Making Money On YouTube Just Got Easier

“Creators should have as many ways and opportunities to make money as possible.”

YouTube has announced it’s going to start adding new ways of enticing their most prolific creators to help them make more money. How? By monetizing their work via merchandising and paid memberships. Until now, the YouTube community only made money through advertising.

Neal Mohan, Chief Product Officer of YouTube, claims that even though advertising is the main source of revenue for Youtubers, they want to think beyond ads. “Creators should have as many ways and opportunities to make money as possible,” he said.

YouTube’s previous sponsorship program is being rebranded as paid memberships, giving viewers the opportunity to pay $4.99 a month so they can access member-only posts, badges and exclusive live streams. These perks are chosen by those creating the videos, who can market shoutouts, special emojis, and whatever they think might entice their viewers. Paid memberships, which will roll out in the coming months,  will be available for creators that have over 100,000 subscribers.

The company has also partnered with Teespring, an e-commerce platform, that’ll give creators with over 10,000 subscribers  the opportunity to sell their own merchandise, including t-shirts, phone cases, mugs and much more. While YouTube won’t take a cut from merchandise revenue, Teespring will charge a flat fee per product.

The last feature YouTube announced is called “premieres,” and it lets video creators hype up their content and schedule it for the future. According to Mashable, scheduling a premiere will allow YouTubers to have a landing page which viewers can see ahead of time. These viewers can join in and watch the video the moment it pops up and leave comments while watching.

While YouTube has had tons of problems in the past regarding their policies or lack thereof, these new features are great news for the most prolific video creators, giving them reasons to stick around, even though Instagram and Facebook are becoming stronger homes for them.

FDA Approves Cannabis-Based Drug For The First Time Ever

In a major milestone for medical marijuana, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Monday approved a cannabis-based drug, making it the first marijuana substance meeting the federal agencies stringent guidelines.

The drug, Epidiolex, was developed by GW Pharmaceuticals, a publicly traded British cannabis company. The strawberry-flavored syrup is a purified form of cannabidiol (CBD), a non-psychoactive component in cannabis. The approval is expected to spur additional research into cannabis, which is still illegal under federal law.

The FDA’s ruling clears the way for the drug to be used in patients aged 2 years and older suffering from Dravet Syndrome and Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome, two rare childhood-onset forms of epilepsy that are among the most resistant to treatment.

“The difficult-to-control seizures that patients with Dravet syndrome and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome experience have a profound impact on these patients’ quality of life,” said the FDA’s Dr. Billy Dunn. “In addition to another important treatment option for Lennox-Gastaut patients, this first-ever approval of a drug specifically for Dravet patients will provide a significant and needed improvement in the therapeutic approach to caring for people with this condition.”

The approval only covers use of the liquid drug for Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and Dravet syndrome. FDA advisers recommended the approval in April.

Dravet syndrome is a rare genetic condition that appears during the first year of life with frequent fever-related seizures. Children with Dravet syndrome typically experience poor development of language and motor skills, hyperactivity and difficulty relating to others.

Lennox-Gastaut syndrome begins in childhood. It is characterized by multiple types of seizures. People with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome begin having frequent seizures in early childhood, usually between ages 3 and 5. Most people with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome require help with usual activities of daily living.

Under the Controlled Substances Act, CBD is currently a Schedule I substance because it is a chemical component of the cannabis plant.

Japanese Lawmakers Discover Marijuana Growing Outside Their Offices

0

Four cannabis plants were discovered on the office building grounds of Japan’s Upper House lawmakers.

In a country with the world’s most draconian cannabis laws, and where adults who have experimented with cannabis surpassed those who abuse paint thinner for the first time, you wouldn’t expect marijuana plants growing unnoticed anywhere in Japan. So just picture the reaction when a crop of marijuana was found growing in Nagatacho, the Japanese equivalent of America’s Capitol Hill.

According to the Japan Times, Tokyo Metropolitan Government Staff confirmed Thursday that the reports were true. Four cannabis plants were discovered on the office building grounds of Japan’s Upper House lawmakers. Masahiro Hirai, an official with the health and welfare bureau of the metropolitan government, corroborated the story and added that the marijuana plants have since been removed.

How did the marijuana plants arrive there? Reports indicate the plants were around one to two months old, but were they sprouting naturally or the result of sneaky mastermind with a green thumb? The Tokyo bureau isn’t ruling out any possibility, but their explanation is rather interesting.

Check it, via the Japan Times:

[The Tokyo bureau] believes “the probability is higher that the plants were just growing naturally,” the official said, adding that it’s not entirely impossible that marijuana seeds landed there after being carried by the wind or being eaten and then defecated by birds. But such cases are rather rare, especially given Japan’s stringent anti-cannabis law prohibiting the unlicensed cultivation of marijuana.

“Because of our strict license system regarding marijuana cultivation, it’s not like the seeds fly around and sprout constantly,” Hirai added.

Under Japanese law, someone caught possessing marijuana is subject to up to five years in prison. while being charged with cannabis cultivation carries a possible seven-year prison sentence. So marijuana cultivation isn’t exactly an extracurricular activity in which many Japanese participate. Officials reported only four cases of marijuana removal, a total of 44 plants, in fiscal 2017.

“At this point, we can’t completely deny that someone was deliberately trying to cultivate marijuana there, so we’re looking into that possibility, too,” Hirai said.

6 Of The Most Helpful CBD Products

Cannabis and hemp-derived cannabidiol, or CBD, is renowned for providing pain relief, suppressing seizures, relieving muscle spasms, treating ADHD, combating insomnia, and easing stress and anxiety. CBD reduces inflammation, which is one of the primary causes of disease and disorders, including arthritis and migraines. New CBD companies are flooding the market faster than we can say “the latest fad.”

With tons of new products hitting shelves, here is a handy guide to help sort the helpful ones from the hype.

Charlotte’s Web

Hemp Plus Extract oil is twice the strength of their basic hemp extract oil. Each serving of 1ml contains 28mg of hemp extract. It comes in mint chocolate, so it includes 10 fat calories per serving of 1ml. It is also mixed with fractionated coconut oil and sunflower oil. Hemp Plus is a natural addition to smoothies, coffee, foods, or taken alone. CW claims its hemp oil plus can offer support for normal, everyday stresses, help provide healthy recovery from exercise, and support a sense of calm, for focus. It is manufactured in Boulder, Colorado.

A pharmacist at Columbia Care dispensary recently confirmed to a consulting patient that Charlotte’s Web makes high-quality CBD. The secret to their high-quality products is in the top-of-the-line, precision Hightech Extracts machine, which uses a fully automated recipe-driven process that meets pharma-grade standards. Hightech Extract provides CW Hemp with consistent, predictable and repeatable extractions.

Juju Royal

Julian “Juju” Marley is the latest Marley family member to get into the marijuana market, and rightly so. If anyone deserves to cash in on the myriad uses for cannabis, it’s the members of the Marley clan. Without Juju’s father, Bob, spearheading the movement, marijuana’s healing properties might not have received global, mainstream recognition in the modern age. As Juju’s brother Stephen is often fond of saying, “Education before recreation.” Juju’s CDB “vape juice,” comes in multiple flavors that smell like Fruity Pebbles, but taste like smoking a menthol cigarette.

Juju’s 10mg sublingual tablets are made with full-spectrum CBD oil from hemp grown in Colorado’s San Luis Valley. Because they are designed to be dissolved under the tongue by the mucosal lining of the mouth, they bypass the digestive tract, for quicker absorption. Incidentally, taking medical marijuana or CBD sublingually is the healthiest route to pursue.

What’s more, the company donates 1 percent of its proceeds to the Weed for Warriors project.

Patriot Botanicals

This company was developed by West Coast mom Roxanne Benton to treat her son’s ADHD and Tourette’s Syndrome. CBD worked so well to control and reduce his symptoms that she put it on the market to help other moms and kids. Their company slogan, “Relax, it’s just hemp,” makes it clear that their CBD oil doesn’t contain any THC. It comes in mint and vanilla flavors and is legal to ship across the U.S.

Sensi Chew

The company’s Insomnia Plus contains CBD and Melatonin, a combination that’s helpful for patients who struggle with insomnia due to chronic pain. It includes a total 60mg of organic CBD cannabinoid extract, and 4mg per dose of natural melatonin, suspended in a bedtime snack-sized, chewy chocolate caramel bonbon. The cannabinoid profile is primarily CBD, with .03% THC and small amounts of CBC, CBN, CBG, THCV, and other whole plant cannabinoids and terpenoids. Unfortunately, due to its trace amounts of THC, it is temporarily available only on the West Coast.

Sensi Chew has a whole line of CBD “candy,” from chocolate ches to gummy bears. But as Dr. Anna Folckomer, a licensed acupuncturist and board-certified herbalist, pointed out, “Regarding eating sugar at night, your insulin cycle follows circadian rhythms and light exposure. We are less sensitive to insulin at night, and it’s hypothesized that timing meals with insulin sensitivity would be a game changer in the onset of diabetes. Your body knows how to use glucose for fuel during daylight hours, but due to decreased sensitivity at night, it tends to store it for later.”

Tasty

Operated by husband and wife team Jeff and Lisa Gallagher, this Michigan-based store sells hemp oil extract in spearmint and vanilla flavors. Each bottle (40 servings) contains 1,000mg of CBD and contains MCT oil, organic Sunflower Oil, stevia and other natural flavors. Put half a dropper under the tongue and hold it there for 60 to 90 seconds before swallowing. A minute and a half may seem like forever to hold liquid under the tongue. It helps to use a stopwatch, or be distracted by a task.

Vita Canna

Vita Canna from Keef Brands seems to provide the most “science” behind their dietary supplement, which is derived from the whole hemp plant without the high. Vita Canna’s Colorado Hemp Oil has a citrus flavor which contains 40 percent CBD, encapsulated into nanoparticles by the nutraceutical industry’s leading liposomal delivery system. (Did anyone else imagine Borg Seven of Nine taking this stuff to regenerate?)

Vita Canna claims their patented phospholipid encapsulation system brings the power of intravenous delivery into convenient oral ingestion, which improves upon liposomal technology with smaller, more stable, single-layer spheres made from the highest-grade ingredients available. In addition to excellent absorption rates, nanospheres have demonstrated the ability to cross the blood-brain barrier, deposit their cargo intracellularly, and enhance lymphatic circulation of nutrients. Also, the phospholipids that compose the liposome shell feed the cell membranes; this helps ensure the proper function of the absorption of nutrients and the excretion of cellular waste products and toxins.

Science has identified two primary cannabinoid receptors in the human body: CB1 and CB2. These are embedded in cell membranes and present throughout the entire body. CB1 receptors are highly expressed in the hippocampus and other parts of the Central Nervous System, multiple organs, and glands, and have been shown to possess anticonvulsant properties. CB2 receptors, while commonly reported as confined to the lymphatic system, are also now being studied for their vital role in suppression of both pain and inflammatory processes.

With so many CBD products on the market, ultimately, picking the right type of product and dosage is a personal choice. As with any CBD oil, remember to store the bottle in a cool, dry place, away from light, shake the bottle before each use, and hold the liquid or tablet under the tongue for up to a minute and a half, for best results. It is relatively difficult to impossible to overdose on CBD, so trying a few different kinds until a favorite is found, can’t hurt.

Could Video Games Be The Next Cannabis Impairment Tests For Employees?

Urine tests have long been known to show cannabis use for weeks to months, unfairly punishing an employee with a pink slip, even if they’ve never sparked up before work in their employment history. Pee tests are also intrusive and an unwarranted search of your person. It’s a booming business, but one that is intrinsically flawed, with false positives abounding and not to mention the divide that it creates between upper management, management and employee.

Cannabis is banned from professional video game tournaments (only the day of), perhaps because it is an enhancement drug, perhaps to keep the integrity of the anti-doping message, but the video games being used to test impairment in the workplace aren’t typical. There are no characters or missions, but shapes and cognitive tests that are tailored to your past results. Results that are so unique to you “sober” that the test can tell if someone else took it for you.

These types of test could save companies a lot of money and save a lot of employees who don’t get high before work, but enjoy their nightcap joints immensely, the jobs they work hard at keeping. The tests could also be potential lifesavers.

Truck drivers, construction workers, those working with heavy machinery and the like need to be alert at all times and this test seems to measure just that. In fact, a forklift operator who used one such test was found to not be concentrating at his usual level. When questioned why, the employers found that he had lost a close family member over the weekend and was yet so devastated by the news that he literally couldn’t think straight.

Naturally the person in question was sent home for a few days without penalization, but it raises some important inquiries into what constitutes impairment. Grief clearly does, as does a lack of sleep. Meaning that these tests could be good or bad news if you just had a night of tossing and turning. Too many incidents and you might lose your job for being tired, then again, if working with dangerous machinery, maybe it’s best that your tired self goes home…

Queen Elizabeth Can’t Get Out Of Meeting Donald Trump Next Month; Beyonce And Jay-Z Tell Promoters That Blue Needs Own Dressing Room

President Donald Trump plans to meet Queen Elizabeth II next month while on a working trip to the United Kingdom. The visit will take place on Friday July 13, and will be the U.S. president’s first trip to the country since winning the 2016 election, Sky News reports.

“Yes, yes, I mean he has to see the head of state,” U.S. ambassador Robert Wood Johnson told Sky News when asked whether the president would meet the queen. “Putting his foot on British soil, it’s job one, it’s very important, very symbolic.”

Plans are still being finalized, but Trump will likely meet the queen at Windsor Castle and engage in talks with Prime Minister Theresa May while he is there. Anti-Trump protests will be expected in light of the crisis enveloping the Trump administration over a ‘zero tolerance‘ immigration policy that has seen children separated from parents accused of crossing the U.S.-Mexico border illegally.

More than 2,000 children have been removed from their parents and temporarily moved to government-run facilities or foster care to worldwide condemnation.

Beyonce and Jay-Z had informed promoters of their tour that their daughter Blue Needed her own dressing room!

IT WAS TRUE …. Several reports claimed a few months back that Beyonce and Jay-Z had informed promoters of their tour that their daughter Blue Needed her own dressing room!

And she got it! Sources on the tour reveal that the dressing room is stocked with Barbies, Peppa Pig toys, a tea set with real China dolls and a playhouse that looks just like her LA home. Beyoncé’s chef also makes special meals for Blue! Wow!

New Drug Testing Strips Can Immediately Detect Marijuana

It has become easier over the past few years to be more clandestine about marijuana consumption. Ever since vaporizers emerged onto the scene, providing people with a discreet, mostly odorless alternative to smoking a joint or hitting a bowl in public, more folks, including teens, have been exploring this delivery method as a means for getting high without arousing suspicion.

Well, we’re sad to report that the good ol’ days might have come to an end. It seems that a company has developed a marijuana-testing strip with the ability to almost immediately detect whether the substance is weed or just the run-of-the-mill vape juice. It is a development that is already being embraced by schools and law enforcement.

A recent report from CBS Denver indicates that these testing strips are similar to the ones used for years in airports to confirm explosive materials. However, with marijuana rising to new heights in popularity, creating situations where people are trying to get stoned in places prohibited under law, Denver-based S2 Detection Technologies got the wise idea of retooling the strips in order to nark out people trying to keep their pot use a secret.

The strips are especially beneficial to teachers who need to determine whether the vape pens their students are hitting contain THC.

In the report, Leigh McGown, principal at Yampah Mountain High School in Glenwood Springs, says before the availability of the testing strips, she often had to put in a call to the local police. But the strips make it easier for her to determine which of the vape pens and other devices that have been confiscated “have marijuana in it,” she explained.

If the substance turns red, it is positive for pot.

But the testing strips were not redesigned simply to get teenage stoners busted. They can also be used to detect a variety of hard drugs, including opioids, amphetamines and cocaine.

But what about their accuracy?

Similar drug testing kits used for years by law enforcement agencies all across the country have been proven ineffective at turning up accurate results. A report published earlier this year by High Times shows that Colorado cops are sometimes using cheap field testing kits to bust medial marijuana users for cocaine. A 2016 investigation by the New York Times found these kits are extremely unreliable. They are inadmissable in a court of law.

Nevertheless, the creators are these new testing strips claim their product “is ground breaking technology.”

Meme Of The Week: World Cup Edition

The World Cup is a source of confusion for most Americans. While tons of people are tuned in to the biggest sporting event in the world, Americans are just puzzled, knowing that something important is going on, but just aren’t all that invested. They know that there’s a ball, and that things are going well for Ronaldo. They also know that things are looking pretty bad for Messi, and that’s about it.

While soccer fever has not caught on in America, it has caught on on the Internet, where people have been arguing about their favorite teams and obviously making memes. The World Cup is a place of infinite amusement, be that due to hilarious and memeable managers, the acting chops of some of the players, and the hard work of Ronaldo. Check out some of the best memes that have come out of the event:

One of the biggest upsets in World Cup history happened last week, when Mexico beat Germany 1- 0. Germany is  the previous World Cup champion, and they’ve been in top shape since soccer was invented. For some reason Chihuahas represent Mexico? I don’t know. The meme is still cute.

Argentina surprised the world by playing really bad, even though they arguably posses the best player in the history of the sport.

Acting is one of the most important skills a soccer player can have.

Senegal’s coach achieved Internet fame due to his awesome looks and the most perfect reaction.

Ronaldo is having a great World Cup, even though he’s practically doing all the work for Portugal.

Setting A Schedule Can Make You Less Productive

0

It can seem like there’s never enough time – not enough for sleep and not enough for play, not enough for cooking and not enough for exercise.

There’s a relatively new term to describe this feeling: time famine, or the sensation of having too much to do without enough time to do it.

RELATED: Rainy Weather Cocktails

In order to structure what little time we feel we have, one strategy we deploy is scheduling. In fact, reliance on organizational tools like daily planners has been on the rise. In two recent surveys, 51 percent of respondents said they regularly used their calendar app, while 63 percent of office workers consider calendars “very important.”

The idea is that scheduling will make you more efficient: When you allocate your time, it organizes your day into a series of appointments, meetings and calls, while blocking off free time for other activities or tasks.

But in a series of eight studies, Gabriela Tonietto, Steve Nowlis and I found that scheduling can sometimes backfire – and actually make us less productive.

An appointment approaches – and time ‘shrinks’

Much of scheduling’s downside has to do with the anticipation of a meeting or appointment. When we know a scheduled meeting or phone call is looming, it can make us feel like we have less time to do what we need to do.

In one study, we asked attendees of an academic conference whether they would go to the presidential address taking place about an hour later. Some said they would, and others said they wouldn’t. Those who planned to attend the address reported that the hour leading up to it felt shorter.

In another study, we had half of the participants imagine that a friend would be coming over in an hour, while the other half were told to imagine they had no plans. We asked all of the participants how many minutes they “subjectively” felt like they could spend reading during that same hour.

Those who were told to imagine that a friend would be coming over reported that the hour leading up to the visit had only 40 usable minutes for reading. Those who were told to imagine they had no plans felt as if they had 49 minutes to read.

So the presence of an upcoming activity seems to have shrunk how much time people felt they had to do something.

RELATED: 5 Morning Activities To Help You Feel Happier

Why might this happen?

We believe that when there’s an appointment looming, we direct our attention to it, whether it’s mentally preparing for it or simply dreading it. This makes the future appointment feel more substantial; as a result, the time interval leading up to the scheduled activity feels limited and insufficient.

Free to do … less?

But in the end, you still have the same amount of time leading up to a scheduled event.

So feeling like you have less time shouldn’t really matter, right? But it does. The feeling by itself can influence what people decide to do.

We know that when something is scarce, people consider it more valuable and are less willing to part with it.

The same is true for time. If time feels limited, people are less likely to use it – even when it’s in their best interest.

So in another study, we gave participants an empty calendar for the next day and asked them to fill it up, as accurately as possible, with what they had scheduled (including preparation or transition times). This allowed us to correctly calculate how much free time they had in between each planned event.

We then gave participants an opportunity to participate in a second study. Everyone made a choice between participating in a 30-minute online study that would earn them US$2.50, or signing up for a 45-minute online study to receive $5.00. Each would take place during an hourlong window.

On our end, we strategically chose the hourlong window for the participants. We told half of them that the study would take place within an hour of an event they’d scheduled. The other half would take the study during a time period that concluded with a half-hour cushion before their scheduled event.

We found that participants in the first group were much less likely to choose the longer but more lucrative study – despite having more than enough time to complete the study.

In yet another study, we wondered if the mere reminder of an upcoming event could have a similar effect.

Before beginning an unrelated study, we told half of the participants that they would have about five minutes to do whatever they wanted. We told the other half they had about five minutes before we would “get started.”

For those in the latter group, the simple mention of “starting something” was enough to change their behavior. We found that they engaged in significantly fewer activities, whether it was answering emails or checking social media, in this short five-minute period.

You’re less famished than you think

Some might think that time famine arises because they have too much to do and not enough time to do it.

While this may certainly be the case at times, our results suggest that the fault also lies in our own perception of what we feel can be done with the time we have. In other words, it’s important to realize that we might be contributing to our time famine.

If you love scheduling and planning out your days, a trick could be to schedule events or tasks back-to-back, which leaves you with larger chunks of unscheduled time. Several uninterrupted hours of unscheduled time will feel longer, especially if there’s nothing scheduled looming.

It can be effective to remind yourself that time isn’t as short as it feels. Even if you don’t think you’ll have enough time to complete something, you can still start a task and finish it later.

Cannabis-Friendly Milk Makeup Brings The Glow This Summer

In the ultimate of Instagram teasers, the company Milk Makeup recently released a video with trendy-looking boxes being opened and smoke billowing out of them. The caption underneath reads, “Puff, puff baby, the next kush is coming — and it’s gonna blow you away.” To promote their next cannabis centric offering, the company is giving away 25 of the new mystery items in a contest laid out beneath the post.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BkKz4LrnVVB

This is not Milk’s debut into the cannabis-meets-makeup world. They already have their CBD infused Kush Mascara. You may be wondering what kind of benefit CBD could have on ones lashes, but it turns out that CBD oil has been called a smoother replacement to beeswax, which is quite often used in the making of mascara. Plus, CBD oil is thought to condition lashes, contributing to their health in the long run.

RELATED: Target Sold CBD Online: Was It Legal?

Part of the contest is guessing what the next Kush product is. Comments on the post have been pouring in, with guesses like kush cannabis lip balms, foundation and eyeshadow palettes, though most comments are to the effect of “OMG!” “YESSSS” and “I don’t know, but I want it.”

No matter what type of makeup or skincare it turns out to be, it will almost definitely be CBD based, meaning that the cannabinoids are derived from the hemp plant containing less than 0.03 percent THC. However, it is the CBD oils that are working their stuff on the beauty market, not the getting high part.

Though it is possible to reap the benefits of THC transdermally, makeup wouldn’t be the most efficient manner and patches already exist for patients who cannot smoke or ingest their cannabis medication.

Milk Makeup is making quite the splash with their expanding Kush line of products, with nearly 115,000 views of the teaser post since Monday and the enthusiasm that they’re drumming up is contagious. It makes one wonder if this could be yet another booming facet of the cannabis marketplace.

Milk products are already vegan and cruelty free, why not make them healthy for the end user and the planet at the same time? The greater the demand for hemp to be used in products such as these, the closer we really do get to having a domestic hemp economy. Regardless of where the hemp is currently grown, it replenishes soil, releases oxygen and has good, usable material from the inside out. Milk Makeup is definitely fashion forward when it comes to these skin accessories.
