Women Who Share Their Bed With A Dog Get The Best Sleep

Turns out man’s best friend provides a HUGE benefit for women!

Dogs are the number one pet with over 25% of the global population having owned a dog at some point. In fact Argentina (82%), Mexico (81%) and Brazil (76%) have the highest rates of pet ownership – with dogs being at the top of the list.  Bet did you know data has shown it seems women who share their bed with a dog get the best sleep.

There are multiple benefits not only. do they provide companionship, they provide other benefits.  Dogs keep you active, help you become calmer and make you more social.  The improve the lives of kids and older individuals.  A portion of pet owners sleep with their pets. Exploring the realm of sleep and pet owners,  researchers to discover the data if it has effects on humans.

Scientists from Canisius College in Buffalo, New York found the answer, publishing their findings in Anthrozoös, a journal studying human-animal interactions. While it’s known sleeping next to humans provides some positive and negative effects, much less is known about the benefits and hazards of sleeping with your pet. Until now.

The researchers surveyed over 962 women who reside in the U.S., gathering data on their sleeping patterns and partners, specifically looking for information regarding the relationship between pet ownership and sleep. More than half, 57 percent, of participants slept with humans, 55 percent of them with dogs, and 31 percent of them with cats. Dog owners demonstrated earlier bed times and earlier wake up times, surprising everyone but dog owners, because we’ve all been awoken by a stray paw in the face just before your alarm clock rings.

Compared to human partners, dogs provided more security and comfort, and also disturbed women less as they slept. Sorry boyfriends and girlfriends, dogs are cuter and also quiet. Cats got the worst end of the deal, with the study finding them just as disruptive as human partners and less comforting than any other companion.

Science now supports the fact that there are no better cuddlers than a sleepy dog. Dog owners have known this all along, now they just have the chance to show it off to their germaphobe friends, proving to them that there’s a reason why they’re always covered in hair.

CBD, Intermittent Fasting And Weight Loss

Intermittent fasting is a popular way of staying in shape. Here’s how CBD can help the process.

Some people struggle with weight loss and are looking for a silver bullet.  Currently, the trend is Ozempic®.  The traditional way eating less and moving more is the best, for for some, they need additional help. Intermittent fasting is an eating plan which switches between fasting and eating on a regular schedule. Research shows intermittent fasting is a way for some to manage weight.

RELATED: Marijuana For A Lean Physique? Science Weighs In

Before diving into the reasons why CBD’s capabilities might make for better fasts and might help manage people’s hunger, it’s important to understand what the fasting process is about and why it’s been so embraced as of late.

We’ll focus on the most popular and common methods: the 18/6, 16/8, and Eat-Stop-Eat. In the first method, 18 represents the hours spent fasting, and 6 represents your eating window. By following the 18/6 you’ll spend 18 hours fasting and have a window of 6 hours to get your necessary calories. The 16/8 is the same thing, with slightly different windows for each. For some people, this method works perfectly since all they have to do is avoid snacks past their bedtime and either skip breakfast or eat it later in the morning.

For those who are stronger willed, there’s the Eat-Stop-Eat method, which is a little more extreme, increasing the amount of time you spend fasting and the amount of time you have to eat. People can spend 24 hours without eating, only ingesting liquids without calories, like coffee and tea, and then have a day to eat with no limitations. Then they get back to fasting and so on and so forth. This method produces more effective intermittent fasting results, preserving lean muscle mass, promoting hormone levels and cutting calories.

Intermittent fasting is built upon the knowledge once the body spends over 16 hours without eating, it automatically begins to break down fat as a replacement for glucose. This is a process called ketosis. Aside from burning fat, ketosis also makes your body work harder to repair damaged DNA and replace old cells, some of which have been correlated with Alzheimer’s disease. There’s a lot of promise for fasting and a lot of good stuff associated with it.

CBD may enhance the fasting process by reducing your appetite, contributing with hormone regulation, fighting inflammation and even preventing diabetes. While THC is known for increasing people’s hunger, CBD doesn’t share these same capabilities. Most of the time, people eat when they’re bored or anxious; CBD makes for a good option for these types of people, keeping their brains focused and relaxed and preventing snacking.

CBD also boosts the health capabilities of fasting, producing larger and more impacting results. CBD can be consumed as oils, topicals or capsules while fasting – as long as these don’t have calories – or as edibles once people have broken their fasts.

While there’s no studies proving CBD oil makes for better fasts, the evidence exists suggesting it might help people who have a hard time wrapping their heads around such a long period of time spent without eating. In any case, it sounds like a good supplement if you’re looking to give intermittent fasting a shot.

NYC Puts Landlords On Hook For Unlicensed Weed Dispensaries

With 1,500+ illegal weed shops in NYC – officials turns to others to manage the problem.

New York went fully recreational weed in March 2021 and in September there were23 legal dispensaries open across the state, with only nine in New York City. The New York City’s Independent Budget Office determined an estimated 1,500 unlicensed retailers in the city alone. And those stores have almost a half of a billion dollars in products – both legal and illegal.

Since the chaotic rollout of recreational marijuana in New York State, NYC has struggled with unlicensed dispensaries.  The epidemic of illegal sellers has presented all kinds of challenges – including, as one State Senator noted, a very real public health concern – law enforcement and regulators have struggled to implement effective policy solutions to this very real problem.  Now the city has decided to share the pain with landlords both big and small.

RELATED: Unlicensed Shops in NYC Are Doing Better Than The Naked Cowboy In July, with unlicensed retailers blocks from city hall, the Council passed a law which might help turn the tide in the fight against illicit cannabis retailers.  It was passed onto landlords, forcing them to be partners with the law enforcement.

The law firm Feuerstein Kulick, a leader in the cannabis space, shares “Local Law 107 prohibits property owners from knowingly leasing commercial space to unlicensed sellers of cannabis or tobacco products. The law imposes a tiered fine structure: owners first get a written notice of the violation. Owners have 15 days to appeal the written notice, which constitutes presumptive evidence that the owner has violated the law if the appeal is unsuccessful. Upon a subsequent inspection and violation, the owner is subject to a $5,000 civil penalty, and a $10,000 penalty for each subsequent violation. Interestingly, evidence that the owner attempted, in good faith, to evict the unlicensed vendor serves as an affirmative defense to the penalty. ”

It has been estimated there is one unlicensed dispensary for every 10 restaurants in NYC.  The failed rollout has had a big impact on the overall cannabis industry.  Forcing a nearly billion dollar market into the black market has an over effect on regional growers, product manufactures and affiliate industries. The retailers do not pay taxes, so the state is losing massive amounts of revenue and the businesses operate in a free for all.

As the situation continues to balloon, the state seems to be focused more on closing illegal operations as opposed to helping legal businesses open and respond to a proven robust market.

Does Holding It In When Consuming Weed Make A Difference

Flower and Vaping are still popular, but do you know this key piece of information for your high?

Marijuana has mainstreamed and with it, there is a whole bunch of new users.  While flower is still popular, vaping and gummies have come in fast for being big with consumers.  With an influx of canna-newbies, some myths are still lingers.  Here is the answer to does holding it in when consuming weed make a difference.

How Your Lungs Work

Whether you’re inhaling smoke from a joint, a pipe, or a bong, the lungs react in the same way as when breathing. Lungs expand and pick up oxygen. In the case of breathing in cannabis, they pick up on THC and deliver it to your alveoli (the little sacs of air in your lungs). The THC is then passed on to your bloodstream, where it will be delivered to different areas of the body, getting you high in the process. It’s a relatively quick succession of events, resulting in people feeling high within minutes.

When it comes to how long you hold in the THC or how much you cough, the effect remains the same. It takes approximately 3 seconds for the THC to make its way through your body. So the myth of holding in your high is not supported by science.

Why You Feel Lightheaded

While you’re not making the cannabis affect you more by holding in the smoke, you are depriving your brain of oxygen and accelerating your heart rate. This process will make you feel lightheaded, which might contribute to feeling higher, at least for a couple of seconds as your body takes a minute to rebalance itself. Still, holding in your breath is not an effective way of getting more high.

If you’re interested in finding a more efficient way to get high, there are several things you could try. A new method of cannabis, whether an edible or smoking from a vape or a bong, might kickstart your body’s relationship with the drug, getting you higher in the meantime. You can also try adding some kief to your joints or bowl, adding more trichomes in the mix, and producing stronger experiences.

What To Know Before Adding CBD To Your Tea

Winter weather is here and a nice cuppa tea is perfect on a cold day – and maybe if you added a little extra?

Globally, tea has been consumed for centuries, and for good reason. Numerous studies have shown that a variety of teas may boost your immune system, fight off inflammation, and even ward off cancer and heart disease.Tea is the second most consumed beverage in the world, bested only by water.

During busy times of year, tea both lifts you up and calm you.  With tea’s popularity and potential health benefits, it may be the perfect partner with CBD. Here is what to know before adding CBD to your tea. The answer depends on a variety of factors, including how the CBD is prepared, the type of tea, along with what’s added to the cup.

Black, oolong and green teas contain caffeine, which gives most people a bit of an energy boost, unlike CBD, which many people take for its calming effect. Tea infused with CBD may seem counterintuitive, but like cannabidiol’s relationship with THC, it could smooth out the jittery edge from caffeine while still providing a steady, anxiety-free energy boost.

Some CBD preparations are more soluble in tea than others. Cannabinoids, including CBD, are fat-soluble, and tea is typically brewed in water. Adding some cream or milk to tea will add a bit of fat, helping the compound dissolve. Of course, taking CBD separately, such as sublingually or in pill form, before drinking tea avoids any mixing issues or risk of leaving any CBD in the mug.

Powdered CBD supplements may be difficult to mix well in iced teas and is probably more wasteful than effective. A better approach would be to prepare or purchase a CBD infused simple syrup which sweetens the drink, blends well and delivers the compound effectively.

Herbal teas do not contain caffeine, but some herbs such as chamomile and lavender, provide effects similar to CBD, such as facilitating sleep and inducing a sense of calmness. Combining such herbs with cannabidiol is not only tasty and soothing, but they also lack the pesky side effects of popular sleep-aids, such as blacked-out tweeting.

Whatever way you take your tea, eating certain foods potentiates and makes an increased amount of CBD available for absorption. Studies have found patients who took their CBD with a breakfast burrito high in fat content saw a greater effect than those who took CBD on an empty stomach.

Crucial Cannabis Hacks For Surviving The Holiday Season

The holidays are filled with family, friends, crowds, bills and time for celebrations. It can be overwhelming, but we have some ideas

The holiday season can be wildly fun and it generally loved. The rituals from Thanksgiving to New Yearsl mark some of the important moments in our lives.  But all the joy and merriment can come with issues…bills, sluggishness, drama, anxiety, and more.  The good news is marijuana can help with the celebrating and the stress…here are crucial cannabis hacks for surviving the holiday season.

Have A Dedicated Supply

You never want to be the person sending frenzied text messages on the eve of a big holiday trying to track down a friend of a friend of a friend who may be able to hook you up. Instead, have a plan. If you don’t have a regular supply in your town, be sure to pack some goodies to go for the trip. Preparation is key.

Double Down On Storage Options

An important point to remember while staying at home is that you will be in close proximity to family members, friends, and pets who don’t necessarily normally smell the sweet, skunky aroma of quality cannabis on an everyday basis. As such, that celebratory joint you’re saving in your bag might set off a few olfactory alarms.

RELATED: How To Use Marijuana On The DL When You’re Home For The Holidays

In order to combat that, simply make sure you invest in the best possible storage option at your disposal to clamp down on the smell — a simple ziplock bag won’t always do the trick. Spring for something airtight, because if you don’t, you’ll be needing to throw open those windows and pray for a strong cross-breeze. When in doubt go for the old pill bottles, top off with a cotton ball, and store near some dryer sheets for some added smell protection.

Be Discreet, But Not Too Discreet

There’s an art to stepping away from a family function to enjoy a quick hit or two, but one of the greatest joys of these gatherings may be stumbling upon other members of the family who also partake.

Sure you knew cousin Phil would be happy to join you, but 78-year-old Betsy? Oh yeah, she’s been doing it since before you were born! So allow a beat or two to connect with family members you may have more in common with than you know.

Time Your High Accordingly

There are a number of factors that should go into your decision of when to actually spark up that green or throw back the edible. Timing is key for making sure the desired outcome is achieved. First you must know both yourself and your strain. Is it an indica or sativa? Do you typically get sleepy or talkative when you smoke?

One stellar scenario could entail toking up as an appetizer to the festive holiday meal, but there’s also the equally satisfying option of capping off the night with a dessert hit. Either way, be intentional and you will surely come out satisfied.

Pull Out The Throwback Toys

“Bored,” you say? Impossible! If you’re home for the holidays there is surely a treasure trove of jigsaw puzzles, activity books, arts and crafts materials, and Legos lying around the house from your youth. Draw some inspiration from that Hindu Kush you packed before sitting down with some actual drawing utensils and watching the time fly by.

Be Smart About Where You Smoke

While you might be completely fine smoking in your front yard where you currently live in Colorado, traveling to your hometown can be a totally different story. Be smart about how open you are with your cannabis use in a town where there may be increased police presence for the holidays. Consider areas that are not open to public view if possible.

Don’t Leave Anything Behind

You may be tempted to leave some reserves behind for the next time you’re in town, but depending on who else is living in that house, it might not be your best idea. Do you really want a call from mom or day wondering what “THC” stands for three weeks later? That’s what we thought.

Does CBD Oil Cause Withdrawals

CBD has become increasing used to treat a variety of things….but what happens if you suddenly quit?  Are there downsides?

CBD has been a hot, over the counter treatment for a variety of ailments. Sold at Walmart, Amazon, and other mainstream retailers, it is everywhere.  Science has indicted it has a beneficial impact on pain, anxiety, and depression symptoms as well as overall wellbeing for  patients with moderate to severe symptoms.  But what if you suddenly stop? Does CBD oil cause withdrawals?  Should you be concerned?

Most medicines with a psychoactive effect alter the brain’s chemistry, making it likely for them to produce symptoms of withdrawal. Although the word psychoactive isn’t generally associated with CBD, the compound does affect the brain, interacting with its cannabinoids in order to manage mood disorders, seizures and cognitive functioning.

Studies and research conducted on the compound are still be studied, with few exploring the long term effects of  using the compound regularly. According to some experts, one of the most promising aspects of CBD is the fact it could help users cope with symptoms of withdrawal from other drugs.

One study found rats with cocaine and alcohol addiction were less likely to relapse when given CBD. “This was true even when the rats were placed in circumstances designed to increase their stress and anxiety levels — a known trigger for relapse in humans,” concludes the study, published in the journal Neuropsychopharmacology.

As for the withdrawal symptoms produced by CBD, there’s not enough information out there to make an educated guess or to know what the withdrawal symptoms would even look like.

Personal blogs indicate when users stop using CBD, the original symptoms  treated return, prompting people to wonder if they’ll have to consume the oil for the rest of their lives. But these situations are highly dependent on the person and the ailment treated.

Data is clear, no matter how much CBD oil you ingest, there won’t be any physical or stereotypical symptoms of withdrawal.

Why You Get The Drunchies After Drinking

After a night of drinking, Taco Bell, pizza or whatever is leftover in the fridge looks amazing and finds it way into your belly. Late night eating post partying ,whether it is  from fast fridge or from your own kitchen, seems so good.  But why do you get the Drunkies after drinking?Marijuana has the myth for inciting munchies, but alcohol is just as common, if not more so.

The Fresh Toast – Post partying, Taco Bell sounds so good – here is why ou the drunchies after drinking

Like the munchies you get after smoking weed, the drunchies are characterized by a craving for calorie dense foods, like pizza, tacos, nachos…things which sit on your bell.

Because obesity is a concern here in America, researchers from the University of Buffalo decided to study the effects of the drunchies on college weight gain, examining what they eat at night and the next morning when they’re hungover.

RELATED: Rainy Weather Cocktails

“Given the obesity epidemic and the rates of alcohol consumption on college campuses, we need to be aware of not only the negative effect of alcohol consumption, but also the impact it has on what people are eating while they are drinking,” said Jessica Kruger, clinical assistant professor of community health and health behavior in the University at Buffalo’s School of Public Health and Health Professions.

Related: Can You Prevent A Hangover By Eating A Big Meal?

Kruger is the lead author on a new study published in the Californian Journal of Health Promotion that examined 286  coeds to find out the relationship between their drinking and consecutive eating habits.

“All alcohol drinkers were more likely to eat something before they went to bed after drinking alcohol than in general before they go to bed,” Kruger and her colleagues wrote.

https://giphy.com/gifs/thegoodplace-season-1-xUOxfaABfkwPSJ5M6A

Predictably, they were drawn to junk food over healthier options. Also, in addition to healthy food choices, they skipped drinking water or other non-alcohol beverages before bed, which lead to even greater dehydration.

As for the next morning, according to the University of Buffalo, the students were less likely to skip meals after a night of drinking compared to a typical morning.

Related: How To Control The Marijuana Munchies

So what exactly creates the drunchies in the first place? “It is believed that after drinking alcohol, the amount of blood glucose in the body can rise and fall which stimulates the brain to feel hungry,” Kruger explains.

You’ve heard it before, kids. For every alcoholic beverage you drink, consume twice as much water. And try to eat a large healthy meal before you imbibe to help soak up the alcohol (yes, it actually works). Otherwise, you’re going to find yourself in starvation mode with a killer hangover the next morning. Eating and hydrating may not ward off a hangover (and the munchies) completely, but it will certainly help.

What Happens If You’re Caught Flying With Weed

0

It is the most wonderful, wait, traveling time of the year….but what happens if they discover you’re bought a little treat?

Nearly half the country plans to travel between Thanksgiving and the middle of January, according to the 2023 Deloitte Holiday Travel Survey. “Revenge travel” may be fading but in its place, the recent restricted years seem to leave behind a legacy of enthusiasm for exploration. Among the 5% of Americans planning international trips, a greater number intend to visit South America and Asia, although the Caribbean, Mexico, and Europe remain the most popular destinations.

While over 50% of the people live in places where cannabis is legal, the US, unlike Canada, is firm is still federally illegal.  As such, the federal agency, Travel Security Administration’s (TSA) stance remains clear of it is a no-go.

“Marijuana and certain cannabis-infused products, including some Cannabidiol (CBD) oil, remain illegal under federal law except for products that contain no more than 0.3 percent THC on a dry weight basis or that are approved by FDA,” according to TSA’s website.

However, flying with small amounts of marijuana is happening daily becaue TSA officers are not explicitly looking for marijuana.

“TSA’s screening procedures are focused on security and are designed to detect potential threats to aviation and passengers,” TSA says.

“If any illegal substance is discovered during security screening, TSA will refer the matter to a law enforcement officer,” the agency continues.

“Airport law enforcement will be notified if marijuana is discovered by a TSA officer during the security screening process of carry-on and checked baggage,” TSA spokesperson Lorie Dankers wrote in an email to SFGATE. “Law enforcement officials will determine whether to initiate a criminal investigation or what steps — if any — will be taken.”

But, in most cases, airport security won’t report those carrying small amounts of weed.

Neil Hallinan, a San Francisco-based criminal defense attorney, told SFGATE that such arrests would be a waste of law enforcement resources.

“Is it illegal to carry it through security? The short answer is yes, on the federal level it is,” Hallinan said. “But is it the kind of thing that the federal government wants to expend resources to enforce? No.”
