Tips To Avoid Mixing Up Halloween Candy With Edibles

0

It is the time of year with bowls and bags of candy all around…and big and little hands can’t seem to resist a snack or 4

Since spooky season is upon us, it won’t be long before everyone is indulging themselves in their favorite sweet treats. And for many of us, those treats could contain cannabis. It is the time of year when candy is all about, waiting for all sizes of hands to reach in and start snacking.  But the last thing you want is for a mix up.  Here are tips to avoid mixing up Halloween candy with edibles.

As many canna-consumers know, there is a wide variety of products on the market capable of satisfying a sweet tooth while delivering a buzz. Currently gummies are the most popular form of edible. Cannabis data firm BDSA shared 49% of consumers across adult-use and medical states claimed to have consumed a gummy edible in the past six months . The challenge is if treats can be easily accessed by the unsuspecting. Fortunately, there are numerous ways consumers can keep it from happening.

Open and Empty Them Into a Tightly Sealed Container

One of the aspects of edibles that attracts the attention of children is the fact that they often look like the treats that they’re used to. Additionally, as effective as child proof seals can be on packages, every now and again there are kids who are smart enough to get into them anyway. That’s why one of the most effective ways of keeping them out of their hands is by removing them from the packaging altogether and keeping them in a tightly sealed jar or container. Doing that allows consumers to keep their goodies fresh, without catching the attention of children.

Keep Them Out of Sight

Storing edibles in a separate container, out of the sight of children solves numerous problems for consumers. Among the biggest are dealing with kids who accidentally eat them thinking they’re regular treats they’re used to, along with conversations about why they aren’t allowed to have them.

RELATED: Perfect Weekend For Weed And A Scary Movie

By having a designated location for them, the only time they come out is when you’re ready to enjoy them. That eliminates a lot of the worry that comes with consuming edibles while children are present. The key to storing edibles out of plain sight is not forgetting where they are, so they don’t go bad.

Dispose of Them Correctly

As great as edibles are, they can pack quite the punch. With that in mind, it’s easy to feel the effects of an edible set in quicker than you might have anticipated. When that happens, and consumers prefer to dispose of edibles that they can’t eat, it’s important to get rid of them safely.

RELATED: Why You Need To Be Careful Using Edibles The First Time

In many cases, leftover edibles can be conserved with foil and safe storage as mentioned earlier. On the other hand, there are cases when consumers prefer not to save their leftovers, so if that’s the case it’s best for consumers to finely break up any remnants of an edible and blend it with the rest of the waste in the garbage can.

Why Do Some People Not Get High From Eating Edibles?

One of the great things about consuming marijuana nowadays is the fact that consumers aren’t restricted to smoking; people can enjoy their cannabis in numerous forms like brownies, cupcakes and gummies.

Everyone wants to enjoy their edibles safely, so when there are kids or pets in the household, it starts with keeping them out of their reach. Marijuana edibles can have detrimental health effects when taken unintentionally. The good news is, no one would mix up candy corn with an edible!

The Real Reason People Are Buying Marijuana

Unlike alcohol, cannabis has medical benefits….so what is the real reason people are buying marijuana?

Marijuana has become mainstream, but the old stigma still sticks around for a few people…mainly Congressman. With 23 states legal and 40 medical, a majority have moved passed stigma and mainstream companies are starting to embrace it.  From Constellation to 7-Eleven, they see it as another consumer product. All major mainstream medical groups acknowledge cannabis’s medical benefits, allowing it to be used by patients.  So what is the real reason people buying marijuana?

Some states start with medical marijuana where people have to have a reason to purchase and usually a card and validation system.  When medical states go full recreational, there are some changes in buying habits.  We know more people purchase, but why?

BDSA, one of the nation’s leading cannabis data firms shared some exclusive information. Patients who use for a medical reason can experience changes when a state goes fully recreational, such as changes to excise and sales tax rates and regulations on edible form factors and potency. For those who use it as a “quality of life” issue, say for anxiety, etc., these changes are usually less impactful, and “quality of life” consumers usually stand to benefit from increased retail availability and lower average retail prices that have historically followed recreational legalization.

Which of the following best describes your use of cannabis?
Adult-Use States Medical Only States
Recreational & Social 75% 71%
Health or Medical 56% 61%
Quality of Life 44% 44%

“Cannabis offers medical benefits that are increasingly recognized by mainstream society,” said Brendan-Mitchel Chesebro, BDSA analyst. “While some old stigmas persist, the majority of states have embraced its use, and both consumer participation and support for legalization by non-consumers continue to rise. People are purchasing marijuana for a variety of reasons, from health to social enjoyment.”

The major reason is for fun and enjoyment. Alcohol and food fall into the same category. But unlike alcohol, consumers also see a medical reason to engage with cannabis whether overcoming shyness, reducing anxiety or trying to manage PTSD.

Behind only tobacco use and obesity, alcohol use is the third most common lifestyle-related cause of death in the United States. People drink alcohol because of its ability to alter emotional states. Alcohol induces euphoria, relaxation, and disinhibition while reducing stress and anxiety. Of course, alcohol can make a person aggressive and belligerent. And data has show it doesn’t provide any medical benefit.

How To Use Every Drop From THC Vapes

Vaping is the most popular way to consume marijuana among the Gen Z and Millennials. Here is how to get the most for your spend

Call it being frugal or being on a budget in anticipation of the next great travel vacation, but people are looking to stretch a dollar. Vaping is the hot consuming way among Gen Z and Millennials, and flower is losing ground to both vaping and edibles. But are there ways to ensure every drop of THC-liquid is squeezed out of those cartridges before tossing them in the trash. After all, there is nothing wrong with catching one final buzz before bringing in a replacement. Here is how to use every drop from THC vapes.

Related: Pros And Cons Of Pre-Filled Vape Pens

The first step is this process is removing the liquid from the cartridge. To do this, it is necessary to heat up the mechanism without burning up the liquid inside. Any heat source is fine. But it is important to avoid using a direct flame. Doing this only stands to ruin the liquid before it can be repurposed.

Once the liquid is out of the cartridge, it can be used in a variety of ways. People who enjoy joints that burn slow and hit hard can use the remaining liquid to twax.

Basically, this is a method used to decorate the inside or outside of joint with kief or concentrates. The THC liquid is not a bad way to bind these byproducts to buds. It is especially good if you don’t have a dab rig sitting around the house. But then again if you do, dabbing the leftover liquid is always an option for getting the final buzz out of a vape cartridge. Because of the consistency of the liquid, it is not going to hit like shatter, but it will work.

Yet, if the thought of going new school is a bit too scary, there are easier options for using up the last of those cartridges. This stuff can be heated up and poured on top of the buds packed in bowls and bongs, too. Think of it as the hot fudge on your stoner sundae.

Related: Why Gen Z Is Putting Down Beer And Picking Up Marijuana

Of course, the simplest way to repurpose THC liquids is to simply pour them in a beverage. It is a nice way to give your morning coffee or five o’clock cocktail an extra boost. The liquid inside these cartridges, especially in the higher quality versions, already contain active THC. There is no need to heat the product up in order to bring on the stoned effects.

Experiment with these methods to figure out which works best for you.

0

Halloween costumes can be a pain, so a little suggestion can help in a big way…and Google has just the trick

Halloween is right around the corner and people are thinking about what are they doing for the weekend and what are they doing for Halloween night.  Stay home, stay home and give out candy, go out in a costume, buy a $3 black mask and call it a day.? Decisions and stress.

Most US adults will not be dressing up based on data from the latest Yahoo/YouGov poll. The  poll unmasked 22% are opting to dress up for the spooky holiday but a whoping 63% have chosen to skip out this season while 14% haven’t decided one way or another.  Depending on what you like to do, one side is wrong.  For those who do like to dress up, Google could help pick a halloween costume.

Google Trends set up a spooky page called “Frightgeist” showing the most popular costumes and the most popular in each state. There are different sections, including a map of the U.S. highlighting the most searched costumes per state and an option to search for a costume according to your own personal preferences.

According to the poll a slight smaller percentage will be making their costumes as opposed to buying (hello Amazon!).  A small group are having someone else make their outfit for them, while another are bringing back an existing one from their own closet.

And another group is still undecided. Here are some of the most popular Halloween costumes for you to consider

Witch costumes are a classic, easy to  make and are part of the lore of Halloween. Ironically, the first known witch’s outfit is nudity — as in, no clothes at all — which was depicted in paintings. Rubie’s T. rex costume, with a comically large wobbling head, gained popularity in pranks, visual gags, and as an internet meme. Might be a little large for crowded parties, but people will roar at your success.

Lastly, from Dallas to West Hollywood to Toronto there is the overtly sexy costume. The revealing Halloween costume arrived in a two-wave movement- — first in the 1970s after the sexual revolution and the other took place in the early 2000s, after pivotal films were released which portraying mostly women embracing the sexy Halloween costumes. In West Hollywood, a large portion of the guy’s costumes are underwear which show they are a cop, a superhero, a cowboy, etc.

Google could help you pick a Halloween costume or you can let you creative, sexy inspiration drive you to something really fun!

Mike Johnson And Marijuana

With complete Republican support, Representative Mike Johnson is Speaker of House of Representatives

The US House of Representative finally elected a new Speaker of the House on Wednesday.  Representative Johnson (R-LA) immediately took to the position like a duck to water. He is in his fourth term, representing Louisiana’s 4th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2017.  A powerful rise for one of the newer kids on the block.  But what about Mike Johnson and marijuana?

Johnson’s home state of Louisiana has legal medical marijuana, but recreational marijuana use remains prohibited under state law. New Orleans, known as the Big Easy, is ok with to-go cups of alcohol, but not legal weed.

Louisiana first approved medical cannabis for cancer and glaucoma patients in 1978. The state’s medical marijuana program was advanced further by the Alison Neustrom Act (SB 143) in 2015. This act increased the types of qualifying conditions and delivery methods available to patients. Finally, the passage of HB 819, which was signed into law by Governor John Bel Edwards in 2020, greatly expanded medical cannabis access to qualified residents of the state.

The cannabis industry entered the fall with high hopes after a bruising couple of years.  Consumer sales continue to skyrocket, the Biden administration finally made a move on rescheduling and the Senate decided to create the SAFER Banking bill, after the House had passed a similar one seven times.  But the House Speaker election results have cast a chill over the industry with several industry leaders worried about the outlook.

Johnson has been clear he is not a fan of legal marijuana. Johnson voted against the Medical Marijuana and Cannabidiol Research Expansion Act that President Joe Biden signed into law late last year.  He also twice voted against the bipartisan SAFE Banking Act, the predecessor to the SAFER Banking Act, in 2019 and 2021.

RELATED: Exclusive: #3 In Senate Talks About SAFER Banking

He is a Southern Baptist evangelical and has said: “My faith informs everything I do.”.  This could be a key concern when it comes to cannabis. Southern Baptists are not a big fan of drinking alcohol as it is an intoxicate.  The irony is he represents a state known for its drinking culture.

Fall is in the air, pumpkin spice is in cups and cuffing season has started. About 40% use a dating app with 70% have had some success.

So her are the best tips for success on dating apps.

Take your time selecting photos

It could be argued that online dating is based solely on your selection of photos. Of course, there’s your bio and other bits of information, but photos carry a large responsibility when it comes to swipes. When you select your personal photos, make sure to choose images that serve different purposes and that are relatively new. You should have at least one close up and one establishing shot, with other photos that compliment your profile and that show hints of your personality and interests. Cluttered images or ones that contain tons of people should be avoided since they’re confusing for strangers. If you need a second opinion, be sure to ask your friends to pitch in and help you make good choices.

Write a good bio

An emoji doesn’t replace a bio. According to Tinder executive Rosette Pambakian, men are 98 percent less likely to get a match if their bio space is left blank. No matter how much space you have available in your bio, make sure to try to cover some aspects of your interest and personality. Popular Science suggests avoiding “Generic openers, too much boasting, and attempts at awkward humor.” We agree.

Take chances on people

The more choices you have, the harder it is to make your decision. This poses a real problem for dating apps, where possibilities are practically endless – if you’re straight and live in a city. Make sure to go through people’s profiles carefully, not settling but trying to look beyond the screen and into the real person. Don’t discard someone over a bad photo or a poor haircut.

Be active online

In order for dating apps to work, you need to use them regularly. It’s okay to take periodic brakes from apps, but it’s also important to remember why you’re using them in the first place. Every once in a while log in, update your info, reply to messages and do some swiping. Dating apps have algorithms, with every action you take improving your compatibility with the app, getting you closer to what you want.

Know the differences between each app

Each app has pros and cons and it’s important to get to know them. Tinder has a reputation of being the prime facilitator for hookups, but it’s also got the most amount of users. Bumble is supposedly a little more serious and preferred by women. Give each app a try and see which one fits best. It also helps to visit the sites’ FAQ and do a quick read through of their perks and benefits.

The Etiquette Around Your Ex’s Steaming Password

The combined monthly costs for streaming services can add up quickly, especially if you have have FOMO and subscribe to Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, Peacock and HBO Go. Considering all are getting more expensive, when we come into contact with a free password and login, why wouldn’t we keep it? Even if it belongs to an ex? It’s like free money.

Netflix really stirred the pot when they decided only people in the same house can use the password for free.  Their policy says The account owner will need to purchase an extra member slot, then invite an extra member to use the extra member slot.  Now, spending $7 -11 and not having to Venmo someone $2.35 a month might be good for some, but multiple services add up.

According to a survey by Exstreamist, 13 percent of people still use an ex’s Netflix password. People like Jeanna Satariano, who uses her current boyfriend’s passwords, but kindly shares her Netflix account with her ex. She tells Moneyish, “Since our relationship is in a fine place (and) we’re cordial with each other … it doesn’t stir up any hard feelings.”

Experts tell Moneyish there are times when sharing login information with an ex just doesn’t make sense. But, there are also occasions when it’s okay. Here are some quick and dirty rules to judge your situation.

Lose the password if:

You had a bad breakup.  As Etiquette expert Thomas P. Farley puts it to Moneyish, “It’s the non-married, millennial equivalent of somebody cutting off a spouse’s credit card because they’re separated.”

You want your ex to quit sponging off you. Etiquette expert Elaine Swann told Moneyish to “do the work first — meaning change any passwords … delete the person from the system, and then follow up and let them know. And, of course, be considerate in the manner in which you tell them.”

Use the password if:

If things are amicable. Said Farley, “If you are a young, millennial urban dweller living on a very tight budget … you most likely share a lot of these subscriptions for the purpose of not just convenience, but for budgetary savings,”

If you received the streaming subscription as a gift. But if you’d like to continue the service after your subscription expires, it’s up to you to foot the bill. “Whatever the understanding of the initial term was when the gift was presented, is yours to keep,” said Farley. “But I would not hesitate from calling the company and asking, ‘When does this term end? OK, here, I’d like to give you my credit card to auto-renew.’”

How To Avoid Marijuana Paranoia

A bit of a scare at this time of year is fun, but you don’t want it extended.  Marijuana paranoia can hit – but here is what to do.

We are living in a wacky time with social media, politics, and everything else. For the seasoned and new folks, a little cannabis to keep back and chill is a blessing.  In fact, the Gen Z is drifting away from alcohol and some are landing on weed.  California sober is a thing.  But, there is an occasional hiccup, so here is how to avoid marijuana paranoia.

Narijuana can straddle the line between deep relaxation and iparanoia, with a single variable being able to tip the scale in either direction. Paranoia is an occurrence when consuming, something might turn people off if they’re feeling stressed out. There’s no standard way of preventing it, but there are ways of controlling some of the variables might cause you to spiral out of control.

THC is a complex compound; there’s a lot of mystery surrounding it and the data exists is sparse and conflicting, but when it comes to its effect on anxiety there’s one clear answer. Small amounts of THC are effective at mitigating anxiety and larger amounts are likely to increase the odds of experiencing it.

As always, marijuana is deeply personal and there’s no one size fits all approach; what may work for tempering one person’s anxiety may not work on another, but it can provide a helpful frame of reference.

The THC/CBD ratio is important

The relationship between CBD and THC is important, particularly when it comes to anxiety and paranoia. CBD plays an important role when mitigating the psychoactive effects of THC. Strains with high amount of CBD or with equal amounts of CBD and THC may not provide you with the giggly euphoric yet delightful mess of THC, but may still leave you feeling relaxed after a long day spent of staring intently at your computer.

Keep track of your triggers

If you’ve had bad experiences with marijuana, try to remember what happened the day it was triggered. Was it the strain? Was it your mood? Was it the people you were with? Keep in mind these variables whenever you’re planning on toking up and limit your amount of stressors. Start off slow, preferably with something you’ve tried before and increase or experiment as you go.

While marijuana can be used to treat anxiety, timing is very important. When experiencing your anxiety peak, try your best to take it easy. If you’re planning on having weed, control the amount of THC you consume, and smoke only with people you trust and feel comfortable with.
