How To Manage When Only One Partner Likes Weed

0

Dating someone who doesn’t share your opinions on cannabis can be complicated. Here’s how to navigate the situation.

We’re all different people, which is what makes dating so fun and complicated. While surrounding yourself with people who share similar beliefs is great and validating, it’s also important to spend time with someone who may share your views on the important stuff, but also provide different opinions and arguments that you might be blind to.

An aspect that can be challenging for any relationship is having differing opinions on major lifestyle choices. Marijuana is one of these hot button subjects, especially if you or the person you’re dating has strong opinions on the matter.

Here’s what you can do if you like to smoke weed and the person you’re dating doesn’t:

Respect their opinions

While it’d be great if you guys could smoke a joint together and go out for a delicious and hilarious meal, if the person you’re dating doesn’t want to smoke, you can’t force them. You may want to explain your point of view and list out the reasons why you enjoy it, but, at the end of the day they will do what they want to do. You get more points for respecting their space and their decisions than by trying to prove that you’re right.

Stand your ground

At the same time, it’s equally important to stand your ground and not hide who you are because the person you’re dating thinks differently. This advice is not only limited to marijuana, since it’s important to hold on to your individuality whenever you’re entering a new relationship. Find some middle ground and moments where you can enjoy your habit without disturbing your partner’s day to day life.

Compromise

Compromise can appear in many ways, by either consuming on days when you’re apart, trying out non-intoxicating strains or indulging on special occasions and having your partner understand why you’re doing it. If the smoke is the issue, there are plenty of other less invasive options to choose from. The most important part here is to communicate.

5 Last Minute Gift Ideas For Valentine’s Day

0

Valentine’s Day has a way of sneaking up on you. Here are some last minute gift ideas that will score you points.

For some reason, before we’ve even taken down our Christmas trees, we’re harassed by teddy bears holding hearts and pink boxes of chocolate in just about every store we walk into. And restaurants aren’t shy about promoting special dinners for two before we’ve even started our New Year’s regimen.

Still, despite all the reminders, we sometimes wait until the last minute to buy our presents, which is a bad idea, but we still do it anyway.

No matter how close you’re cutting it, there’s always time to pick something up that’s simple and that will remind your partner that you still like them. At least on this specific day.

Here are 5 last-minute gift ideas for Valentine’s Day:

Candles are a great option for many occasions, including Valentine’s Day. Of course, you have to know your audience here. If your partner isn’t big on candles and delicious smells, they’re weird and just give them something else.

A portable cellphone charger

Not the most romantic present on this list, but certainly the most useful and considerate. Portable phone chargers come in all shape, colors and sizes, with varying degrees of power and portability. Find an option that suits your partner the most, something more cool if they’re tech fans and more practical if they just want a portable charger that gets the job done.

A mobile photo printer

It’s pretty hard nowadays to find a place that prints good quality photos, the kind that you can frame or put up on your fridge. It’s also a pain to make the trip to your nearest FedEx whenever you want to print something. Mobile photo printers are small and perfect for printing all kinds of photographs with the right kind of glossy paper. They’re also plenty that are reasonably priced.

Something more meaningful and fitting for Valentine’s Day over the standard gift is an activity you can do together, like a cooking or painting class, maybe paintball if you want to get a little weird. These activities don’t need to be too expensive to leave an impression and allow you guys to have a good time.

A weekend getaway

Not the best activity to plan when you’re cutting it so close, since you don’t have as much time to prepare, but depending on where you live you can still come up with something fun and memorable. See if you can stay at a friend’s place or if you can book an Airbnb for a night or two.

Which Beauty Procedures Are Worth Your Money In 2020?

Looking for a cosmetic procedure to help you feel good this year? RealSelf spent a year researching which ones are worth the investment. Here are the results.

The cost of looking good and feeling better is on the rise along with a purported quality of life. As both women and men invest in anti-aging procedures that boost confidence and explore ways to eliminate the signs of aging, sites like RealSelf, Beautypedia, and TheDermReview help consumers identify products that are worth both the hype and the spend.

RealSelf’s Worth It Index recently unveiled its results of a year-long research project focused on helping customers identify which procedures and skincare investments were most recommended.

Their RealSelf Worth It Rating is a proprietary consumer satisfaction score based on reviews from consumers on RealSelf who, after undergoing a treatment, rated it as “Worth It” or “Not Worth It.” To become a 2020 Most Worth It procedure, a team of researchers looked to consumer-based reviews and ratings between January 1, 2019 and December 31, 2019 that earned a score of 90% or higher. Out of all the reviews, 15 nonsurgical and 37 surgical procedures made the list.

“Unlike other beauty awards, the RealSelf Most Worth It Ranking is based only on satisfaction scores reported by real patients,” said Tom Seery, RealSelf founder, and CEO. “Our annual list of Most Worth It procedures is a helpful guide for people who are considering whether to invest their time and money in a procedure.”

Becky Sturm, esthetician and owner of Stormsister Spatique, a skincare boutique based in St. Paul, Minn., believes the rise of investing in the face is long overdue. She explained, “Both men and women are finally starting to be proactive and take of their skin at younger and younger age.”

When asked what products her clients seemed to favor, Sturm illustrated that moisturizer outsells every other product. “Moisturizer is my number one seller because my clients are understanding that a good skincare system is a great investment to help the aging process by smoothing fine lines and elongating time before going under the knife.“

Sturm, who recommends at least four facials each year, sees the growing trends of individuals placed on feeling confident in a healthy skincare regimen, which aligns with the Worth It Rating RealSelf’s consumers gave to facials — 99%. Other ratings include:

President and co-founder of Influenster, Elizabeth Scherle recently stated to Fashionista that 93% of consumers read reviews before making a purchase, looking online to research. With skincare products growing by over 13% in 2018 alone, The NYP Group shared that natural skin-care was an explosive trend, growing twenty-three percent over the year prior (2017).

Netflix Blocks Marijuana Content Due To Government Pressure

According to Netflix, canna-centric titles will be pulled from their services in Singapore due to government restrictions.

Netflix has a vast library of content, and is home to some of the best stoner shows and movies ever made. Superbad, Dazed and Confused and Freaks and Geeks have all been included on the platform, which has produced its own original shows with a weed twist, such as Disjointed and Cooking On High.

According to a statement from Netflix, titles such as these will be pulled from their services in Singapore due to government restrictions.

Singapore submitted a request to Netflix in order to limit all content that has heavy drug use and partying. While the content will still be accessed in most markets, people who live in Singapore won’t be able to stream these programs.

Axios reports that Netflix will be publishing reports on these kinds of bans on a yearly basis, only complying with the government if they receive a written statement demanding the censorship of a title. The report explains that Netflix’s last resource is to remove the title, preferring to come up with some sort of agreement with the government in the country that’s requesting the ban.

Singapore made this request in 2019, and is currently one of the countries that has the harshest laws punishing drug use and trafficking. Possession of small amounts of substances can be punished by up to 10 years in prison or by paying a $20,000 fine. The trafficking of drugs is punishable by execution.

Netflix is one of the largest streaming services in the world, providing programming in over 190 countries. Countries that don’t have Netflix (like China, Syria, North Korea and Crimea) normally have very strict censorship laws or conflicting relationships with the U.S..

Even Stormy Daniels Is Making CBD Products

The latest celebrity to step into the CBD game is Stormy Daniels, who’s partnering with Forest Farms to make infused lube.

Stormy Daniels, who’s not only a well-known porn star, but a political figure as well, thanks to her pay-off scandal involving President Trump, is now involved with CBD. Specifically CBD lube.

The Spokesman-Review reports Daniels had been interested in getting involved with the CBD business for a while. Mike Forest, owner of cannabis company Forest Farms, reached out to her once his company finished developing a water based CBD lubricant.

The name of the product is Tempest By Stormy, which sounds like many things, none of them lubricants. The product is water based, and uses a nanotechnology that allows the fluid to be absorbed quickly through the skin, thus producing fast acting effect. According to the product’s description, the lubricant is minimally invasive, having a faint floral smell and being able to be used by all kinds of people, even those with pH imbalances.

Forest explained that normally CBD and THC need oil to have a better effect. He said it took his company years to perfect the nanotechnology that’s present in Tempest By Stormy. “We use a new technique that involves a fat-bonded, full-spectrum, nanotization process,” he told the Spokesman-Review.

For her part, Daniels said that she believed CBD was a fad until she experienced the benefits of the compound herself.

“Two summers ago, I had a serious fall while jumping my horse. I had a fractured spine and severely sprained pelvis,” she explained to the Spokesman-Review. “I was told it would be a minimum of six weeks until I could walk even using crutches. I hate pain pills, so when a friend sent me some CBD products, I thought I’d try them.”

Daniels joins many professionals in venturing into the CBD business. Although there’s plenty of competition when it comes to CBD lubricants, the fact that it’s water based gives it an edge in terms of comfort and versatility. We just have to see if the novelty of “Stormy Daniels makes CBD lubricant” will work.

Are CBD Drinks Legal

0

The FDA hasn’t granted approval to CBD products, making matters very complicated.

CBD is unique in the way that it has managed to infiltrate itself into the mainstream without having the support of the Food and Drug Administration. FDA approval is important since it ensures that the product you’re consuming is safe and keeps track of the compounds that are in it. But the FDA is a surprisingly slow moving organization, one that has to deal with a lot of politics and bureaucracy.

There are plenty of CBD drinks out there, from sodas to seltzers, most of them containing between 10 to 25 mg of the compound. They all claim to leave the drinker relaxed and refreshed, but measuring their legality is a complex issue.

RELATED: The FDA’s Stance On CBD Is Confusing Consumers

While the drinks are out there in circulation, it would be illegal for the makers to say that the product has a medicinal properties or acts as a food and dietary supplement.

According to CNET, the only CBD product for oral consumption that has obtained FDA approval is Epidiolex, a prescription drug used to treat rare forms of epilepsy. The FDA continues to say that CBD is not a valid food and drink additive because there’s not enough information out there on the compound.

Several companies have received warnings from the FDA due to their claims regarding CBD, which are not supported by studies and science. CBD companies find themselves in a tough spot; despite the fact that people are interested in consuming their products and that there’s anecdotal evidence that lends credence to these health claims, it is risky to sell them when the business stands on such shaky ground.

RELATED: The FDA’s Problem With Hemp-CBD

There’s also the fact that there are hundreds of companies that want to make easy money from CBD, and are taking advantage of people’s ignorance and the current confusion that surrounds the legality of the compound.

In short, CBD drinks are illegal, even though they’re being sold just about everywhere. Despite the FDA’s interference, consumers are invested in CBD, even if it’s long term effects remain unknown. Now, where are those studies?

How Some Consumers Avoid Paying High Taxes For Recreational Marijuana

0

Some customers would rather take their chances with shady street dealers than suffer the high taxes they’re being asked to pay at the cash register.

Now that marijuana is legal for adults 21 and over in 11 states, droves of cannabis aficionados should be pouring into those areas like wild-eyed fiends to take advantage of this newly legitimized scene. And they are, in fact, doing just that. Until, that is, they slide into a dispensary and discover that they do not have enough cash for both the cannabis products they want and the high taxes being slapped on them at the cash register.

Many cannabis customers have left their neighborhood weed stores fuming mad over this issue, vowing to return to the black market until states get their act together and lower the tax rate associated with legal weed.

Meanwhile, some crafty folks in the cannabis community have figured out a way around the tax scam, and in some cases, these people are even getting permission to move to the front of the line.

In Illinois, where marijuana was officially made legal at the beginning of the year, one of the biggest complaints coming from cannabis customers is the taxes are just too dang high. And they’re not wrong.

The Land of Lincoln has one of the steepest tax rates in the nation attached to its legal cannabis trade. Customers who step inside a dispensary have to pay 10 percent extra for flower, 20 percent for edibles and 25 percent for any product that contains more than 35 percent THC. This is, of course, before state and local taxes, which can force some customers to pay in upwards of 40 percent more than the retail price.

It’s one of those situations where some customers would rather take their chances with shady street dealers than suffer this extortion.

But others are simply playing the game by getting in on the state’s medical marijuana program. Not only does this allow them the advantage of paying a modest 1 percent tax rate on legal cannabis products, but the state of Illinois also mandates that card-holding customers get to move ahead of long lines.

No kidding, the Illinois Department of Health recently reported a 34% uptick in new medical marijuana applications. It seems that people have learned that they can evade the inflated taxes on marijuana by merely getting a doctor to sign off on their pot use. After all, all of the weed being sold in the recreational and medicinal sectors is all the same. It’s a stroke of genius, really.

Illinois’ medical marijuana program is a few years old. Sure, it started out with all sorts of restrictions, allowing only those people with a handful of severe or debilitating conditions to participate. But the program has evolved over the years. Now, pretty much anyone can apply for a medical marijuana card as long as a doctor can show it is needed for one of around 50 conditions. The most common in any medical marijuana program is chronic pain, according to reports

While some people do, in fact, suffer from pain conditions and have experienced much success from cannabis, others have found that they can use this condition as a gateway to recreational pot use since it is difficult for healthcare professionals to determine if their pain problems are real.

In Illinois, saving money on marijuana taxes is as simple as getting a physician to write a recommendation. From there, a person must pay an application fee of between $100 to $250 and they can begin shopping for marijuana on the receipt while they wait for their card to arrive in the mail.

Not every legal marijuana state has this type of grey area that allows patrons to avoid high taxes by joining the medicinal sector. But it might be an option worth exploring for some folks. In almost every state with both recreational and medicinal pot laws on the books, a lower tax rate can be had by going the medicinal route.

The Difference Between Indica And Sativa Strains

0

Throughout cannabis’s history, there have been two kinds of strains: indica and sativa. Now, experts believe these terms might be outdated.

As you begin your journey with cannabis, one of the first things you learn is that there are two kinds of strains: indica and sativa. Most people choose one and stick to it, since it’s an easy and convenient way of obtaining the results you’re looking for. But most experts believe that the differences between strains are not as marked as we’ve been lead to believe.

The effects of consuming cannabis depend on several factors that are always subject to change. These aren’t as simple as smoking a specific type of strain and getting the results you’re looking for, although the make up of the plant has some influence on your high. Your body’s make up and tolerance level, the plant’s chemical profile, how you’re ingesting it and the dosage are all important to the feeling you’ll ultimately experience.

Indica and sativa are terms that entered the conversation years ago, mostly used to refer to the different species of plants during their cultivation stage. Indica strains originate from shorter plants, with thick stems and broad, deep green leaves. They tend to flower quickly and can thrive in colder climates. On the other hand, sativas come from tall plants that flower more slowly, have light green leaves, and fare better in warmer climates.

It’s been years since cannabis plants were bred separately; nowadays we’re all consuming hybrids, even if they’re sativa or indica dominant.

When describing each strain, sellers are quick to attach labels to them, forgetting that the name mostly refers to the plant’s physical look and make up. Sativa strains are deemed cerebral and talkative, while indica is more relaxing and body focused. This categorization doesn’t account for how each person experiences cannabis. When smoking the same strain, two people might experience completely different highs, one having a laughing fit and the other experiencing serious couch lock.

RELATED: Why Sativas Are Often The Answer To Anxiety Over Indicas

While the labels indica and sativa make for great starting points for cannabis users, it’s important to get informed about other aspects of the plant. Recent research says that terpenes and cannabinoid make up are some of the most determinant aspects of a cannabis batch, being the best predictor of your high.

Still, despite all the knowledge in the world, cannabis remains a trial and error process. In order to find your dream strain, you’re going to have to smoke a few of them.

Everything You Should Know About CBD Lube

In the case of CBD, it’s important to get informed, read labels and purchase products from reputable brands.

CBD lube is a thing, and some people claim it’s amazing. Unlike THC lubricants, which reportedly get you high in a completely different way, CBD doesn’t provide any effects that are too crazy.

Some of CBD’s benefits, such as managing pain and inflammation, are reportedly very helpful for women, especially those who struggle with painful or uncomfortable sex. Like most mucous membranes, the vagina is very absorbent, acting as a sponge and taking in the benefits of the compound in a matter of minutes.

CBD can relax the muscles in the pelvic area, including the uterus, bladder, anal sphincter and pelvic floor. The compound can reportedly improve blood flow as well, facilitating orgasms and making the whole sexual encounter easier.

When it comes to men, there’s not much that the CBD lube can do other than lubricate. However, Men’s Health says that CBD lubricant can be applied to your butt and that you’d get much of the same effects as when it’s applied to the vagina, so there’s that.

5 tips for having sex while high

“We do know that CBD acts as a vasodilator, meaning it boosts circulation,” Kiana Reeves, a somatic expert, told Shape magazine. “Increasing blood flow to the genitals and erectile tissue network is the basis for arousal and heightened sensation.”

Still, like most lubricants, it’s important to be aware of what’s in them. In the case of CBD, an industry that remains unregulated, it’s even more important to get informed, read labels and purchase products from reputable brands. That way, you can avoid harmful materials like chemicals, glycerin and more.

RELATED: Does Marijuana Increase Sexual Appetite?

Before using your product, be sure to read the instructions. Some items require the lubricant to be applied a few minutes beforehand or aren’t compatible with condoms and silicone toys. Still, this all sounds pretty promising if you’re a CBD enthusiast who’s also looking for something new and sexy.

Does Pete Buttigieg Consume Weed

Pete Buttigieg made history as the first openly gay man to run for President. But does this conservative Democratic candidate smoke weed?

2020 is big year for the Democratic party. Come November, Democrats should wholly support one candidate even if there are in depth Twitter analyses explaining why each and every one of them is the worst person on Earth. Go politics.

Pete Buttigieg, aka Mayor Pete, has risen quickly in the polls despite some bad press and whatever it is that went down in Iowa. He’s made history as the first openly gay may to run for President, an amazing feat no matter which candidate you support.

Now, moving on to what really matters: Does Mayor Pete smoke weed?

RELATED: Pete Buttigieg Admits Marijuana Use, Calls For Legalization Nationwide

Nearly all Democratic candidates  (except for maybe Joe Biden) are for some sort of marijuana reform. Pete Buttigieg falls neatly into this category, having spoken several times about his stance.

While campaigning, Buttigieg has said that he supports medical marijuana since it serves a purpose for veterans suffering from PTSD. He’s also made comments on the large amounts of injustices that have been committed in the name of the “war on drugs.”

Pete Buttigieg Says Incarceration Is Not The Answer To Drug Possession

“We know that this has created all kinds of problems related to mass incarceration and that there is now a whole new generation who have experienced the incarceration of loved ones who are themselves more likely to have problems, and it shows you how the incarceration creates more harms than it was intended to solve,” Buttigieg said in a recent interview with Denver journalist Jeff Fard.

Later, in that same interview, Fard took a hit from an imaginary blunt and passed it down to Buttigieg, who looked startled and passed it down to his right, unable to take an imaginary puff. The odds of him smoking IRL weed just went down by a big chunk.

On a separate occasion, while touring a marijuana dispensary in Las Vegas, Buttigieg said that he’s smoked marijuana a handful of times, but that it was a long time ago. When offered some marijuana to go, he joked and said that he was “on the clock,” and had a long day of work ahead of him.

RELATED: Pete Buttigieg Says Incarceration Is Not The Answer To Drug Possession

Despite his support of marijuana, Buttigieg is one of the most conservative Democratic candidates running for presidency. In fact, his support of marijuana is one of his edgiest policies.

Although it’s completely understandable why Buttigieg has chosen to focus on other aspects on his resume aside from his sexuality, he still has glossed over plenty of issues that affect the LGBTQ community in favor of appearing harmless. But that’s a topic for another column.

When it comes to Buttigieg and weed, try as I might, I just can’t picture him smoking a blunt at the end of the day. Not even during a long weekend. Sorry guys, this week is a no.
