What To Know Before Adding CBD To Your Tea

Winter weather is here and a nice cuppa tea is perfect on a cold day – and maybe if you added a little extra?

Globally, tea has been consumed for centuries, and for good reason. Numerous studies have shown that a variety of teas may boost your immune system, fight off inflammation, and even ward off cancer and heart disease.Tea is the second most consumed beverage in the world, bested only by water.

During busy times of year, tea both lifts you up and calm you.  With tea’s popularity and potential health benefits, it may be the perfect partner with CBD. Here is what to know before adding CBD to your tea. The answer depends on a variety of factors, including how the CBD is prepared, the type of tea, along with what’s added to the cup.

Black, oolong and green teas contain caffeine, which gives most people a bit of an energy boost, unlike CBD, which many people take for its calming effect. Tea infused with CBD may seem counterintuitive, but like cannabidiol’s relationship with THC, it could smooth out the jittery edge from caffeine while still providing a steady, anxiety-free energy boost.

Some CBD preparations are more soluble in tea than others. Cannabinoids, including CBD, are fat-soluble, and tea is typically brewed in water. Adding some cream or milk to tea will add a bit of fat, helping the compound dissolve. Of course, taking CBD separately, such as sublingually or in pill form, before drinking tea avoids any mixing issues or risk of leaving any CBD in the mug.

Powdered CBD supplements may be difficult to mix well in iced teas and is probably more wasteful than effective. A better approach would be to prepare or purchase a CBD infused simple syrup which sweetens the drink, blends well and delivers the compound effectively.

Herbal teas do not contain caffeine, but some herbs such as chamomile and lavender, provide effects similar to CBD, such as facilitating sleep and inducing a sense of calmness. Combining such herbs with cannabidiol is not only tasty and soothing, but they also lack the pesky side effects of popular sleep-aids, such as blacked-out tweeting.

Whatever way you take your tea, eating certain foods potentiates and makes an increased amount of CBD available for absorption. Studies have found patients who took their CBD with a breakfast burrito high in fat content saw a greater effect than those who took CBD on an empty stomach.

Crucial Cannabis Hacks For Surviving The Holiday Season

The holidays are filled with family, friends, crowds, bills and time for celebrations. It can be overwhelming, but we have some ideas

The holiday season can be wildly fun and it generally loved. The rituals from Thanksgiving to New Yearsl mark some of the important moments in our lives.  But all the joy and merriment can come with issues…bills, sluggishness, drama, anxiety, and more.  The good news is marijuana can help with the celebrating and the stress…here are crucial cannabis hacks for surviving the holiday season.

Have A Dedicated Supply

You never want to be the person sending frenzied text messages on the eve of a big holiday trying to track down a friend of a friend of a friend who may be able to hook you up. Instead, have a plan. If you don’t have a regular supply in your town, be sure to pack some goodies to go for the trip. Preparation is key.

Double Down On Storage Options

An important point to remember while staying at home is that you will be in close proximity to family members, friends, and pets who don’t necessarily normally smell the sweet, skunky aroma of quality cannabis on an everyday basis. As such, that celebratory joint you’re saving in your bag might set off a few olfactory alarms.

RELATED: How To Use Marijuana On The DL When You’re Home For The Holidays

In order to combat that, simply make sure you invest in the best possible storage option at your disposal to clamp down on the smell — a simple ziplock bag won’t always do the trick. Spring for something airtight, because if you don’t, you’ll be needing to throw open those windows and pray for a strong cross-breeze. When in doubt go for the old pill bottles, top off with a cotton ball, and store near some dryer sheets for some added smell protection.

Be Discreet, But Not Too Discreet

There’s an art to stepping away from a family function to enjoy a quick hit or two, but one of the greatest joys of these gatherings may be stumbling upon other members of the family who also partake.

Sure you knew cousin Phil would be happy to join you, but 78-year-old Betsy? Oh yeah, she’s been doing it since before you were born! So allow a beat or two to connect with family members you may have more in common with than you know.

Time Your High Accordingly

There are a number of factors that should go into your decision of when to actually spark up that green or throw back the edible. Timing is key for making sure the desired outcome is achieved. First you must know both yourself and your strain. Is it an indica or sativa? Do you typically get sleepy or talkative when you smoke?

RELATED: How To Use CBD To Reduce Holiday Stress

One stellar scenario could entail toking up as an appetizer to the festive holiday meal, but there’s also the equally satisfying option of capping off the night with a dessert hit. Either way, be intentional and you will surely come out satisfied.

Pull Out The Throwback Toys

“Bored,” you say? Impossible! If you’re home for the holidays there is surely a treasure trove of jigsaw puzzles, activity books, arts and crafts materials, and Legos lying around the house from your youth. Draw some inspiration from that Hindu Kush you packed before sitting down with some actual drawing utensils and watching the time fly by.

Be Smart About Where You Smoke

While you might be completely fine smoking in your front yard where you currently live in Colorado, traveling to your hometown can be a totally different story. Be smart about how open you are with your cannabis use in a town where there may be increased police presence for the holidays. Consider areas that are not open to public view if possible.

Don’t Leave Anything Behind

You may be tempted to leave some reserves behind for the next time you’re in town, but depending on who else is living in that house, it might not be your best idea. Do you really want a call from mom or day wondering what “THC” stands for three weeks later? That’s what we thought.

Does CBD Oil Cause Withdrawals

CBD has become increasing used to treat a variety of things….but what happens if you suddenly quit?  Are there downsides?

CBD has been a hot, over the counter treatment for a variety of ailments. Sold at Walmart, Amazon, and other mainstream retailers, it is everywhere.  Science has indicted it has a beneficial impact on pain, anxiety, and depression symptoms as well as overall wellbeing for  patients with moderate to severe symptoms.  But what if you suddenly stop? Does CBD oil cause withdrawals?  Should you be concerned?

Most medicines with a psychoactive effect alter the brain’s chemistry, making it likely for them to produce symptoms of withdrawal. Although the word psychoactive isn’t generally associated with CBD, the compound does affect the brain, interacting with its cannabinoids in order to manage mood disorders, seizures and cognitive functioning.

Studies and research conducted on the compound are still be studied, with few exploring the long term effects of  using the compound regularly. According to some experts, one of the most promising aspects of CBD is the fact it could help users cope with symptoms of withdrawal from other drugs.

One study found rats with cocaine and alcohol addiction were less likely to relapse when given CBD. “This was true even when the rats were placed in circumstances designed to increase their stress and anxiety levels — a known trigger for relapse in humans,” concludes the study, published in the journal Neuropsychopharmacology.

As for the withdrawal symptoms produced by CBD, there’s not enough information out there to make an educated guess or to know what the withdrawal symptoms would even look like.

Personal blogs indicate when users stop using CBD, the original symptoms  treated return, prompting people to wonder if they’ll have to consume the oil for the rest of their lives. But these situations are highly dependent on the person and the ailment treated.

Data is clear, no matter how much CBD oil you ingest, there won’t be any physical or stereotypical symptoms of withdrawal.

Why You Get The Drunchies After Drinking

After a night of drinking, Taco Bell, pizza or whatever is leftover in the fridge looks amazing and finds it way into your belly. Late night eating post partying ,whether it is  from fast fridge or from your own kitchen, seems so good.  But why do you get the Drunkies after drinking?Marijuana has the myth for inciting munchies, but alcohol is just as common, if not more so.

The Fresh Toast – Post partying, Taco Bell sounds so good – here is why ou the drunchies after drinking

Like the munchies you get after smoking weed, the drunchies are characterized by a craving for calorie dense foods, like pizza, tacos, nachos…things which sit on your bell.

Because obesity is a concern here in America, researchers from the University of Buffalo decided to study the effects of the drunchies on college weight gain, examining what they eat at night and the next morning when they’re hungover.

RELATED: Rainy Weather Cocktails

“Given the obesity epidemic and the rates of alcohol consumption on college campuses, we need to be aware of not only the negative effect of alcohol consumption, but also the impact it has on what people are eating while they are drinking,” said Jessica Kruger, clinical assistant professor of community health and health behavior in the University at Buffalo’s School of Public Health and Health Professions.

Related: Can You Prevent A Hangover By Eating A Big Meal?

Kruger is the lead author on a new study published in the Californian Journal of Health Promotion that examined 286  coeds to find out the relationship between their drinking and consecutive eating habits.

“All alcohol drinkers were more likely to eat something before they went to bed after drinking alcohol than in general before they go to bed,” Kruger and her colleagues wrote.

https://giphy.com/gifs/thegoodplace-season-1-xUOxfaABfkwPSJ5M6A

Predictably, they were drawn to junk food over healthier options. Also, in addition to healthy food choices, they skipped drinking water or other non-alcohol beverages before bed, which lead to even greater dehydration.

As for the next morning, according to the University of Buffalo, the students were less likely to skip meals after a night of drinking compared to a typical morning.

Related: How To Control The Marijuana Munchies

So what exactly creates the drunchies in the first place? “It is believed that after drinking alcohol, the amount of blood glucose in the body can rise and fall which stimulates the brain to feel hungry,” Kruger explains.

You’ve heard it before, kids. For every alcoholic beverage you drink, consume twice as much water. And try to eat a large healthy meal before you imbibe to help soak up the alcohol (yes, it actually works). Otherwise, you’re going to find yourself in starvation mode with a killer hangover the next morning. Eating and hydrating may not ward off a hangover (and the munchies) completely, but it will certainly help.

What Happens If You’re Caught Flying With Weed

0

It is the most wonderful, wait, traveling time of the year….but what happens if they discover you’re bought a little treat?

Nearly half the country plans to travel between Thanksgiving and the middle of January, according to the 2023 Deloitte Holiday Travel Survey. “Revenge travel” may be fading but in its place, the recent restricted years seem to leave behind a legacy of enthusiasm for exploration. Among the 5% of Americans planning international trips, a greater number intend to visit South America and Asia, although the Caribbean, Mexico, and Europe remain the most popular destinations.

While over 50% of the people live in places where cannabis is legal, the US, unlike Canada, is firm is still federally illegal.  As such, the federal agency, Travel Security Administration’s (TSA) stance remains clear of it is a no-go.

“Marijuana and certain cannabis-infused products, including some Cannabidiol (CBD) oil, remain illegal under federal law except for products that contain no more than 0.3 percent THC on a dry weight basis or that are approved by FDA,” according to TSA’s website.

However, flying with small amounts of marijuana is happening daily becaue TSA officers are not explicitly looking for marijuana.

“TSA’s screening procedures are focused on security and are designed to detect potential threats to aviation and passengers,” TSA says.

“If any illegal substance is discovered during security screening, TSA will refer the matter to a law enforcement officer,” the agency continues.

“Airport law enforcement will be notified if marijuana is discovered by a TSA officer during the security screening process of carry-on and checked baggage,” TSA spokesperson Lorie Dankers wrote in an email to SFGATE. “Law enforcement officials will determine whether to initiate a criminal investigation or what steps — if any — will be taken.”

But, in most cases, airport security won’t report those carrying small amounts of weed.

Neil Hallinan, a San Francisco-based criminal defense attorney, told SFGATE that such arrests would be a waste of law enforcement resources.

“Is it illegal to carry it through security? The short answer is yes, on the federal level it is,” Hallinan said. “But is it the kind of thing that the federal government wants to expend resources to enforce? No.”

Walmart Has Marijuana Competition On Black Friday

0

Walmart, Malls, Best Buy and more are thought of for Black Friday – but marijuana is having an impact also.

Black Friday used to be one of the biggest shopping days of the year…now it has a rival with Cyber Monday. There was a time when the news was filled with brawls breaking out at Walmart as people scrambled to get the best big ticket deals.  Luckily, weed chills you and Walmart has marijuana competition on Black Friday.

To be fair, Black Friday is the second biggest marijuana shopping day of the year….behind 4/20.  BDSA, a leading cannabis data analyst company shared this information about consumer trends.

Black Friday is the Friday after Thanksgiving in the United States. It traditionally marks the start of the Christmas shopping season in the United States. Many stores offer highly promoted sales at discounted prices and often open early. It has been a culturally phenomenon in some countries.

Despite all the buzz, Black Friday beats out Cyber Monday and is still the biggest shopping day of the year. It can set the tone of retail for the holiday season and annually retail profitability. But as more than 50% of people have access to legalized cannabis, Black Friday has become a weed hit also. Like alcohol, the 4 day holiday weekend has turned into tuning in to fun or turning out and chilling.

“Black Friday consistently experience the highest surge in cannabis sales of any holiday, other than 420,” said Brendan Mitchel-Chesebro, analyst at BDSA. “These insights are important for retailers looking to optimize their holiday strategies. By preparing for increased foot traffic with increased staff and an ample supply of popular products instead of leaning into promotions, retailers will win with consumers this holiday season.”

Some dispensaries, will have specials, especially those who register for newsletter and updates.  Check their social media or website to see if they are offering any holiday weekend.

And if you are looking at doing some early gift shoppings, gummies are the most popular used form of cannabis, making it an easy gift to the canna-fans in your life.

The other good news is cannabis relaxes us so you don’t have to worry about hand to hand combat to purchase.  But here are some of the craziest Black Friday stories.

An elderly woman stole an ice cream maker out of a man in a wheelchair’s electric cart.”

At Walmart, a fight broke out over a bike. Fists were thrown and there was  blood. Eventually, one guy got ahold of the bike and managed to get away from the crowd. He rode the bike out of the store (without paying).”

At Walmart, a customer punched a security guard in the face because they thought he was a customer skipping to the front of the line. He was just walking in the door to start his shift.

Can Marijuana Help A Post-Thanksgiving Detox

0

After the indulgence of Thanksgiving – you and your body might be looking to take a break.  Can marijuana help?

Copious amounts of carb-heavy food and washed down with all sorts of drink can leave you in in a drowsy state while you body keeps processing everything. The holiday starts on Friday and there are celebration to come.  Maybe the the week after Thanksgiving is time to provide your body with a reset, taking a break from all things turkey and alcohol — at least until holiday parties kick in. Can marijuana help a post-Thanksgiving detox.

Detoxing is best approached with a light attitude, not as something you do to lose weight, but to give your body a break, the chance to ingest something healthy, regulating your digestive system and your mood.

Kristen Williams, one of the authors of “Coming Clean With Cannabis,” a cannabis cleanse guide. She explained some of the plant’s features and why it can help you get your cleanse on. “Cannabis enhances the endocannabinoid system, which keeps our bodies in a balanced state,” she said. These findings are supported by a variety of studies that link the endocannabinoid system to stress, sleep and gut health.

This imbalance between free radicals and antioxidants is called oxidative stress, and is something that cannabis is known to battle. Like other detox ingredients, THC, an important antioxidant, reduces this stress. When consumed as an edible or a tincture, the results should be magnified, especially since you’re not introducing other toxins like smoke and vapor to mess with your detoxification process.

There’s also CBD. While the compound has little research behind it, CBD has been shown to reduce inflammation and promote cardiovascular health, aspects that could be beneficial when applied to a detox.

Detox practices vary from person to person, with some choosing more extreme measures than others. While some detoxes have earned a muddy reputation, a sensible detox that eliminates alcohol, smoking, and foods loaded up with fats while promoting exercise, drinking water and eating healthy foods can only lead to good results.

By adding some weed in the mix, you might maximize these benefits and have an easier time while you detox. At the very least, you’ll have some fun.

Die Hard

What more can you say? This classic is the perfect way to tie together Thanksgiving and Christmas.

The Safe Choices

  • Moana: An animated film that’s comfortable and reassuring in its familiarity, but does enough differently to delight you.
  • Rogue One: The best war movie this year, and darkest Star Wars entry since The Empire Strikes Back
  • Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: You’re straggling if you haven’t seen this yet, but it’s a pleasant return to Rowling’s Wizarding World

The Space Explorers

  • Arrival: A film of the year, serious Oscar contender, and a reminder once again how incredible Amy Adams is
  • Passengers: While it’s receiving a bashing critically—it isn’t as bad as its Rotten Tomatoes score indicates—but also has old friends Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt doing J Law and Pratt things

  • Silence: Martin Scorsese’s 3-hour epic based on Shūsaku Endō’s 1966 novel that really goes for it with its epic subject matter and performances
  • La La Land: Reviving old-school musicals with endearing performances by Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone. Be prepared for singing and dancing.
  • Jackie: The history biopic that should have “Natalie Portman really wants an Oscar” as its tagline. If high-minded actor vehicles are your thing, this is your movie.
  • Paterson: Adam Driver stars as bus driver named Paterson living in Paterson, New Jersey. A classic Jim Jarmusch people just hanging out movie. It’s great, according to our wonderful photo editor.

The Denzel Washington Movie

  • Fences: Tour-de-force performances by Denzel Washington and Viola Davis, which is exactly what you want.

The Funnies

  • Office Christmas Party: Its actors seem tired and not really interested in the movie, but it has enough bits to please.
  • Why Him? James Franco and Bryan Cranston battling it out for the love of a daughter. In a bizarro world, this is a Breaking Bad spin-off. Instead it’s a formulaic laughie.

What To Drink When Bloated After Thanksgiving

It’s super easy to eat more than you should during Thanksgiving. Here are drinks which can provide some relief.

Concluding a Thanksgiving meal without feeling like you’ll have to roll away from the table is an anomaly of sorts. There’s no American meal more proud of the fact it leads to overeating than this one. It’s a habit very likely to continue, even if you want to stay healthy or avoid feeling like crap afterwards.

Aside from the dinner part of Thanksgiving, this holiday is also filled with tons of eating and drinking throughout the day. By the time you sit down to eat, you’re probably already well on your way to being full.

Here is what to drink when bloated after Thanksgiving, alcoholic and non-alcoholic.  You can drink these after dinner (or even throughout your day) so your belly will feel grateful.

Digestifs

These herbal drinks — such amaros, fortified wines, and brandies — are super popular in Europe, allowing people to eat several meals and not feel like crap afterwards. These post-dinner drinks tend to contain herbs which have a bitter taste and target bloating, gas, inflammation and can even help manage acid reflux.

“With holiday meals, we all typically walk away from the table having eaten too much and feeling this bloated effect. The carminative herbs in a lot of digestifs will help reduce some of bloating and calm the nervous system around the stomach and help reduce some of those yucky symptoms we have,” herbalist Heidi Lyndaker told Huffington Post.

Gin, vodka or tequila

If you’re planning to do some day drinking during Thanksgiving, your best options are gin, vodka or tequila. You’ll of course want to pace yourself if you want to make it through dinner, but these drinks have been through a distillation process over fermentation. They will irritate your gut less than other drinks, which irritate your stomach lining, causing more bloating, gas and an overall feeling of discomfort in your gut.

Green Tea

Sometimes you have to pull out the big guns and let go of the alcohol, which is where tea and infused waters come in. Green tea is known for boosting your metabolism and acting like a prebiotic, meaning it encourages the growth of good bacteria in your gut.
