District Attorney Calls Marijuana ‘A Gateway To Homicide’

Today in the wild stereotypes that are spread about marijuana: Is marijuana a gateway to homicide? At least, that’s what 4th Judicial District Attorney Dan May said, according to KKTV:

“Marijuana is the gateway drug to homicide in our community and across our state, and people need to start recognizing that.”

The Southern Colorado Cannabis Council shut that nonsense down quickly, in a response to May’s comments:

“Today, District Attorney Dan May made some very concerning comments linking cannabis use to murder. He stated that, “Marijuana is the gateway drug to homicide, in our community and across the state and people need to start recognizing that.” This statement is utterly false. Study after study has shown that there is no correlation between cannabis use and violent crime. We would ask the District Attorney to retract his statement or provide proof of correlation between the two. This is an extremely dangerous statement. It is dangerous to Colorado’s fastest growing industry and it is dangerous to anyone associated with cannabis Colorado.”

A Shot Of Chili Vodka Landed This Guy In The Hospital

Bravery or stupidity? It’s hard to say which motivates the souls who attempt to eat insanely hot chili peppers for fun. But when it comes in liquid, liquor form, hot pepper infused foods can be even more dangerous. Especially chili vodka.

A man was literally knocked out by Satan’s Shot vodka, which is soaked in Carolina Reaper peppers, the hottest pepper in the world.

The vodka bottle label reads: “Satan’s Shot – Triple distilled 100% pure grain vodka infused by the Chilli Pepper Company for three weeks with the world’s hottest chili, the Carolina Reaper. Only Satan himself is brave enough to drink this vodka neat. If you feel fearless and want to drink with Satan, you will feel like you are burning in hell itself.”

Sounds like a good time!

According to IBTimes, a woman bought the bottle at a chili festival and shared it with her friends. Everyone was sickened by it, but one man was so ill that they called an ambulance after he fell unconscious.

How about we all agree that some things — like ridiculously hot peppers — aren’t meant to be eaten by humans?

Creative Cocktails That Everyone Needs To Drink This Fall

Cocktail etiquette in New York City has a long standing history defined by some classic drinks and yet, it is an ever evolving art form that draws clients and customers who don’t tolerate close minded and self satisfied bartenders. Cocktail hour demands concoctions that currently embrace ingredients like cucumbers pickled in sake, to white chocolate drops in rum, to hot chili and curry leaves in martinis, to… the running of the Red Bulls (which can be mixed with most anything.)

The exotic and the cool factor are king in this industry and there are only a few mixologists that I trust with my buds. My taste buds that is. One of these new and rising faces is a young handsome devil of a bartender named Bryan Roncancio. Bryan holds court in the speak easy style back room of a cute hybrid coffee shop bar named, The Roost NYC. I asked Bryan to tell me his top three cocktails of the moment and he instantly hit me off with three drinks that I can get behind, and one in particular: The Espresso Old Fashioned.

I love this drink because I love espresso and the Roost NYC uses coffee from Brooklyn Roasters, so the quality is very high! “This is an off the menu cocktail offered at The Roost with our spin on the classic Old Fashioned, by adding fresh espresso into the mix. The cocktail was created for our opening day and for many regulars of The Roost, the Espresso Old Fashioned is a must have.”

Espresso Old Fashioned

  • 2 oz Rye whiskey
  • 1 brown sugar cube
  • 2 dashes Angostura Bitters
  • Garnished with a lemon peel
  • Served on the rocks

After getting pumped up on the espresso Old Fashioned, Bryan versed me in the storied American cocktail, the Sazerac. “The Sazerac is a classic, with its birthplace being New Orleans dating back to the 19th century. Originally using Cognac or Rye Whiskey the Sazerac is seeing a resurgence in the cocktail world, due to the growth of craft distilleries in the U.S. I find myself being asked to prepare this delicious marriage of Cognac, sugar, bitters, and absinthe more and more.”

Traditional Sazerac

  • 2oz Cognac brandy
  • 1 sugar cube/brown sugar cube
  • 2 dashes Peychaud Bitters
  • Absinthe rinse
  • Lemon zest
  • Served neat in a chilled glass

The third and final cocktail Bryan presented to me was something he “Found inspiration in while working on the Roost spring cocktail menu, using one of my favorite spirits: Bourbon. I wanted to capture the feel of spring and so we will be offering a cocktail that combines mango and lemon juice, with a bit of agave, served super chilled on the rocks. It’s called “Takes Two to Mango.”

Takes Two To Mango

  • 1.5 oz Bourbon
  • 1 oz Mango Juice
  • ¾ Lemon Juice
  • Splash of Agave Nectar
  • Garnished with Basil leaves
  • Served on the rocks

After sitting and sipping these three cocktails with Bryan, I coherently slurred my final question. I had to ask why being behind the bar is a such a joy for him.

“Mixology and bartending for me are much more than a way to earn a living. They are an extension of my personality, my knowledge, and the craft of drink making and I love the opportunity to leverage my current knowledge base to my clients, while continuing my quest for even more knowledge in this exciting business.”

So, this fall get your Mango Agave kicks with It Takes Two to Mango, or settle into your comfort zone with a Traditional Sazerac, or finally, take lift off with a new buzz on the Old Fashion with, an Espresso Old Fashion! Bryan is there to serve you with a smile and terrific insight, just as you deserve.

15 Hipster Foods You Love And Their ’80s Equivalent

Is food even food if someone’s not around to photograph it? Back in the 1980s, there were Polaroids, but no cell phone cameras —  or cell phones. But believe it or not, food existed somehow. And it wasn’t that much different than it is today.

Instead of hipsters, there were Gen-Xers who got off on eating sugary and overly processed foods to numb themselves to the hard truth that Netflix didn’t yet exist. Today’s consumers are way more health and image conscious; packaging matters as much as the taste, if not more. Back in the “Decade of Excess,” it was all about flavor and sugar dosing. What else was there to do in the 80s besides crash? Here are 15 “hipster” foods and their 1980s equivalent.

Gossip: Will & Kate Will Give Kids Unplugged Childhood; Everything Angelina Jolie And Brad Pitt Have Said About Their Divorce

So keen. A Middleton family insider says the duo “are keen” to give the future monarchs — George and Charlotte are third and fourth in line for the British throne, respectively — a life outside the palace’s gilded walls. “While they feel it’s important to make them aware of their backgrounds,” says the insider, “it’s also vital for both George and Charlotte to have as much normalcy in their lives as possible.”

An unplugged childhood. A source close to the couple reveals they’ve banned iPads at home. “They’re very much seen as Mummy and Daddy’s toys, not for children,” says the source. “As two people who grew up without gadgets for entertainment themselves, William and Kate are firm believers in toys, outdoor play and encouraging an active imagination.” Adds a palace insider, “They’re very much a normal family.”

George & Will. Us Weekly says George and William spend a lot of time together and George “is at an age where he’s starting to realize that the world he lives in is different to his friends,” says a source. So when he and William strap on helmets and ride bikes around their 10-bedroom Georgian mansion in the sleepy Norfolk village of Anmer (a source says George peddles without training wheels!) George peppers him with inquiries. He’s full of questions and curiosity about everything around him,” explains the source. “He’s growing up to be a very confident young boy.” And a bright one, too. William recently confided to a pal that their conversations “are surprisingly deep,” says the source. “William says his view of the world is absolutely fascinating.” And the former East Anglian Air Ambulance pilot gets an earful of Georges’s opinions often. Notes the source, “George is very close to his father.”

Charlotte is especially close to her mom. The tot, due to start preschool in 2018, is so close to Kate that those close to the duchess joke “that Mummy definitely has a shadow,” says the Middleton family insider. “Wherever Kate goes, so does Charlotte.” That means she logs a lot of hours inside the 18th-century spread’s recently renovated kitchen. “Whenever the housekeeper or Kate are preparing food, Charlotte needs her own toy set by her side to imitate,” explains the family insider. Among her favorite options: sets of wooden toys from U.K. shop JoJo Maman Bébé and anything Disney princess; though, says the family friend, “I don’t think it’s quite dawned on her that she’s a princess herself.”

Everything Angelina Jolie And Brad Pitt Have Said About Their Divorce

Here’s a run-down of what both parties have actually said about their divorce.

September 20, 2016:
The Jolie-Pitts announce their divorce. Jolie first, through her lawyer, issues the following statement to the press:

“Angelina Jolie Pitt has filed for dissolution of the marriage. This decision was made for the health of the family. She will not be commenting at this time, and asks that the family be given their privacy during this difficult time.”

Pitt soon responds with his own statement, asking for privacy for the sake of their children: “I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the wellbeing of our kids.”

September 21, 2016:
Just a day after the world reels from their shock announcement, Jolie decides to release a second statement.

“Angelina will always do what’s in the best interest of taking care of her family,” her manager tells E! News. “She appreciates everyone’s understanding of their need for privacy at this time.”

September 27, 2016:
The first sighting of Pitt since the announcement is expected at a screening for The Voyage of Time–a documentary narrated by Pitt. However, the Troy actor decides against attending and issues the following statement:

I’m very grateful to be part of such a fascinating and educational project, but I’m currently focused on my family situation and don’t want to distract attention away from this extraordinary film, which I encourage everyone to see.

November 10, 2016:
The divorce takes a turn when it is revealed the FBI and Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services are investigating Pitt over an alleged altercation with one of their children. Both organizations soon cleared him of any wrongdoing. Jolie speaks about the situation for the first time since her initial statement.

“The job of the DCFS is to make sure the children are in a safe and secure situation,” a spokesperson on behalf of Jolie says. “As we said earlier this week, childcare professionals encouraged a legal agreement accepted and signed by both sides that was in the best interest of the children.

“Angelina said from the beginning that she felt she had to take action for the health of the family and is relieved that after their eight-week involvement, the DCFS is now satisfied the safeguards are put in place that will allow the children to heal.”

January 10, 2017:
Pitt and Jolie speak out in their first joint statement since announcing their divorce. The estranged couple announce all court documents relating to their divorce will be sealed from the public to protect their children.

“The parents are committed to act as a united front to effectuate recovery and reunification,” the statement continues, according to CNN.

February 20, 2017:
Jolie gives an emotional interview from Cambodia, where she is premiering her new film, and is asked directly about her family situation.

“It was a very difficult time,” she tells The BBC. “Many people find themselves in this situation. My whole family have all been through a difficult time. My focus is my children, our children.

“We are forever will be a family and so that is how I am coping. I am coping with finding a way through to make sure that this somehow makes us stronger and closer.”

May 3, 2017:
Pitt gives his version of events to GQ Style in a ground-breaking interview. He ranges from talking directly about the divorce to going to therapy and his drinking.

“It’s hit me smack in the face with our divorce: I gotta be more. I gotta be more for them [my children]. I have to show them. And I haven’t been great at it,” he says honestly.

He also insinuates that he and Jolie have reached a more peaceful place: “We’re both doing our best. I heard one lawyer say, ‘No one wins in court–it’s just a matter of who gets hurt worse’. And it seems to be true, you spend a year just focused on building a case to prove your point and why you’re right and why they’re wrong and it’s just an investment in vitriolic hatred. I just refuse. And fortunately my partner in this agrees. It’s just very, very jarring for the kids to suddenly have their family ripped apart.”

He also tells the writer to check out “Angie’s film,” First They Killed My Father, which is the only time he mentions her by name.

May 16, 2017:
Pitt goes a bit further by reassuring his fans he is doing okay in the wake of his public divorce.

“I’m not suicidal or something,” he tells the Associated Press. “There’s still much beauty in the world and a lot of love. And a lot of love to be given. It’s all right. It’s just life…kids are everything. Kids are your life. They’re taking all the focus as they should anyway.”

July 26, 2017:
Jolie’s Vanity Fair cover story is released. Although she appears reluctant to fully go into what caused their divorce, she does speak about how “things became difficult”.

“Things got bad…I didn’t want to use that word…Things became difficult,” she says. She denies that their traveling, large family lifestyle had anything to do with the divorce, too.

“[Our lifestyle] was not in any way negative. That was not the problem. That is and will remain one of the wonderful opportunities we are able to give our children.”

She goes on to also indicate she and Pitt have reached a more positive place as former partners and co-parents.

“We care for each other and care about our family and we are both working towards the same goal…I do not want my children to be worried about me. I think it’s very important to cry in the shower and not in front of them. They need to know that everything’s going to be all right even when you’re not.

Here Are 15 Photos Of Celebrities Stuffing Their Faces

Eating isn’t pretty. It just isn’t. Take a look at celebrities, some of the most vulnerable people when it comes to close-ups and unwanted photos of “ugly eating face.” Can you imagine attacking a burger head-on, only to hear the shutter of a camera (or three) in the background? It’s a terrible trap these famous faces fell prey to.  And, oh yeah, they will definitely make you feel way more self conscious about your own food plan of attack.

This Edible Pizza Bikini Is The Hottest Item Of The Summer

Pizza is, without a question, one of the best things in the world. We can argue over the toppings and the types, but everyone loves pizza. So much in fact, that someone thought it would be a great idea to design an edible pizza bikini, which can only be used for tanning and for a limited amount of time. Unless you don’t mind eating your pizza stale or with a side of salty beach water.

In honor of National Bikini Day, Villa Italian Kitchen located in New York city is crafting Pizzakinis of all shapes and sizes, made out of dough, 100% whole milk mozzarella cheese, pizza sauce made out of the freshest California tomatoes, and all the toppings of your choice. This sounds a little too good to be true, but it is a legitimate invention from a well regarded restaurant. The catch is that the Pizzakinis are worth 10,000 dollars.

According to Villa Italian Kitchen, the price of the bikini is due to all the work and time that’s put into the development of the suits. Each bikini needs to be made for the person who’s ordering it, so the restaurant chefs and tailors have to meet with the person, take their measurements and tailor each pizza to fit the shape of their body.

What are you waiting for? A lot of people think that this is the greatest thing ever made. A lot of people also think that Pizzakinis are really stupid.

Italy’s Ridiculous New Food Laws Will Screw Up Your Next Visit

No question, Italy is where many people go to experience amazing food and drink. Just ask Aziz Ansari. The second season of his hit Netflix show, Master of None, was set in Italy and was pretty much all about eating. It’s what you do there.

https://giphy.com/gifs/netflix-season-2-trailer-xTiIzkaoEcQZvpoBGg

But now, there are some pretty cranky rules in place that might make your culinary escape to this beautiful country a little less…filling.

Earlier this month, Milan banned food trucks along with  selfie sticks (“I bequeath my first born to your fine country.”  —  Everyone), street hawkers, and glass bottles. And if you’re thinking, “Eh, who cares about Milan. Rome is where it’s at!” here’s some sobering news: Rome’s mayor has banned booze from streets and piazzas on summer evenings.

That means while you are still allowed to toss your coins in the Trevi Fountain, you can no longer toss back a cold brew.”We don’t want the Roman summer evenings to be ruined by episodes linked to excessive consumption of alcohol,” said mayor Virginia Raggi, who imposed the ban from 10pm until 7am.

In June, Raggi also implemented a ban on eating and drinking by the city’s historic fountains.

According to The Local, eating and drinking is also forbidden at other historic and cultural sites, including the city’s Spanish Steps, where tourists are hit with a €900 fine for breaking the law (that’s more than $1,000).

Florence has also cracked down on tourists who choose to picnic at ancient landmarks. But, like, isn’t the entire country an ancient landmark?

And that’s not all. Reason.com reports that “a creeping food xenophobia also appears to be taking hold in the country.” Last year, “Florence imposed restrictions on so-called ‘foreign’ food from being sold in the historic city center. Fair Verona barred ‘ethnic’ foods. This year, Venice banned new fast food outlets, focusing in part on kebab shops, in order to preserve Italian ‘decorum and traditions.'”

So, there you have it. Italy: the country shaped like a boot that has kicked tourist eating habits to the curb.

Should California Start Its Own Bank For Marijuana Businesses?

Cannabis industry businesses and professionals face more challenges—due to legal restrictions and drug stigmas—than seen in any other marketplace in the United States. For a majority of Americans, the newly established marijuana industry is viewed simply as a hodge-podge of hippies and stoners looking to make a living whilst avoiding hard work and responsibility. At best, the cannabis space is seen as a modern day manifestation of 1920’s era bootleggers or 1980’s era “cocaine cowboys” where youthful, risk-taking outlaws make piles of cash while evading the standard trials and tribulations of the “real business world.” However, cannabis industry start-ups face all the trials seen in normal, mainstream business models plus the numerous trials intrinsic in a business environ that defies federal law.

One of the largest challenges that cannabis industry start-ups face has to do with banking and financing—as most banks avoid the industry due to federal stances on cannabis commerce. This largely because, banks cannot insure, on a federal level, funds or loans that are related to cannabis money (http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-public-bank-marijuana-20170727-htmlstory.html). Moreover, the more conspiratorially minded cannabis entrepreneurs feel that this regulated baking infrastructure only allows room for deep-pocketed, big businesses to succeed—as small businesses cannot take loans to finance their start-up phases. In a similar vein, these same small businesses have no place to protect their liquid assets, as they are forced to conduct all of their business in cash (http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-public-bank-marijuana-20170727-htmlstory.html).

As the state of California begins to flesh-out the challenges of their newly adopted recreational marijuana program (set to launch in 2018), they are proactively figuring out ways for cannabis industry start-ups to deal with federal banking issues (http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-public-bank-marijuana-20170727-htmlstory.html). To this end, Herb Wesson, whom serves as L.A. City Council President, has discussed the possibility of Los Angeles starting a public bank to handle cannabis business accounts. The benefits of state-run public banking in relationship to the cannabis industry are twofold: avoidance of federal regulation and control of tax revenue (http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-public-bank-marijuana-20170727-htmlstory.html). This is not to say that state-mandated public banks can wholly avoid the interference of the federal government when it comes to cannabis economics—but they can simply operate without anxieties concerning federal bank insurance (http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-public-bank-marijuana-20170727-htmlstory.html).

For small cannabis business and government entities alike in California, the promise of a functioning banking system surrounding marijuana commerce holds a great deal of potential. This is largely because, a state run bank allows California to have more control over its tax revenue—with tax monies being dived out to state programs as well as in the form of cannabis business loans (http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-public-bank-marijuana-20170727-htmlstory.html). For Californians, this means that a majority of cannabis taxes will remain within the state, going towards much needed government projects within schools and roads. Moreover, cannabis business can procure loans as well as protect their liquid assets within a bank.

The idea of a public, cannabis oriented banking system in California is not without its potential pitfalls and as well as criticisms (http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-public-bank-marijuana-20170727-htmlstory.html). These concerns arise mainly out of an inter-dependence of banking institutions on the Federal Reserve, whom can easily cripple California’s efforts by removing a public bank’s ability to transact with other financial bodies (http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-public-bank-marijuana-20170727-htmlstory.html).

Gossip: Steve Bannon Television Bio-Series Coming; Anderson Cooper’s Biggest Turn-On

Jason Blum’s Blumhouse Television, which has a high-profile Roger Ailes limited series in the works at Showtime, is taking on another controversial media titan, former Breitbart News topper Steve Bannon who is now President Donald Trump’s Chief Strategist.

Blumhouse TV, run by co-presidents Marci Wiseman and Jeremy Gold, has acquired the rights to Joshua Green’s newly released Devil’s Bargain: Steve Bannon, Donald Trump, and the Storming of the Presidency for TV development as a limited/event series.

Green, currently the senior national correspondent at Bloomberg Businessweek, will be involved in the development of the project, which will tell the inside story of the partnership between Bannon and Trump which led to the greatest political upset in U.S. history.

Andy Cohen Reveals Anderson Cooper’s Biggest Turn-On

Want to know what gets Anderson Cooper all hot and bothered?

The CNN host might be too shy to reveal the info on his own, but his BFF Andy Cohen wasn’t scared to spill the beans on a recent episode of Watch What Happens Live.

During a game on Tuesday night’s episode of the Bravo show, guest Olivia Wilde asked the guys questions about each other and they each had to answer at the same exact time.

When Wilde asked what Cooper’s biggest turn-on is, he quickly responded, “I’m not even gonna answer.”

Cohen, on the other hand, was more than willing to blurt out the truth: “Latinos!”
