plant alone, so try different foods for yourself and pay attention to how they effect your high.
