NASA, Still Worried About Elon Musk Smoking Weed, Launches Safety Probe Into SpaceX

It seemed like forever ago that everyone was watching Tesla CEO Elon Musk puff some marijuana on the internet. Memes and thinkpieces followed accordingly, and we all moved on. But chief officials at NASA never did. According to the Washington Post, NASA will conduct a safety review of Boeing and SpaceX, “a months-long assessment” to evaluate the “culture” at the two private companies tasked with transporting the agency’s astronauts.

To recap: Musk filmed a podcast with Joe Rogan. In the video, the pair sip whiskey and appear to smoke a joint. At the time, Musk was under investigation from the Securities & Exchange Commission, due to stock-related weed puns the Tesla CEO had made on Twitter.

But reports followed the U.S. Air Force had launched an investigation into Musk’s “drug habits.” A USAF spokesperson then dismissed those reports, telling The Verge, “It’s inaccurate that there is an investigation. We’ll need time to determine the facts and the appropriate process to handle the situation”

But it was “some at NASA’s highest levels” that Musk had “rankled” with his weed session, according to the Post. The space exploration agency will conduct hundreds of interviews across several months, in an effort to examine “everything and anything that could impact safety,” said William Gerstenmaier, NASA’s associate administrator for human exploration.

Gerstenmaier described the probe as “pretty invasive.” Reports have also narrowed on NASA’s focus on maintaining a drug-free workplace. Space X emphasized, in a statement to the Post, the company “actively promotes workplace safety, and we are confident that our comprehensive drug-free workforce and workplace programs exceed all applicable contractual requirements.”

Back in 2014, NASA announced it would transports its astronauts to the Internal Space Station using Boeing and SpaceX aircraft. Neither company has accomplished space travel with U.S. astronauts yet, though Space X has completed several unmanned supply missions to the ISS since 2012. NASA announced last month that Space X and Boeing now had expected launch dates in June and August of next year, respectively.

Now, it still seems incredibly ludicrous this many people are talking about Elon Musk smoking some weed on the internet. He didn’t even seem that good at it! He literally said, “I’m not a regular smoker of weed,” and everyone could tell. But apparently a government agency will spends millions to satisfy their own concerns about reefer madness. Tell me if you heard that one before.

Food Coma: 3 Things That Happen To Your Body When You Eat Too Much

0

As we brace ourselves for the inevitable food coma that accompanies holiday over indulgence, it’s interesting to know exactly what happens to our bodies when we slip into a post-meal nap. Also known as postprandial somnolence, digestion overload can knock you off your feet and head first onto a pillow. Here are 3 things to know when you meet face-to-face with a food coma…zzzzzzzzzzz.

Like A Bear That’s Been Shot With A Dart

A large amount of fat and carbs (mashed potatoes, bread, cake) will cause a spike in insulin, which utilizes glucose after a meal. Insulin not only causes fatigue, but it delivers tryptophan to your brain. Tryptophan, in turn, is converted into serotonin, a neurotransmitter associated with drowsiness, especially in kids. Double trouble!

via GIPHY

Seriously, Nap Time Now

As food moves through your python-like body (is that an antelope or fruitcake you just swallowed?), your stomach releases gastrin, a regulator of gastric acid secretion. As more blood is diverted to help with digestion, it leaves less blood for other bodily functions, leaving some people feeling sleepy. The larger the meal, the sleepier you may feel.

via GIPHY

Gym? All The Nopes. Walk Around The Block. Maybe.

Pro tip: if you eat too much, try to keep moving. You’ll have a better chance of warding off bloating and a forced disco nap. Plus, you don’t want to miss out on pie, do you?

How To Make Homemade Canna-Cocoa Butter

0

Nope: cocoa butter isn’t just for sunbathing. This vegetable-based fat can be an invaluable addition to baked goods, imparting a unique flavor and tender texture to cookies and cakes. And like many other fats, it can be infused with weed to make your finished goodies positively intoxicating. Here is how to make homemade canna-cocoa butter.

When used in baking to substitute for part of the butter called for in a recipe, it offers a subtle cocoa scent which boosts overall flavor, adding a complexity beyond just “weed-flavored”.

What is cocoa butter?

Before we get cooking, it may be helpful to explain what cocoa butter is and is not. Cocoa butter is a fat which is extracted from the cocoa bean. It has a pale, whitish-yellow color, and is solid at room temperature, but has a low melting point–just below human body temperature.

Cocoa butter is re-combined with cocoa liquor to make chocolate confections like bars and truffles, and it’s what is responsible for giving chocolate its melt-in-your-mouth quality.

How to use canna-cocoa butter in baking

Canna-cocoa butter and regular cocoa butter aren’t necessarily suitable for swapping in a 1:1 ratio with the butter called for in a recipe. Personally I’ve only ever substituted cocoa butter for up to ¼ cup of the butter or oil in a recipe. For instance, if I had a shortbread cookie recipe which called for 1 cup (2 sticks) of unsalted butter, I might substitute ¼ cup of this canna-cocoa butter and ¾ cup butter.

However, even a little cocoa butter can make a big difference in baked goods, imparting that unique cocoa-scented flavor and aroma and offering a tenderness to the texture of the finished goodies.

Canna-Cocoa Butter

Ingredients:

  • ¼ ounce marijuana
  • 4 ounces cocoa butter (in solid form)

Supplies:

  • Double boiler
  • Baking sheet

1. Decarboxylation time! (this is the same process you’d follow if making regular cannabutter, btw). Scatter the marijuana on a lined, rimmed baking sheet; toast at 240 degrees F for 30-40 minutes, turning a few times throughout the baking. Remove from the oven, and let cool completely. Finely grind the cannabis, using a spice grinder or mortar and pestle before proceeding.

2. Set up your double boiler with water in the bottom. Place the cocoa butter in the top of a double boiler. Once melted, add the marijuana.

3. Cook over low heat for 3-4 hours, stirring every 20 minutes or so. You’ll know that it’s done when the oil has become thick and turned a slightly greenish texture. Keep monitoring the water level: if it gets too low, be sure to replenish it.

4. Strain the mixture through a mesh strainer or cheesecloth, and into a heatproof container. It will solidify as it cools. Re-melt before using in baking. Store at room temperature in an airtight container.

In Honor Of Thanksgiving: 15 Ways To Show Gratitude To Your Partner

No, but really — how does a person have better sex or a better relationship? The Fresh Toast has enlisted Rachel Krantz, a sex writer and proud canna-enthusiast, to help readers out with some answers as its sex columnist. No question is off limits, and all questions will remain anonymous. Please send your super-hot sex and relationship inquiries to freshlove@thefreshtoast.com. Now, onto this week’s topic: ways to show your gratitude to your partner, in honor of Thanksgiving.

Q: So, I have a great boyfriend. Seriously, he deals with all my sh*t, cooks, and even helps me handle my mother. I think I’m a pretty good girlfriend, but I know I could tell him I care more often. I’m wondering — do you have any sexier or romantic suggestions for showing your gratitude to a partner?

A: Happy Thanksgiving! (To those of you who don’t boycott the holiday for some very legitimate reasons.) I thought that given the holiday’s theme of giving thanks, now would be the perfect time to answer this question. Here are my tips for showing more gratitude to your lover.

1. Tell Them The Next Time You Think To Yourself ‘They’re So Cute’

You know how sometimes you just look over, and think, wow? Tell them the next time you think that! Even if it’s the silliest little thing, like how they rest their hand on their chin, or how they say a certain word, it will make them feel loved.

2. Next Time You’re Naked, Point Out A Body Part That Doesn’t Get Enough Love

Men especially don’t tend to get enough body praise, unless they’re ripped or something. So the next time you’re naked, compliment his earlobes, or his chest hair, or his toes. Whatever it is he doesn’t hear is cute often enough — or that you might even know he’s insecure about — vocalize your love for it.

3. Get Flowers Or Another Surprise For No Reason At All

https://giphy.com/gifs/flowers-Vd5HK9o8hsoZG

I love getting my partner flowers or a present for no reason at all. Surprises work every time — and the more random, the more romantic they are.

4. When They’ve Had A Hard Day, Tell Them Why You Admire Them

Tell them anytime, really — but especially when you know they had a hard day, for whatever reason.

5. Vocalize Your Gratitude In Bed & Out

https://giphy.com/gifs/couple-teen-romantic-Lv52Z37SLX6SY

It sounds obvious, but people assume all too often that their partners “know” we appreciate their cooking, or doing laundry, or always going down on us. Well, they might know, but you should say it. Vocalizing appreciation and gratitude goes a really long way. (As does being sure to return the favor.)

6. Take Something Off Their Plate

Maybe they usually do a certain chore or have an errand to run — surprise them by doing it for them. When they ask what inspired you, tell them, “I was just thinking about how grateful I am to be with you, and I wanted you to know it.”

7. Pack Them A Pipe

https://giphy.com/gifs/joint-11K1FOfHDxLwLC

If you’re both fans of cannabis, break out the weed for them the next time you know they are feeling stressed or bored. Especially if they are the ones who usually suggest getting lit, they will appreciate it.

8. Offer To Listen On Speakerphone To A Hard Conversation

Sometimes, when I’m really dreading a conversation with my mom, I’ll ask my partner to listen, just to feel like I have a witness to the crazy that’s going down and that I’m not alone. Suggest the same next time they have to have a similarly hard chat — even if it’s just being on hold with the cable company, they will appreciate the moral support.

9. Pick Up A Snack That They Will Know Is Just For Them

https://giphy.com/gifs/thenightlyshow-89sIi77nGsdnq

If they have a favorite snack, pick it up next time you’re out grocery shopping, even and especially if you won’t eat it yourself. They will appreciate the gesture.

10. Replace An Item You Know They Wouldn’t Get For Themselves

New socks and underwear are vastly underrated — and dudes especially wear them down. Get them high-quality replacements out of nowhere, and they will feel loved and fresh every time they slip them on.

11. Ask For A Sex Session Focusing Only On Them

https://giphy.com/gifs/season-4-the-simpsons-4×13-xT5LMU3mPNgoD9rjEI

Next time you’re in the mood and getting down, say, “I’d really like to get to know your body more tonight. I was thinking we could just focus on you and your pleasure?” Ask a bunch of questions along the way, and spend time pleasuring them, doing some A/B testing of what kinds of strokes or licks they like better. You can also ask if there are any fantasies they have been having lately you can help bring to life, or what else would make them feel more loved and sexy. Make it all about them — and if it’s not their MO to receive, respect that, but try to push them to relax and enjoy the ride. Say something like, “This is selfish of me, I just want to worship you for a bit because I’ve been feeling so into you. Can you just lay back and let me pleasure you for awhile? It’s really getting me off.”

12. Leave A Note

Slip a note of love and gratitude into their lunch, on the fridge, in their car, in the mailbox, or even in their email inbox. It can be simple: just the thought will mean volumes. If you don’t know where to start, just make a list of the littlest things you love about them, and see if you don’t run out of space!

13. Defend Them When You Might Be Tempted To Tease

https://giphy.com/gifs/percolategalactic-kim-kardashian-26uf7x6BpCjHrJBnO

When you’re around your partner’s friends and family and they are lovingly giving them grief, it can be tempting to join in — and sometimes, that’s fine. But next time, see if you can’t play devil’s advocate and actually defend them on their behalf. They will appreciate it, even if it’s something silly, like saying, “No, he’s actually really good at cleaning up after himself though!”

14. Donate To A Cause They Care About In Their Name

We all mean to give to charity, but we might not get to every organization we want. The next time your partner is going on a political rant, show you were listening by making a small donation in their name to an organization that supports that view the very next day.

15. Pay Attention To Your Good-Nights And Good-Mornings

https://giphy.com/gifs/morning-good-cinemagraph-IMSWQQvSEAjq8

It sounds cheesy, but I really think it’s important to say goodnight and good morning to your partner with love and gratitude. You can do that with a hug, a kiss, an I love you — any way you most authentically can show your appreciation for their presence in your life, and the fact you don’t take them for granted. It’s the little things that create the culture of the relationship, people. (I also recommend a passionate kiss when they walk in the door, like you’ve been waiting for them all day.) These things go a long way.

Green Wednesday Is The New Black Friday of Cannabis

As more traditional retailers gear up for door-crashing sales days like Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the cannabis community is gearing up for another day: Green Wednesday.

Green Wednesday, or “Weed Wednesday” happens the Wednesday before Thanksgiving; it’s a day for everyone to stock up on their cannabis products of choice before entering into the fun, family-filled holiday season.

A Celebrated Day for Sales in Cannabis

For some companies like the delivery service Eaze, Green Wednesday is the second-largest sales day after 4/20, which isn’t something that other industry players should ignore. In 2017, the delivery platform saw a 98% increase in deliveries over any regular Wednesday of the year. For the new cannabis holiday, Eaze will be offering a major site-wide discount with 40% off products in every category.

Caliva, a San Jose based retailer saw sales for both Weed Wednesday and Black Friday double over regular sales days. Caliva prepares for the holiday season by ensuring inventory is high to serve the needs of those stocking up for the holiday weekend. “Were well stocked for the holidays because we know people count on our products to help them keep their stress levels low, to inspire good dinnertime conversation, to stimulate their appetites, to remedy their hangovers, to get a good laugh out of grandma and to kick back and relax while they have some time off,” said Rosie Rothrock, VP of Marketing at Caliva.

Making New Family Traditions

Some cannabis brands are using the holidays to engage new consumers, especially Baby Boomers. California Dreamin’, a brand offering a low-dose cannabis soda is launching Parents Appreciation Week. Between November 18 and 25, customers who bring a parent into a California dispensary and buy 2 bottles of the cannabis soda will get the third bottle for a penny, and a code for a free “I got my [Mom/Dad/Parents] high” t-shirt.

“Baby Boomers are the fastest growing segment of the cannabis market, but there is apprehension when buying cannabis products,” said Jonathan Bishop, VP of Marketing at California Dreamin’, “We wanted to create an event that takes away the stigma of purchasing marijuana for older adults.”

The holiday week is perfect for families to discuss cannabis as more evidence emerges about the medical and therapeutic benefits of cannabis, especially later in life.

Creative Offerings

Dispensaries are making sure they offer products that offer discretion and convenience as people embrace moments to “step out” during holiday events. Items like Caliva’s Toasties are a huge seller as they offer discretion looking no different than a cannabis cigarette. Retailers offer up seasonal teas and drinks, in-store demos with different brands like Dosist, product specials, and holiday games to keep the fun around the holiday table.

With California legalizing this year, all brands are expecting a strong upswing in sales on Weed Wednesday and the subsequent days of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Eaze reports that deliveries went up 23% on Cyber Monday as opposed to other Mondays, and they expect their largest increase yet with California’s legalization.

We can expect soon that Canada will follow suit, with Black Friday and Cyber Monday catching on up North, where nationwide legalization will be sure to create a new niche market for “Weed Wednesday” as the markets level out and are able to engage customers with creative sales.

Cheap Marijuana: Good For You, Bad For States

Marijuana might struggle to become the next great American cash crop as long as this sector continues to operate exclusively on a statewide basis. Marijuana prices in legal states like Colorado have been dropping at a significant rate ever since the herb was legalized for recreational use six years ago. Although the concept of cheap weed is excellent for the cannabis consumer, it ultimately puts the industry that serves them to the test  – threatening to put some entrepreneurs out of business and crippling state tax revenue that is mostly based on retail prices.

A recent analysis from the Washington Post shows that wholesale weed prices in legal states have been on steady decline. In Colorado, the price has dropped 70 percent in the past four years. In some cases, marijuana is being sold for as little as $100 per pound. It has created a situation where states reporting enormous tax revenue collections since legalization took hold are bound to start coming up light. “Because states generally set their marijuana tax rates as a percentage of price, their revenue per sale sinks in direct proportion to the fall in marijuana prices,” the report reads.

Colorado attempted to combat the downward trend. Last year, the state increased its marijuana tax rates from 10 to 15 percent. But the plan did not work out in its favor. The additional revenue generated from the hike was eventually absorbed by the price slump experienced over the past 12 months. It’s a problem that everyone involved with the legalization process failed to consider. And if they did — and by “they” we mean the cannabis advocacy groups pushing for this level of reform — they kept their mouths shut. “States may have failed to anticipate this problem because of misleading predictions about the effects of legalization,” the report states.

Marijuana is really only fetching high tax revenues in the beginning because it is a novelty product. The idea that weed was against the law yesterday but now I can buy it in the same way as I do beer really brings out the crowd. Yet, financial experts have said for years that ending prohibition is the quickest way to watch marijuana prices drop by 50 percent. Some economists expect legalization will eventually drag the price of marijuana down so low that it will be given away for free.

“It’s just a plant,” Jonathan Caulkins, a professor at Carnegie Mellon University, told the Post back in 2016. “There will always be the marijuana equivalent of organically grown specialty crops sold at premium prices to yuppies, but at the same time, no-frills generic forms could become cheap enough to give away as a loss leader – the way bars give patrons beer nuts and hotels leave chocolates on your pillow.”

If something like that were to happen, states could easily find themselves in a position of not being able to support the regulatory affairs needed to maintain a legal system. “Rather than helping states’ bottom line the industry would be an outright drain on the public purse,” the report reads.

Some states like California and Maine have taken a different approach to tax marijuana – they tax by weight. The Post suggests that this method might be the only way for states to hold on to some of the revenue earned from their respective pot trades. But there could be some repercussions by going at it from this angle. “The main risk of this approach is that producers will sharply increase product potency to create more “bang per ounce,” which could pose a risk to public health and safety.

Cardi B: ‘I’ve been very depressed because I cannot stop losing weight’

On Thursday, Cardi once again spilled many truths about herself and addressed her fans in an Instagram Live video. “I’ve been very depressed because I cannot stop losing weight,” she said. “And it’s so crazy because when I first gave birth, I did everything to lose my baby weight. I was drinking Teami [tea] so it could curb my appetite and now that I lost all the baby weight…I don’t like looking too skinny.”

She revealed that she was very skinny as a teenager, which she “hated” and she “hates it now.” She added, “It’s been really depressing me, making me sad. My weight. You know what I’m saying.”

Later in the Live, Cardi explained that she doesn’t have much of an appetite, which is “so stressful.” She said, “I want to gain weight so bad. I’m really trying to gain weight ya’ll and it’s been hard and I don’t know how.” Cardi then compared losing baby.

It’s A Scientific Fact That Men With Beards Are More Attractive

Some sympathy for those unfortunate men who can’t grow beards is in order. Because, according to a new study, men sporting full beards are considered more attractive than those with some light stubble.

In other words, there’s a reason thick-bearded celebrities like Jake Gyllenhaal, Chris Hemsworth, and Jamie Dornan elicit affection from all female demographics. As the research paper published in the Journal of Evolutionary Biology reports: “Beards consistently render men with an older, more masculine, socially dominant and aggressive appearance.

What’s more, the study finds, “Beards may be more attractive to women when considering long‐term than short‐term relationships as they indicate a male’s ability to successfully compete socially with other males for resources.”

To conduct the study, male subjects were photographed in four different beard lengths: clean shaven, five days post-shaving, 10 days post-shaving, and four weeks without shaving. Around 8,500 women were then polled, rating the men’s picture for attractiveness as a long-term romantic partner.

Heavy stubble (10 day post-shaving) was deemed most attractive, as men with full beards (4 weeks) and those with light stubble were ranked second and third, respectively. Cleanly shaven gentlemen were considered least attractive.

So next time you’re thinking of trimming that stubble from you face, maybe let it go a few more days. You just might grab more attention that way.

What To Do If You Accidentally Get Too High Before Thanksgiving Dinner

It happens to all of us: You wake up a little late on Thanksgiving Day, head downstairs to have some breakfast and talk with your family, maybe sip on a Bloody Mary or two as you watch the Macy’s parade with your cousins. Before you know it, it’s almost time to feast on Thanksgiving dinner, and you’ve got an itch to get a little high beforehand. But as you’re crouched behind your uncle’s car in the driveway taking a quick hit, you decide to take a second, and then a third, and then…holy shit are you ripped, like way too ripped to deal with family. What do you do?

Don’t Panic

This is easier said than done, but try to remember that no one knows how blazed you are, or that you’re even high at all. If you begin to think someone suspect you, convince yourself you’re just being paranoid. Everyone there has probably been drinking or at the very least is stressed to the max with so much family around. Just stay calm.

https://giphy.com/gifs/chris-farley-stoned-im-xTiTnn5pbbnxWHsYIo

Ask Basic Questions

The best way to avoid exposing yourself as being impossibly stoned is to keep your talking to a minimum. But in order to avoid talking a lot you need to first talk a little, in the form of a question. Find the most garrulous family member sitting near you and ask them about something that you know will get them talking. An easy one would be to inquire about something you know to be one of their hobbies or passions: If they like travel, ask for trip recommendations or about their most recent vacation; if they enjoy sports, ask about the Cowboys QB controversy, etc. Then, sit back and relax and they talk and talk. Just be sure to nod or say “Right” every so often to appear interested.

Concentrate On The Food

Mmmm. Turkey, mashed potatoes, peas, stuffing, cranberry sauce, delicious Sister Schubert rolls…what more could you ask for if you’re high? So do what comes naturally: focus on eating as much as you can and offering occasional compliments to the chef(s).

Take a Bathroom Break

If the above fail, excuse yourself and spend some time in the bathroom. You can justify five, six minutes in there before people get suspicious, which should—hopefully—be enough time to splash some water on your face and give yourself the pep talk you need to power through.

Hit the Hay

When dinner wraps up, you’re free to do the one thing proven to cure the ills of being way, way, way too high: taking a nap. Set your alarm for 40 minutes later, and when you awake, all should be well.
