This Kentucky Town Voted A Dog As Mayor For The Fourth Year

Only in small towns would you find a story like this. The Kentucky town of Rabbit Hash is so small, they’re of little use for a full-time mayor. Still they elect one, just in case. Their latest mayor is named Brynneth Paltrow. She is a dog.

Brynneth, or Brynn for short, is a 3-year-old rescue pit bull. The election wasn’t given to her, however. Brynn had to compete against Stella the cat and Higgins the donkey in the election. She won in a landslide, amassing more than 3,300 votes.

“She’s a lover, she’s such a sweet dog. She is a pit bull rescue and she’s going to be quite the ambassador for that breed,” Bobbi Kayser, who is on the board of directors for the Rabbit Hash Historical Society in Kentucky, told People.

This is the fourth time in a row Rabbit Hash has elected a dog as mayor. Residents use the election as a fundraising opportunity. Each vote costs $1 and residents can cast as many votes as their wallet allows. The proceeds went to the The Rabbit Hash General Store, which was devastated by a fire last year. Some voting may have been caused by an early happy hour.

“We encourage drinking at the polls,” Kayser told People. “[P]eople tend to donate more if they’ve had a few.”

Brynn won the position last November and was “indawgerated” (seriously) in January. Brynn ran on a platform of “peace, love and understanding,” as Brynn’s owner, 23-year-old Jordie Bamforth, told the Cincinnati Enquirer.

“Brynn has declared to be peaceful with any human or animal that comes through Rabbit Hash, especially the cats,” said Bamforth, who adopted Byrnn from a local shelter. “Brynn does like to chase the cats around here, but has pledged to refrain from it as much as possible.”

Gossip: Beyoncé And Jay-Z Can’t Afford Their Dream House; Britney Spears Opens Up About 2007 Meltdown

Beyoncé and Jay-Z aren’t as rich as we thought.

Though the couple — who recently welcomed a pair of newborn twins — are spending their summer in a rented Malibu mansion for $40,000 a month, Bey and Jay are said to be having down problems locking down a Los Angeles mansion within their price range. In fact, the parents-of-three’s hunt for the perfect family estate has come to a halt due to money problems.

Via TMZ:

Our real estate sources say the Carters have been frustrated because their search — which has gone on for several weeks— has hit a stumbling block, and the stumbling block is cash.

We’re told their budget is around $75 million, give or take a few mil. It sounds nuts, but they can’t find a place they love for the amount they’re willing to spend. As one well-connected source puts it, “They want a super baller, crazy estate, and the ones they love are going for $150 mil.”

Our sources say the Carters have seen just about everything that’s on the market and nothing in their price range is floating their boat.

Britney Spears Opens Up About Her 2007 Meltdown

My life was controlled by too many people and that doesn’t let you be yourself. I was lost and didn’t know what to do with myself. I was trying to please everyone around me because that’s who I am deep inside. There are moments when I look back and think ‘what the hell was I thinking’.

“I had to give myself more breaks and take responsibility for my mental health.”

Spears admits that despite the fact that she still finds fame overwhelming at times, she’s reached a good place in her life.

“All this fame is way too much for me, as it’s really hard to grasp its magnitude. When you’re young and in the beginning of your career it’s understandable that you’ve just stepped into this world. I have these moments where I just want to dress up like a normal person and walk in the street. It goes through my mind quite a lot.

“Each and every one of us that starts at a young age needs to take account that you’ve gotta be balanced in order to stay in this industry and to manage your personal life. Sometimes that’s very challenging. I think I was very different back then, younger, not always knowing what’s good or bad, very instinctive.

“Today I’m at a better place in my life. My kids shaped my personality and filled me. They made me not worry about what was happening to me,” she added.

4 Long-Term Effects Marijuana Use Has On The Brain

One common refrain among cannabis legalization activists is that the drug’s current classification as a Schedule I drug inhibits meaningful research of the long-term effect marijuana has on the brain.

Though the research is limited, we are starting to understand how marijuana use affects the brain. In numerous ways the brain can adapt to chronic marijuana usage in surprising ways. Here’s how.

Reward Systems In The Brain

People who use marijuana consistently over a long period of time can experience changes to their reward systems. One study found that users who had smoked marijuana for 12 years on average showed more activity in their brain’s reward system when seeing pictures of smoking paraphernalia versus pictures of their favorite fruits.

“This study shows that marijuana disrupts the natural reward circuitry of the brain, making marijuana highly salient to those who use it heavily,” study author Dr. Francesca Filbey, an associate professor of behavioral and brain science at the University of Texas at Dallas, said in a statement.

While you might balk at the study’s variables—testing fruits against weed for longtime cannabis users seems like an obvious losing battle—it does demonstrate how the brain’s natural reward system can alter due to cannabis use.

Changes In Brain Size And Connectivity

This one’s interesting. Scientists wanted to test how smoking marijuana daily affects specific regions of the brain. So they tested 48 users who smoked three times a day every day, against 68 control subjects. They discovered those who’d smoked daily for more than four years had a smaller region of grey matter in an area called the orbitofrontal cortex, commonly associated with addiction.

In addition these users demonstrated greater connectivity across different brain regions. Connectivity measures how information well information can travel in the brain. The scientist who conducted the study suggested that the decreased grey matter could explain the increased activity.

“Neural Noise”

Marijuana’s main psychoactive compound THC could be the cause of “neural noise,” as one study showed. (Neural noise is considered random neural activity.) Researchers administered cannabis to participants via an IV and afterwards recorded increased neural noise. This included participants reporting symptoms of altered perceptions to reality and disorganized thoughts.

“At doses roughly equivalent to half or a single joint, [THC] produced psychosis-like effects and increased neural noise in humans,” senior study author Dr. Deepak Cyril D’Souza, a Yale School of Medicine professor of psychiatry, said in a statement.

Weed And The Adolescent Brain

Currently there is conversation around if cannabis enacts long-term changes to the teenage brain. A pair of studies in 2016 showcased that smoking cannabis did not cause a long-term decline in IQ. The studies were performed on twins, which allowed for scientists to closely distinguish between environmental influence and genetic factors.

These studies showed that while cannabis-smoking participants scored a lower IQ, the same decline was seen in their non-smoking counterparts. Though it should be mentioned a 2014 study did demonstrate a change in white matter among chronic teenage cannabis users. This, scientists said, could lead to difficulties with attention and impulsivity. The white matter changes, however, were not seen in users over the age of 16.

These Poppy Seeds Won’t Make You Look Like A Drug Addict

It’s actually less of a particular type of poppy seeds and more of a blend.

Some geniuses over at a global ingredient supply company in London (FDL) created a proprietary mix of Eastern European poppy seeds recognized for having low levels of morphine — which often creates a false-positive for heroin in drug tests —  and cheaper poppy seeds from the UK that have a higher amount of the opioid.

While there is a drug test that factors in poppy seeds, produced by the opium poppy plant, eating too many can still inaccurately peg you as a heroin addict.

In 2013, a Pennsylvania woman won a nice chunk of change in a settlement after the state took away her newborn when she failed a hospital mandated drug test after eating, you guessed it, a damn poppy seed bagel.

The lawsuit claimed that “Elizabeth Mort never imagined that the last thing she ate before giving birth to her daughter —  a poppy seed bagel —  would lead to the loss of her newborn, but that is exactly what happened…”

FDL’s Dr. Gareth Elwin tells FoodNavigator that the company’s blend has residual morphine levels below 20 parts per million compared to the 900 parts per million for average poppy seeds in the UK.

Elwin says FDL has already scored a deal with a big bread maker to begin selling their hybrid poppy blend and thinks other bread companies will follow suit, as none of them want their image associated with being a drug test buzzkill.

No word when these low-narcotic poppy seeds will be available stateside.

Gossip: Katy Perry And Chris Martin Hooked Up; ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 9’ Is The Most Watched Series In History

The Sun is also saying that Katy Perry and Chris Martin  hooked up at Glastonbury. Supposedly they were seen holding hands. Chris was also supposedly seen kissing another artist, Dua Lipa, the day before.

His reps have denied the Dua Lipa part but so far haven’t commented on the Katy Perry rumors. So, basically, Chris Martin is doing at a music festival what a lot of people do at music festivals: random.

RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 9 is the Most Watched In Series History

According to VH1:

“[They] reported that 859,000 people tuned in to the Season 9 finale, which signaled a 218 percent increase over last season’s finale in the coveted 18-49 demographic.

The full season also saw a significant increase over Season 8, with a 122 percent increase in viewers in the same group.

VH1 also said the show was the highest trending television program on social media Friday, ranking in non-sports, non-news cable categories.”

The Latest On Arkansas’ Medical Marijuana Program

Despite strong opposition from Republican Gov. Asa Hutchinson and most of the state’s GOP Congress, the voter-passed Medical Marijuana Amendment of 2016 continues its slow and steady advancement and the program is on target to begin sometime early next year. Here is the latest on Arkansas’ medical marijuana program.

Arkansas, the first state in America’s Bible Belt to vote for medical marijuana, will begin accepting applications from patients, growers and distributors this week.

On Friday, Arkansas’ Medical Marijuana Commission will begin accepting applications from growers who seek to provide medical marijuana for patients in the state. The law, which passed in November with 53 percent of the vote, does not allow for citizens to grow their own cannabis, so this is a key step for patients.

Also on Friday, citizens seeking medicinal marijuana as a treatment will be able to begin requesting identification cards. According to a news release from the Arkansa Department of Health:

These cards will allow patients or caregivers to purchase medical marijuana at a licensed dispensary. Currently, there are no licensed medical marijuana dispensaries in Arkansas. Cards will be issued to qualifying patients and caregivers approximately 30 days before medical marijuana is available for legal purchase in the state, which is likely to be early next year.

The applications require a written certification from a doctor that the patient has a qualifying condition on an official ADH form. Letters from doctors will not be accepted; only a written certification on the ADH forms can be submitted for consideration.

According to estimates from state officials, there could be up t0 40,000 patients who will apply for medical marijuana cards. The cost to patients for a card is $50 a year. If the estimates are correct, the state will have $2 million in card fees before collecting any revenue from taxes.

Robert Brech, the state Health Department’s chief lawyer, estimated earlier this month that running Arkansas’ medical marijuana program will cost about $1.5 million in the next year.

The law allows for the following qualifying conditions:

Qualifying Conditions:

  • Alzheimer’s Disease
  • Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease)
  • Arthritis
  • Cancer
  • Crohn’s Disease
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Glaucoma
  • Hepatitis C
  • Positive Status for HIV and/or AIDS
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Tourette’s Syndrome
  • Ulcerative Colitis
  • Chronic or debilitating disease that produces:
    • Wasting Syndrome or cachexia
    • Peripheral neuropathy
    • Intractable pain
    • Severe nausea
    • Seizures
    • Severe and persistent muscle spasms

How Different Types Of Marijuana Affect Your Orgasms

0

It’s a truth universally acknowledged that having sex while high is amazing. Women who’ve reported their experiences claim that their orgasms were longer, stronger and in some cases multiple. A less known but super interesting fact is that different strains of cannabis affect your body and sexual performance in different ways.

While every person reacts differently to marijuana, experts believe that sativa strains are the best ones when it comes to having better sex, because they promote the contraction of muscles and provide an invigorating high that increases your blood flow. A good blood flow will maintain all important areas properly lubricated and will also help in maintaining your level of excitement.

Indicas produce a reverse effect, making people more lethargic and paranoid, especially when consumed in large quantities. These strains still have their perks; some users prefer them over sativas and hybrids because they help them achieve full bodied and longer lasting orgasms. Hybrid strains will also do an awesome job because they’re more balanced and will make it harder for you to get too high to the point where it affects your performance.

If you’re interested in using other types of cannabis to enhance your sex life, you can try cannabis based lubes which are designed especially for sex and are meant to enhance your performance directly and without any distractions, like getting you too high or giving you the munchies. One of the most famous of these is Foria, which has gathered a following due to its amazing results.

Lance Herbstrong Releases “Ripped” Featuring Big Daddy Kane

Here’s the premise of the new time-travel film Ripped: Two hippie buddies from 1986 smoke secret CIA marijuana that causes them to pass out for 30 years. The Rip Van Winkles awake in 2016 and must navigate how society’s changed since Reagan was president.

Though older (and fatter), the buddies haven’t lost any of their enthusiasm. They decide to take cannabis entrepreneurship to the next level in our more carefree present day. The film is directed by Brad Epstein, who co-wrote the script with Billiam Coronel. Ripped stars Russell Peters and Faizon Love as the two time-traveling stoner buds.

But Ripped also showcases the popular mashup act Lance Herbstrong. We’re happy to premiere the band’s first original song titled “Ripped,” which also features Big Daddy Kane. Lance Herbstrong performs the song in the film and also appears throughout.

Lance Herbstrong has performed with various other acts live, including Perry Farrell, Massive Attack, members of Slightly Stoopid, Brad Wilk of Rage Against the Machine, and Lance Armstrong. Yes, the cyclist Lance Armstrong who provides their namesake and once sat in playing drums with the band.

Ripped premieres in select theaters Friday 6/23 as well as on iTunes and VOD. You can watch the trailer here.

Why We Love Manicures With Marijuana

Freeform, gradient, french, reverse french; these are all different types of manicures and none of them are as original as High Art nails. Louisiana Pham has been doing these nails in California for over two years and since then she’s been growing and developing her network of clients who are into this peculiar look. Her work can be considered high art because they are gorgeous, but also because of the pieces of marijuana leaves in them.

#weednails #dankdigits

A post shared by Louie Pham (@orchidnaillounge) on

This trend started because of a client who wanted a different kind of manicure for the marijuana show she was supposed to go to. Pham and her agreed that marijuana cartoons and designs weren’t enough, so they added some bits and pieces of marijuana leaves onto the nails and nail polish. It’s a methodical but simple enough process, where bits of marijuana are added onto the nails with a tweezer or mixed into the nail polish depending on the look that the client is looking for. This weed nail trend has grown in popularity the more marijuana has been legalized throughout the US, and Pham’s business has been replicated by other salons. The one thing she demands is a medical card, so all the cannabis used in her salon is legally purchased. One thing to keep in mind is the area where you live. Even if you’re not consuming cannabis, possession of it is still illegal in some states and having bits of bud on your fingers might not be the best idea.

If you can’t get enough of nails and nail art, you can always check out “Claws”, the new TNT show that looks like a mix of “Breaking Bad” and “Spring Breakers”. It stars Dean Norris – yeah, from Breaking Bad – and it tells the story of a group of women who use their nail salon as a way to launder their illegal money.

Just remember to get your weed nails done in a state where cannabis is legal. You don’t want to end up like one of the girls from “Claws.” But that show also takes place in Florida, so weed or no weed, they’re screwed either way.

Gossip: Brad Pitt And Sienna Miller Handsy In Glastonbury; Kim Kardashian Criticized For Saint West’s Front-Facing Car Seat

Superstar Brad Pitt fueled talk he is in the early stages of a new romance with Sienna Miller by cuddling up to the Brit actress at Glastonbury. The pair were seen holding hands and stroking each other during a late night party session on Worthy Farm over the weekend. The A-listers met up at 3am on Saturday morning in the festival’s exclusive Rabbit Hole area before retiring to their VIP Winnebago.

A source revealed: “Brad and Sienna couldn’t keep their hands off each other, touching and stroking each other at every opportunity. They seemed really intimate. Brad had been keeping a relatively low profile at the festival, but emerged with the masses at 3am to link up with Sienna after she’d spent the night partying with their mutual pal Bradley Cooper and Noel Gallagher in the VIP Park backstage bar. They seemed keen to get away from prying eyes and made a dash for the Rabbit Hole, the festival’s underground and exclusive venue, with a group of friends and were inseparable as they waited to go inside.

“The party was cut short and they had to leave after five minutes because the venue was closing. Bradley Cooper left and Brad and Sienna headed back arm in arm to their private Winnebago.”

Brad, 53, was tee-total at the festival after revealing he had quit booze earlier this year to “become a better man” following his split from Angelina in August 2016.
